This Is Your Captain Speaking
Argentina’s first transgender pilot has debuted the new uniform designed for the female pilots of the country’s national airline.
Traniela Campolieto announced his “transition” to passengers during a flight last year, after which one person tried to get off the plane. pic.twitter.com/v1h3Iyl128
— REDUXX (@ReduxxMag) July 20, 2024
And hey, every passenger wants the pilot to be a bewigged, mentally ill fetishist who bangs on about the super-girly tightness of his uniform, and who takes endless, pouting selfies in the cockpit.
To say nothing of the heightened risk of suicidal inclinations. Ah, the thrill of modernity.
Before becoming a shimmering vision of womanliness, Mr Campolieto was a professional bodybuilder, a proverbial brick shithouse. Hence the bad wig, the transformative powers of which may have been overestimated.
Update, via the comments, where WTP adds,
From the above Publica link:
In 2020, the country’s President, Alberto Fernández, passed a decree establishing employment quotas in the public sector for individuals who identified as transgender. The decree mandates that at any given time at least one percent of all public sector workers in the national government must be transgender, as understood in the 2012 Gender Identity Law.
And so, the pilot in charge of 250 tonnes of Airbus A330, and on whom the lives of 400 or so passengers depend, is a man whose perceptions are wildly unreliable, at least regarding himself.
Previously: Banking and mental illness, together at last. Oh, and policing and mental illness. Because unstable personalities, such that a person isn’t entirely sure who or what they are on any given day, are very in right now.
Consider this an open thread. Share ye links and bicker.
If you’re a woman and you’re not entirely thrilled by the demographic transformation of London, and the subsequent sense of alienation and danger – say, after being mugged and repeatedly groped – then this must be because you’ve got “a bloody stupid, reductive, small-minded and inward-looking view of society and how it works.”
One more time.
And as Rafi said, following this, “You’re not meant to notice the downgrade.”
By the way, if you poke through Charlotte Gill’s feed, you’ll find several enthusiasts of “diversity,” mostly men, telling a woman, a victim of mugging and sexual assault, to shut up and bugger off. All while merrily implying racial bigotry on the part of the victim.
Because, again, you’re not meant to notice the downgrade.

I was surprised to learn how many compulsive bodybuilders had a history of childhood sexual abuse. I suppose it’s just another form of body dysmorphia.
Chappie’s history of bodybuilding struck me as possibly relevant.
“I’m not big enough.”
“But you’re already the size of a cow.”
Meanwhile, in the totally representative world of the BBC:
Just start dosing pilots with acid.
I had no idea. Got any links immediately to hand?
Bodybuilder champions have always struck me as not so much impressive as grotesque and thus puzzling from a psychological perspective.
In the past, so many airline pilots were former military and brought with them the stability and discipline of their training. Alas, even that today is no guarantee.
I have a 15-Hour Rule: if I can get from Point A to Point B within 15 hours of driving, I eschew flying. Yes, it takes longer but I make it a pleasant road trip, setting aside time, even, to stop and smell the roses (and visit roadside attractions). As a photographer, it is much easier traveling with gear.
I was a bit surprised that the BBC had the best coverage of the assassination attempt recently. Both because of their on-the-scene blind reporter doing the first interview with people who saw the shooter long before he started shooting, and their series of stories on their web page about it was timely and well organized.
There is that one element in the weight room that has always creeped me out. The ones who spend considerable time looking at themselves in the mirrors. That and the bloody mirrors. Another reason I avoided free weights.
My sister-in-law’s husband was traveling from north Atlanta to central Florida yesterday via air and got caught up in the Crowdstrike thing. Even with the mess that driving through south Atlanta often is he still could have driven in less time. He flew mostly because he had so many frequent flyer perks and discounts to use up. Between time to the airport, traffic getting there, having to arrive so early, the hassle of getting your bags and a car at the other end, etc. ever since 9/11 that has seemed like a very iffy gamble to me. Then throw the increasingly crazy passengers and now crazy crew members into the mix and the stress is worse than the moderate stress of driving.
WTP you forgot the crocs!!!
Cressida didn’t think the law should apply to her.
Note, too, the mother’s attempt to elicit sympathy: “She will not be present at her brother’s wedding.” So, thwarting other people’s plans is fine, heroic even, but apparently the favour must never be repaid. To say nothing of the emergency vehicles that were repeatedly immobilised by dear sweet Cressida and her comrades.
Theirs, it seems, is a conveniently non-reciprocal piety.
🤣
It always has been.
But consider the mindset. To use that line while clearly not expecting the obvious rebuttal. As if it had never crossed her mind.
The assumed impunity, the imperviousness to consequences, calls to mind medieval royalty and modern-day sociopaths. I wonder which group she identifies with.
A fox hunt: “The unspeakable in full pursuit of the uneatable”
Woke left: “The unspeakable in full pursuit of the unachievable”
Science marches on.
The latter. Medieval royalty had obligations to their subjects, the failure to honour leading to rebellion and other ructions. Sociopaths don’t see themselves as obligated to anyone for anything.
So in the category or men/women observations…wife had jury duty this morning. She’s already home as they, as usual, drew more people than they needed. She comes home to tell me that when she went to the courthouse and passed through the metal detector, it went off. The officer said not to worry about it and waved her right on through. Took me a few minutes to stop laughing.
Progressivism makes everything useless so as to salve the inflamed egos of ambitious mediocrities.
Is she bionic?
[ Does bionic noise. ]
Another kink in airline Captains is found.
I’m now picturing Mrs WTP running in slow-motion with flawless hair, leaping over high fences, again with flawless hair, and flinging scatter cushions at bone-crushing velocities.
That poster, in one form or another, dates back at least to the mid sixties. I remember seeing it in “underground” comic shops and even Pier One Imports.
Oh, yes. I don’t think they had the cockpit crew in mind when making it though.
Agreed. On the other hand, the poster for the roughly contemporary (soft core porn?) movie Candy featured an obviously naked empty-eyed blonde in an airline cockpit. I never saw it, so I don’t know anything more than that.
[ Does bionic noise. ]
Note, too, the mother’s attempt to elicit sympathy:
The mother is ultimately to blame for calling her child Cressida. The girl was doomed from the start.
O Cressid! O false Cressid! False, false, false!
Let all untruths stand by thy stainèd name,
And they’ll seem glorious.
The social class aspect is rather hard to miss:
Links aplenty in the original.
lol!
Solid ‘Nope’ on this one.
I’m not sure what this guy’s angle is (job security??). I remember seeing a story about him years ago. It looks like he’s still in the same place transition-wise. It really doesn’t work that way –Nope Nope Nope noooo. I was initially sympathetic when I first saw the story, but it’s really obvious at this point there has been zero effort on his part to actually transition beyond wearing female clothing and a wig. This is clearly someone who discovered a loophole and exploited it. Not Trans. Not a woman. Just some creepy dude seeing how far he can push. He’s the modern version of the trench coat flasher . . . now with government sponsorship!
Jane –Get me off this crazy thing!
And therein lies the problem. How does one differentiate, whether personally, or in a practical, policy way? Even to suggest that one might attempt to differentiate is to risk being called names.
How does one differentiate, whether personally, or in a practical, policy way?
Isn’t the underlying psychosis still the same? It seems to me the only difference is the size of the stage on which one chooses to emote one’s narcissism.
Virtue signaling: among my friends there is rarely a “virtue statement”. People get credit for what they do, not what they say. The group is very generous and looks after each other. No elbowing to the top of the heap with insane virtue statements. I feel fortunate. Someone documented that the more virtue statements and claims someone makes the less actual charity (giving time or money to church or charity) they do. Much less.
As noted here, I’ve seen countless men dressed as, or identifying as, women, where it’s not been at all clear how sincere, as it were, the men in question might be. Is he dysmorphic, or an autogynephile, or a drag queen, or some combination of the above, or something else, possibly something to be really worried about?
Will the latest chap with the ill-fitting wig be asking schoolgirls about their panties, as seen here? Or will the guy with smeared lippy be conscripting middle-school children into his pornographic psychodrama, as seen here?
Meanwhile, the gates of mandatory indulgence, of compelled affirmation, are being flung open.
And in real life, one doesn’t often have the time to mentally parse such distinctions, to fathom the most likely one, and to then respond accordingly, while hoping for the best. And while trying to avoid causing undue embarrassment, or being summoned to the human resources office.
Note, too, the mother’s attempt to elicit sympathy
What does the father have to say?
Okay, okay, trick question.
We badly need to bring back the shaming of parents, especially single mothers. When they pull this stunt, they need to be greeted with shouts of “your child is a shit person because you are a shit parent, now sit down and shut up.”
[ Slides browning, squidgy, partly peeled banana to Daniel. ]
Best not to turn it over.
Our host DEFINES generosity.
Had a party yesterday. Someone opined that the Trump shooting was staged. Bunch of engineers in the room so they pointed out a) the odds of shooting someone in the ear and b) the consequences for failure (ie a dead Trump). I pointed out that for being staged, the body count was rather high.
FFS people, think about it.
They feel, not think. Less effort, more social cred.
The majority of people, the majority of highly educated, intelligent (so-called) people are f******g stupid. Including engineers. And doctors. And especially educators. And really especially lawyers. (Added:) And especially Republicans and “conservatives”. Think about it. How else do you explain the ridiculous lies upon ridiculous lies being piled up even now in the wake of all that has finally been publicly revealed and acknowledged since June 27? It’s been almost a month and we continue to be fed excuses and ridiculous, even totally made up BS. For the most part, people accept it. Just like they accept that no one really knows what a woman is. Because we don’t want to upset our fwiends and neighbors and loved ones. So now the most powerful nation on earth, the most powerful that has ever been, is being run by Godonlyknows. The second in command, constitutionally anyway, is herself a drunken whore. This is clearly true but let’s all continue to pretend otherwise because it might upset our fwiends and neighbors and loved ones to point out that she’s a drunken whore, just like it upsets those people to say that George Floyd died because of the drugs and covid and whatever and not anything any cops did. Or any other dumb, stupid story the media feeds the dumb stupid b@stards whom we say we think are decent people. Like fiery but peaceful protests. And we will continue to accept this idiocy. Because to do otherwise would be inappropriate. It’s not who we are. Wouldn’t be prudent at this juncture.
/rant. Maybe
You really think he’s offering us those pickled eggs out of generosity??
To my rant, the (many would say) smartest technology guy on the planet fails to understand the limits of science nor the evils of doctors and lawyers:
Smart people. Smaaaaart.
Well, of course.
That and pesky statutes about hazardous waste.
Aelfheld, this morning NPR had a long segment about biden/harris. During the two minute intro, the word “feelings” or variants were used six times.
I almost wrecked my car.
Another reason not to listen to NPR.
The monument’s imagery portrays Western influence as a civilising force […]
Well, it was.

Besides, in between the exploding blood pressure and red curtains of blood, it’s often funny. Not intentionally, for the most part, but one must find entertainment where it grows.
