A Brief Sense Of Proportion

Got something in my eye. 🙂
By the same, and related.

Thank you, David. This was an utterly charming way to start my morning.
It does make a change from the usual artless art and the endless blue-haired bedlamites.
Guy talking on phone: “I’m looking at the Moon, hold on, okay?”

“Oh my God.”
Almost sounds like a prayer.
That is quite beautiful. Not sure what to bicker about.
Note to self: DON’T PUT THE PUNTERS IN A GOOD MOOD.
Hey David: Aluminum.
By the way, has anybody told Eddie Izzard that he makes a particularly ugly fake woman?
New flip phone lock screen of note.
Re: the previous post: even before the current wokeness and interwebs, journalists/novelists were in the top tier for dysfunction. Highest alcoholism, divorce, depression of professionals. Engineers the lowest. Why so high? No firm way to prove you have done a good job. Add in wokeness and it is a clown show.

…and from all the BS in Real Life(TM) too. Thanks, David. I needed that.
My inner geek wants a telescope now.
[idly searches Amazon for affordable options]
There are actually some very affordable telescopes that claim to provide high quality/resolution images. [Bookmarks].
I hear the really expensive ones are generally the best.
What?

I strongly recommend that you seek out some experienced astronomy hobbiests to advise you: Much of what you will find on Amazon will be from Chinese companies making third-rate equipment for naive buyers.
I hear the really expensive ones are generally the best.
Undoubtedly. You get what you pay for, etc. However, my bank account won’t let me get the telescope I really want, what with the cost of necessities going sky high. But there may be a middle ground one I can save up for.

I know nobody in the hobby, being somewhat of a misanthropic hermit, but there’s gotta be someone on YouTube (hopefully not plugging cheap Chinese crap) that knows what they are talking about and that I can get some advice that way (unless one of y’all knows someone). Because I’ve wanted a telescope since I was a kid looking through the Sears and Roebuck Christmas catalogue they sent out every year.
The choice of music was predictable but nevertheless apt.
Royal Kardashians: His mother brought attention to those maimed by land mines and did other noble things. His grandmother helped the war effort as a mechanic in WWII and then ruled as queen for 70 yrs nobly and honorably. Even his father, though misguided, tried to make the world better with his environmental work. It is grossly unseemly to sink into grifting using self-pity as the vehicle. And I say this as an American.

Table 1 shows the ways we can cook the data in an individual randomised controlled trial; Table 2 displays an array of aftercare services for keeping the truth from interfering with sales and implementation; and Table 3 lists the services that we offer to our non-elite (that is, shallow pockets) customers.
Somehow got this one in the bag a day earlier than usual. A first.

I’m ignoring these people, like most celebrity BS. I admire the Queen as much as a royalty disdainful American can. Recent appreciation mostly due to a 90+ yo Yorkshire friend, yet now American, admires the GB/UK royals. I never cared for Chuckie and was quite sure his 38(?) yo ass marriage to a 19(?) yo young woman was a recipe for disaster…in spite of all that…it irritates the piss out of me that these people are constantly in my face recently, and droning on and on about their disdain for the people who gave them every…damn…thing…that…they…have. Chuckie may have issues but regardless of the shit you were born into, he’s you bloody father and had to deal with his own shit…Meanwhile I frequently thank the Lord Above that I was not born into such shit.
Sorry if any of that sounds disjointed but wife and I just put up the Christmas tree, after indulging in George Washington recipe eggnog and a round or two of Jack Daniels, and she’s droning on about the sandals that just arrived from Amazon and…ummm..something…
A different sort of Moon video: Operation Hard Rock from The Moon is a Harsh Mistress.
So in the context of the Jack Daniels and stuff, watching that, and having worked in the space program for a few years I am quite confident that the moon landings in 1969, etc. were NOT faked…given the minimal ROI and the probability that no one truly cares enough to verify and that we live in a Fake News age, would it really matter if future moon “landings” were faked? Much, much easier to fake such things today? Who would know and why would anyone care?
…
Also, why can I not copy text from this blog when viewed on Chrome but nolo problemo doing so on Brave…or whatever? Whatever…

Oh no, I fully intend to watch Netflix’s documentary because I think it will rival “The Tiger King” for pure “slow down and gawk at the car accident” entertainment. Do you really think Netflix plans to score viewers with a heroic love story? I bet they know the Harkles are a dumpster fire of a couple and count on that to get people to tune in. Hell, I can already see Season Two – “Harry and Meghan: the Aftermath” after Dad strips them of their titles and their status wanes. But never gone because like the Kardashians, Netflix knows they’re the type people love to hate.
Season Three will be the divorce. And Meg coming out as bisexual. Actually, I am surprised she hasn’t already because aren’t LGBTQ+ creds important?
I didn’t realize until just now that while I was quite aware of the place and many of the happenings there, I had no idea exactly where Ottawa is. Or was. However you say it. I found it.
“If it works in Bangladesh, should be no problem here.”
“If it works in Bangladesh, should be no problem here.”
You would think that it would already be widely used mode here if it really had such advantages. That’s why the green left intends to make it mandatory, one way or another.
Plenty of time to write a 28 page brochure with pictures and stuff. An effort to actually try to implement the plan on a small scale, to actually do something, not so much. Odd that.
WTP: you should know by now that the business of the left is not….well, business…it is running other people’s lives. This bike is aimed at the glorious future when towns are divided into climate change sectors…for your own good.
So the e-cargo bike makes 5 deliveries and then has to go back to the warehouse. How many trips to deliver an Amazon truck worth of packages? And how much time?
As a wag pointed out, if the 70cents claim of the feminists was true, one could get rich hiring only women, but attempts by feminists to start all female businesses (such as lesbian bookshops and cafes) did not go so well.
You would think that it would already be widely used mode here if it really had such advantages.
Always a naysayer in the crowd, if you read the report, you would have noticed that already in the UK a full 0.67% of all vans have switched to sparky vans. It will be piss easy to switch the rest to sparky bikes.
…to actually do something, not so much.
TBF, actually getting enough people to ride the things is going to be high adventure, I am not exactly seeing that the current crop of youths of any gender will be lining up, and from the reports all the “economic migrants” in the UK don’t appear to be enthused about work either. Of course if they tried this on this side of the pond, they might make it a full city block without being pilfered, but getting it down Sasquatch County Road 1 might be entertaining.
However, with Full Luxury Communism™ I am sure it will all be sorted by AI and drones as we all sit around writing slam poetry and such.
Diversity and inclusion is the strength of the assigned female at birth of the DC Press Corpse.
Actually, I am surprised she hasn’t already because aren’t LGBTQ+ creds important?
Not as important, yet, as black with a capital b cred. My farmer’s tan gets darker than Murkle ever was, yet she has that poor black mother to parade around as proof of her race cred. The Ts have streamrolled the LBGs so gay cred wouldn’t give her many extra points, and I don’t see that narcissistic twat rolling over for some white guy in a dress. The crash at the intersection of Meg and It’s MA’AM would be interesting, though. If she does come out as bi for extra cred it will only be if Harry leaves her. It’s not in her interest right now to add another intersection to the oppressed black woman grift she’s got going. And she’s still milking the prince and princess love story thing, so she needs to stay straight for the time being.
Jennifer Lawrence confirms bint status.
That’s for sure. From the article:
Apparently, hugely popular films of the last fifty years aren’t her area of expertise. Still, there’s something almost charming about an attempt to self-inflate having such a different effect.
Davis did not attempt to correct Lawrence’s incorrect statements.
This is a huge part of the problem.
Apparently, hugely popular films of the last fifty years aren’t her area of expertise.
Not just 50 years worth of films but even further back in tv as well. Sad she doesn’t know of “Emma Peel” or “Honey West”.
I pass no judgement about her acting in the Hunger Games as I never had any desire to watch it/them but beforehand, in Winters Bone, she was remarkably good.
In that film she played a courageous determined and self-sufficient young woman – a terrific role model. So different to the posturing shell she has now become.
Quite. I think we’ll give that one a quick post of its own.
Comments that-a-way.
With regular people as well. Exceptional deference to politeness is no virtue.
@computerlabrat –
Telescope recommendations – I would suggest buying from either Meade or Celestron as these are big brands producing high end / advanced scopes alongside their beginner devices.
Unless you are spending big bucks (in the 000’s) I would avoid refractor telescopes. The optics on the cheap devices are pants and will have terrible aberration and other lens based issues. Shops will try to sell you stuff based on magnification – this is the worst thing to buy on. Magnification is scope focal divided by eyepiece focal length – bigger magnification does not mean better images.
Reflectors are the way to go. The scope in the video appears to be a dobsonian – great scopes but not ideal to cut your teeth as they tend to be larger than the schmidt-cassegrain or maksutov-cassegain types and a certain level of expertise is expected to use them effecively.
Getting started, you’ll be best served by a long-ish focal length – which gives higher magnification, but a narrow field of view which I think is best for planets & moon.
If you are a beginner, (and not knowing how much you are wiling to spend) I’d suggest something like the Celestron Nexstar 4SE – a maksutov cassegrain with a well regarded Go-To computerised mount. These are on Amazon UK for about £500.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Celestron-11049-NexStar-Computerised-Telescope/dp/B000GUFOBO/ref=sr_1_1?crid=ZSFJ52Y8GA3P&keywords=celestron+4se&qid=1670667647&s=instant-video&sprefix=celestron+4se%2Cinstant-video%2C85&sr=1-1
Since the amount of light collected is everything – there are matching 6SE and 8SE models which have 6″ and 8″ mirrors instead of the 4″ of the 4SE. Buy the biggest mirror you can afford.
Having the Go-To system will save you having to deal with manual alignment and means that you can actually look at stuff pretty quickly rather than spending hours aligning and pointing.
Meade ETX series offers similar features – but these will be 2nd hand as they are no longer in production.
Hope this helps…..
In my previous comment, I stated that my NWO would be established after the current era drew to a close. What I mean by “current era” is the the rising global-medical-surveillance fascism, concurrent to the rise of neo-fascism and a kind of neo-feudalism led by the current oligarchy.
This era will last several decades, and is concurrent to massive ecological decay. My NWO will only be possible to establish in perhaps fifty years or so, long after I perish. This era would be the final stage in human history, after which we will join the 99% of species which have already gone extinct.
Sad she doesn’t know of “Emma Peel” or “Honey West”.
I’d completely forgotten about “Honey West”, perhaps because I was very young. One more thing to take a new look at.
Hope this helps…..
@Chris It does – thank you very much! Bookmarking, and saving up! I’m in the US so the exchange rate is not in my favor, but that is definitely something worth putting money towards. Basically getting something quality to be enjoyed for years, vs wasting $100 on cheap crap I will get no use or enjoyment out of. Thank you again!
