Prudence suggests that one should avoid certain neighborhoods and people.
When I retired from university teaching a few years back, this kind of lie was so commonplace, it barely registered anymore. “I couldn’t turn in the paper, because I had to rush home to be at my dying Granny’s bedside!” No, you didn’t; you were at the sorority formal; there are pictures of you there all over social media. I’ve said many times that if Generation Selfie aren’t actual, diagnosable sociopaths, they’re functionally indistinguishable from same. They’ll lie to you on spec, for any reason or no reason, just to see what they can get away with. And if they get caught lying, they just shrug it off. It’s creepy, it’s weird, and when the majority of kids start doing it, it’s damn frightening.
I don’t recall Jussie Smollett being meaningfully held to account for his tissue of lies so this little POS will surely graduate as if nothing happened.

Re: conspirazoids, I still occasionally check out Black social media – it’s cheaper than dropping acid, and doesn’t show up on urine tests. My favorite semi-recent one was the assertion that ghetto bangers should stop wearing their pants so low as to show off both butt cheeks, as this is a relic of slavery — apparently the slaveholders used to rape their male slaves to “break” them, then force them to wear their pants like this out in the fields while picking cotton to show they’ve been “broken.”
I am in no way kidding about any of that. And while I don’t know for sure, I certainly wouldn’t bet *against* the idea that this curious notion originated in academia, as the lurid fantasy of someone with “PhD” after his name, making upwards of $100K a year at taxpayer expense.

Worst seat I have ever seen in a modern stadium. They then blamed this on a book that the article pulled its information from. A book that was not referenced until about 3 or 4 weeks later in the “corrections” section. See, they needed to reference a book because they were too lazy to send anyone out to THE PHYSICALLY CLOSEST SPRING TRAINING BASEBALL STADIUM TO THEIR OFFICES…like 20 minutes down the road. On Disney property. On another occasion, the ombudsman pretended to be unfamiliar that the phrase “War is peace” is used in Orwell’s 1984 yet they used it in a headline reporting on a GW Bush, seeming to quote him (Bush: War Means Peace…or some such) speech in which that phrase was not literally used. It was like Orwell on top of Orwell. And this was about 15 years ago now. So like I said, kid was simply using what he learned in J-school.
