Tidings
A fox’s first snow, photographed by Tak:
As is the custom here, posting will be intermittent over the holidays and readers are advised to follow me on X / Twitter, or subscribe to the blog feed at the very bottom of the page, either of which will alert you to anything new as and when it materialises.
Thanks for another 1.5 million or so visits this year and thousands of comments, many of which prompted discussions that are much more interesting than the actual posts. Which is pretty much the idea.
And particular thanks to all those who’ve made PayPal, Ko-Fi, or SubscribeStar donations to keep this rickety barge above water. It’s much appreciated. Should you be gripped by an urge to express encouragement via currency, feel free to use the buttons in the sidebar, top right, or above the comments following this post. Just think of my little face lighting up.
Curious newcomers and those with nothing better to do are welcome to rummage through the reheated series in search of entertainment. You may, and probably will, find things you’d missed. And this, needless to say, is an open thread. Share ye links and bicker.
To you and yours, a very good one.
“and now this”
I do wonder – which is it: are we in a time of rampant self stupidity, or has social disease, er, media simply exposed said stupidity?
Hmm.
Well, off to Buc-ees for … stuff.
Too many elites: it is true. In some african countries the only thing many of the college educated are capable of doing is going into government. They do not have an engineering or business degree, which their country very much needs to make things work. Same with many elites in US. Indeed is destabilizing.
AA: It is straight up racism. The excuse is that white racism causes blacks to fail, in spite of cities run by black democrat mayors with black teachers etc etc. What it really reflects if the leftist true belief that blacks simply can’t hack it and must, forever, be given a special advantage.
To you and yours, a very good one.
Thank you and likewise, David. I’ve been a bit quieter on here this year, for various reasons, but a very merry Christmas to you, The Other Half™, and all my fellow patrons of this rickety barge.
This is from Gaad Saad’s The Parasitic Mind:
[ Slurps coffee, pokes nose in comments. ]
Morning, all. Merry Christmas.
Iguanas and Christmas: Even if you put a Santa hat on the lizard, it still looks like it would rather say “Bah, humbug” rather than “Ho ho ho”.
Morning everyone, and Merry Christmas. Now, where did I leave that bottle of Laphroaig?
[ Must divert attention from unusually clean and shiny bar fixtures. ]
The street decorations are particularly nice this Christmas, aren’t they?
This can, in part, explain the increasingly deranged theories and policies advanced by the left:
The partisans of radical feminism, built on the twin delusions of Marxism and the Blank Slate, become ever more angry as science undermines their theories and experience discredits their policies.
Leftists and even liberals become ever more desperate and vicious as sixty years of policies fail to eliminate poverty and crime and racial achievement differences.
Likewise “enlightened” theories of criminal rehabilitation.
Likewise immigration policies based on the delusion that all cultures are equal and compatible.
And so on.
Attended the candle light Christmas Eve service last night at the church I grew up in. There were maybe a few dozen people there. On my FB memories, a friend had filmed the candle light part of the service from seven years ago. There were so many people there that she filmed it from up in the balcony. I remember that service as I was impressed that the church was nearly full. I wonder if the rainbows and the anti-racism classes they were offering on the screens last night had anything to do with it. There was also a reference in the sermon to ask us to feel being in the present, letting go of the burdens of the past, enabling us to move forward into the future. It sounded somewhat familiar. Couldn’t quite put my finger on where I had heard such phrasing recently.
Merry Christmas (8 am here) one and all!
Merry Christmas.
Luke 2:14
Ezekiel 23:20
The reason for the season, I believe.
[ Raises eyebrow in puzzlement. ]
Ezekiel 25:17, The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides
By the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men
Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will
Shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness…
That Ezekiel verse about donkeys and horses did not seem very Christmas-y, unless you’re thinking of a Cardi B sort of Christmas. 🙁
[ Returns, heavily gorged, from festive excursion, unpacks. ]
It’s nice to visit friends and family, but it’s nicer to come home.
To collapse on the sofa?
One wonders how many unplanned births there will be around 25 September.
Does that comment relate to something posted here?
…unless you’re thinking of a Cardi B sort of Christmas.
Good point, that sort of thing is usually found in the Book of Episiotomy, don’t recall chapter and verse.
Happy Boxing Day, y’all
(if that’s an OK turn of phrase)
*rolls back over on couch*
Have you ordered your “dismantling white supremacy” kale?
I chuckled and I’m not sorry.
Thank God we live in a society where this never happens…
Christmas retail shopping experience.
Unless and until they are treated as the looters they are, this will continue.
A non-holiday-specific meme:
I liked what Chicago mayor Richard J. Daley said in 1968 about to treat looters and arsonists.
When the looting starts, the shooting starts. — Walter E. Headley
.
…
But some of the memes I see are too dark and twisted even for here.
Christmas retail shopping experience.
The safety vest was a nice touch though.
I noticed that as well. It really sells the establishment approval. At some point it they will make the argument that technically it’s no longer really looting.
It’s “undocumented logistics”.
In six hours twenty minutes, this should materialise.
It’s a little chunkier than in previous years. Sip, don’t gulp.
“Sip, don’t gulp”
Ah. Chunky beef stew then…
We’re not supposed to binge-drink from the archives? Now he tells us.
But Alexander Pope might disagree:
Behold the strangely discomfiting chicken.
Methodia Rascal is not amused.
Dismantling white supremacy: if you count east asians as white, the only functional societies in the world, the only prosperous ones, are white. Blacks in those white supremist societies are much better off than anywhere in Africa.
Although I do hear, now and then, that parts of Africa are steadily improving.
