The Very Best Of Hands
Are you Canadian and feeling unwell? Fear not, I bring thrilling news. From Canada’s Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons:
Apparently, it’s a “cultural shift which is necessary for the profession.” Because, we’re told, all medical workers – yes, all of them, across the entire country – “participate daily in the perpetuation of structural violence upon those most marginalised amongst us, particularly those who are racialised, and live at the intersections of marginalisation.”
How this “violence,” this all-pervasive downtroddenness, is perpetuated by the receptionist at the local medical centre is, alas, not explained. No examples are offered. Indeed, evidence and logical argument are entirely absent. Given the sweeping nature of the demands, the absence of any kind of realistic and meaningful argument, with actual points of fact that one might address, is a tad curious.
Instead, we get a list of seemingly arbitrary words, among which, “colonisation, slavery, and white supremacy.” Oh, and “settler colonialism, heteropatriarchy, capitalism, ableism, classism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia…” Needless to say, the list is quite extensive, though not particularly illuminating. Less an explanation as an incantation. Magical words. With which to conjure contrived, pretentious guilt. A kind of modish neuroticism.
We are, however, told that the priorities of physicians, nurses, and medical administrators should be less about “professionalised knowledge,” those drug dosages and such, and more about “lenses of social justice.” These allegedly corrective lenses will “allow physicians to more effectively engage in… social change.” Suitably re-educated, their mentalities rewired, medical workers will have “bidirectional relationships with… the land.”
Which is obviously what you want when that itchy rash won’t go away.
At which point, it’s perhaps worth noting that the Royal College oversees Canada’s medical school education programmes. The institution is tasked with “setting national standards for medical education.”
So, nothing to worry about, then.
Update, via the comments:
Regarding this,
Svh adds,
Well, “anti-racism,” for instance, seems to consist largely of peddling black racial narcissism and anti-white sentiment, along with policies that actually sabotage the life-chances of minority students. Say, by actively championing a failure to learn rudimentary spelling and grammar:
So much for “critical thinking.”
And so, students who leave university saddled with debt and a worthless Angry Studies pseudo-qualification, and who subsequently repel employers with their chippy attitude, inept spelling, and grammatical incompetence, will presumably rationalise any rejection, any hardship, as proof of the evils of “whiteness” and the “racist society” that their lecturers banged on about. Because the more obvious explanation – that they were dupes, taken for a ride by race-hustling parasites – would be much too bruising to their egos.
In light of which, any value seems overwhelmingly negative. Except, of course, for the race-grifting mediocrities who get paid to propagate such things.
The contradictions of “equity” and competence have been noted here before, at some length, with striking illustrations. And while proponents of “equity” are often oddly reluctant to define this rather loaded term, it seems to mean something like equality of outcome regardless of inputs. And as values go, that isn’t entirely endearing. Or a basis for a civilisation.

Just what I, a Canadian, needed to read two and a half hours before I go in for a gastro-intestinal procedure.
I’ve talked with my MDs and clinicians about this stuff, and most of them are of the opinion that the idiots writing these tracts “have too much time on their hands“.
While they’re generally dismissed as being moron, the problem is that once this nonsense gets into a system, it starts to grow, like gangrene.
This sort of thing continues to build until it starts affecting the people who’ve been ignoring it, as with the anti-oil protesters blocking streets and making people’s life miserable, and it usually results in an over-reaction in the next election.
All part of the service. Hope all goes well.

As another example, grade inflation is so bad that something like 70% of grades given out in the Ivies are A. In other words, they just hand out diplomas if you pay them. No consequences….until major corporations started saying they no longer require a college degree to hire. Until companies that hire have to give remedial writing classes.
AI will be cheaper, more reliable, and won’t insist on bizarre, ever-changing, pronouns.

It might short circuit once in a while and present us with a whole raft of new ones. The number of genders seems infinite, we need pronouns to match.
Rules against plagiarism and cheating are racist now.
The implication that students with sufficiently brown skin should be allowed to cheat in class, and to cheat in exams, and generally misbehave, has cropped up before, more than once.
Again, I’m not seeing how such unilateral indulgences will foster the kinds of behaviour and self-discipline, the kinds of attitude, that are more likely to result in long-term success and personal satisfaction. But apparently, all that matters is short-term appearance, achieved via short-cuts and overt racial favouritism.
Those indulged will be given the badges and medals, but not the skills, or the character, with which one generally earns them. Such is “equity.”

Onwards!
It has become clear to me that the mad leftists who take over these institutions are perfectly happy to control them, but they’re also perfectly happy to destroy them. Bernie Sanders and his co-religionists were offended at all the choices on the grocery store shelves. The people who took over Bud Lite are the same, and Disney, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons. Either way, they win.
Well, insofar as they have leverage and are able to waste other people’s time and resources, their influence does seem to be entirely negative, if not farcical.

Because even light must be “decolonised.”
At least a dozen years ago at a post-work happy hour I was engaged in a discussion along these lines though a bit more STEM oriented. I forget the deeper context but I do recall that at some point I was prompted to say what seemed rather obvious, in context, that education was actually making people stupider. I was met by blank stares and blinking eyes. Like no one wanted to even think such a thing.
Wait until they try to re-wire electrician training along similar lines. Sparks will fly.

That was terrifying.
Professions where you only see the failures in weeks, months, years are also a problem. That far into the future and it can be impossible to determine what went wrong. Then it’s shruggie time. “¯\_(ツ)_/¯”
Hard times make strong men. Strong men make good times. Good times make weak men. Guess where we are. Wealth and comfort have made people so foolish that they don’t see any cause and effect. Everyone wants a prize just for showing up. The belief in black (moreso than in hispanic) communities seems to be that whites just get cushy jobs without being able to do the work or even doing the work. Yes, of course there are a few such jobs but not 95% of jobs. But now even young white people don’t think it is “fair” they have to work. FFS

I have known leftists who were offended and/or stressed out by the numerous choices on grocery store shelves.
Other leftists are offended by the “wrong people” enjoying prosperity the “wrong way”: They are offended by the very existence of forms of recreation that they see as “lower class” and want to re-engineer the economy and regulatory system to eradicate them. See, for example, RV’s and snowmobiles. Privately owned planes are okay, but only in the hands of the well educated wealthy elite. They even see working class food preferences (fast food, lots of meat, etc) as immoral and in need of abolition. And God Help You if you enjoy Olive Garden restaurants.
And God Help You if you enjoy Olive Garden restaurants.
What’s wrong with…er…problematic about Olive Garden? Evil carbs? Americanized Italians? Large portions? (Has no one heard of to go containers?)
Proles. Enjoying themselves. Come the revolution there’ll be none of that.
Oppressed if they get Western medical treatment, oppressed if they don’t get it. In among the Irish immigration bureaucracy’s list of reasons for a fraudulent asylum seeker being “non-returnable” – (1) bring a serious disease with you, (2) tell a complicated enough story to delay the investigation, (3) start medical treatment in the host country, and (4) once you’ve started it would be unimaginable(*) to deport you. Ireland gets an unproductive, perhaps even contagious, resident forever. Numbers? Demographics? Second-order effects? Incentives to game the system? Yeah sure maybe, but the real danger is if immigration issues were “exploited by less acceptable elements”.
(*) Another reason for a fraudulent asylum seeker being “non-returnable” – “where the country of origin simply refused to accept their return” – simply refused, eh? Imagine that. Are we even allowed to think through the possibilities of that?
Come the revolution? The revolution is here. Behold the artsy-fartsy Merry Christmas from the United States of Bananas.
So I have a suggestion: Why don’t we initiate a teacher exchange program with France where we swap their educators desperately trying to inform pupils about Renaissance art, and they get our Rainbow trouted paedophile child sex groomers?
Beleaguered French intellectuals gain safe haven in Britain, not for the first time, and British perverts get to do important missionary work in the third world. And hopefully a few “disappear” along the way.
Everyone wins!

Speaking of which, James wanted to go to music school, James had no musical training, but “oodles” of enthusiasm, lacking experience his audition would likely be messed up as a football bat. James was not admitted because he was black.
You see hwitenes and meritocracy dominate the admissions processes of music schools according to the authoresses of Disrupting Racism in Music Education: Conceptualizing Admissions Processes Through the State and the War Machine.
No seriously, that is the title, do read through it, it is a veritable salamagundi of buzz words that comes down to “let more POCs in regardless of ability”.

Whitney Mayo. C’mon this has got to be satire.
I’m surprised her co-author isn’t Ashley Whitegirl.
Whitney Mayo.
At least she isn’t from the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople, regardless, admire the “Editorial Board” for the “journal” – Ecojustice music education…Foucaultian genealogy…Indigenous research methodologies.
There seems to be a bit of a lack of actual music education, but OK, I guess.
The “journal” is part of the Mayday Group – I guess that is a little more subtle for the rubes than Venceremos Brigade Group.
A very ‘kids in do-you-want-some Candyland’ vibe.
Fits this administration to a ‘T’.
Highly ranked contender for oxymoron of the year.
All part of the Marxist/Maoist playbook. Produce stupid, unstable, paranoid morons. Turn said morons on all social structures and let them wreak havoc. When havoc allows Marxists to seize power, morons are either enslaved (sent to work the mines or fields) or shot.

“…Mexico is but a short flight away!”
Seriously. I’ve just been informed that the earliest I can get a CT scan for random catastrophic sinus bleeds is May-June.
some Canadians would rather die than deal with our crappy health care system
Many, arguably most, Canadians would rather die in our health care system than admit its failure. Socialized medicine is both a matter of national identity and the third rail of Canadian politics; so much as hinting at any kind fo privatization is a death knell for any politician’s career, and the program expands futher every election cycle. The current ruling junta has just announced dental care will now be covered.
I’m not exaggerating when I say Canada is over as a country. There’s no coming back from this.
