The Very Best Of Hands
Are you Canadian and feeling unwell? Fear not, I bring thrilling news. From Canada’s Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons:
Apparently, it’s a “cultural shift which is necessary for the profession.” Because, we’re told, all medical workers – yes, all of them, across the entire country – “participate daily in the perpetuation of structural violence upon those most marginalised amongst us, particularly those who are racialised, and live at the intersections of marginalisation.”
How this “violence,” this all-pervasive downtroddenness, is perpetuated by the receptionist at the local medical centre is, alas, not explained. No examples are offered. Indeed, evidence and logical argument are entirely absent. Given the sweeping nature of the demands, the absence of any kind of realistic and meaningful argument, with actual points of fact that one might address, is a tad curious.
Instead, we get a list of seemingly arbitrary words, among which, “colonisation, slavery, and white supremacy.” Oh, and “settler colonialism, heteropatriarchy, capitalism, ableism, classism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia…” Needless to say, the list is quite extensive, though not particularly illuminating. Less an explanation as an incantation. Magical words. With which to conjure contrived, pretentious guilt. A kind of modish neuroticism.
We are, however, told that the priorities of physicians, nurses, and medical administrators should be less about “professionalised knowledge,” those drug dosages and such, and more about “lenses of social justice.” These allegedly corrective lenses will “allow physicians to more effectively engage in… social change.” Suitably re-educated, their mentalities rewired, medical workers will have “bidirectional relationships with… the land.”
Which is obviously what you want when that itchy rash won’t go away.
At which point, it’s perhaps worth noting that the Royal College oversees Canada’s medical school education programmes. The institution is tasked with “setting national standards for medical education.”
So, nothing to worry about, then.
Update, via the comments:
Regarding this,
Svh adds,
Well, “anti-racism,” for instance, seems to consist largely of peddling black racial narcissism and anti-white sentiment, along with policies that actually sabotage the life-chances of minority students. Say, by actively championing a failure to learn rudimentary spelling and grammar:
So much for “critical thinking.”
And so, students who leave university saddled with debt and a worthless Angry Studies pseudo-qualification, and who subsequently repel employers with their chippy attitude, inept spelling, and grammatical incompetence, will presumably rationalise any rejection, any hardship, as proof of the evils of “whiteness” and the “racist society” that their lecturers banged on about. Because the more obvious explanation – that they were dupes, taken for a ride by race-hustling parasites – would be much too bruising to their egos.
In light of which, any value seems overwhelmingly negative. Except, of course, for the race-grifting mediocrities who get paid to propagate such things.
The contradictions of “equity” and competence have been noted here before, at some length, with striking illustrations. And while proponents of “equity” are often oddly reluctant to define this rather loaded term, it seems to mean something like equality of outcome regardless of inputs. And as values go, that isn’t entirely endearing. Or a basis for a civilisation.

Today’s word is ‘cult’, isn’t it?
Given that I suspect the report’s authors are all in for “Medical Assistance in Dying” as it has been so carefully named in the Great White North, I’m not sure they’ve got a foot to stand on complaining about violence…
They like lists of buzzwords. It’s easier than actual argument.
Well, it’s curious how, among the woke, the more strident and sweeping the demand, the less likely one is to be offered any kind of realistic and meaningful argument, with actual points of fact that one might address. More typically, we’re treated to an ever-growing list of presumptuous words. Begged questions abound.
Again, an incantation.
How prescient. Currently have one of those which gestated about four weeks ago. The back has been scoured and furrowed by a guided dishwashing brush to target the itch which jumps from one side to the other at whim. Obviously my doctor needs a new lens to probe this affliction before I revisit next week.
Given that I suspect the report’s authors are all in for “Medical Assistance in Dying”
Yes maid was the 6th largest “manner” of death in the Great White North last year. I say “manner” because the “experts” don’t recognize maid as a cause of death. 13,241 maid deaths in 2022 represents 4.1% of all deaths. Still, some Canadians would rather die than deal with our crappy health care system.
Apparently, even assisted suicide is “privileged.” According to a Rutgers study in the US, 95% of assisted deaths were well-off, well-educated non-Hispanic whites. They call it privilege, and here I thought they wanted us dead.
Round about the cauldron go
In a homophobic throw…
Since it is nearly always wimmin who promote this cant, the original imagery of the cauldron boilers is replaced by something even more grotesque.
Well, the word that comes to mind is woo. And it must be terribly convenient to issue demands, a radical overhaul of medical care for an entire country, without once using logic or evidence or anything approaching a rational argument. To inhabit an environment in which such piffling details are seemingly deemed unnecessary.
Canadians belief in “free Healthcare ” is every bit as dangerous as a mouse’s belief in “free cheese”. They are both traps. Our health institutions are among the most dangerous in the world, the COVID-19 deaths in Canadian institutions was the highest in the world. Murder is called MAID, and some criminals are not criminals(on account of racism etc).
These people aren’t well.
…focusing medical school education on the values of “anti-racism,” “anti-oppression,” “social justice and equity,” “inclusive compassion,” and “decolonisation.”
Fortunately Indigenous Ways of Knowings™ will let us know whether one is being oppressed by a tumor, and whether removing it is either an act of decolonization, or a failure of being inclusive of cellular equity. Leukemia is of course hwite supremacy.
I wonder if our descendants will one day look back and chuckle at how people so far gone, so unmoored from reality and any expectation of rational argument, were allowed to occupy positions of influence.

Kids, being kids, won’t believe the 35 year old elders when they speak of the before times.
The proponents of this grandiose, question-begging claptrap are, respectively,
Race first. “Activist” capitalised, naturally.
Hashtag “precision equity.” As seen above, one assumes.
And,
Possibly Canada’s whitest Mi’kmaw.
Translation (if you’re white):
No Medicine for you!
Come back 6 months.
It is interesting that the humanoid lifeform tagged as “Ritika Goel” claims to be “South Asian” versus, say, “Indian-Canadian” or some such. From a quick look at her twitter link, it appears that she is training her children to be insane.
*alarm bell*
South Asian woman…Immigrant and Settler.
Sounds like colonization to me.
I think the last line will rapidly turn out to be “Don’t come back.”.
Well, it’s a curious choice, a tad ostentatious, and presumably a signal of some sort. I mean, if I were to change my Twitter / X bio to “White blogger,” you might think it a little odd. Perhaps vaguely obnoxious.
Be interesting to see how well those incantatory phrases treat that sucking chest wound.
Not so much if it’s you being chanted over, perhaps, but, well, eggs, omelettes, you know . . .
A bit of capitalisation would have forestalled my initial concern over homicidal domestics.
I’m sorry but “vaguely obnoxious” and “David Thompson” are very close to anti-matter and matter combining. Difficult to imagine and very destructive if it actually occurred.
Meow.
In person, I’m a sweetheart. Your mothers would love me.
Certainly. Just prior to sacrificing 1st born calves to the gods who clearly built those giant arch thingies*

Once again, differential outcomes are attributed instantly to racism. The fact that minorities do not get their eyes checked often or ever which then causes glaucoma to lead to blindness is somehow due to oppression. Likewise the failure to abide by recommended treatments for high blood pressure or diabetes somehow is the doctors fault. Practicing unsafe sex and sharing needles? Caused by nurse Judy apparently. Just to point out that in Canada and the US the poor can get free medical care (Medicaid in the US) but to get care you have to go to doctor.
Might some doctors be racist? Probably. But in my local area (US) there are so many asian and Indian/Pakistani doctors it is hard to play the race card. One can of course try different docs if one is a racist.
There is a well-known association between IQ/education level and good health. Good genes and/or ability to take care of oneself? Probably.
Physician heal thyself?
A bit of capitalisation would have forestalled my initial concern over homicidal domestics.
At least you know where you stand with a homicidal domestic.
Sorry, it was 4:30 in the morning and I was battling insomnia. I wonder if that makes me a candidate for MAiD?
Don’t forget the medical branch of voodoo & indigenous knowledge, rub some dirt on that, burn some sage brush, beat a drum and dance twice daily, that will cure your cancer.
Sounds like an excuse for me to dig out this baby. From the Guardian, naturally.
The Hamas-booster types want to be in charge of your hospital. Expertise be damned.
Steve E:
It’s fitting that your final act be a privileged act. They will then loathe your memory.
Irony or just sad?
Medical soap operas used to have a standard plot where the hotshot “the body as a mechanism” physician learns humility and holistic thinking from a pretty nurse or patient. White women were the target market back then, and they’re the target market now for the message that Westerners need to be saved from our closed-mindedness by those soulful holistic lateral thinking non-Westerners. They’ll buy the Deepak Chopra online courses, they’ll allow their own people to be slandered by the likes of Ritika Goel and Kannin Osei-Tutu.
Meanwhile the oppressed immigrants, having been enslaved by our fleets of Boeing 777’s, are strangely eager to import their mothers into the Western medical system to cure them of diseases that the wise village woman hasn’t been able to fix in 40 years. The idea of an authoritative doctor pretending that his knowledge is of no more value than yours, that’s a Western status pose that just-off-the-boat immigrants aren’t equipped to understand. See also the “climate refugee” immigrants who aspire to owning a MacMansion with multiple SUV’s, not quite having grasped the subtleties of our system where people who live in gated communities in Malibu preach frugality to us.
These twits no doubt assume that after they corrupt medical school there will still, somehow, by magic, be surgeons to remove their cancer, meds for their otherwise fatal disease. Just like the Occupy Wall Street jerks wanted to end wall street while using their Iphone and laptops and riding fancy bikes. The disconnect from reality is simply stunning.
My post was meant to convey that the very idea of you being “vaguely obnoxious” was almost unthinkable. I appear to have failed in that.

This.
It’s the cargo cult mentality. There are people who expend much effort to produce an art installation that may look like a helicopter, but no matter how much the activists bend over backwards to praise and throw money at it/them, it ain’t never gonna fly, and even if they managed to attach an engine, the thing would never survive the forces of its own mass.
Handing a medical degree and scalpel to people of the correct Pantone shade and ideology will give them the ability to practice medicine and do surgery about as well as the helicopters built by the cargo cult “engineers” will fly. Oh they’ll do the carving up part ok – anyone can cut meat – but how will they know the good bits from the bad bits? Especially since we all look pretty much the same on the inside, regardless of the Pantone shade of the outside. How will they know what to do – the racism skin tone chart doesn’t go to internal shades.
When you live in a city, the reality you see is totally man-made. While cities existed in the past, you at least had horses/donkeys/oxen to move cargo prior to the invention of the internal combustion engine. Someone born and raised in a modern urban environment will (by default) have absolutely no idea how food, water, and power is produced and delivered into that city.
There’s the trope of the country bumpkin entering the big city and being fleeced or abused because that’s funny. The normal trope of the city dwellers going into the countryside appears to steer into the horror realm. Make of that as you see fit.
The malignant ignorance behind claims that most health outcomes are socially driven is breathtaking. But it seems to me to be a clever CYA, actually. When a 3rd rate minority intellect fails to accurately diagnose and treat disease, rather than be vulnerable to malpractice claims, they can blame their abysmal outcomes on white, cis-patriarchal, transphobic settler colonialism that devalues indigenous, two-spirit ways of knowing that could have cured your cardiac amyloidosis if it weren’t for those genocidal white people.

Just the antibiotics, thanks.

Skip mine, she’s been dead since ’08. But I am sure she’d appreciate the gesture. Ma was one classy dame.

Would be more useful if you signed a few Credit Note releases.
“Sorry, mate. Can’t give you a replacement drink for that note. More than me job’s worth. Mr. David has to sign a release. He’s out for the day, again…You’ll have to pay cash down for the beer…What’s that?…The beer’s cloudy?…No it’s not, mate; the glass is dirty…”
None of those things have value.
Inventing, discovering, creating are all very very difficult. We are not that smart. The stuff we take for granted took hundreds or thousands of small or large innovations and tons of hard work. This is especially true in medicine. We can’t do experiments on people (well, not anymore). Germs are sneaky. We still have very little handle on general inflammation, cancer, alzheimer’s. There is little one can do besides managing blood pressure to prevent stroke. We don’t know why some people live to 100. To act like it is all just routine now and we can simply focus on social justice (an imaginary cure for an imaginary illness) is to endanger the entire enterprise.
I had to take my parents to a hospital that was almost entirely black nurses. The surgeon confided to me that the staff were not very professional. It was pretty disorganized and poor care. This is how someone going in for a minor thing ends up crippled or dead.
The surgeon confided to me that the staff were not very professional. It was pretty disorganized and poor care.
Wait til the surgical staff and the doctors are all of the same caliber as the nursing staff there. I think some elderly care homes are already at that point.
Where do these academics think they are going to get medical care from when they’ve finally destroyed the current system? I’m not entirely sure they themselves will be satisfied with a list of buzzwords, some sage smoke, and some dung to rub on when they come in for something serious.
The bien pensants are blissfully unaware of just how complex and vulnerable any civilisation is.
