Exemplary Beings
Time for a quick flick through Scary Mommy, where left-leaning ladies are “supporting each other through laughter and empowerment.”
But of course.
My current fixation happens to be a home invasion… My house is nigh on impossible, according to my husband, to break into. However, I can’t stop thinking about it.
No explanation is offered by the author, Elizabeth Broadbent, as to possible causes, but the fixation with “scary men breaking into my home” entails lots of weeping – “tears and breakdowns” are a recurring theme – and the purchase of many things.
My husband has had to buy any number of security items. A raging liberal who believes no one has any reason to own anything but a permitted shotgun for hunting, I’ve contemplated buying a pistol. These thoughts will not go away… So I down another Klonopin and wait.
Oh, come on. It’s Scary Mommy. You knew some kind of mood-stabilising medication would crop up sooner or later. Other unhappy preoccupations include recurring thoughts of an expired husband:
I laid in bed imagining different ways he could meet his demise.
And,
After the birth of my third son, I became convinced that his head would fall off.
Okay, then.
That’s when… they upped my meds.
At which point, readers may wish to ponder just how often ladies of the left feel a need to list their mental health problems, as if engaged in some kind of competition, while demanding that the rest of us aspire to their greatness, emulate their lifestyles, and do as they say.
Ms Broadbent’s other empowering contributions include Why My Ex and I Are Getting Matching Tattoos – it’s his birthday present, you see; and Why I Don’t Really Care If My Kids Drop an F-Bomb. In which we learn that while “fuck” and other epithets are fine for a nine-year-old, “ethnic slurs” and “misogynist slurs” are of course taboo. Ms Broadbent is, needless to say, quite pleased with her discernment on this matter. We’re also informed that the word uppity is “totally racist language,” regardless of context or intent, as is the phrase no can do.
Readers in search of further wisdom can learn, in some detail, of the looming age of “reusable toilet paper” – i.e., wiping your bottom with the remains of old T-shirts:
doing [a] wash every three to four days, for a family of six, you need about 100 wipes.
Inevitably, Ms Broadbent wants you to know her pronouns.
Update, via the comments:
Previously in Scary Mommy…
Why, one might think there were a pattern.
Thanks a lot. This has just set me OFF. There will be a tiger snake in my bed tonight that’s for sure, and if it’s not there I will lie awake in a cold sweat waiting for it to slither under the blankets to joint the spiders. And all I have in the house is Asprin @100mg
ladies of the left feel a need to list their mental health problems
I have to wonder if they’re just encouraging the development of neuroses (or just claimed conditions, you know, so they can be special – stylish, trendy, but not-too-terrible afflictions) in their readers.
I can’t recall whether it was Orwell & Goode, Garbage Human, or Battle Beagle who compiled an extensive series of screenshots of woke-lings’ tweets in which the word “depression” crops us. It became a meme of sorts.
Ms Broadbent, meanwhile, appears to have most of the ideological tics expected of her type – Trump Derangement Syndrome, a fixation with pop culture aimed at teenagers, pretentious racial fawning – and tedious neuroticism and self-preoccupation, such that every other article seems to be about how fragile and complicated her feelings are.
[sigh…]
With the usual caveat of “how much truth is there in all this”, one just feels sorry for the husband. Although perhaps not, because after all, Reader, he married her…
Again, nuts.
Ain’t the internet great?
“he married her…”
And (presumably)…well, do I need to spell it out?
’10 Common Phrases That Are Racist’ – well I don’t care. Winco Guy Gibson’s dog was called Nigger and that’s how he will always be remembered by me.
As for Ms. E. Broadbent [and speaking as someone who has had frequent panic attacks for all my life] methinks she is a self-indulgent and attention-seeking fool using her ‘condition’ to manipulate all the suckers in her life.
A raging liberal who believes no one has any reason to own anything but a permitted shotgun for hunting, I’ve contemplated buying a pistol.
OTOH, you could just get a shotgun, but I digress.
Among the side effects of clonazeapam, particularly at higher doses, are mood changes, insomnia, nightmares, feelings of unreality, and hallucinations. Though it may be hard to tell what she is complaining about here from baseline, the words “second opinion” come to mind for some reason.
Ms Broadbent’s other empowering contributions include Why My Ex and I Are Getting Matching Tattoos…
Awwwwww. Well, Bush did say he was a uniter, not a divider.
Her photo shows someone who would have fitted in rather well as a member of the Charles Manson family. Her words do nothing to lessen that impression.
one just feels sorry for the husband
Meh, he made his bed….but those poor little boys. I have met people like this and it never ends well for the children.
Scary Mommy is the old show Queen For a Day online and without the washing machine prizes.

This.
This.
And this.
There is, I think, a pattern.
There is, I think, a pattern
Men sticking, well… into crazy?
Hmm.
Among the side effects of clonazeapam, particularly at higher doses, are mood changes, insomnia, nightmares, feelings of unreality, and hallucinations.
Perhaps that would explain the unusual use of mascara, which, being applied quite heavily to the lower lashes, gives the impression of someone who’s been crying.
Elizabeth Broadbent
Did she escape from a Monty Python skit?
Klonopin
Of course.
Whenever there’s a toxic relationship, whether to persons or to politics, that needs to be maintained, the little yellow chill pill is seldom far behind.
Why does sex magic have to be so heteronormative?
It isn’t fucking real so it doesn’t matter.
“After the birth of my third son, I became convinced that his head would fall off.”
That is why it is recommended to always support the babies neck.
Insofar as the husband goes – yeah, it was his choice. My sympathies always lean to the captive children (although we can probably expect a hand wringing article about the environmental/social/racial implications of having more than a single child).
As I’ve said before, leftism entails quite a lot of pretending. There are so many things you mustn’t notice in order to conform. To live in a state of near-continual pretension and insincerity, of chronic bad faith, must take a toll. That it often coincides with some quite serious mental health issues shouldn’t be too surprising, I suppose.
But wait – all through the Summer of Peaceful Protest, we were told we were RAAAAACISS if we objected to our homes being invaded and our things stolen? On both sides of the pond, there’s an attitude on the Left that the Dear [insert name of current fashionable Oppressed Victim Group here] Needs the Stuff More Than You Do, so just shut up and let them take it. And It’s Only Stuff. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen articles posted here on just that subject. So how does this Scary Mommy justify her fears? How come she hasn’t been canceled yet? Or it’s ok if the burglars are white in your fear porn fantasy?
all through the Summer of Peaceful Protest, we were told we were RAAAAACISS if we objected to our homes being invaded and our things stolen?
Side note: (Already familiar to readers of this blog but well stated.)
Idiot Compassion:
“One of the most useful concepts for understanding the Left is what Tibetan Buddhist teacher Chogyam Trungpa called ‘idiot compassion’…”
I didn’t watch “the interview’ as it was just going to be a bunch of whines about how hard done by H & M were. But reading this is a reminder of how our new career opportunities involves making yourself out to be a victim. I have always maintained that when everyone is a victim the real victims, such as children who have NO options, the elderly and frail who have NO options, and those with serious disabilities that limit their ability in doing day to day things most people take for granted – get ignored. And having worked with the disability community for a long time, most people who are disabled don’t see themselves as victims and only want a chance to show what they can do. Most ‘victims’ are adults who make poor decisions and the solution is to make better decisions.
Thanks for that idiot compassion link, pst. Though for something a little more palatable (yes, I know…) I found this take:

I have always maintained that when everyone is a victim the real victims… get ignored.
Some time ago, after posting something in which yet another middle-class lefty was whining about some sub-microscopic agony, thereby signalling their own status as an elevated being, I went for a walk to a nearby café. On arrival, I saw that a new employee was quite startlingly disfigured – to an extent that I had to make an effort not to stare. The gulf between, on the one hand, the alleged oppressions of spellcheck software, or barbecues, or having one’s unusual name mispronounced, and on the other, the person taking the order for my lunch, was hard to miss.
Ms Broadbent is, needless to say, quite pleased with her discernment on this matter.
She should be careful — a common synonym for discernment is discrimination.
She gets her marching orders from Biden.

I have discovered, quite independently of Ms Broadbent, that I can get a lot with just a shotgun. I can withdraw money from any bank. I can make people do my yard work. I can take any parking space I desire and pay not one penny for it.
So many things are possible with a shotgun. They are quite empowering.
And then I wake up and have to go to work.
“Idiot compassion.”
Now that’s a phrase I’ve been looking for, for 30+ years. That’s liberalism summed in two words–or at least that’s what it was before liberalism became so viciously malevolent in our current era.
Was its coinage linked to Marx’s “useful idiots,” or is that just a coincidence?
“he married her…”
And (presumably)…well, do I need to spell it out?
Apparently most of the articles at Scary Mommy illustrate the real reason for the old “don’t stick your dick in crazy” rule. The risk isn’t that she’ll key your car, kill your pet rabbit, and burn down your house (usually, but I suppose that could be at the tail end of the hot/crazy matrix). It is that you’ll settle down with her before she becomes an anxious, pill-popping wreck and she finally ruins your life after 10 or 20 years.
And what is with the crown on the site logo? It’s not particularly scary but it looks like a way to signal superiority. What kind of competition are they in? Do they feel a need to reassure themselves or their readers that they’re better than someone or something?
Garbage Human Twitter still suspended, FYI. A shame, always a good laugh. And no, not going to Instagram thanks.
Did she make white babies? If she did someone needs to let her know that that’s racist
Garbage Human Twitter still suspended…
I lost count of his suspensions at 9, the last was one of his longest lived iterations, I suspect he’ll be back.
Garbage Human Twitter still suspended, FYI.
If Garbage reappears with a new account name, please mention it here. (The latest iteration was GarbyJooman3.) Orwell & Goode, Battle Beagle, and Old Holborn have also been repeatedly suspended.
So, Scary Mommy is where all the Tumblrinas who were always going on about their bisexuality and mental health problems end up when they start having kids. That is a bit scary.
Off topic, well, not entirely, seeing as as how it has to do with lefty lunacy, there is a new movement, and it is driving the transklan and other 678,098 genders crazy.

Are you #superstraight or #supergay ? Check it out, the amount of superphopia out there is horrifying.
Garbage Human…Orwell & Goode, Battle Beagle, and Old Holborn
You do begin to notice a trend in twatter links around these parts. I started going straight to the lolz fountainhead and now truly understand what a cancer that site is. A dispiritingly funny cancer, but still.
Credit notes to [B]lack-owned businesses only, please, David.
It is that you’ll settle down with her before she becomes an anxious, pill-popping wreck
It’s been my experience that you can usually detect these by looking at family of origin. This is one of those hatefacts, because once you acknowledge that childhood family environment has a significant influence on personality, behaviour and life outcomes you might start looking at what types of families correlate with what kinds of outcomes.
you might start looking at what types of families correlate with what kinds of outcomes.
Worth noting how a stable, functional, two-parent family is now described as a “conservative idea.”
For those who missed it, and somewhat related.
With apologies to the ladies present, bitches be trippin’. And this one be trippin’ hard.
It’s sad in a way that the Internet has allowed her to share her inner demons with the universe, to expose that ugliness to the world at large. One can hope it’s at least a beneficial form of therapy, otherwise I’d worry for the wellbeing/lives of her male family members.

Elizabeth Broadbent
– the last name alone will of course explain immediately to the Canucks in the crowd that the subject will be a deranged lefty.
She has yet to learn the familial trick of feeding at multiple publicly funded troughs though. Perhaps with a reduction in meds and and an increase in schmoozing she can live up to her surname.
Worth noting how a stable, functional, two-parent family is now described as a “conservative idea.”
Last year I caused a party to devolve into a near riot by citing the following well-sourced and entirely neutral facts:
Given a baseline of two biological parents:
* children raised by single mothers are 2-5 times more likely to have a host of negative life outcomes, from drug abuse to school dropouts to criminal charges/prison
* children raised by blended families, or via shared custody, are 2-3 times more likely to have negative life outcomes (sadly this category includes adopted/fostered children)
* [here’s where the screaming started] children raised by single fathers are no worse than the baseline
The implication being, of course, that in the event of a divorce “the best interests of the child” are that the father always be given sole custody.
The attendants at the party in question were about 50% single mothers who had divorced the fathers of their children.
What amused me most is that a number of the single mothers claim to have degrees in mathematics and the physical sciences, and yet not a one of them spotted the obvious: that children raised by single fathers are so incredibly rare that they aren’t a statistically significant sample, and such fathers are incredibly invested in raising their children, making them an atypical set that isn’t generalizable.
But boy howdy, did they scream.

Laughter?
Surely, Scared Mommy?
Klonopin
Why do Americans never do fun drugs?

That was my first thought when I saw the name too. Never shake Ed’s family tree too hard. You never know what kind of nuts are going to fall out.

Nothing bespeaks emotional stability quite fixations on “scary men breaking into my home” and lots of weeping in response to … uh … nothing at all.
“the word uppity is ‘totally racist language,’ regardless of context or intent“
Against purple toffs with short limbs, top hats, and monocles, presumably.
(Seriously, this is the context in which the word has always been used in Britain. I’m quite certain that until the 1980s – possibly even more recently – 99% of Brits would have had no clue as to why anyone considered it racist. In the name of “anti-racism”, we’re importing foreign bigotries.)
Worth noting how a stable, functional, two-parent family is now described as a “conservative idea.”
Can’t have ideals and certainly not anything approaching a norm.
Related.
The witch panic, in hindsight, makes a lot more sense now, doesn’t it? Thanks, Scary Mommy, for showing how our ancestors weren’t really all that different from us.
“Laughter?”
Does anyone remember laughter?
But boy howdy, did they scream.
Your ways of making girls scream at parties are much more civilized than my ways of making girls scream at parties.
It’s been my experience that you can usually detect these by looking at family of origin.
Sadly, yes.
