Farnsworth M Muldoon steers us, once again, to the pages of Everyday Feminism:
Can’t say so, no. Compulsively tearing out one’s own hair and ripping one’s own skin like an unhappy parrot, which is what we’re actually talking about here, isn’t the most common way to while away the evenings.
But a thought does occur. Given that the publication in question addresses subjects of this kind with extraordinary frequency – covering a thrilling spectrum of neuroses and personality disorders, even delusions of witchcraft and clairvoyance – it’s hard to avoid the impression that the readership of Everyday Feminism, and certainly its staff, is largely made up of people with quite serious mental health issues.
Next week, an article for readers who spend their evenings eating tissues by the fistful and then being sick behind the sofa. #GirlPower!
If that’s an example of “everyday” feminism, I’d love to see the non-quotidian variety.

How did I miss that one?
How did I miss that one?
It is rather special. And I do like the idea that you can buy crystal pendants and sea shells that, we’re assured, “have been cleansed and charged” and “made with positive energy” – by someone who suffers from “generalised anxiety and chronic insomnia,” who’s “not filled with love and light,” and who doesn’t “have strict control” over their “moods and emotions.”
I’m torn between feeling compassion for those thus afflicted and revulsion that their abnormalities are being championed as “another kind of normal.”
There’s a school of therapy wherein “it’s only a problem if you’ve got a problem with it.” So my sister’s ex-husband went to a therapist who, instead of saying, “maybe you should stop lying to her face,” helped him be cool with the lying.
There’s a school of therapy wherein “it’s only a problem if you’ve got a problem with it.”
There’s something… unhappy about the repeated use of the word “valid” and the gushing fluff about being “awesome” – “you’re cool and special and valued just as you are.” As if compulsive self-mutilation were little more than a faintly eccentric lifestyle choice and not to be judged by others as a cause for concern.
Everyday Mentalism.
@Lancastrian Oik – there was a ‘high days and holidays feminism’ site, but it was mainly screaming.
Stacy McCain has been doing a lot of heavy lifting in exposing the insanity of modern feminists at his “The Other McCain” blog.
I’m torn between feeling compassion for those thus afflicted and revulsion that their abnormalities are being championed as “another kind of normal.”
Therein lies the problem, and if you follow David’s links, or just go spelunking there yourself, that is precisely what is happening. The second order effect is that they do themselves no favors because they are constantly reinforcing their oddball beliefs and behaviors either with their self congratulation and affirmation, and/or blowing off or minimizing needed therapy.
Tips for BPD is a prime example. BPD, given the rates of self harm associated with it, is not something to be taken lightly, yet it is addressed with a MS-Paint cartoon, and the first advice is to go to “support groups” on Farcebook, Live Journal, and Tumblr (!).
After that there is lip service to seeing some brand of therapist and meds, but then goes off the rails about how being a furry and Tumblr (!) are the dog’s bollocks. The last 6 panels go back to Tumblr(!) and the last panel:
Yay ! It is OK to have Crohn’s disease !
No, neither are “OK” to have, they require medical treatment, not Tumblr or healing crystals.
No, neither are “OK” to have, they require medical treatment, not Tumblr or healing crystals
Ah, but this wise position transgresses the principles of inclusion and acceptance. You cannot just say some people and their behaviours are not OK. That doesn’t make them feel accepted! You may even want to exclude them from certain social situations because of their condition, which is plainly heretical. No, we cannot tolerate this intolerance.
Seriously though, look at the manic expression of that cartoon avatar and imagine the real life equivalent…
Speaking of mental health issues, this article “debunking” everything you thought you knew about Furry culture confirms all the things you suspected about Furries.
Do we have to include and accept furries too? (ofc yes; it’s the only way not to be a bigot)
RE:Furries
*all characters belong to their owners*
heh… uh, wouldn’t want to step on any toes (or hooves, paws, etc…)
Wrong place to put this I guess but on the subject of personality disorder here’s Laurie Penny…
Magnificence….Shame it wasn’t the other Hitchens sitting next to her. THAT I’d pay money to see…

Oh lord…
None of the other speakers present seem to know what on earth her GOT reference is really about (neither do I tbh) other than a stage for puerile character assassination. It’s so bad feel genuinely embarrassed for her.
Yes, all those horrible whit, ,idle-class men were being very very polite indeed….
The other Hitchens might have lacked such grace.
Or might not….
Nope, I’ve decided, Christopher Hitchens would have shredded her without concern for her ….feelings…
this article “debunking” everything you thought you knew about Furry culture confirms all the things you suspected about Furries.
By trying to downplay the fetish aspect, the perviness, she somehow makes the thing sound more absurd and worrisome.
. . . everything you thought you knew about Furry culture . . .
Don’t forget the roadmap . . .
on the subject of personality disorder here’s Laurie Penny…
I suppose the Tales From The Far Side glasses were inevitable. Must be that non-conformism she bangs on about.
“… eating tissues by the fistful …”
Will this include bacon and beef tissue consumption?
Cheers
#GirlPower!
LOL God help us.
Will this include bacon and beef tissue consumption?
Yes, processed meat tissue (CMYK)
If meat tissue isn’t a band name, I don’t know what is.
LOL God help us.
But that’s the thing. You might naïvely browse Everyday Feminism expecting to find empowered, liberated ladypersons, full of confidence and charisma. But instead you’ll see a sad parade of misfits, self-absorbed inadequates and the neurotically unemployable – all with eerily similar hang-ups and pretensions. Apparently, the Amazons Of Tomorrow™ will be phoning in sick because they’ve pulled out their eyelashes again.
“It’s so bad feel genuinely embarrassed for her”
Quite so. Unable to offer any analysis in person – all she can do is provide carefully confected rage in print – Laurie’s contribution was excruciatingly vacuous.
Wymyns seem particularly prone other behaviors like BFRBs: eating disorders, depression, cutting, and mass hysteria.
I’m waiting for Everyday Feminism to explain how that is all my fault.
Speaking of mental health issues, this article “debunking” everything you thought you knew about Furry culture confirms all the things you suspected about Furries.
Excellent cartoon, I particularly like the panels 2-6 where she fursplains that everyone who doesn’t think that furries are a) normal, and b) the up-twinkliest thing ever to come down the pike, are ignorant, cruel, bigoted gits.

“Just Starting Psych Meds? Here’s a Guide to Help You.”
Once you start looking, you’ll be there all day. And in between the cartoons on how to take your mood stabilisers and anti-psychotic medication, you’ll find articles explaining how your Designated Victim Group is almost certainly oppressing some other Designated Victim Group and why you should feel bad about it.
The fun never stops.
“this article “debunking” everything you thought you knew about Furry culture confirms all the things you suspected about Furries.”
Or, as some say, Skunk F*ckers. 🙂
Time to remember the classic line form A Very Peculiar Practice:
‘What we call illness is something that men do to women’
“#GirlPower”?
Here I was thinking the ability to carry and bring life into this world was pretty ‘powerful’, but I guess that’s passe these days.
Which way to the reprogramming booth, again?
Which way to the reprogramming booth, again?
Oh, we did away with the booth after the coils burnt out again. We now have a moral realignment centrifuge. It corrects your views quite effectively and also does wonders for bowel regularity.
Centrifuges can’t do re-grooving, so what is the new, trendy terminology?
the readership of Everyday Feminism, and certainly its staff, is largely made up of people with quite serious mental health issues.
…nah, I’ve banged on about this stuff enough.
I do find it interesting that the Tips for BPD sufferers really doesn’t seem to be about BPD.
“Just Starting Psych Meds? Here’s a Guide to Help You.”
This is why the site is so potentially harmful. From the above:
Yes, well, you can find those who “debate” whether azithromycin can treat Haemophilus influenza, but the overwhelming evidence accepted by physicians, mental health professionals, the epidemiologists and other researchers, and the pharmaceutical manufacturers who put the warnings in the prescribing info is that there is a significant association. Of course, most of them are part of the patriarchy and exerting some kind of privilege, so what do they know.
Gee, thanks for that blinding flash of the obvious, and what would those risks be ? Perhaps suicidal thoughts and behaviors maybe ?
Of course that risk is only there should one chose to go to a doc and get meds, EF and Tumblr are risk free ways to deal with mental problems.
I do find it interesting that the Tips for BPD sufferers really doesn’t seem to be about BPD.
I would imagine there is a whole lot od self-diagnosing going on over there.
Furry culture…
Given the choice between dating a furry or dating a feminist, I’d take the furry every time. I suspect it would be more fun, and I wouldn’t have to deal with the feminist’s petty-fogging neuroses all the time.
…and I wouldn’t have to deal with the feminist’s petty-fogging neuroses…
That assumes you can avoid those who are in what is probably a large overlap in the Venn diagram.
Best to avoid both and go to a biker bar – far safer.
So glad I read that cure ’em all from the ladies at Everyday Feminism. Is it ‘jock rot,’ is it that bloody creeping psoriasis, is it worms? Not to worry what the cause. The urge to scratch my arse, sometimes in august company, will no longer hold me back from an holistic approach to everyday living. On with the boxing gloves, and no more embarrassing myself and others, by seeking immediate relief.
There’s a school of therapy wherein “it’s only a problem if you’ve got a problem with it.” So my sister’s ex-husband went to a therapist who, instead of saying, “maybe you should stop lying to her face,” helped him be cool with the lying.
Yeah, I had a discussion with somebody at work who had been to therapists and she said she was surprised to find that at least one of them wasn’t actually interested in finding a solution to the root-cause of the problem: he/she just offered a “solution” whereby the patient was made to feel better about themselves.
During one of our discussions, my old pal Angela told me she was confident in approach to the world because she’d “been to therapy”. I know she wouldn’t have had much money at the time, so I imagine she didn’t get the best on offer. She said she went in order to cope with the trauma of her divorce, but bizarrely said she didn’t talk about the open relationships, the orgies, the older men, etc. I would have thought any decent therapist would consider this essential context in the breakdown of a marriage, but Angela either insisted these had no bearing whatsoever before the therapy session and kept them quiet, or she found a therapist who told her exactly what she wanted to hear: there is nothing wrong with her at all, and it is all somebody else’s fault.
The second order effect is that they do themselves no favors because they are constantly reinforcing their oddball beliefs and behaviors either with their self congratulation and affirmation, and/or blowing off or minimizing needed therapy.
This is exactly what Angela did: surround herself with deeply weird individuals (which she called friends, but a good chunk of the males – who were invariably much older – were shagging her) who told her exactly what she wanted to hear, i.e. that there was nothing wrong with her and everyone should accept her exactly as they are and if they can’t then fuck them. She was only too happy to adopt this attitude, egged on by her “friends”, extending it even to her parents and sister “who would never understand me, they are too close-minded”. It’s tragic because somebody should have got a grip of her and persuaded her to sort these issues out years ago. Or perhaps somebody did, but got spit in the eye for their efforts. I know my efforts to get her to admit just maybe her communication skills need to be a little better were met with shouting and anger. So they seek out the company of other headcases, but it doesn’t seem to bring much happiness in the long run.
Speaking of knowing your readership…

…have fun.
I’ve said this before, the vast majority of “therapists” belong in therapy themselves. It’s a self repeating cycle of dysfunction and the normalizing of dysfunction.
susie-orbach-in-therapy-everyone-wants-to-talk-about-brexit
To be fair, when this country decided to elect Obama – twice – I felt a little out of place myself. To quote the article, “Notions of what the [US] has stood for in [my] consciousness [did get] shredded.” Oh, it didn’t lead me to go to therapy, but I did increase my contributions to the NRA.
We all have our coping mechanisms.
Speaking of the mentally disturbed this charming young Miss would fit right in to the pages of EF, right down to the ring in the nose.
It appears that East Asian person of color Miss Lam is horribly oppressed by the white rape culture of UC Berkeley where the enrollment in 2015 is 39.9% East Asian, and cracker-ass honkey white devils are outnumbered not only by Asians, but by persons of various hue 3:1 at only 24.3%. Oops.
Read the whole thing, as the kids say.
I’ve said this before, the vast majority of “therapists” belong in therapy themselves.
Back in the Sixties, I knew a guy who was working on a Ph.D. in clinical psychology.
I said: “I hear that nine out of ten clinical psychologists are crazy.”
He replied: “Shit. Ten out of ten.”
Speaking of the mentally disturbed this charming young Miss would fit right in to the pages of EF, right down to the ring in the nose.
Ah, she of FUCK WHITE MEN fame. But remember, this young missy is a coloured person, thus reducing any charge of racism to simple prejudice.
Ah, she of FUCK WHITE MEN fame
What makes you think they’d be interested?
Correction, it’s “Fucking White Boys”
