Withdrawal Symptoms
Or, Our Betters Breathe Deeply – Into A Paper Bag:
Mr Tiedrich tweets about Donald Trump many times, every day. And Ms Vee meditates, you know.
Update, via the comments:
Jen quips, “They’re going to miss him.”
Well, I suppose that if your peer group is one that requires endless, competitive signalling – via breathless claims of how monstrous and fascistic the current incumbent of the White House is, and how mentally debilitating even thinking about him is, which you nonetheless do, every day, of course – then the prospect of losing that object of hate, and status, must be a cause of… mixed feelings. Though it’s quite odd how the people who imagine themselves our political betters, the ones to whom we should defer, are very often neurotic monomaniacs whose minds seem bizarrely fragile and forever on the verge of coming undone.
Update 2:
In the comments, Martin adds, “Most of them are just acting.”
That seems quite possible. Certainly, pretension and role-play are signatures of the woke, and of leftism more generally. But here’s the thing. If, as Ms Vee and others claim, the thought of Donald Trump induces panic attacks, psychological crises, and difficulties breathing, for years, then, clearly, there’s something wrong with you. And if you feel a need to repeatedly and very publicly pretend that the thought of Donald Trump induces panic attacks, psychological crises, and difficulties breathing, for years – along with impotence and flaccidity – then… well, there’s something wrong with you.
As to which of the two compulsions is more dysfunctional, I’m not entirely sure.
Via Garbage Human, who adds, “Imagine thinking this is a reflection on Trump.”
Consider this an open thread, in which to share links and bicker.
They’re going to miss him. 🙂

I am literally laughing.
Also, this from the New York Times made me giggle my goddamned ass off:
“ “It will be a long time before they feel safe again at work, they say, knowing that a building once thought to be among the most secure in Washington could be breached by a mob carrying, among other things, a Confederate flag and displaying anti-Semitic iconography…. The Capitol Police have come under fire for seeming, at times, to offer little resistance to the pro-Trump mob. While some experts defended their actions as prioritizing the protection of lawmakers over the securing of the building, many congressional staff members, along with custodial and food service workers, were left wondering whether they were safe…. Black staff members in particular said the rampage had reminded them of the struggles they had often had to come to terms with in order to work for Congress…. One Black congressional staff member who also took a walk through the Capitol to survey the aftermath on Wednesday night said that despite all the damage, he had been stopped in his tracks outside Representative Steny Hoyer’s office, where a poster honoring John Lewis, the congressman and civil rights leader who died in August, had been displayed. It was missing. He looked for it feverishly and found only a broken piece on the ground next to a trash can. The image of Mr. Lewis was gone. All that remained of his celebrated quote, ‘Get into good trouble, necessary trouble,’ were the final two words — smudged by a boot print.”
Wait a sec … I feel something coming on … ahhhhhhh HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
I am literally laughing.
It’s quite odd how the people who imagine themselves our political betters, the ones to whom we should defer, are very often neurotic monomaniacs whose minds seem bizarrely fragile and forever on the verge of coming undone.
Two more-or-less unrelated comments:
1. the left talks about making Trump disappear from the national memory but – they cannot. They have nothing to offer – no projects to distract us, no grand schemes, no value to deliver. They have to keep Trump in the public eye in order to say, “See? We are better than this guy!”
2. I saw a meme yesterday. “We spend $750 billion on “defense” and the center of American government fell to the duck dynasty and the guy in the chewbacca bikini.” Now we hear calls for cleansing, marking (yellow stars anyone?), silencing opposition, and overwhelming government response. Cui bono?
“Mr Tiedrich tweets about Donald Trump many times, every day…They’re going to miss him.”
The left always needs an Emmanuel Goldstein.
the left talks about making Trump disappear from the national memory…
It goes far beyond that: the left talks about shutting down all conservative opinion on the internet–and anywhere else, too, since the left also talks about denying banking services to conservatives.
He looked for it feverishly and found only a broken piece on the ground next to a trash can. The image of Mr. Lewis was gone. All that remained of his celebrated quote, ‘Get into good trouble, necessary trouble,’ were the final two words — smudged by a boot print.”
Jayson Blair‘s not back on the staff at The New York Times by any chance, is he?
I mean, there’s a lot in their mea culpa that sounds eerily familiar 17 years later:
A staff reporter for The New York Times committed frequent acts of journalistic fraud while covering significant news events in recent months [ …]
The reporter, Jayson Blair, 27, misled readers and Times colleagues with dispatches that purported to be from Maryland, Texas and other states, when often he was far away, in New York. He fabricated comments. He concocted scenes. He lifted material from other newspapers and wire services. He selected details from photographs to create the impression he had been somewhere or seen someone, when he had not.
And he used these techniques to write falsely about emotionally charged moments in recent history …
I am literally laughing.
And whistling past the graveyard. We have taken these idiots far too lightly for far too long and now they rule over us. I have failed to see the humor in this for decades now.
I agree WTP,
I have been waiting patiently since applying for a green card in 2016. Maybe I’m the one being paranoid now but I wonder if my posts to various Conservative sites, which would undoubtedly rank me in the top 50 million or so deplorables, will come back to haunt me should my application ever reach the front of the line.
Still the most powerful man in the world, with a massive number of motivated supporters. They should be scared. Had I called for a violent Marxist revolution, I would be too.
The folks who have been saying, “Trump is the greatest threat to democracy in my lifetime” are soon going to discover that the past four years have been a walk in the park.
I have been deliberately avoiding the news since the beginning of the year, when I discovered that it adversely affected my blood pressure and kept me from doing productive work.
Which is why I didn’t learn the details about what went on at the Capitol at the time. Plus, I knew the rule: wait four days until the details come out that contradict the breathless “reporting.”
Which is why I was gobsmacked to learn that the protesters somehow managed to get into the Capitol building, which should be one of the most locked-down buildings in the country, next to the White House.
This, after the government spent millions on a visitors center and heightened security a few years back.
So how did they get in? There was some mention on Instapundit that it was a Capitol Police officer who literally unlocked and opened the door to them.
I’m sure the reporters will follow up on that story and learn how this happened. Right after they’ve asked Obama about that Oval Office meeting with Biden over the fake Russian dossier.
The folks who have been saying, “Trump is the greatest threat to democracy in my lifetime” are soon going to discover that the past four years have been a walk in the park.

I fully expect them to cling to their delusions for a long, long time.
Trump’s social media accounts will be restored. It is necessary for the libs. For the next four years, whenever PDT criticizes any policy of President Xi, er, Biden, the Washington Post and CNN will trumpet this new “assault on Democracy” in order to let their audience know that criticism of the viceroy is badthink.
Trump’s social media accounts will be restored. It is necessary for the libs.
Well, we’ll see. But lots of conservative opinion sites will be shut down. It’s already started, as you know.
I don’t know what Donald Trump is doing, but thanks to our fearless, hard-hitting investigators in journalism, I know it involves Diet Coke and at least two scoops of ice cream.
Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared the incursion equivalent to Kristallnacht. Clearly he did not study the history of the Third Reich when a young lad in Austria. Kristallnacht was a direct attack by the SA on the Jews and everything Jewish. Perhaps he meant the burning of the Reichstag “widely believed to have been contrived by the newly formed Nazi government itself to turn public opinion against its opponents and to assume emergency powers”?
Further after the fire: ‘”Hitler urged President Paul von Hindenburg to issue an emergency decree to suspend civil liberties and pursue a ruthless confrontation” with the Communist Party of Germany. After the decree was issued, the government instituted mass arrests of communists, including all of the Communist Party’s parliamentary delegates. With their bitter rival communists gone and their seats empty, the Nazi Party went from having a plurality to a majority, thus enabling Hitler to consolidate his power.’
There seems little doubt that the Democrats will endeavour to cement their power by distorting the events at and concerning the riot and go after anyone they can tie to it with the same fervour shown by AH as he killed off his ‘Red’ rivals. Lies, lies and more lies will be the Democrat order of the day. Smirking Pelosi, shown on local TV news last night, was in her unctuous element. What a horrible person she is, so sincere in her insincerity.
I am ignorant regarding the operations of the Interwebs.
If the Tech Oligarchs stifle and remove conservatives from their sites and don’t allow conservative blogs on their platforms, is there a real alternative?
I know that technically it is possible, but it is feasible? Is it likely that some individual would be able to create a hosting platform which could be a refuge for blogs and twitter-like applications?
If it could be done, would it then be at the mercy of the communications companies who provide mobile and cable broadband? Could they block such platforms (in the way that the British Govt was pressuring them to block porn sites?)
We know that large companies are increasingly following “woke” corporate practices. If, say, an organisation such as the American SPLC or the increasingly risible Amnesty International creates a list of “Nazi” websites/ blogs, and banks and communications companies used such a list as justification to deny service to such websites, can they effectively prevent them from operating and reaching large numbers of people?
…so sincere in her insincerity.
An animal is an animal is an animal, and the the only law an animal follows is Nature’s own: any means to an end.

“I know that technically it is possible, but it is feasible?”
Getting kicked off a hosting platform: Anyone can buy set up their own web server and connect it to the internet.
Getting your app banned by Apple et al: You don’t really need an app, I suppose, since much can be accomplished with a browser interface.
But what about when your ISP disconnects you? Can you find another ISP? Or will they all, one by one, get in line with the suppression of Wrong Think? Likely enough. And what if your bank cuts you off? With no credit card services, how do you collect payments and donations? Or buy food, for that matter?
The Good People at National Review will probably advise you that a true conservative would not regard the above as a matter for the courts but an opportunity to build your own internet.

I await the Biden-Xi Pact.
If the Tech Oligarchs stifle and remove conservatives from their sites and don’t allow conservative blogs on their platforms, is there a real alternative?
At the moment, yes. Gab.com was completely deplatformed, so they built their own physical data center and host their servers there, they have multiple redundant internet feeds and they accept payment in cash/postal money orders/bitcoin.
If it could be done, would it then be at the mercy of the communications companies who provide mobile and cable broadband? Could they block such platforms (in the way that the British Govt was pressuring them to block porn sites?)
Sadly, yes. Unlike web sites or social media services, Internet service providers actually are common carriers, and the infamous s.230 does not apply to them. In theory if they were to cut you off due to the nature of your content they could be sued. However, as a practical matter there are many ways they could invoke a termination of service without legal liability. There is also the matter of whether you might trust the courts to rule fairly if they did cut you off for ideological reasons and dared you to sue them.
If, say, an organisation such as the American SPLC or the increasingly risible Amnesty International creates a list of “Nazi” websites/ blogs, and banks and communications companies used such a list as justification to deny service to such websites, can they effectively prevent them from operating and reaching large numbers of people?
Yes. This has already happened to Gab.com. For now, they are surviving, but with Trump out of the White House and the Senate in Democratic hands the likelihood of a return to the days of the federal government’s alphabet agencies being weaponized against its political opponents seems nigh. I expect that some form of bogus criminal charges will ultimately be laid against Andrew Torbe.
I have failed to see the humor in this for decades now.
I think a shooting civil war in 2021 is inevitable. The progressives seem to be doing everything in their power to start it.
@ DR: “I think a shooting civil war in 2021 is inevitable. The progressives seem to be doing everything in their power to start it.”
The Democrats and their extremist socialist running mates seem oblivious to the needs and beliefs of hardworking, mainstream [white] US citizens whom they have been abusing and denigrating for years. They seem likely to continue to do so out of malice and also shear stupidity. They do not seem to understand [human] behaviour as they seek absolute power and continue to push conservatives into a corner. Pelosi’s new language Bill is one such example of their extreme dictatorial mindset. There is always a point when people who are being punished for just being who they are – in this case mostly white, middle-class, Christian conservatives – will explode in anger.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared the incursion equivalent to Kristallnacht.
Chucky Schumer from the Senate floor declared it the equivalent to Pearl Harbor.
I have yet to see one “reporter” ask the follow up question that “If so, Senator Schumer, we know Democrat President FDR’s follow-up move was to move certain fellow American citizens to internment camps. Will that be the policy you will urge President Biden to pursue?”
I think a shooting civil war in 2021 is inevitable. The progressives seem to be doing everything in their power to start it.
Yeah. Great. From what I have seen of protests by the right, they haven’t a fucking clue as to the problem space or the degree of difficulty as to what we are up against. I doubt a shooting war is a viable option.
Anyone with ideas on other countries as an option? I’m thinking Chile but don’t know anything about them post-Pinochet. AIUI, post US Civil War American enclaves were founded in Uruguay…or Paraguay…or Parkay? Though I think that last one was a margarine, not a country. I think.
@ Darleen: “Democrat President FDR’s follow-up move was to move certain fellow American citizens to internment camps.”
The Democrats [though not their oft violent allies Antifa and BLM] are far too refined to set up internment camps. They’ll arrange for deplorables and their ilk to be ‘sent to Coventry’ to use an old English saying. The unwashed and unwelcome [mostly white] politically incorrect common folk will simply be ostracised and, in a sense, interned in plain sight. I doubt that Democrats would insist on something so crass as making folks wear a yellow star as was mandated by another past socialist – Democrats have more class than that. Some even have huge refrigerators holding lots of boutique ice-cream.
The Capitol invasion wasn’t Kristallnacht – it was the Reichstag fire. Same level of bullshit, too. Kristallnacht already happened last summer in Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, etc.

D’awww. He/she’s one adorable cat.
I doubt a shooting war is a viable option.
I think the Bundy clan would disagree with you.
What’s happening right now is way worse than the Obama years. It’s vast overreach. The masks are off. There’s an much deeper awareness of the “they’re not after me, they’re after you – I’m just in their way” meme among the right.
Are we going to get Gettysburg and Atlanta? No; we’re going to get Swamp Fox, Guy Ffawkes and Robin of Locksley. The oppression will happen at the law enforcement level rather than militarily; I think the Democrats are still aware that too many of the nation’s armed forces would not obey an order to move against American citizens.
NTSOG:“The unwashed and unwelcome [mostly white] politically incorrect common folk will simply be ostracised and, in a sense, interned in plain sight.”
Starting already, with no-fly listing?

Yeah, well, I wouldn’t bet on that for active duty forces. The various state National Guards and Reserve forces should remember that they are citizens just as those whom “our betters” would have them suppress.
The CEVs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M728_Combat_Engineer_Vehicle) and Bradley Fighing Vehicles used in Waco, Texas, against the Branch Davidians came from active duty Fort Hood units. That happened not even a year after I left active duty myself as part of the “we won the Cold War, so you should find something else to do” draw down. (I didn’t and don’t have an issue with reducing the size of the military when it doesn’t need to be as large. Of course, the amount of money spent by Congress didn’t go down; it just went to other people.)
They can riot, burn buildings in the center of cities, attack law enforcement with fire bombs and explosives, be arrested then released within an hour and not charged – but you, you are a terrorist.
During a pandemic and an election year, they can march for political and social causes – but, unlike the local strip club, you and your march and your church are non-essential.
Their words are broadcast far and wide, acclaimed as truth, repeated by all the right people – your public speech is suppressed or declared illegal. Start your own free speech web site? They will shut you down.
Elections are held – but your vote is not counted. Who will organize the next election? Who will count the votes?
Masters of large tech companies aggrandize their friends and political allies – but under cover of law prevent your public speech, you cannot even complain out loud. Whither Parler?
Arnold Schwarzenegger has declared the incursion equivalent to Kristallnacht….
And yet expressed no worries about the BLM/Antifa riots…or the Big Tech silencing of conservatives…or much of anything else.
Yeah, well, I wouldn’t bet on that for active duty forces.
I didn’t say “all”, I said “many”. Technically you don’t have a civil war until you have military units shooting at other military units. Below that you have an armed insurrection or guerilla warfare.
The various law enforcement agencies have been thoroughly compromised by the progressives, we see that every day. Enough of the active duty military hasn’t been that they’ll stand down rather than obey Order 66 – but other units will, and when those units start shooting at each other the balloon really goes up.
I don’t think the progressive leaders are apocalyptic; they know, I think, that in an actual shooting war the outcome is not at all certain. They’ll keep the frog at a slow boil. Or try to; realistically what will happen is “some damn fool thing in the Balkans” that will light the powderkeg anyway.
Kristallnacht already happened last summer in Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, etc.
This. A thousand times this.

I do wonder what it is about keyboards that cats find so comfortable.
Our Betters Breathe Deeply – Into A Paper Bag:
Hmm. Perhaps we would all be better served if said bag were a bit more, well… airtight?
I used to half-jest that the 2020 election would be about Refounding America. I guess I was not joking but didn’t know it.
Unfortunately, the new model seems to be along the lines of North Korea. Which was another one of my unfunny jokes.
I do wonder what it is about keyboards that cats find so comfortable.
They don’t find keyboards particularly comfortable: they occupy keyboards in the same way as they’ll lie on a newspaper one’s trying to read (in the days when newspapers were a thing). They love to assert dominance, and they want your attention – lying on things you’re trying to use is a double whammy from their point of view. Remember, too, that slaves aren’t allowed personal possessions: you need to be reminded of your place in the househol-
Sorry, got to go: one of our cats is demanding to be on the other side of the door.
They love to assert dominance, and they want your attention
Agreed, and yet they seem to lie on these things even when they’re not being used. Have you noticed that?
They love to assert dominance, and they want your attention
Cats or SJWs?
Cats or SJWs?
Democrats.
They won’t miss him at all, because they’ve already picked a substitute target. Us. They hate the half of the country that voted for him with just as much fervor. Trouble will be when they find out some folks won’t tolerate that. Something moving with a lot more kinetic energy than a Twitter tweet will be coming back at them.
All in all, I’d rather be subject to the caprices of Felis catus than the impulses of the left/liberal/progressives.
I don’t think the progressive leaders are apocalyptic; they know, I think, that in an actual shooting war the outcome is not at all certain.
Again, the whistling thing. This isn’t the same world. They have demonized anyone to their right as Nazis. And that is NOT half the country. While I believe the election had significant problems. My own vote STILL shows not being counted and my GOP “Trump supporting” state senator, the only GOP pol to respond to me at all has gone dark on me. Study history. Study revolutions. These people mean to destroy us and guns are not going to help. Ask Kyle Rittenhous or George Zimmerman. Your gun is a one-time, one-use weapon. You cannot fight a war that way. And as Richard says, the military is not on our side. They take their orders from the Pentagon which is full on deep state. Wars are fought between the ears. Guns are only a means of reducing the problem space or intimidating it out of existence.
It is long past time for the right to wake the fuck up to the problem before us and address it loudly. Weapons will not do the trick and are more likely than not to make the situation worse. And stupid “occupy the capitol” events are far, far too risky for infiltration by leftist agitators or even right-wing nut jobs in cave-man garbI say this not as some sort of peace-nik, as I am mighty far from such. I say this watching what has happened, strategically, to this country, to the information media, to friends and relatives many of whom I previously thought rather “conservative” and sane. They believe what they are told to believe. Literal information to the contrary, video and transcripts of current events and court room evidence has ZERO effect on them. THIS is why they are going after the medium of free speech. They know where the battlefield now lies. They hold the upper hand with weapons and such. And they have molded the minds of many on the right to fall in line with their projected psychosis.
But yes, laugh if it makes you feel better.
