Mother’s Pride
She chose to share, and thereby impress. Pronouns, obviously.
Update, via the comments:
Given Ms Vilkomerson’s ostentatiously woke outpourings elsewhere, I think we can assume that, whether true or fabricated, said tweet was intended to both amuse and be met with approval. A bit of peer-group positioning, The key part being the modish dismissal of “white boys.” (Sort of, “See, I’ve taught my daughter to disdain whiteness and masculinity. How brave I am.”) That said tweet conveys other things, and unintended ironies, seems to have escaped Ms Vilkomerson.
As public boasts go, it’s quite a strange thing. I mean, you can imagine a proud parent announcing that their fourteen-year-old had passed a chemistry exam or reached piano grade three or something. But wanting to announce that your fourteen-year-old has internalised pretentious disdain for white people, and white men in particular, seems… obnoxiously unhinged. That this is apparently something statusful, a basis for applause, or at least in-group belonging, does not make it seem less so.
Via Rafi.
Needless to say, some of the replies are quite pithy.
Auschwitz: Just a bunch of jews waiting for the shower.

It’s almost funny. “Grassroots movements.” “Racial justice.” The needless pronouns. Brooklyn.
It – by which, I mean she – is practically a cartoon. And this, we’re assured, is the woman to help us build “healthy organisations.”
On the subject of ladies with opinions I recently enquired about restoring a much loved vintage bear made of sheepskin. The passive aggressive reply informed me that in no way would she accept repairs made from slaughtered animals.
Consider that these “white boys” had nothing to gain from fighting the fascist war machine, after all they were hardly likely to be victimised in Hitler’s fantasy world.
But they did indeed stand and fight, so that others may stand equally with them regardless of race or creed.
It would rather assume that the “others” are privileged by virtue of not having to be sacrificed unlike these white boys – but I suppose that disrupts the narrative somewhat.
And remember, this moral vacuity is aspirational. It’s how you let others know how superior you are.
Pearl Harbor: Just a bunch of white boys, getting stuff made in Japanese factories.
Fall of the Berlin Wall: Just a bunch of white men breaking stuff.
@Karl: This is fun!
A good response that I doubt she’ll ever see. She doesn’t strike me as the kind of person filled with self-doubt or to have second thoughts.

Or indeed first ones. This is a woman whose worldview was seemingly ordered wholesale and delivered in a box.
Isandlwana- an example of restorative justice for colonialist repression.
The “Terra Nova” Expedition- just a bunch of white boys getting beyond their uppity selves.
Little Big Horn- see “Isandlwana”.

It’s happening a lot.
Yes, well, now I’ve read it and also sampled the twitter thread and the comments there. My key problem with the tweeter is her inclusions of pronouns, which labels her as one of the enemy, and therefore supports the hypothesis that she was boasting about her intellectual and moral superiority over all us scumbag normal-people.
It also suggests that she knows exactly what Dunkirk – the tragic event, not the later film – was all about. What she probably doesn’t appreciate, and perhaps could not even if she tried, is the massive, resounding and history-making Strategic Victory that the Dunkirk Ecacuation was, for _Our_ forces, for (sadly now ephemeral) liberty and anti-socialism.
One might forgive her daughter, who is only young, and suffers at the hands of modern Anglosphere school-teachers, almost all of whom ought to be fired, and who ought to know better than to badmouth the civilisation that feeds, clothes and reveres them. But if daughter gets the same sort of subliminal anti-Western bias at home, then that is unforgiveable.

I’m afraid I have sadly to agree.
Trying to use html “tags” here, although I have no idea what these are or mean.

Yes, I see that now.
[ Fixes avalanche of italics. ]
I’ll just leave this here, I think.

I jest, of course. Failing to close an italics tag pales beside Mr Sherman’s spectacular and truly bewildering HTML atrocity of August 2016. We still have flashbacks.
“said tweet was intended to both amuse and be met with approval. A bit of peer-group positioning”
Which supports my contention that the reason New York is such a shitty city is that it has so many leftists and “liberals”. A truly evil collection of pathologies.
Mr Sherman’s spectacular and truly bewildering HTML atrocity of August 2016.
Laughing at how you remember the date. 😀
Meh, saw this retweeted this morning and immediately filed under ‘things that never happened’. A treelopper could count on the fingers of one hand the number of fourteen years old girls who watched that movie and absorbed it. Any fourteen year old girl who sat through it (by force most likely) could only hear blah, blah, blahdidy, blah whilst she thought about boys, eyelashes, eyebrows, boys, lipstick, leg shaving, boys, framing next selfie, in no particular order.
It tells us nothing about the daughter, but much more than we wanted to know about her narcissistic mother. I feel sorry for the teenager.
Needless to say, some of the replies are quite pithy.
Indeed, and then Che Guevara avatar chimes in.
Laughing at how you remember the date.
In hindsight, I should’ve taken a screenshot, if only for blackmail purposes. Parsing up-buggered HMTL isn’t my idea of fun, but usually I can click ‘edit’ and add the necessary backslash or whatever without any great fuss or cost to my wellbeing. But Mr Sherman’s aforementioned error, or rather, HIS ENORMOUS MOUNTAIN OF MANY OVERLAPPING, DENSELY TANGLED ERRORS, defied mortal comprehension.
I just stared at it, for quite some time, and quietly wept.

It is seared, seared! into his memory.

David Davis, maybe we could start a support group

I have had many an issue with the old htmly thingy. I found a good online tutorial after being banished to the alley…. Just last week, I
wastedspent several hours working out how to post a picture using html. If you are going to spend any length of time here – a necessary skill. Also, the ‘preview’, before you post, is your friend.
Good luck 🙂
A local teacher was suspended recently for posting a social media message to his students to the effect that censorship on social media is just as damaging to free speech as governmental censorship.
The local school board official explained that “during times like these, it is important to hold back from certain topics which might upset people.”
So far, there is no word on whether the teacher will be placed on a “No fly” list or have his bank accounts frozen.
Any fourteen year old girl who sat through it (by force most likely) could only hear blah, blah, blahdidy, blah
If only.
A friend of mine has a 17-year-old son and a 14-year-old daughter. He borrowed my Dunkirk BluRay a few months back to watch with his son (a family member was present at the evacuation). The OP’s tweet is exactly the sort of thing likely to have issued from the mouth of his daughter, who has decided she is no longer a girl, insists on being referred to by a random Japanese word, and has chopped off her waist-length hair in favour of the typical side-shaved “enby” cut.
I jest, of course. Failing to close an italics tag pales beside Mr Sherman’s spectacular and truly bewildering HTML atrocity of August 2016. We still have flashbacks.
Thanks David, let’s see if I’ve learned my second html word!
Ah….it sees I have….
Ah….it seems I have….
Well done, sir.

Heh. Try picking it out of Java servlet code, especially in the early bad old days. Especially when original servlet was written by some muddled brain marginally qualified thinker, possibly one who grew up on COBOL (and was reportedly not even good at that) and thus later went up the ladder into management. Not speaking of anyone in particular of course. Well, anyone in particular that anyone here would know.

One of my recurring frustrations was people who would write code without considering those who would have to maintain it: what was clear to them at the moment might be obscure to someone else a year later. Part of this seemed to be generic human forgetfulness, but part was an inability to put themselves into others’ shoes and adjust their practices accordingly.
I think it happened, but I think she said it to distract from the fact that she wasn’t paying attention to the movie, rather than her beliefs about the worthiness of “white boys'” lives.
Which can be just as bad, really; she may not actively attack people, but she’s happy to ignore it when they’re attacked right in front of her.
It’s the standard software development lifecycle:
Thanks to requiring automated testing, we’ve seen a revolution in software development:
Slightly off topic, I remember reading an online review of Clint Eastwood’s “Unforgiven” summarizing the movie as “killer turned pig farmer, turned killer”. I guess that’s sort of correct.
people who would write code without considering those who would have to maintain it
I have the opposite problem – here’s a single perl line I wrote:
# ########################################################################################################
# Incidentally there’s an amusing problem with trying to do something like
# grep { File::Spec->rel2abs($arg).”/” !~ /$target/ } @args;
# WILL NOT WORK because the !~ or =~ operator takes precedence over the . operator
# However you can put the entire left side in quotes. But then you must interpolate the subroutine:
grep { “${\File::Spec->rel2abs($arg)}/” !~ /$target/ } @args;
# This works because when the “${…}” is seen in the double-quoted string, it’s evaluated as a block.
# The contents of the block is a reference to the result of the rel2abs() call,
# which is then dereferenced by the structure ${ .. } and interpolated into the string.
# Anyway, where were we?…
# ########################################################################################################
Never have so many made such a virtue of their ignorance.
seems… obnoxiously unhinged.
It is. Now what? Is she ever going to read those replies and think, “Wow, what a huge mistake that was! Now that I understand their sacrifice should not be flippantly dismissed, and bringing race into it only made the sentiment more cruel and vapid.” Ha.
We keep talking like we wield SJW-level cancel powers, but doing little to nothing when our feeble protestations, yet again, fail to shame the shameless. This public statement, intended to further humiliate and denigrate the “right” kind of people, has gloriously accomplished it’s task.
I’ve enjoyed mocking the left for decades but cannot escape the gnawing feeling that I’m laughing all the way to the boxcar.
This public statement, intended to further humiliate and denigrate the “right” kind of people, has gloriously accomplished it’s task.
I don’t think it has, in this case. Often, one sees a virtue signal like this where the clapping seals all chime in and it’s one great big orgy of wokery. But occasionally you’ll see a case like this where the protesters have enough numbers to cause the mockery to float to the top, so that any passerby sees the criticism and understands that the pronouned speaker is not to be taken seriously.
It’s unfortunate that such a pile-on is necessary, but it’s nice to see the occasional wokeling cut off at the knees. And it reassures the few remaining sane people that they’re not alone.
“White boy” is a racial slur that blacks are very fond of using, as they might see it in response to adult black employees or servants being called “boy” in the old days. There are complexities and plausible deniability – bellboy, good ol’ boy, etc. But a lack of respect (whether careless or deliberate) is conveyed, like a Frenchman addressing an adult stranger by “tu”.
It’s part of the package of physical and mental postures that well brought up 14 year olds learn from rappers or from their Black Friend in school. White boys (in the literal sense of minor-aged males) imitate the package for a taste of licensed toxic masculinity in a culture that otherwise shames masculinity. White girls imitate the package because they’re conformist and like to back a cultural winner.
“White boy” is the edgy racial slur these white teenagers are allowed and encouraged to use, unlike the other racial slur that can get them Two-Minute-Hated in national media if they fail to skip every instance of it during their Tik-Tok pantomimes.

I have slowly learned, through random encounters, that many black people are stone cold racists.
I have slowly learned, through random encounters, that many black people are stone cold racists.
As Chris Rock put it, black people are more racist than white people, because not only are black people racist against white people, all of the things that racist white people don’t like about black people are things that black people really don’t like about other black people.
I don’t think blacks are on average any more or less likely to be racist. I do think that current culture has led much of the black community to believe the delusion that they are incapable of being racist, which pretty much guarantees that not only will they develop racist attitudes, they’ll be more virulent and extreme than what they’re condemning.
There was a Chrome extension (since pulled from the store) that swapped white and black terminology on web pages. So if you read a newspaper story, the blacks and whites terms would be reversed. Some wag installed it on the computers in a local school, and the TOCs (teachers of colour) went apoplectic at the stunning, visceral racism of the white people in these stories. They demanded action, marches in the streets, etc. At least until they found that they were actually reading about how blacks were treating whites, at which point the matter was dropped and forgotten.
As for the subject at hand, I think the next generation is going to be completely perplexed at how anything was ever accomplished in the past, since it seems everything is the result of all those “stunning and brave” morbidly obese black lesbians.
How come she’s letting her 14-year-old be raised by White parents?
nice to see the occasional wokeling cut off at the knees
…usually followed by a plush job offer from some NGO or government agency, or a nice gig at some lefty publisher if they write words for a living. By all means cut off their legs, but the closet full of jackboots suggest they have plenty to spare. But #pwnd #dunkedon #deboonked I guess.
“…the delusion that they are incapable of being racist, which pretty much guarantees that not only will they develop racist attitudes, they’ll be more virulent and extreme than what they’re condemning.”
Agreed. Also the fact that there are no social consequences for being openly racist.
“Stunning and brave”
If certainly would be stunned if one fell on me. Concussed, even.
I would be, not If would be. Argh.
I’d like to say we should install this on more computers, except I think we’d end up with more people who never discover the hoax than those who do.
There was a Chrome extension (since pulled from the store) that swapped white and black terminology on web pages.
One could create a web page that does this: enter a URL and it performs the reversal on whatever is on that page. Sort of a politically incorrect Google Translate.
Also the fact that there are no social consequences for [minorities] being openly racist.
If you exempt certain groups from normal proprieties and expectations of reciprocation – in the name of “equity,” no less – the results will tend to be unattractive. And remember, when bemoaning “privilege,” we mustn’t ever mention this kind of thing.
That wouldn’t do at all.
