Dogs are racist now?
So all those rappers and gangbangers calling each other “dog” were actually promoting white supremacy?
I’m confused again. Maybe it’s just me.
“Social justice” holds you responsible for the actions of others with whom you’ve never had any contact, and had no influence over. It’s the opposite of justice.
Despite the term being used frequently and ostentatiously, clear definitions are rarely volunteered. That’s the first warning sign.
As you say, “social justice” entails treating people not as individuals but as mascots and categories. And judging a person and their actions based on which Designated Victim Group they supposedly belong to and then assigning various exemptions and indulgences depending on that notional group identity and whatever presumptuous baggage can be attached to it, with varying degrees of perversity. And conversely, assigning imaginary sins and “privilege” to someone else based on whatever Designated Oppressor Group they can be said to belong to, however fatuously, and regardless of the particulars of the actual person.
Which is to say, “social justice” is largely about judging people tribally, cartoonishly, and by different and contradictory standards, based on some supposed group identity, which apparently – and conveniently – overrides all else. It’s glib, question-begging and instantly pernicious. Morality for the mediocre. As you say, viewed rationally, it’s something close to the opposite of justice. And yet, among our self-imagined betters, it’s the latest must-have.
In much the same way, “equity” – another word favoured by both educators and campus activists – is defined, if at all, only in the woolliest and most evasive of terms. And which, when used by those same educators and activists, seems to mean something like “equality of outcome regardless of inputs.” Inputs including diligence and punctuality. And that isn’t fair either.
Per local usage, I’ll just leave that there.
Somehow seems both bizarre and inevitable.
What was the original tweet?
What was the original tweet?
Goddammit. Note to self: always take screengrabs.
The tweet concerned a white woman who had adopted two black boys, one of whom had recently gone to university and been schooled in pretentious grievance and “critical race theory,” resulting in disdain for his adoptive parents, on grounds that they are white and therefore oppressors. Which, as you’d imagine, was somewhat upsetting.
What was the original tweet?
This one, I think.
This one, I think.
Thanks. Added to post.
Finally, bold action has been taken to get these weapons of terror off the street.

Clearly it needs to cut out the carbs and sugar.
Any larger and it would have been pushing furniture out of the way.
Loud SJWs are a problem, but the silence of the 93.7% of non SJW students is greater.
the silence of the 93.7% of non SJW students is greater.
Yeah, that 93.7 is some wishful thinking. Kate Smith didn’t disappear from Philadelphia because of 6.3% of the student age population wanted her to. This problem is much deeper and broader than you want to believe.
Speaking of ruining everything it touches, Kate Smith becomes an unperson for having sung a song with doubleplusungood wrongthought lyrics eighty years ago.
Also, via Ace, Wokelahoma !, the musical “reimagined” for the millennial generation with all the cliches one would expect.
Williams College, where annual tuition is $57,000.
Williams College, where annual tuition is $57,000.
For this problem, obvious solution is obvious.
Meanwhile, here in the civilized states, today is still Confederate Memorial Day and amazingly with nary a protest.

Diversity is our strength!
Diversity is our strength!
Taken at face value, “diversity” is the belief that the less we have in common, and feel we have in common, the happier we will be.
Any larger and it would have been pushing furniture out of the way.
Sumo wrestler bee.
fried chicken
Isn’t that a racist stereotype?
Deleting Kate Smith because of a song lyric from 1930 is a pretext.
The real reason is to get rid of “God Bless America”.
Mission Accomplished.
If I understand the Williams incident, the Council unanimously approved the black students’ budget request 15 minutes BEFORE the protest began. This qualifies as a win-win.
It’s like one of those fake bar fights in a low budget western movie. The bad guy anticipates the fake hit by the hero and falls back on the poker table before the blow lands.
It is so frustrating. It’s so tiring … to be here.
If I were living in a foreign city, where the food and culture and customs were different than I was accustomed to, I would feel lonely and isolated. But I would be unlikely to hate and resent the majority culture merely for not being what I was most comfortable with. Nor would I be surprised if minority requests were not accommodated as quickly due to the need to think and discuss more when dealing with the unfamiliar.
Regarding Mao-ling psychodrama, Charles Murray has a modest proposal.
Previously, and very much related.
I’ve never seen SJW ideology make an adherent a better person. Never. It’s always destructive to some degree. Always.
An illustration:
“There is no excuse for terror attacks against innocent people but [let me offer an excuse for terror attacks against innocent people whilst the victims’ blood is still wet on the floor].”
This is what the students were protesting and Charles Murray was referring to: An active member of the Polish resistance to communism speaking about resisting totalitarianism. And yet the students think they’re the heroes here. Appalling.

Well, yes. They were taught by the sixties communists that liberals allowed to infest our schools and universities…and the commies I knew back loathed anyone who resisted Mao and Stalin.
I’ve never seen SJW ideology make an adherent a better person.
I suppose it’s a kind of cheap grace, which is always popular:
Something along those lines.
And given the kinds of personalities typically attracted to such things, I doubt that being a better person was ever on the cards.

I keep falling down your rabbit holes. (It’s a long train journey so I don’t mind.)
Why does every proposal to SAVE HUMANITY!! include chains?
Professor Bostrom’s ideas are just a teensy bit scary:
Right. I’m guessing ‘1984’ is filed in the ‘practical advice & self help’ section of the professor’s bookcase.
I keep falling down your rabbit holes.
No refunds. Credit note only.
Re the displacement of personal resentment, which seems to inform so much “social justice” posturing, as illustrated upthread, this isn’t entirely unrelated.
Don’t miss your stop.
Tim Newman is in his wheelhouse again.
It is an absolute mystery why this “activist” doesn’t want mandatory psych exams prior to hormone “therapy”.
“Totes the same”, added the McGill scholar.
“If someone says, ‘My arm hurts,’ we typically grant credence to their claims.
Which is why we also accept it when people say “I’m Napoleon Bonaparte!” and put them in charge of France.
Which might actually be a good thing currently, but that’s beside the point:-).
Got a lot of responses while I was away 😀
Suffice it to say, Social Justice ruins lives FAR FAR FAR more often than it helps them. It’s just that I have seen it help them on rare occasions. I was objecting only to the ‘never’ and ‘always’. I simply believe that it’s more like 1% and 99%. Or perhaps it has a higher success rate than that, but that the nasty people are REALLY nasty, and that any good done is far outweighed by the evil done.
For example, Laci Green seems to have been made a better person by Social Justice. If you could seen some old videos of her, she was a horrible bitch. However, Social Justice ended up making her so tolerant, that the SJWs kicked her out of her club for not being intolerant of the right people. I think social justice made Laci Green a better person (if still a bit airheaded).
There’s also Dan Shive of a webcomic called El Goonish Shive. He suffers from some form of gender dysphoria (but not full on transgendered) and social justice helped him understand that part of himself. However, he shows none of the negative traits of an SJW. He still happily draws big boobed women simply because he finds them sexy. He has also shown nuance on moral issues in the rare cases he brings them up (which is not often, his comic is mostly goofy fun).
Social Justice is a poison, but every now and then, it can act as chemotherapy. The west is being ruined by social justice, and it NEEDS to stop, as sure as the witch hunts need to stop. I’m just noting that it inadvertently actually manages to do good on rare occasions.

They do bang on, the heathens. Unlike me, soul of brevity that I am.
I was objecting only to the ‘never’ and ‘always’…
No quarrel there.
I’m just noting that it inadvertently actually manages to do good on rare occasions.
Given the role of unintended consequences in all human endeavour, I’m sure it must from time to time. Not unlike spitefully shitting in the village’s only water supply and two weeks later hearing that the local child molester is among the people feeling unwell.
I exaggerate, of course. But not, I think, enormously.

“Aren’t all cyclists into BDSM, of a sort?”
Genius, Tim.
That’s right. We immediately prescribe a high dose opioid, with amputation as a backup plan in case it still ‘hurts’
The Swedish moose migration?
Are we talking about Greta Thunberg?
“If someone says, ‘My arm hurts,’ we typically grant credence to their claims.
Who is this “we”?
“When I decided that I wanted to take hormones to feminise my body, the last thing I wanted to do was to go in front of a psychologist to justify my decision,” Florence Ashley, a transfeminine bioethicist
Ah! So the opiod-addict is the one writing the paper on why medical professionals should just take his word that “my arm hurts” and hand over the drugs … cuz trust or something. Yeah, no bias here.
If a student in my class claims their arm hurts, and so they can’t write, I give them close to zero credence.
…medical professionals should just take his word that “my arm hurts” and hand over the drugs…
One would think a “bioethicist” might actually be required to study how medicine is practiced, but maybe not. Yeah, the hell with that whole history, exam, test, nonsense, waste of time and money. “Hey doc, I’m feeling my feminine side today”, “No problem, Mac, here is a bottle of estrogen for you. Next !”

I think I tend to make a distinction between someone with a leftist point of view who nevertheless tolerates other opinions, and the SJW POV, which is decidedly intolerant of other opinions – and the self-righteousness that goes with it.

I found wearing this costume very liberating.
No idea at all why this lot would be opposed to seeing a shrink, none at all.
No idea at all why this lot would be opposed to seeing a shrink, none at all.
It’s a mystery to me, too.
Seems perfectly sane to me.
This is why feminism will eventually die off… woman are biologically evolved to attract men and vice versa. There is nothing more ugly to a man than a vitriolic feminist woman in all her putridity. The article you posted about the restaurant with the male hating tax is a microcosm of this fact.
This is why feminism will eventually die off…
And be eaten by its cats?
“Aren’t all cyclists into BDSM, of a sort?”
No.
I cycle comfortably, clad conservatively, affording neither physical nor aesthetic pain to myself or others.
