Not yet, but there’s been a 50% drop in enrollment

Quick, man. Dig out the old towels, the ratty ones.

Imagine being a new arrival and peering around at the various groups and activities: “Hm, empowerment and ego-boosting, I like the sound of that. Oh wait, I’m white. I guess I’d better make-do with the session for pretentious self-pathologising.”
And someone is paying for this.
You’d think they could save time and space by scheduling the two events at the same time and in the same room…

Unless you’re white. Then they’ll say there’s something wrong with you.
Evergreen says NO to discrimination
Being woke does seem to presuppose the ability to hold wildly inconsistent and contradictory ideas. Not just the usual oversights and woolliness, but the kinds of jarring incoherence that can be seen from space. For instance, demanding “empathy” while laughing at accounts of random, unprovoked beatings, and then assaulting, from behind, a polite stranger.
I would think, a set of average melanin-challenged parents who care for their child’s well-being would wonder what sort of masochistic tendencies their offspring possesses, should Evergreen be on the short list of preferred college choices.
I don’t know why all the white people don’t just claim to be native Americans. Worked for Elizabeth Warren and she has less native blood than the average white person in America.
See: problem solved!
Of course they want discrimination. That’s what an inferiority complex does to you. How else could they keep up?

“This is decolonisation happening,” says one student, proudly. And feel the racial healing.
“This is decolonisation happening,” says one student, proudly.
Let us remember: Evergreen is a public institution. That is, it is the state. Professors are representatives of the state. There are laws, both criminal & civil, which prohibit state discrimination based upon race. There are no exceptions for “unless the recipient is white” or “unless its a really, really good teaching moment.” Further, a state actor cannot co-opt non-state actors to do what is impermissible for state actors.
Facilitating or merely allowing targeted harassment of a student because of his/her skin color arguably violates a whole basket load of those laws. It’s only a matter of time before some of these institutions are sued into oblivion.
I’d like to learn more about the whiteness skills which need unlearning.

THEY’VE ALL GONE CRAZY: Guardian reporter screams at ‘anti-Semite’ Salena Zito for causing synagogue shooting by reporting on Trump.
Though in my experience, the Guardian folks are generally fine with actual anti-semites.

I know I’m repeating myself but it cannot be said enough until this nonsense ends. WE are paying for this. WE the US taxoayers. These “loans” will never be repaid. You cannot get blood from a turnip.

Sorry but this is where you lawyers just do not get it. You can write all the laws you want. If people in the real world don’t care, you may as well be pissing up a rope. Obviously no one in Oregon cares. They will just change the meanings of the words in your laws to fit their purposes.
@WTP,
Evergreen is in Olympia, Washington BTW.
It depends on what you mean by, “if people . . . don’t care.” Certainly, one can only set the boundaries of permissible conduct, but if the person(s) harmed choose for whatever reason not to avail themselves of the remedy provided for impermissible conduct, the problem is on the victim. Still, it only takes one to prove a point. And there are organizations like FIRE itching to get involved in these sorts of fights on behalf of victims.
If you mean those who are responsible for enforcing the law, that is another problem entirely, but one which our republic has dealt with before at universities. Yes, it took the National Guard to do it, but it solved the problem.
If you mean those responsible for adjudicating these disputes, that it still a third problem, for which the executive appointment of U.S. Attorneys and (lifetime) Federal Judges is ultimately the solution.
Finally, people do care, in fact. Evergreen’s enrollment is down by half. It cannot continue to exist if it keeps bleeding students and stories like this get around. Even a presumably left of center state legislature in Washington will find it hard to justify continuing to subsidize Evergreen at the expense of the larger, flagship public universities, i.e. UW, Wazzu, etc.
WE are paying for this… These “loans” will never be repaid.
For a glimpse or two of what it is that’s being funded, and a flavour of the pathology – one might call it a kind of stupefying malevolence – you may want to take a peek at some of these, again filmed by Benjamin Boyce.
This seems apposite, from an earlier thread:
Robert Bidinotto, quoted at Samizdata.
It perhaps goes without saying that an educational institution that embraces such tactics, as both policy and ideal, will tend to attract personalities who take pleasure in inflicting psychological harm.
Quoting from WSJ:
From an Aug. 3 job posting from Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.:
Williams College invites applications for the position of Assistant Coach of Nordic Skiing for the academic year 2018-2019. . . .
Our expectation is that the successful candidate will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. We are especially interested in individuals who have experience with diverse populations who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of athletic opportunities at Williams. Candidates from under-represented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
the successful candidate will excel at working in a community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.
And there I was assuming that skiing was more to do with balance and coordination. Not how gay or brown you happen to be.

These institutions promote distinctions and difference (the ability to discriminate among people), but demand equality. Yet, were people equal, there wouldn’t be words for observable differences. They champion identity diversity, but demand viewpoint conformity.
I wonder how they get away with calling it ‘Nordic Skiing’? Doesn’t this reek of cultural appropriation? In my day it was cross country skiing.
And how do we know a community that is broadly diverse has any underrepresented groups? Are they actually recruiting Republicans?
Ah yes, Washington. The one with the Lenin statue. I get them confused. All their football teams suck as well, but I digress.

Agree that someone needs to at least give fighting a fighting chance. Unfortunately I’m on the exact opposite end of the contiguous states and thus my influence there is somewhat limited. So as I personally cannot, I ponder why no one else has. I find it very hard to believe no one else has and given my own personal experience in situations no where near as bad as this yet still approaching, I believe it comes down to an all or nothing gamble. If someone were to fight it from the inside, they would need to be all-in. No time for your own personal studies or life or such. All in. You strike at the head of the King and such.
But that said it’s not just those individuals at ESU that are being harmed. My greater point is that we tax payers are suckered for paying for it. They take our tax dollars, muddle them around with every other necessary and unnecessary vile thing in the government budget, and give it to these cretins. The National Guard is more likely to show up at your and my house demanding more money from us before they will show up a la Alabama, Arkysaws, whatever (yes, I know 101st Airborne not NG, whatevs) at these universities to fix anything. Why? Because the laws are meaningless because the words that are used to write those laws are constantly having their meanings changed thanks to political correctness, etc. See David’s first video (that would be greatly more useful were it not for the narrator’s goofy hand gestures). I thought it was absurd when Clinton claimed (or had his surrogates do so) that a BJ was not sex and even if it was the person having said “sex” was NOT the one busting nut, so to speak. Yet now having a penis and no vagina does not disqualify you from claiming to be a woman.
Apologies for my rambling. Not sure how much of that was coherent and probably came across nastier than intended but I’ve only got a short time to comment today and this is a subject that obviously I am quite irritated about.
@WTP
Perhaps we need to few this through a longer lens. The “Long March” took sixty years or so. We did not wind up here overnight. Perhaps the solution will take as long, but the system as it exists cannot be maintained. “Send your kids here to be bullied by us” is not a winning sales pitch. The decrease in Evergreen’s enrollment is evidence of that, as is a complete, yet quiet, overhaul of the curriculum at places like Mizzou. (I concede, the political demographics are perhaps more conducive to such a reversal in Missouri than in Washington.)
Second, said “Long March” was successful because much of it was hidden from taxpayer view. The new, internet based media together with social media and “Breitbart”-inspired amateur reporters make concealing this stuff infinitely more difficult. Further, the tighter the leftist tech companies attempt to squeeze producers to suppress the information, the more of it slips through their fingers.
Third, the Left has idiotically overplayed its hand. By shifting the focus to social justice and attempting to pillory random students of the wrong demographic is backfiring. They are running afoul of federal laws which contain to “only white people are racist” exceptions. Their students are woefully unprepared to do anything IRL and wind up realizing that. And they’ve attracted the Sauron-like gaze of the general public.
I analogize it to people who wind up getting caught embezzling. It’s never the first small amounts of money which do them in. Rather, with each “success,” they become ever bolder and believe their bullet proof. Eventually, they wind up getting caught when their thefts are so big they cannot be adequately hidden or explained.
I think we’re approaching that point with respect to the Education Industrial Complex. There is going to be revolution. Either that revolution will roll back the clock or the Leftists will create a dystopia where only those who express fidelity to the cause will be allowed to succeed and those who don’t will be precluded from any alternatives. The former can be accomplished under the current paradigm. The latter will necessitate an upheaval the likes of which we’ve never seen, and I include the mid 19th Century in that calculus.
My greater point is that we tax payers are suckered for paying for it. They take our tax dollars, muddle them around with every other necessary and unnecessary vile thing in the government budget, and give it to these cretins.
It seems intuitively obvious to me that the quickest and most decisive fix for this would be for federal and state legislatures to simply apply the Hungaro-Japanese model (no public funding for any institution that offers non-STEM subjects, no financial assistance for any student studying a non-STEM program). Universities that want to offer humanities and grievance studies programs can do so on a cash basis and see how far they get. I expect the Long March would reverse itself inside of five years.
@Daniel Ream
In a perfect world, i.e. one without a 14th Amendment which has swallowed up the rest of the Constitution and plenty of wealthy SJWs willing to finance litigation and activist SJW judges willing to ignore reality, your solution is perfect, with one caveat. The “Angry Studies” departments originated in English departments in ’70s and ’80s. The SJWs first took over Composition courses and used them to begin the process by requiring various “critical” texts and the readings underlying the composition assignments. (I was there studying literature and philosophy when this started.) Ultimately, they moved into the literature professorships and then into their own hydrocephalus departments, where they attracted like minds from sociology, anthropology, history etc. If you eliminate the “studies” departments, the purveyors will simply retreat to their old fortresses to start again.
I believe we are coming to a point where there will be a separation of the SJW disciplines from the rest of academia in order to preserve the hard sciences, both theoretical and applied, from the SJW contagion. A university college of arts & sciences which teaches evolutionary biology in one room cannot coexist with one which teaches that biological sex is a social construct. With the Enlightenment, schools of Divinity & Theology began to separate themselves from the rest of the university. The same must occur for the STEM to survive. We must have SJW “seminaries” and those new “seminaries” must be made to pay the taxpayer every dime in student loans which wind up in default.
Anyway, YMMV

you jest, but the Hampshire (UK) fire service motto is “Diversity is our strength”. They attended the accident that wrote off my wife’s car,and I asked them if fighting fires was also a strength, or whether they only did diversity nowadays.
Their full answer cannot, alas, be repeated on a public forum (several are acquaintances), but let me note that there was a pronounced skepticism in their responses that senior managers may not approve of.
Hampshire (UK) fire service motto is “Diversity is our strength”.
Quite what “diversity” has to do with firefighting escapes me. Why it should be deemed The Central Message To Impart is even more boggling. Yet it’s everywhere, and not altogether convincing.
It’s rather like when in local news you hear some educator or bureaucrat mouthing about how “diverse” and “inclusive” a school is, and how 52 languages are spoken there, and how this is somehow a good thing, something to emulate, and not an expensive and alienating logistical nightmare that’s often accompanied by remedial classes, low grades, dismal Ofsted rankings, and even rioting.
There’s a whiff of desperation in the telling of the lie.
how 52 languages are spoken there, and how this is somehow a good thing,
“The majority of pupils enter school unable to speak English.”
What every parent wants to hear.
Does the Williams job require any Nordic skiing chops, or are they optional if the right candidate is found (nudge, nudge, say no more)?
Williamstown MA is or was a beautiful little jewel of a college town. But it is about the farthest thing from a “diverse” community as you might imagine. I suspect times there have changed. It was inevitable after it got its first traffic light about 30 years ago.
Hampshire (UK) fire service motto is “Diversity is our strength”.
Is there political pressure to lower standards in order to hire more “diverse” firefighters? That has been happening In the States in various fields.
Is there political pressure to lower standards in order to hire more “diverse” firefighters?
I have first-hand experience of this in a county service, similar to Hampshire – mostly on-call firefighters, in other words. It is certainly true that diversity propaganda is widespread; it is also true that most firefighters pay it lip service only.
When I trained, the woman on our course found herself really struggling for strength while extending a long ladder. The instructors made her complete the task alone: I’ve no doubt they’d have scrubbed her if she’d failed.
On the other hand, if you’re a full-timer and you want to climb the greasy pole, it really is useful to be female…
climb the greasy pole
Um….
Two hours? Every Tuesday? For how many weeks? Definitely unusual, probably cruel. Isn’t that unconstitutional?

The parents will never hear it. If they do, they better keep quiet.
We have the example from few years ago of the English school girl who asked to be assigned a new study team in class because her mates spoke no English and she did not speak Urdu. She was punished for noticing the differences we are supposed to be celebrating.
Quite what “diversity” has to do with firefighting escapes me.
It escapes you because you are trapped in your male whiteness. That statement just reeks of privilege. We will all benefit from the diversity of firefighting experiences and wisdom of the other. We have to smash the oppressive patriarchal model of Western Firefighting and envision alternative universes where fire is not seen as an enemy to be fought but a wise teacher and counselor.
