Terrifying Objects
Because victimhood is currency and status, and therefore terribly competitive.
The particulars of that “interconnected nature” are, sadly, not disclosed. Instead, the word “intersectionality” is deployed as some self-explanatory justification, both for the expansion of the museum and, one assumes, the additional funding.
The Museum of Sexist Objects is, it seems, a triumph in every possible way, according to those paid to curate its wonders, and to generally look busy while nobody cares. With Ferris State history professor Tracy Busch adding that the museum “has accomplished its vision by increasing awareness of the damage that sexism causes to not only women and girls, but also to men and the LGBTQ+ community.” Though, again, specifics on these points are not articulated.
Other priorities, however, are made clear:
Objects deemed sexist and reprehensible – sorry, “artefacts of intolerance” – include a child’s ironing playset, a set of false eyelashes, a joke sign about beer being better than women, a glamour calendar featuring pneumatic ladies in minimal lingerie, a “Hillary Sucks” poster, and, bizarrely, a signed publicity photograph of Dr Condoleezza Rice.
Other morally corrupting artefacts include a Condoleezza Rice promotional bobble-head doll – “Condi 2008” – which is somehow sexist and oppressive, unlike the near-identical promotional bobble-head dolls of male politicians.
Oh, and a 1997 novelty foodstuff by the name of Pasta Boobs.
Needless to say, the corresponding novelty pasta for ladies’ hen parties – shaped as you’d imagine – was not deemed worthy of inclusion.
Readers who feel an urge to tut about such things, and to generally disapprove, can do so, thanks to the museum’s website, which can be found here.
Lol. Grift in progress.
Oh, and a 1997 novelty foodstuff by the name of Pasta Boobs.
Needless to say, the corresponding novelty pasta for ladies’ hen parties – shaped as you’d imagine – was not deemed worthy of inclusion.
Hmm. Fancy that.
Well, it does seem a little… underwhelming. Thin gruel.
And I still haven’t figured out the inclusion of the Condoleezza Rice publicity photo.
And I still haven’t figured out the inclusion of the Condoleezza Rice publicity photo.
She is conservative and served as Secretary of State for Dubya Bushitler so that makes her an Auntie Thomasina, yte adjacent, guilty of egregious misogynoir and therefore a sellout sexist to the core.
I got that from the museum brochure footnote, “Racism, Sexism, Transphobia and Me, A Third Grade Primer”, Harridan & Harpy LLC, 2022, Portland and San Francisco.
Feminism makes women stupid. The test is believing the “wage gap” if companies could get their female labor for 30 % less, why hire any men at all?
Feminism makes women stupid.
Fact Check: True.
I am still trying to figure out what the hell “Frozen” has to do with the apparently racist act of putting your own oxygen mask on in the event of a sudden decompression (time of useful consciousness at 35,000 ft around 10 seconds) being worse than futzing around trying to put it on someone “more vulnerable” and hoping you don’t all pass out.
Well, in a list of things that might encourage an unflattering view of women, the typical output of Women’s Studies departments, and so many of their occupants, would be pretty high up. Ditto Grievance Studies generally.
Regarding the pernicious, demented prattle of Robin DiAngelo, this may be worth revisiting.
A footnote to which can be found here.
The reason we are not extinct is that we are obsessed with sex, sex makes us feel good, sex keeps couples together which helps their children survive. Anything this important will also have funny aspects. To refer to women and sex is not “sexist”. Claims of “sexism” deny all this and want us to all be sexless. Classic feminism called skyscrapers phallic symbols, as if there was another way to make a tall building. Of course the same people also want open marriage and children to have sex, so don’t ask for consistency.
Well, some of the museum’s exhibits – if such they can be called – are pretty crass. There’s a lot of throwaway tat. A bit like the off-colour joke books that some people leave in their toilets, ostensibly for the benefit of visitors. But short of attempting to prohibit bad taste, I’m not sure what the practical objective is.
And if you think that you’re being oppressed by the existence of false eyelashes, Pasta Boobs, and bobble-head dolls of Condoleezza Rice, then I guess the only fix is hardcore medication.
Bobble head Rice, sexist, but this one is empowering, or something.
So…..when is some adult going to tell these boring, tiresome know-nothings, “No. This university will not support your inane twaddle because it’s entirely worthless and makes the rest of our school look like a deeply foolish place that no person interested in serious academic pursuits would want to attend.”
Because it’s about time that someone told the truth.
Feminism makes women stupid.
It’s not doing much for men, either, if David Pilgrim is any indication.
Objects deemed sexist and reprehensible – sorry, “artefacts of intolerance” – include … a set of false eyelashes
Wait – isn’t that racist? I thought large false eyelashes, long false nails, long false hair pieces were all empowering black female things? How dare this white male feminist throw shade on a black woman’s empowering gear?
Condoleeza Rice, though, is offensive to the entire left because she’s a black female conservative and we can’t be having none of that, so under the bus with her. She also worked for Bushitler before Trumphitler rehabilitated Bush, but she’s still offensive to them because reasons.
These people have too much money and really low standards.
“Museum of Sexist Objects”
Did they include military conscription notices across history, which are invariably only directed at men – stretching to the current war in Ukraine.
Another terrifying thing, a female swimmer.
Another terrifying thing
The word “dignity” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that tweet.
Female athletes, foiled again.
Pasta Penis warning:
Increases in size when cooked
Missing warning:
Do not try this at home
Increases in size when cooked
However, becomes limp.
They should rename it “The Museum of Petty Intersectional Grifts” or MoPIGs for short.
Feminism has made western civilization stupid. That test works far wider than just feminism. Most people, most “educated” people believe it to some degree.
When the governmental subventions stop.
They take attendance in college now? Most of my professors didn’t care if we came to class at all. Many likely preferred that we didn’t.
When you were in college they took education seriously. Or at least more seriously than now.
A reply to the Riley Gaines tweet:
This right here is why you cannot argue politely with these people. They are idiots. They are willfully idiots*. If you are taking them remotely seriously, they are winning. Note, I am not saying not to engage with them. You should. But don’t bring a wet noodle to a lights-out cage match. They are evil nasty people and they should be treated as such. Yes, you need to approach from the road of reason and accountability. But the minute they say something bloody idiotic, you tell them that they are an idiot. Or if you must be somewhat polite, tell them they are being an idiot. Ignore them, they win. Engage as a polite human being and they will win. The “wisdom” of Mark Twain (or whomever) is how we got here. It was the do-nothing wisdom.
*As I was telling some friends after I told one of our classmates he was an idiot, these people are worse than the traditional meaning of the words “idiot” and such because the mentally slow, God bless ’em…literally, are far better and in their context more intelligent people. If you’ve spent a little time with mentally challenged children (maybe with adults it’s different) you find that they have at least some inkling that they are intellectually slow. Not that they won’t occasionally try to get away with something or try to fool you, but they are not deluded into thinking that they are smart or even average people. The Dunning-Kruger effect doesn’t get much traction. These sort of idiots, like the twit above, have the capacity to listen to reason. They willfully, intentionally, obliviously ignore clear facts and if it fits their whim, they will invent “facts” out of nothing.
The you’re is a giveaway.
As flying tackles go, you won’t find nun better.
I’m assuming dignity translates as performative victimhood, practised neuroticism, and habitual dishonesty.
But such is the modern campus, that fiefdom of the progressive.
Another “artefact of intolerance” is a copy of a Marvel Alpha Flight comic featuring the villain Pink Pearl, whose thick layer of body fat bestows some imperviousness to blows, and is used to smother opponents.
Apparently, you’re not supposed to find monstrous obesity “unattractive,” or to regard it as having any informational content of an unflattering kind.
Related to the above.
Well she is a villain. She fights against Captain America and other…good (?) guys. Or has society gone full-evil now? The bad guys are now the true heroes?
Again, it isn’t entirely clear why visitors are expected to disapprove of the comic’s cover, which is all that they can see, and to find it sexist in particular. There’s no elaboration. (I doubt the comic is a milestone in human achievement, but still, you’d think specific evidence of wickedness would be presented.) But it seems we’re expected to just know. Or at least act as if we do.
Which seems par for the course.
Mz Busch is a bit late on the scene. I recall seeing an exhibit of sexist objects put together by Roman feminists in Pompeii. Many household items such as lamps replicating the male pudenda. Nothing more terrifying and sexist than a than a lamp rampant in every atrium.
Ah. I misunderstood. Well I disapprove because she’s a villain and she’s winning. Hopefully metallic-creature-from-the-black-lagoon performs a reversal (that’s 2 points, iirc) and pins her/them. She really does seem like a’them’.
Related to the above.
No, no it isn’t, though having your sternum cracked for your four vessel CABG or the bone saws taking off your diabetic limbs are close, but enjoy your imagined bravery standing up to the unwoke savages, you hero you.
Quite.
…performs a reversal (that’s 2 points, iirc) and pins her/them…
Can one really pin somethem so gelatinous shoulders can’t be identified?
Good point. There’s still the reversal thing. I’ll take what I can get.
Another “artefact of intolerance” is a copy of a Marvel Alpha Flight comic featuring the villain Pink Pearl, whose thick layer of body fat bestows some imperviousness to blows, and is used to smother opponents
The X-Men villain “The Blob” has been around since the 1960’s, and his thick layer of body fat bestows some imperviousness to blows, and is used to smother opponents.
Much like the “Barbie promotes unrealistic body images, also here is He-Man” meme, taking these people seriously is the first mistake. They’re mendacious sadistic sociopaths and need to be treated as such.
(as a side note: Alpha Flight was for most of its run a kind of vestigial book that Marvel kept publishing for no real reason, and the writers/artists on it routinely loaded it with in-jokes or inappropriate humour to see if they’d get called out. They never did, because no one read the book. At one point the book had Canadian writers and artists assigned to it as a bizarre, early form of woke DEI. They filled the book with every Canadian’s favourite form of humour, “things Americans don’t know about Canada”.)
(the word “humour” is doing an awful lot of heavy lifting in that last postscript.)
I suppose the inclusion of the comic book displays the aforementioned stupefying effect, which can be found throughout the museum. There are so many begged questions, unearned conclusions, and things that by implication one mustn’t consider in a remotely realistic way. The only clue I can find as to the comic’s inclusion is a sign reading,
So, by implication, finding enormously fat women unattractive is something one mustn’t do, and one mustn’t register their enormous fatness when they assert something, even if their remarkable weight, and what that implies, has logical bearing on what it is they’re saying.
But a person being monstrously obese does have informational content – it does tell you something. It’s part of the context. And what it tells you may not be flattering. Especially when the enormously fat person blames their girth, and subsequent pretensions of victimhood, on “white supremacy,” or some such horseshit. As, for instance, here.
To pretend that one shouldn’t register these things, and pretend that monstrous obesity isn’t unattractive, or commonly indicative of psychological shortcomings, is, I’d suggest, a pretty good example of learned stupidity. Much as one might infer things about someone who claims that they’re being oppressed by the existence of false eyelashes and trashy novelty pasta.
Oh, and one more thing.
The museum sign quoted above strikes me as unwittingly ironic – and an example of the scholarly standards we can expect. In that, the character they’re using as an example is, in the comics, often underestimated as a physical threat. The heroes assume she’s effectively harmless, dismiss her, and then regret it. That’s sort of her thing. Which the museum’s curators might have discovered if they’d done some very basic research. Say, by actually reading the comic whose cover they display.
feminism makes women stupid: many women believe the “women make 70cents/dollar” trope. Yet they also want to stay home with kids for 10 years, won’t commute as far or take hazardous jobs or work overtime and retire at younger ages. single urban women in their 20s make more than single urban men the same age.
Many men, way too many men, even conservative…”conservative” believe that.
Fat: it is objectively true that obesity causes problems for that person. Can they run? No. Can they climb stairs? No. Do their knees hurt? Yes. Do they get diabetes, fatty liver disease, and heart disease? Almost certainly. Now, if you don’t care about your health, then neither do I, but these things are objectively true. Your obesity also tells me you have no self-control nor any self-respect. As David said, information is provided.
As to it being sexist to not be attracted to an obese woman, sorry but sex is, in our genes, about reproduction. The signs of youth, health, and fitness are attractive. Being 400lb turns off all of those signals. Blame Darwin all you want but it is very hard to overcome our innate sexual nature.
James Lileks combines the beliefs of leftist looney thinking in today’s Bleat (scroll down to the Wednesday Review of Modern Thought):
For example:
And so on and so on.
It’s a challenge to link each thought to one of David’s posts, but eminently educational.
And yet we have been told – many times and in no uncertain terms – that erotic attraction is something to be “distributed” according to the Laws Of Woke Woo.
Yeah but they can’t run away very fast, so there’s that.
You know… I was at a wedding last week and requested the DJ to play Fat Bottom Girls. I was told the bride and groom had that on their no-no list. Now the bride has been in FB jail more often than moi and is on her third account after being banned twice. I have a…heavy…suspicion that putting that song on that list was not their idea. Or knowledge.
All engines stop! Full speed astern!
I wonder why.
Nevermind.
I’m something of a gearhead.
Back in the day about 25 years ago when my daughter was five, and my son four, my wife got me an air compressor and tools for Christmas.
Shortly thereafter, the brake fluid on one of our cars needed changing, which meant the wheels needed to come off. Just the job for the compressor and the whackawhacka wrench.
Once I had the car on jack stands, I demo’d the whackawhacka. My son was so eager for a turn he was vibrating, and achieved Nirvana when it spun the lug nut right off.
My wife, being a fully self-actualized person of the woman persuasion would have frowned mightily had I not offered our daughter a go. Her response? “No daddy, that’s boy’s work.”
This museum, in addition to all the tat, needs to add not only air tools, but nearly the entire spectrum of devices to apply torque, leverage, angry electrical pixies, etc.
And every element of a brake system, because damn few Wymynz have the first idea how they work, either.
I was at a wedding last week and requested the DJ to play Fat Bottom Girls.
I’ve assured my wife that Freddie is singing “Flat Bottom Girls.”
There’s a reason I’ve been married over 30 years.
Well, there’s so much practised unrealism, so many incoherent rules that can seemingly change at any moment – so much goddamn pretending – it’s hard to see how one might have a meaningful exchange.
Assuming one were willing to spend time on such a project.
[ Finishes compiling tomorrow’s Ephemera ahead of schedule. Savours glorious moment. ]
What do you expect from a “sadistic, misogynistic, homophobic, sometimes violent” man?
Time to cancel (checks notes) George Orwell.
OTOH, irony being pretty ironic at times, just rewrite him, “It’s not like we’re giving money to George Orwell and rewarding him for being a misogynist.” On sale today, be sure to rush to your nearest bookshop.
You know, I’m not sure Ms Newman’s gratuitous retelling of Nineteen Eighty-Four will have quite the same impact or lingering significance. Despite it elaborating on “how Julia gets goods on the black market,” and featuring “plenty of detail about Julia’s sex life,” Such as people who like to “fart after sex.”
…and featuring “plenty of detail about Julia’s sex life,” Such as people who like to “fart after sex.”
What? You don’t find that, “…ingenious, sensitive to the original, and above all witty…” let alone worth 18.99 Imperial Dollars?
I highly recommend everyone rush to your Amazon link to buy her other “…dazzling, mindbending novel in which all people with a Y chromosome mysteriously disappear from the face of the earth…”, even if it did cause, “…displeasure of many on social media, this included trans women as well as men.”
Of course causing the displeasure of “trans” women should have Newman up on the cancellation block also.
True. But ignoring these people has far worse consequences. As I’ve said before, there is a reason we have sharp words in our language. There’s a reason they are in the dictionary. This deference to decorum when dealing with people who, let’s be real, are actually idiots in the colloquial/modern sense of the word is why they are legion. Don’t take them seriously by treating them with the respect of normal political or social opposition. They should be treated with contempt. Publicly.
Regarding Newman’s novel wherein all the men vanish, I waded through the reviews, in a stunning burst of original originality never before seen in dystopian fiction, it was all a dream – sorry for the spoiler for any of you who dashed off to David’s Amazon link to purchase this
masterpieceheadpersonpiece.However there was this:
I am guessing that would be fitting for anything she wrote.
These twits are unhappy and want us all to join them. Sex is everywhere and has moved major events in world history (Trojan war for example). Being unable to accept this is…juvenile? perverse? Words fail me. Married couples are the happiest and the more sex they have the happier they are. Children of married parents are the best adjusted and do best as they grow up (by any objective measure).
Something I think worth bearing in mind amid all the racism claims is that it was no small miracle that the world escaped from being stuck in a feudal society like 1200AD Europe (or worse). It was a very unique culture and series of events that gave us the Renaissance and then the industrial revolution. It happened only and once in N. Europe. If it had not happened those people in most of the world would still be in the stone age. In spite of the Left romanticizing primitive life, it sucks.
Speaking of women in general, I see that my two year old second cousin twice removed has read 1000 books before kindergarten. There’s a certificate and everything so likely this is not all that unusual. Can you believe it?
Frankly, no.
Now if the certificate said ‘chewed’ . . .
“read 1000 books”–if I count how many times I’ve read “goodnight moon” to my grandkids, it might be 1000…
[…] insulting behaviour likely to cause a breach of the peace.
Well the Age of Reason ended with…Napoleon if historians are to be believed, so…?
Yes, I know. Not being an eidetic about these things I had to verify that we are not still within said age, according to the smart people. I was prepared to declare an end to said age but it appears I’m about 200 years too late. Yet again.
OTOH, irony being pretty ironic at times, just rewrite him, “It’s not like we’re giving money to George Orwell and rewarding him for being a misogynist.”
Let’s have versions where a secondary character is the main character and by definition is more centered and fleshed out.
If the sensualist nihilist Julia written by Orwell, or perceived by Winston (“[part of a generation] who had grown up … accepting the Party as something unalterable, like the sky, not rebelling against its authority but simply evading it, as a rabbit dodges a dog”) doesn’t pass your feminist checklist, go ahead and invent your own Julia.
If your theory is that Orwell secretly meant, or unconsciously meant, or should have meant Julia to be Julius, or the proles to be People of Color, then write your book that critics will describe as both subverting and renewing the stale pale Orwellian tradition.
But what I don’t understand is why the literary estate of an author thinks its fiduciary duty is to commission a feminist take and somehow make it canonical.
Orwell: in the novel, Julia is merely a literary device to prompt Winston to disobey. Through her he discovers his humanity, his will, his passion. It has nothing to do with feminism or patriarchy–though do note that all such totalitarian regimes are very rigidly patriarchal AND puritanical. But likely the feminist rewriter failed to understand the book at all.
Meanwhile in England’s green and pleasant land…
1) An intersectional conundrum, climate hysteria protesters vs. “asylum” seekers.
2) Higher education at its finest, the University of
HogwartsExeter will offer a degree in “Magic and Occult Science”.Of course they are.
Well of course it is, almost ripped from today’s headlines.
Does “hot” mean something else in Australia?
Genuinely curious about that.
Alexandra Ripley’s sequel to Gone with the Wind was chosen because it was ludicrous and therefore wouldn’t supplant Margaret Mitchell’s work.
there’s so much practised unrealism, so many incoherent rules
Perhaps it’s the decade of dealing with people with severe cluster B personality disorders, but the beliefs are actually quite consistent and comprehensible once you look at the person’s desired outcome. Per Lileks the obvious underlying paradigm is painted savages good, white people bad. It’s that simple.
ignoring these people has far worse consequences
Perhaps I shoud have said “taking these people at face value” instead, but ultimately if a mendacious sociopath wants to create a museum wth their own money that’s their own lookout. It’s the fact that somewhere along the line someone took them seriously enough to give them money – very likely taxpayer money – that’s the problem.
It was a very unique culture and series of events that gave us the Renaissance and then the industrial revolution
One thing that you have to realize when talking about history is that people’s popular understanding of European history is heavily coloured by the Victorians, who were, to be blunt, lying jingoistic pricks. There was no Renaissance in southern Europe because there was no Dark Age – society, culture and technology proceeded largely unhindered, and the description of the Dark Ages as a collapse of civilzation into barbarism is basically wrong.
Now, you can make a strong argument that the odd phenomenon of English kings especially being devout to the point of expending resources to bring missionaries from Rome to the island, or abdicating and entering monasteries late in their lives, played a critical part in bringing England and northern France back from the regional collapse caused by the withdrawal of the legions.
Exactly.
I was inclined to blame that on the mud, but yeah. Kinda. Sorta. The Dark Ages thing I go back and forth on. It seems like way too much of a contrivance of historians, used much too broadly, that while somewhat useful for summarizing a large part of Northern European history that isn’t all that interesting (hence the Victorian’s necessity for it) still is a useful warning against that sort of societal collapse from stupidity that happens on a much smaller, national/regional scale.
