Vote For The One With The Mental Health Problems
Canada’s interim Green Party leader, a dysmorphic woman who expects everyone else to refer to her as “he” and “they,” but also sometimes “she,” apparently at random, was recently rendered tearful and distraught by an electronic caption:
On Saturday, September 3, at a public media event kicking off the Green Party of Canada’s leadership contest, the wrong pronouns were presented beside my name in a way that I could not change myself. I acknowledge that mistakes can happen and the need to learn from them. What happened here impacted me much more than a slip of the tongue. It made me feel hurt and isolated at a moment that should have been filled with inspiration and anticipation.
You see, a captioning oversight – or if you prefer, an accidental acknowledgment of reality – is part of a “system of oppression” and therefore a basis for a grand project of social correction. One that must address the seemingly bottomless sorrows of “Black, Indigenous and racialised people and 2SLGBTQIA+ people,” and thereby prevent a fearless politician from feeling “hurt and isolated.” “I am assumed male nearly always by strangers,” says Ms Kuttner, which, frankly, seems a tad implausible. We’re also told that perceiving her as a man, not a woman, requires “effort,” an effort that is expected by Ms Kuttner – which would appear closer to the truth, if not entirely consonant with the previous claim.
In earlier interviews, Ms Kuttner made it clear – if clear is the word – that while “they/them” are generally safe bets, pronoun-wise, “There are days that she/her is accurate. There are days that he/him is accurate.” And,
I sometimes write all of them: they/them, she/her, he/him, because I don’t care.
And also,
Honestly, my relationship of my gender identity is really between me and myself, and I don’t find different pronouns very grating, so it’s perfectly fine if people say anything about me… For me in particular, I don’t really mind.
Sentiments somewhat at odds with the press release quoted above. And because complications must multiply:
There will be days where I’m not always even aware of what my gender is.
The writers of on-screen captions are doubtless taking notes.
“I don’t like when politics is focussed on identity,” says Ms Kuttner. While informing the nation, via YouTube videos, about her own list of identities, her pansexual appetites, her PTSD, her variable pronouns, and the need to “look at pretty much every piece of policy from a gender-diverse lens.”
Via Jonathan Kay.
Update:
In the comments, Das adds,
These people are engaged in a Civilisational Shit-Test.
There is, I think, an expectation of deference and indulgence – of even ludicrous claims being left unpoked – on account of belonging to a Designated Victim Group, which, among the woke, is something close to a sacred status.
Via Twitter, Ms Kuttner is still claiming that her being “misgendered” by an onscreen caption – i.e., being identified correctly, albeit unintentionally – is “oppression” and an issue of “safety.” And she frames even the merest particle of pushback – the tweet by Jonathan Kay, linked above – as evidence of her victimhood and proof of “patriarchy.” Apparently, even one slightly mocking tweet constitutes being “singled out” and “hated.” “Dealing with hate… shouldn’t be necessary,” says she.
Given Ms Kuttner’s, shall we say, sensitivity to any sign of demurral – even a single tweet – and given her willingness to frame what was essentially eye-rolling as some inexcusable act of “hate,” as if she, a mere politician, were being assailed from all sides, one does have to wonder what she would do, or try to do, if given the power of the state.
“I don’t like when politics is focussed on identity,” says Ms Kuttner.
Sure she doesn’t.
Sure she doesn’t.
I did seem to spend quite a lot of time tripping over Ms Kuttner’s contradictory claims.
I sometimes write all of them: they/them, she/her, he/him, because I don’t care.
If you don’t care, why should we?
her pansexual appetites, her PTSD, her variable pronouns,
Where’s Daniel when you need him?
2SLGBTQIA+ people
No one who says *that* should ever be taken seriously.
an accidental acknowledgment of reality
Good phrase!
If you don’t care, why should we?
Well, it’s curious how that particular issue veers from not-a-problem-at-all – “I don’t care,” “I don’t really mind” – to a brutalising outrage and a pretext for legislation, seemingly dependent on Ms Kuttner’s mood and mental health at any given time.
“I am assumed male nearly always by strangers,” says Ms Kuttner,
Computer says no.
Honestly, my relationship of my gender identity is really between me and myself,
Computer says no.
“I am assumed male nearly always by strangers,” says Ms Kuttner, which, frankly, seems a tad implausible.
Actual LOL. I denounce myself.
I denounce myself.
Well, such is the surreal, unhappy world of the dysmorphic. It’s not unlike an anorexic person’s conviction that they’re overweight and must starve themselves even more, despite being alarmingly thin.
2SLGBTQIA+
I’ve been in a very difficult graduate degree program and it looks like the perpetual offense brigade has embellished their acronym again while I was distracted. I used to know what all of the letters meant but they keep adding stuff. I’ll wait for the final version before I bother again.
Seriously? 2S?
2S?

Hmm. Beer and Tequila here, so…
Our Federal “Vert” party is a well known bag of loons. Luckily, they don’t win many seats outside of the granola crunchers on a few islands off BC and in the “pwogwessive” enclaves in the Big Smoke.
The ex. Commissar is a Yankee refugee with an inability to hold her liquor (often at inopportune times) who is trying to make a comeback. The party having just rid itself of its last leader, a black woman, who was driven out for the crime of, as far as I can tell or care, of not being ideologically pure enough. Which is only something an irrelevant “pwogwessive” party could of gotten away with.
These people are engaged in a Civilizational Shit-Test – and the only way to pass it is to confidently ignore their histrionics and carry on the job of moral leadership. If you engage at all, it must be from the frame of confident, energetic, rightful leadership and not from explaining or justifying.
If you engage at all, it must be from the frame of confident, energetic, rightful leadership and not from explaining or justifying.
This. I would add ‘confrontational’. It’s not nice, it’s not pretty, but going into such situations without a strong backbone and a desire to fight it cedes too much ground. No stomach for that? Then skip ahead to the helicopters.
Then skip ahead to the helicopters.
Sooner or later, everyone comes around to the idea of helicopters.
Where’s Daniel when you need him?
It’s always about PTSD.
2SLGBTQIA+
You’ll notice that we’ve sneaked “2S” ahead of everything else, in keeping with our particular national racial neurosis.
This UK politician identifies as a health minister. Not sure about pronouns.
To me, she looks like a 12 year old boy, mainly due to the haircut. She could look more feminine easily with a dress and long hair. With a coat and tie she looks…absurd. But if you are going to intentionally look ambiguous, it is hardly the world’s fault that we can’t tell. And the presumption that she can bully the whole world into a particular view of her (never mind that she keeps moving those goalposts) is rather grandiose.
2S is hardly something that draws any attention of bias because no one will know your inner secret identity. Likewise Q seems to be totally an interior state not represented by who you have sex with or want to marry. Again, no discrimination because no one knows (even if there were discrimination, which there isn’t). “A” is just allies, which again we do not know unless they show up at a protest. They are just trying to expand their coalition.
But if you are going to intentionally look ambiguous, it is hardly the world’s fault that we can’t tell.
Having claimed that strangers “nearly always” assume that she is male, which seems unlikely, Ms Kuttner promptly complains about the “disrespect” of strangers not pretending that they see her as a man – i.e., strangers who “make no effort” to hallucinate, or to lie. With unintended irony, this is framed as people doing “what society has taught them,” as if the people seeing not a man but a troubled woman were merely dupes of some all-pervasive conspiracy, their minds not their own. More prosaic explanations are not entertained.
And it seems to me that expecting others to do those things – to become unrealistic and pretentious, to lie about the reality right in front of their own eyes – is itself disrespectful.
There is of course room for civility and I’ve had several perfectly civil exchanges with dysmorphic or supposedly “non-binary” people. No-one got upset. On at least one occasion, I’d say we had a good chat. But treating the other person in a civilised or amiable manner is not the same thing as agreeing to jump through whatever mental hoops they care to devise. (And likewise, demanding that others become dishonest or absurd doesn’t seem very civil to me.) The people I spoke with didn’t make such demands, so far as I can recall, possibly because they guessed I wouldn’t dance on command.
. . . to lie about the reality right in front of their own eyes – is itself disrespectful.
As much as I agree with that, it’s not “just” or “merely” disrespectful, it’s manipulative, illegitimate, pathological, creepy, unreasonable, irrational, intolerant, cruel, destructive, and smacks of a cultish paganism. Like so much of what passes for modernism.
These people do not mean us well. Their ideas do not improve society. They do not improve the lives of the people they represent. They do not improve their own lives.
These people are uniformly awful, maladjusted, damaged individuals who thrive on dragging everyone around them into the dysfunctional hellscape they’ve made of their own lives.
You can not and will not make me address a man as “she” or vice-versa. You will not indoctrinate my children into your perversions.
If it isn’t apparent by now…..We, collectively – western civilization – has given these people EVERY DAMN THING they’ve wanted to this point. And nothing slakes their appetites for perversion. Instead, it fuels their demands for ever more. It will not end until we end it. So, let’s get to it.
It is unclear to me how a stranger could “make an effort” to see her as a man when they do not even know they are supposed to be jumping through a hoop or what the correct answer is. Psychic powers would seem to be required.
“A” is just allies
I thought the A was for Asexual. I’m not sure how you would be able to spot one of those either unless you knew the person. Hell, unless a person is acting in a very stereotypical or absurd fashion, most of the time you wouldn’t be able to guess any of the other letters that have to do with sexual preferences either, in that they are indistinguishable from plain old average human heterosexual. Which makes me wonder what the difference is between a plain old heterosexual not getting any, or even a socially awkward heterosexual not getting any, and an Asexual identity thingie. Why does someone’s sex life or lack thereof have to be their identity? It’s nobody’s business, frankly, and I am getting a little tired of all these alphabet people trying to shove it in everyone’s face.
It’s not unlike an anorexic person’s conviction that they’re overweight and must starve themselves even more, despite being alarmingly thin.
This, in spades. It’s exactly alike – what’s in an anorexic person’s head has the same relation to reality as what’s in the trans-whatever person’s head. And yet no one is performing gastric surgery on anorexics to affirm and validate their convictions.
Why wouldn’t gastric surgery “cure” the weight-related body dysmorphia the way “transition” surgery “cures” the sex-related body dysmorphia? If adding breast implants and cutting off a penis and testicles to make some pocket thing out of the skin makes your dysmorphia go away because now you think you look on the outside like you “feel” on the inside, why wouldn’t cutting off half your stomach make you think you can’t overeat and be fat anymore, thus making your inside feelings match your outside appearance?
it’s not “just” or “merely” disrespectful, it’s manipulative, illegitimate, pathological, creepy,
As noted before,
There are links in the original, some of which are quite instructive, perhaps a little eye-widening. And the frequency with which the dysmorphic have a history of childhood abuse, including sexual abuse, or acknowledge it as the likely cause of their condition is enough to give one pause before affirming its consequences and waving a little Pride flag.
Related, as the kids say. (language)
This UK politician identifies as a health minister. Not sure about pronouns.
I see your UK health minister with unsure pronouns and raise you a US health minister with very definite pronouns or else.

That.
…because now you think you look on the outside like you “feel” on the inside…
“Gender Confirming Surgery”, because massive scars and odd flesh tubes are a sure cure for dysmorphia of any kind. (Medical journal but could be NSFW or for the squeamish)
Hell, unless a person is acting in a very stereotypical or absurd fashion, most of the time you wouldn’t be able to guess any of the other letters…
It’s like the joke: how can you tell which one is the vegan?…they’ll tell you.
and odd flesh tubes
I’ve seen one of those in the grocer’s deli section. It’s called tube steak.
Computer lab rat: yes, I think A is asexual. As you say, how could one tell? Heterosexuals have kinks too: exhibitionism, shoe fetish, feet fetish, swingers, nudists, bondage, only dating women less than 25 (De caprio), hot for old ladies, needing the lights off, and so on. Why don’t they organize into political factions and have parades? Why don’t they get to be “special”?
“Gender Confirming Surgery”,
Somewhat related.
“Gender Confirming Surgery”, because massive scars and odd flesh tubes are a sure cure for dysmorphia of any kind. (Medical journal but could be NSFW or for the squeamish)
After actually looking at that, I would argue that the persons actively participating in the surgery, followed by those approving and funding it are far more mentally ill than the person requesting it. And the society that closes its eyes to such butchery, or tries to justify or reason with it is sick as well.
. . . the persons actively participating in the surgery, followed by those approving and funding it are far more mentally ill than the person requesting it.
Replace “mentally ill” with “morally culpable” or “guilty” of violating first principles of ethical medical practice and numerous criminal statutes, not to mention the concept of malum in se…and you’re on the right track.
Just as an example, go take a look at the original language of the Hippocratic Oath to see how far our fascinating modern world has devolved. In relevant part:
“Neither will I administer a poison to anybody when asked to do so, nor will I suggest such a course. Similarly I will not give to a woman a pessary to cause abortion. But I will keep pure and holy both my life and my art. I will not use the knife, not even, verily, on sufferers from stone, but I will give place to such as are craftsmen therein. Into whatsoever houses I enter, I will enter to help the sick, and I will abstain from all intentional wrong-doing and harm, especially from abusing the bodies of man or woman, bond or free.”
Edifying.
ccscientist on heterosexual fetishists: “Why don’t they organize into political factions and have parades? Why don’t they get to be “special”? ”
Well, the heterosexual “fetish community” (“BDSM”, collars, leather, whips & chains, etc.) has already been trying to horn in, for a while. Furries of all proclivities, too. They are already in the marches.
This made me laugh, a little: some of the alphabet soup don’t want to share their grift:
https://thecritic.co.uk/pups-furries-kinksters-have-no-place-in-pride/
Some orgies are more equal than others, etc. Monkeypox, yes, monkey furries, no.
WTP: Doctors have long had members who were indifferent to the impacts on patients. They infected (black) men with syphilis and didn’t tell them or treat them to find out what would happen back in the 60s (?). They performed way too many lobotomies. Forced sterilization was a big thing for tens of thousands of low IQ and mental patients. Gastric bypass surgery is dangerous (I know someone whose large intestine died and is on special food paste for life) and patients often don’t realize it. Abortion can lead to sterility. For a long time if someone was old and had cancer they told the family but not them.
Re Daniel 15:33,
First there was Gay-Lesbian Alliance. Then, for no reason (lol) it switched to LGB. Then LGBT….. Then the (so far only oop north) 2sLGBTQIA+ (sometimes “QQ”). It’s a handy way for folks to keep track of the priority queue.
I was expecting T to migrate leftward, but recent politics may be making that difficult.
L and T, of course, are in open declared warfare now. What’s the betting line?
From that Critic article with the lesbian complaining about the fetishists, she says, quote:
“Consent should not be assumed, we have a right not to be made bit players in another person’s public fantasy. ”
Oops.
2SLGBTQIA+ hahaha in the article against furries and fetishists, it is ignored that no one is actually in charge or owns this absurd slogan. Just like BLM got co-opted by marxists. According to the logic of 2SLGBTQIA+ it is all about sexual preference and identity, so furries should count. If anything people are more annoyed by furries than by Q or L or G people so they are more oppressed. again hahahaha
And the society that closes its eyes to such butchery, or tries to justify or reason with it is sick as well.
The surgical mutilation of people with severe PTSD is going to be the Satanic Ritual Abuse panic of this decade. With the same results: thousands of children will be destroyed, psychologically and otherwise, and none of the adults involved will ever be be prosecuted for their role in it.
Gastric bypass surgery is dangerous
An acquaintance wanted it and was huffing that they wouldn’t because she wasn’t fat enough. I pointed out that the reason for that criteria is that complications from the surgery will take 20 years off your life, so they won’t do it unless you’re so fat you’re going to die 20 years early anyway. She’s stopped huffing. Well, except when going up stairs.
I know about half a dozen divorced soccer moms who have had the surgery and every one has internal complications with their digestion and nutrition. Anemia is extremely common. The resulting skin resections leave hideous scars and an oddly proportioned body.
I’d much prefer that sort of normal person as a health minister than the mentally deranged scolds that seem to gravitate to that & similar roles (Fauci, Walensky, Levine, et al, ad nauseam).
Re Daniel 15:33
[ Thumbs through Bible fruitlessly ]
Imagine if furries tried to force everyone to “affirm” that they really are a cat and ranted that people are erasing them by not doing so. Same same.
On gatekeeping in the activist community, furries, BDSM types, etc.
I do feel a little sorry for the author of that Critic article. (I just googled around for it.) She’s not a true radical, and she’s surely a pariah now, two years later, for having some very qualified opinions on transgender-men. Of the auto-gynophile persuasion.
But if you try to drag whole categories of people into a sort of groupthink political blob, there will be some who won’t want to come along. (Our gracious host, for example.) And there will definitely be many more people who *want* to glom on in order to gain material benefits or frissons of psychodrama. That system awards the most aggressive, the most vain, and the most monomaniacal–that’s why the “T” activists were able to tumble down the gates and take over such lopsided influence in the alphabet blob.
[ Thumbs through Bible fruitlessly ]
Pst,
Probably you have the wrong bible. Here, let me help.
Book of Daniel, chapter 15, verse 33: The first shall be last, and the last shall be first, and the middle permuted artistically. And thus it shall be, as it always was, and will be forever.
Sadly, verse 34: Until shouts be heard, and long tradition abandoned, and the right order be found.
Hope that helps.
Ccscientist, so, you don’t live near San Francisco, do you?
Daniel, sheesh. You can’t write your own holy book. It just isn’t the done thing.
In case all y’all are wondering, I’m ill today, and wasting my time with all you lowlifes. By rights I should be looking at 1099s and K-1s.
Daniel, sheesh. You can’t write your own holy book. It just isn’t the done thing.
“And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, “O Lord, bless this thy hand grenade…”
You can’t write your own holy book. It just isn’t the done thing.
Worked for Joseph Smith.
Doctors have long had members who were indifferent to the impacts on patients.
The infecting men with syphilis was more a function of racism, akin to Nazi experimentation which obviously itself was horrible but in the context of such a mindset not as bad. But I would say those people were part of a mentally ill society. Yet something even in its context was kept hidden from the greater part of society. The forced sterilization is wrong but well within the limits of a society struggling to deal with a real problem. Lobotomies were an honest attempt to try to help the mentally ill. Overused, as you say, if a justifiable method at all, but in the realm of consideration. Gastric bypass, I was not aware of the consequences you describe. While I do know two people that have had it done, one was becoming considerably overweight. I thought it was a stupid treatment and an extreme action but for some people, as with lobotomies, it’s within the realm of reasonable debate. Abortion is another issue that comes down to where one believes the line is in regard to when human life begins.
All of these treatments you describe, aside from the obviously wrong syphilis thing and abortion, are treatments for people with very clear cut problems or conditions. I may not agree with all of those arguments but they are for the most part made in earnest. Cutting otherwise healthy bodies up, butchering even children and/or chemically assaulting their growth potential, in a manner that is irreversible and knowing full well that the end result will be nothing like the presumed goal requires a much greater disassociation with reality. Putting the hermaphrodite issue aside, if these butchers had the potential to come anywhere close to truly converting a sexually functional man into a sexually functional woman, or vice versa, I could see an argument here. But not only is the resulting person not who/what they expect to be coming out of surgery, but the process is quite obviously irreversible. Anyone capable of performing such surgeries should understand these things. Unless they’re mad.
As a Canadian, I’d consider voting for her. The other choices after all are more Trudeau, the NDP (socialist), and the Conservatives who are not really conservative at all.
I learned when Rob Ford was my Mayor that having a complete lunatic in charge is at least amusing. Might as well be entertained as we steam for the iceberg.
No, Daniel. To be authentically holy, your book has to be dictated by the lips of God, direct to your pen. Not “invented” like Smith’s, or an epistolary novella like that poseur, Saul of Tarsus.
But since I’m a trusting guy, if you tell me that’s how your book happened, I’ll believe you completely. It would be churlish to doubt your word.
I’ll even help launch your religion, for, say, a 10% cut? Like the Big Guy?
Do we have a deal? You write, I market? It’ll be the next Amazon, for sure! Have your people call my people.
These people are engaged in a Civilizational Shit-Test
On Twitter, Ms Kuttner is still insisting that her being “misgendered” by an onscreen caption – i.e., identified correctly, albeit unintentionally – is “oppression” and an issue of “safety.” And she frames even the merest particle of pushback – the tweet by Jonathan Kay, linked above – as evidence of her victimhood and proof of “patriarchy.” Apparently, even one slightly mocking tweet constitutes being “singled out” and “hated.” “Dealing with hate… shouldn’t be necessary,” says she.
Clearly, this is someone who should be given political power and lots of taxpayer money.
Apparently, even one slightly mocking tweet constitutes being “singled out” and “hated.” “Dealing with hate… shouldn’t be necessary,” says she.
Mockery will be banned under a Green government.
Mockery will be banned under a Green government.
Heh. Well, given Ms Kuttner’s, shall we say, sensitivity to any sign of demurral – even a single, slightly mocking tweet – and given her willingness to frame what was essentially eye-rolling as some inexcusable act of “hate,” as if she, a mere politician, were being assailed from all sides, one does have to wonder what she would do, or try to do, if given the power of the state.
I see your UK health minister with unsure pronouns
I don’t think there’s any doubt about Therese’s womanhood; she’s getting stick for being a big lass who likes a drink and a cigar, thus not “healthy” enough to be Secretary of State for Health. That the sneers come mainly from supporters of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition, many of whom would in other cases be at the forefront of denunciation of “body shaming” speaks volumes. Unlike most of her Parliamentary colleagues, she has a PhD in Chemistry, so hopefully is better equipped to recognise woo.
I just came out on social media as “3S” because I like Negronis.
And here’s yet another member of our vibrant “T” community just trying to share the love. Don’t judge, people!
https://citizenfreepress.com/breaking/transgender-freak-caught-trying-to-have-sex-with-13-year-old-girl/
I believe everyone loves having a whiny little bitch leading their government. I know I do.
her willingness to frame what was essentially eye-rolling as some inexcusable act of “hate,”
That.
That.
The whole thing is bizarre. It’s not just the narcissism of it, or the shameless dishonesty. It’s the replies from her followers, all cooing and dutifully credulous.

Daniel 15:33: Gather up your plowshares, and beat them into wind turbine blades
You can’t throw Commies off of wind turbines.
Heretic.
To paraphrase what our host has said on several occasions, there is something terribly wrong with a teacher who feels it necessary to expose their captive audience of students to sexual perversion.
And THIS quote from grooming teacher “Flint”:
Argh.
[ Sounds of tomorrow’s Ephemera being compiled. ]
And I was about to call 999.
You can’t throw Commies off of wind turbines.
But you can chain them to pedal powered generators.

My deepest condolences to my cousins across the pond. Elizabeth was a remarkable woman.
Sure you can throw commies off wind turbines. There’s even a poetic appropriateness to it.
I DID call. But I called 911, and they were not helpful. Apparently they don’t operate on the right-hand side of the pond. Lame.
My deepest condolences to my cousins across the pond. Elizabeth was a remarkable woman.
Seconded. They don’t make leaders like her anymore, to our detriment.
A good sheila, as a commenter at Insty opined.
*doffs cap in salute to our cousins across the pond*
God save the king, because he needs the help.
Sorry to hear about the Queen. Even sorrier when considering the next in line. Pity y’all can’t vote on that or something. Not that we over here should talk…
“I’ve been wondering lately why it’s so hard for so many people in the general public to trust educators about education – the thing that we studied and do every day. It’s been so long since they were in school, I’m wondering if they have extreme or outdated views about what’s happening in the classroom,” Flint said.
I am so bloody sick of these people. And many of them are friends and relatives. Conservative…”conservative” friends and relatives. Saw a story earlier today where teachers are upset that Florida is making an effort to hire people without education degrees and this is getting played as ignorance. Yet these teachers are so bloody ignorant as to how the real world works , what real world employers are looking for, and even fundamental economics. Some cannot even balance their own checkbooks.
My deepest condolences to my cousins across the pond
Hey, she’s our Queen too, although her passing will affect us even less, I suspect. The Office of the Governor-General isn’t even answering questions about what we’re going to do. We probably don’t know.
Florida is making an effort to hire people without education degrees
As someone who has to do it a fair bit to junior employees, I’ll acknowledge that teaching is a distinct skill and not a simple one to acquire. And I only have to do it to people who are highly motivated and getting paid to be there. Of course, education degrees don’t teach teaching skills so it’s a bit of a moot point. I do hope that these prospective teachers are getting some kind of six month program in classroom management and where the limits of their ability to discipline the brats are, because any scandal will be jumped on as a way to protect the guild monopoly.
Since DeSantis has proved so good at punching back, he should announce that any attempt to interfere with this program will be met with a state-level investigation into sexual abuse of students by teachers in public schools, and a sentencing law that any female teacher found guilty must be sentenced in line with other similar statutory rape cases.
I do hope that these prospective teachers are getting some kind of six month program in classroom management and where the limits of their ability to discipline the brats are, because any scandal will be jumped on as a way to protect the guild monopoly.
On one or two points I do sympathize with teachers. The complete breakdown in discipline being a big one. But many teachers, especially those we have today, are significantly responsible for this situation. Way too tolerant of the kids who create problems, trying to befriend them, get on their good side, even schmoozing them. But the worst was disciplining children who fight back under the “all violence is wrong” BS belief. The other point of sympathy is their workload. But as someone who has made considerable effort to assist teachers, either via mentoring or volunteer tutoring, only to be met with disinterest or avoidance, combined with the undeniable fact that teachers are overwhelmingly women, I get the impression that this overworked thing is more a function of the typical female martyr complex than a real issue. They do not honestly want any help and this objection to brining non-education majors into the profession is a big indicator to me. I may have mentioned here in the past that a friend/ex-coworker engineer of mine, very sharp guy, very good teacher and son of science teacher has had a hell of a time trying to break into the profession. The administrators and such keep throwing up roadblocks or fail to return messages or IMNSHO purposely obfuscate the process.
It’s absolutely guild behaviour, yes. Here in Ontario the teachers’ unions effectively own the government, so it manifests differently; there are constant demands to hire more teachers, reduce class sizes, create new junior kindergarten grades because more teachers means more union dues means more loyal footsoldiers for the lefter-wing parties.
My deepest condolences to my cousins across the pond. Elizabeth was a remarkable woman.
Mine, too.
