Tokens Of Gratitude And Esteem
With various blog-related expenses looming, annual renewals of this and that, I’m going to do something reckless and appeal to your better nature.
If you’d like to ensure this place exists a while longer and remains ad-free, there are three buttons below the fold with which to monetise any love. Debit and credit cards are accepted. If what happens here is of value, this is a chance to show it.
If one-click haste is called for, there’s a QR code in the sidebar, at which you point your phone camera, and my PayPal.Me page can be found here. There are also SubscribeStar and Ko-Fi accounts, via which love may be monetised, whether as one-off donations or monthly subscriptions. Should you be gripped by an urge to express encouragement via currency, by all means succumb.
Additionally, any Amazon UK shopping done via this link, or via the button in the sidebar, results in a small fee for your host at no extra cost to you.
Sordid business, I grant you, but it’s what keeps this place here.
For newcomers wishing to know more about what’s been going on here for nigh on twenty years, in over 3,600 posts and hundreds of thousands of comments, the Reheated series is a pretty good place to start – in particular, the end-of-year-summaries, which convey the fullest flavour of what it is we do. A sort of blog concentrate. If you like what you find there… well, there’s lots more of that.
Do take a moment to poke through the discussion threads too. The posts are intended as starting points, not full stops, and the comments are where much of the good stuff is waiting to be found. And do please join in.
As always, thanks for the support, the comments, and the company.
Consider this an open thread. Share ye links and bicker.

A phenomenon noted here more than once.
Added to my playlist. Thanks, barkeep.
As I say, I’m only halfway through, and it took me a few minutes to get into the rich, dense dialogue, the rhythm of the thing, but the quality is very high on pretty much every front. The Macbeths are currently triumphant with more murderous schemes underway. However, still to come – the fine print of the witches’ prophesy, walking forests, and men not of woman born.
It’s easy to forget just how many of the lines and turns of phrase are now just part of the language. Was also surprised by how much of the dialogue I remembered from reading it in school.
On which, more here.
You cannot tell me that if the rangers sold permits to bi game hunters to take down human poachers that there wouldn’t be plenty who would open their wallets for that privilege.

It always sounded like bullshit anyway:
From which,
Thing is, that is the default conclusion for any and everything.
Speaking of whom, if this is parody, it is brilliant, if not, perhaps deprogramming might help. “Librarianship”, WTAF?
So she chose poorly. And then chose poorly again. And then, undaunted, persisted in choosing poorly.
It would certainly cover a lot. And if you refuse to accept that a thing can imply an unfixable inequality of some kind between one group and another, on average, and also be true, the facts of the matter, then errors will accumulate. A kind of weird, twitchy madness.
Which is, I’d say, what we do in fact see.
Speaking of which, I am guessing they never heard of the gross weight rule.
The media did the meme.
Are you suffering from “emotionally based school avoidance” (EBSA)?
Fear not, we have the solution for you, and your council will pick up the tab!
“Nevertheless, she persisted”, as the feminist slogan goes.
The Chinese have been playing this game with the Philippines and other countries in the region for many years now. They want an incident, or to create a series of incidents, upon which they can form an excuse to expand their military power and presence. This isn’t an “oops” thing.
I think this dog is what they call a “pointer”. Didn’t see a collar on him. Hope he gets home ok.
Didn’t Panama give Chinese canal management the heave-ho?
Genderfaff.

China is asshole.
BTW I’m highly suspicious of this “spontaneous burst” of anti-data centers/AI … like protests in Frisco and Bernie Sanders looking even more crazed … IMHO it is the CCP creating the stampede.
From pst314:
A serious journal, being informed of this situation with respect to a published article, would withdraw the article with the blunt statement “Process and Conclusions unable to be verified”
Not too many serious journals out there, are there?
I prefer Throne of Blood but it’s a close second.
Ping!

I’ve only seen part of the Kurosawa film, years ago, so can’t really compare. But I am enjoying the otherworldly quality of the Coen film.
The opening scene with a crumpled, wretched figure with limbs all bent out of shape, picking up severed thumbs with her toes. Then she stands, dragging a cloak around her and somehow becomes an intimidating figure. The photography and physical performance do capture the uncanny.
Bless you, sir. May your bananas be in a state of optimal ripeness.
The Chinese are playing that game in the air, too.
Heh, I like this Ace quote:
We received no response…”
We’ve seen that with various climate alarmist “research”: raw data not available to anyone, or at least to anyone who is not a climate alarmist. This is a fundamental violation of scientific ethics and should put a “researcher” outside the pale, and yet I am not aware of any whose academic careers or funding have suffered.
Agreed.
Is it the hunters or the game that are bi?
Meh. Like 1984, they will only use it to be more asshoe.
Woke preachers: They’re not Christians; they’re communists, pervs, and lunatics.
Case in point: Democrat Senate candidate James Talarico’s home church.
Data centers: everyone wants their phone/computer to run instantly and they want to run chatgpt etc but they don’t want datacenters? How hard is it to connect those two dots? Tell me CCP is interfering in US politics without telling me they are interfering.
Affordability: never have so many people had such good jobs and driven such nice cars. If there is an affordability problem it is because democrat cities won’t let anyone build houses (especially NY and CA) and they have rent control but apparently those two data points are even harder to join up.
Actress Brigette Lundy-Paine declares herself “non-binary,” changes her name to Jack Haven, and grows a bad moustache. She consequently finds herself all but unemployable as an actress. As if this were an unforeseeable twist.
On the upside, she can talk softly or loudly.
Catwalk scenes.
Discourse was attempted.
Call me stuffy and old-fashioned, but it occurs to me there’s a certain unhappy irony in suddenly and needlessly assaulting someone, and then trying to assault someone else, because you want to champion abortion in front of your own child.
Today’s word, since you ask, is parenting.
Some of the unhinged behavior surrounding this topic must come from women having had at least one abortion, and then having to deal with the dissonance that comes from knowing they killed their own child even though they support abortion on the assumption that no child is involved at all.
That woman is incensed because she’s expanded the definition of abortion to include a benign event (that no one is guilty for), and if that benign event is abortion, then all of the events involved in abortion are likewise benign.
She seems to be hanging on quite precariously to her self regard in this matter. I have a tenner that says she’s aborted at least one kid, and she’s spent much of her emotional energy denying that she did anything wrong.
But she still suspects she did, so this guy has to be attacked to protect her entire world.
It does suggest baggage. And again, parenting. Setting an example, etc.
Except that we know that men and women think differently, that we have different priorities and approaches, that the difference exists across cultures and timespans, and that’s why we never quite understand each other.
Male brains have stronger connections front-to-back, which facilitates eye/hand coordination and other physical activities. Female brains have stronger connections side-to-side, which helps us with language and other activities that require cross-hemispheric cooperation.
As far as I know, nobody has looked at the brains of transwomen (who have not been taking hormones) to see if their brains have predominantly side-to-side or front-to-back connections. They’re obsessed with the corpus callosum and other physical differences, such that you could observe with the brains of corpses.
But even if there were scannable differences between male and female brains, they’re not using that criteria before diagnosing trans. It’s 100% self-reported.
Therapy in 5…4…
Heh.
I’m not sure context would help here.
Alternative caption, seen elsewhere: “When your dad says it’s up to your mom whether you can have an ice-cream from the van.”
And they say lesbian bars are disappearing . . . a mystery!
The other mystery is why a town of 18,000 is apparently packed to the gunwales by disabled, immunocompromised lesbians.
I see, so the problem is not just the be-masked lesbians.
Odd, Zionism isn’t in the “house rules“.
I’m just going to leave this here for no reason whatsoever.
Belatedly spotted this:
I didn’t realise touching people’s hearing aids was a thing that cropped up. I must mix in the wrong, doubtless less radical, circles.
On the subject of consent:
What if the disabled, immunocompromised, non-Zionist lesbian or broke homeless person is deaf and can’t lip read because of the masks? What if one falls over functionally unconscious drunk as Cooter Brown and can’t respond? Just leave her lying there?
I don’t think they have thought this through.
I’ve just remembered an arty cinema-cum-eaterie-cum-venue down the road from where we once lived. Heavily subsidised, very alternative and left-leaning. Lots of posters about issues. I’d recently joked about how the customer service in such places is often terrible, much more so than chance would allow, as if being incompetent were a credential.
Anyhow, despite this, and for reasons that now escape me, we ended up in there, hungry and in hope of food. A meal of some kind. Possibly with a beverage. We sat down, poked through the menu and ordered burgers, I think. We waited. Much time passed, perhaps forty minutes or so, with no sign of sustenance or drinks or acknowledgement.
I eventually tracked down the employee who’d taken our order, a feat in itself, and she looked at me blankly. After some prompting, I discovered that said order hadn’t been communicated to anyone who might eventually cook it.
We didn’t stay to find out exactly how much geological time would be required.
I wonder if a significantly more lesbians than heterosexuals are mask-obsessed.
Fire Island, but for lesbians?
Speaking of which,
I am no theologian, but I do believe this “reverend” doesn’t quite grasp what a church, in fact, requires.
But I’ll bet the staff knew all the rules and formulas for politically correct speech.
As others have quipped, the Church of England now resembles the Green Party at prayer. But without the prayer.
