Quizzed on her assumptions, Ms Kaplan, a “social media consultant,” says,
And so, not knowing or caring, Ms Kaplan felt entitled to smear a local business, for likes and online clout, with a pre-emptively “unfriendly review,” in which she somehow associates the selling of tacos and carrot cake with “racism, misogyny and paedophilia,” and while describing the opening of a restaurant by two white men as representing “centuries of patriarchy,” and “such a bummer.”
For those of you sturdy enough to endure more of her voice, Ms Kaplan replies to her critics here. Albeit in a rambling and immensely self-flattering manner:

Disdaining strangers, especially men, for being white, as if it were some invalidating condition, isn’t racism, you see, all appearance to the contrary. It’s “punching upwards,” and therefore virtuous, indeed heroic. It’s “speaking truth to power.” And white men as a notional group – including unsuspecting restaurant proprietors – are, it seems, in need of some punching.
Those who suggest otherwise are, and I quote, “fucking idiots.”
Readers may wish to try downing a shot of tequila every time she says “white” in a weary, sneery, but in-no-way-racist way. Inevitably, Ms Kaplan is keen to tell us how she’s “so for real.” “I definitely speak my mind,” says she.

I’ve listened to her explanation of “healthy masculinity” (with her at the center, of course) 3 times and STILL can’t figure out what she’s saying. “Shutting down” has a gender?
IMHO she’s just another “I’m gonna be a STAR!” theater kid who couldn’t stand being a one-hit wonder and moved into a “Look at me!” performance promotional every time the applause died down. Cute starlet declares being a lesbian, D-list lesbian declares gender-fluid then trans then does surgery (along with photoshoot of now boobless chest).
She can barely pass as a butch lesbian, let alone some effeminate guy, so we can wonder what’s next when she’s unemployed again. I don’t think this ends well for her.

I’m pulling for the ending where, once she has run every possible option of look-at-me grift that she can think of, she ultimately lands on the idea of de-transitioning and realizes she can grift and sue everyone who helped her do this to herself. Imagine the fireworks. Gotta hit when the irony is hot though. Before all the children who have been harmed steal the spotlight.

I call bullshit.
Attention, all citizens. Do not speculate.
She was sexually abused as a teen starlet. In her traumatized mind, being a woman (weak, passive, submissive) is why she was abused. Being a man (stronger, implacable, unmovable) means she can’t get abused again. “Healthy masculinity”, to her, means not passively going along with the abuse that was forced on her as an adolescent girl.
I’ve known a handful of FtM dysmorphics well enough for them to talk about their disorder candidly and every one of them has this exact same psychopathology.
When you stop assuming they’re doing it for attention and recognize that it is always, always, always about childhood or adolescent sexual abuse trauma it makes much more sense.

Another both-can-be-true situation. Not that an empirical example is necessary but…A good, lifelong friend of mine was abused as a child at our church by a youth leader. He was constantly acting up/acting out for attention*. Once they figured out what had happened and he got good therapy help (damned lucky there) he became a normal, successful person. Never married though and I don’t ever recall him having a girlfriend yet women, normal women (I actually know a couple, they really do exist) talk about him a lot and frequently bring up how well he’s doing.
*There were a few other boys his age at my church who were unbearably annoying in a similar manner and I often wonder what happened to them. They disappeared from our church before or around middle school age.
IMHO, not passively going along with abuse isn’t masculine or feminine, it’s about values, personal character strength, and a family/friend support system. A lot of which is beaten out of both abused girls and boys in very dysfunctional family settings or being a ‘thrown away’ kid with no family at all.
Saw tons of that at the JDAC (juvenile detention and assessment center) I worked at for four years.
Was Page a target of sexual abuse as a teen starlet? Probably, the entertainment industry attracts as many predators as it does prey. She was targeted by both males and females using whatever leverage they had. “Child stars” don’t have a great track history due to a number of factors including their own parent(s) who are more about fame than what’s best for the kid (e.g. Jazz Jennings).
HOWEVER, that doesn’t negate that at some level when dealing with adults there is a fork in the road where someone like Page makes a decision that staying in the environment that abused her is worth more than her own mental health. It’s a conscience decision to choose the casting couch over living a “normal” life without the fame, the magazine spreads and book tours.
At some point she had a real choice and she chose this.
Andrew Klavan says that they’re not naming names because the abusers are mafia-level dangerous. They wouldn’t merely make sure you never worked in this town again, they’d murder you and your whole family. Or similar.
She came out as a lesbian to stop men from pestering her. She probably only trusted women by then. But it didn’t stop the abuse, so she transitioned to stop being the girl who got raped.
You do have a point. She could have left acting and Hollywood to get rid of the threat. Her outing and transition do get her additional interviews and stuff.

Ron Howard raised his family in Connecticut. He said he wanted his kids to be as far away as possible from that place. I don’t know that he ever got abused — his parents might have protected him — but he’d be aware of the scene.
Child actors frequently go off the rails, and I have to suspect that sexual abuse drives most of it. Yes, the Cluster B stage moms, but the stage moms are pimping their kids out to begin with. Some might be amenable to getting their kid roles by allowing the kid to be used. Maybe that’s how it works most of the time.

Also, paper clay isn’t mud. It’s paper pulp mixed with glue and putty and stuff. It’s a popular material for crafting.
It air dries, so the pin (which looks better than the building) wouldn’t need to be fired to be solid.

Police have still not released the attacker’s name. Only that he has “learning disabilities” and was at the zoo on a day trip with a caretaker.
