There Was An Attempt To Buy Instant Coffee

It does, I think, capture the absurdity of where we are.
For those blissfully unfamiliar with the phenomenon above and how it came to be, broader context can be found here. Along with some telling contortions from our progressive betters.
And from which, this:
We will lock up the product, but not the thief. And utopia will surely follow.
Ms [Martha] Gill is not alone, of course. According to her Guardian colleague Owen Jones, expecting persistent shoplifters to face consequences for their actions is now among “the worst instincts of the electorate.” Because shoplifters are “traumatised,” apparently. The real victims of the drama.
At which point, a thought occurs. If repeated thieving is so high-minded and so easily excused, perhaps Ms Gill and Mr Jones would be good enough to publish their home addresses, the whereabouts of any valuables, and the times at which they’re likely to be out, or at least preoccupied or unconscious.
Or do our betters only disdain other people’s property?

Update, via the comments:
Jen quotes this, from the post linked above,
She adds, drily,
Well, it’s quite the feat to construe brazen and habitual thieves who merrily degrade the lives of those around them – the ones sexually assaulting retail staff and brandishing machetes – as somehow being the victims of the drama, the ones deserving of our empathy and indulgence, the ones who shouldn’t be punished.
While blaming the law-abiding, on whom they prey.
And while pretending not to know that the kinds of people who thieve and loot repeatedly, dozens or hundreds of times, often while visibly exulting in a sense of power, an ability to menace others, are quite likely to behave in other vividly anti-social ways. And while somehow ignoring the damning statistics of her own chosen sources.
I mean, even by the standards of the Guardian and Observer, that’s some pretty solid perversity. One might, for instance, contrast Ms Gill’s article, or that of Mr Jones, with all available statistical data, with the accounts of the victims, and with actual footage of the crimes in question – I’ve shared 666 examples to date – and then behold the utterly jarring dissonance.
As I said in an earlier thread,
And Ms Gill’s Observer article is littered with quite glaring factual and logical errors – things that a professional journalist should know and which are easily found out. And yet she somehow doesn’t know, or pretends not to know, and makes no effort whatsoever to check. Because moral perversity is, among her peers, much more statusful.
Again, a psychology worthy of study.
Consider this an open thread. Pick a subject, any subject.
Morbid curiosity led me to try the Festive Bento Turkey, your fault for serving it with the SelfRollingLintNutz©.
A very interesting thought:
Interesting comments on the Scott Adams Hitlerians vid. I would hope that most ‘on the right’ whom the commenters claim are hypocritically not supporting the free speech rights of those celebrating Charlie Kirks Murder, realize the contradiction.
What the commenters miss is this:
1/ The left’s favourite- ol’ Saul’s maxim; Make them live up to their own rules. You started this cancel culture BS.
2/ Mostly, it is not what these celebratory moron teachers are saying, it is who they are saying it to, and that is children. Do we want this pro assassination philosophy taught in schools? As well, do we want someone that bigoted caring for us in our hospitals?
No employer, especially in education, healthcare, or government, is going to continue to employ someone who likes to attend Klan rallies on his/her off-time. Whooping it up over the murder of someone because of a political disagreement is definitely in the same category.
Another thing … there’s this scrambling by the Left now that somehow it is up to conservative to “tone down the rhetoric“. *We* are the dark threats on the horizon. 4 days after Kirk’s murder and what has happened? Little more than vigils and prayer circles and memorials. No riots or burning or looting. BUT boy howdy it’s Republicans that are being the divisive ones for being upset by murder and are just poised to commit violence!
And this is classic domestic violence territory. “You forced me to beat you, woman, what with your lip! Shut up!”
“CPD said he has prior convictions for burglary, armed robbery, and armed violence.”
Very likely that “armed violence” was pleaded down from “attempted murder”.
Thread of note from Orson Scott Card.
As Glenn says, Read the Whole Thing.
Are you suggesting he should have served it with hump fat instead?
Certain people seem unable to refrain from turning a friendly little stop with a citation into being bodily tossed, handcuffed, into a paddy wagon.
Scipio Africanus, we have need of you.
In what universe?
Might be a bit hazardous for those with their heads firmly wedged.

This is probably the worst of the cackling gloaters. I’ve got a tenner that says she’s certifiably Cluster B, and another one that says psychopathy is part of it.

Umm, no, Hitler came to power a year earlier when Hindenburg appointed him Chancellor, then became dictator by bullying the Reichstag into passing the Enabling Act. He consolidated power in the NotLK by murdering 85 people* who were dangerous to him, including a substantial number of rival Nazis (Rohm, Strasser, etc.).
*Known victims; there may have been as many as 1,000.
What would Ms Gill and Mr Jones make of recent events in Chicago – to wit, smash-and-grab gangs attacking high-end retailers (Rolex, Louis Vuitton) on Michigan Avenue.
In the latter raid, the thieves rammed a pickup truck into the store front, and fled with the loot in a caravan of six vehicles. One of these collided, killing a motorist; its six occupants are now charged with felony murder.
Would Gill and Jones express sympathy for these “demonized youths”?
Oh, Canada!
Something positive out of them Canucks.

Needless to say, The Hounds Of The Autistic Internet have found her, in some detail, so I would guess that things are going to get a little bumpy for our cackling crone.

Good grief. She’s a Utah woman, living in the same county where Charlie was murdered. Her TikTok account, buffeebest, has been locked.
I suspect hubris is about to encounter nemesis.
As so often with such things, it’s worth taking a moment to ponder the thought process, the choices being made. These, lest we forget, were the glimpses of her sweet progressive soul that she chose to record and upload, to share with her peers, to win their approval.
This is her highlight reel.
The pathologies most commonly found among men are depicted frankly and fairly routinely. They’re a staple of our modern drama, literature, etc. They’re certainly not unknown. The female variants – expressions of wickedness more typical of women – somewhat less so, I think.
Why Female Psychopaths Are a Different Breed
Of the people I’ve encountered who seemed genuinely malevolent – bent on the frustration and degradation of others – I’d say a slim majority were women. In fact, the women struck me as more likely to show a certain ingenuity in that area.
Small sample, I know. But still.
Laughed, not sorry.
Laughed, not sorry.
Me too, but the kids presently in charge and their running buddies, just like our lot over here, will never deign think maybe they are doing something wrong,
Good grief. She’s a Utah woman,
One thing I have had occasion to notice, not that I was necessarily planning on it, is that the “We” like this loon are never around when ordnance is going the wrong way.
Why Female Psychopaths Are a Different Breed
You rang?
Hold one, a call on line two, (he is a female, transphobe).
The wild-eyed screeching, the bird hands, the piercings and the erratic camera motions really helped to convince me of her claim that the “crazy left” is entirely imaginary.
“You cannot see who the fuck you are,” screamed she, untroubled by irony.
As they should be.
See also this, in which a socialist podcaster named Nora Loreto claims that habitual car theft is “a victimless crime,” while untroubled by any discernible knowledge of the subject, or of readily available crime statistics, of indeed of anything generally. Say, the kinds of activities that car thieves are very often involved in, up to and including armed robbery getaways, gun trafficking, and human smuggling.
“I write books and I know things,” boasts Nora.
But of course. They are, after all, “socially friendly elements” per Marxist dogma. Victims not only of capitalism but of “white supremacy”.
Well, that’s Marxism for you: An evil philosophy invented by an evil man. Tailor-made for Cluster B’s and Dark Tetrads, for every sadist and parasite and resentful loser.
Everything she knows is wrong.

Demonic possession
On the morning of the 11th, I spent half an hour of so trawling through social-media videos by self-styled progressives – our empathy-drenched betters – who were exulting in the very public murder of someone about whom they seemed to know very little.
The dynamic struck me as competitive, as if the goal were to see who could be more perverse. Jolly dance moves; endless gloating, including messages on the Instagram account of the man’s widow; asking if the shooter was single; abusing random people via a megaphone, etc.
It all got a bit much and I felt an urge to go for a drive among agreeable scenery – and among people who aren’t visibly unhinged. Hence my subsequent comment about not wanting to spend the day canoeing through other people’s excrement.
I don’t often use religious language, not really my sphere, but the word demonic did not strike me as entirely inapt. Something decidedly pathological was becoming visible. Not least among women with weirdly enormous glasses who are employed to teach small children.
Much as the linked writer says.
See also: the Reptilian, Lizard People conspiracy theory. I don’t for a moment believe the politicians they point to are really space lizards, but I do think the conspiracy theorists are on to something: Recall Emperor Caligula, who was called a reptile by some. There are many politicians and public figures who are more than a little by reptilian in their callous and cruel ambitions. It’s always worthwhile to consult the DSM5 when studying the political class.
My apologies for getting Night of the Long Knives wrong. Hitler ONLY killed 700-1000 of his opponents and jailed 1000 (per wikipedia). But Charie Kirk was JUST LIKE THAT doncha know. Dem politicians have been cranking up hate using such language for 30 years. It is a weird logic: our opponents are literally Hitler so all of our policies are not to be questioned.
The demonstrations and memorials around the world for charlie show that people are aware that their governments are trying to stifle them.
Are there any “anti-violence workers” who are NOT violent criminals?
I was under the impression they were hired because they were violent criminals. They understand the ever-so-complex minds of violent criminals. Or perhaps they’re supposed to act as attractants, birds of a feather and all that.
Unlike Adams, I don’t have any empathy for them. We are each responsible for our decisions and our opinions. These aren’t children. If you have been misled to that degree, shame on you, not shame on the people that you listened to (though they bear their own shame for their views and actions). To excuse them in any way is to infantilize them, and they do not deserve to get off that easy.
It’s simply a reversion to pre-20th century retail. The open store is largely a 20th century invention (maybe a bit in the 19th). Previously, stores had a counter up front. You’d tell clerks what you need and they’d run back, get everything for you, bring it up front and ring it up.
You still see this format for some reason in commercial equipment parts stores and auto parts stores.
On the bright side, it will actually make for a lot of employment opportunities for young clerks and runners!
Your soul would undoubtedly benefit from making it your sphere. Charlie Kirk said the thing he would most want to be remembered for was the courage of his beliefs. He meant his religious beliefs more than his political beliefs — his Christianity informed everything Charlie did. I think the beliefs he lived his short life for are worth serious consideration.
A couple weeks before Kirk’s last appearance a Jezebel author decided to hire witches to curse him. She went to that source of all things evil, Etsy.
Oops.
Now, Jezebel is saying it was satire.
