Dating platform for Brooklyn’s hipster socialists is not entirely successful.
Ms Isser’s indignation at the thought of socialist women being romantically shunned, even by fellow socialists, was aired in December in a Twitter howling session, during which extensive use was made of exclamation marks. After much exasperated rumbling, Ms Isser concluded that the fault must lie solely with men, and that “straight men are shallow and sexist even when they’re socialists.” Thereby proving that, contrary to legend, ladies of the left are in no way high-maintenance or difficult to please.
“Our politics reflect who we are!!!!!” said she, loudly. Which is rather the problem, I think.
The Put-Upon And Marginalised Finally Get A Word In.
Come, let us peek at the Culture pages of the Guardian.
“Queer stories are so seldom told in museums,” says Jennie Grady, who has worked on the exhibition.
Regarding the aforementioned seldomness, I briefly scanned recent listings and found that the museums and galleries busily “queering” their content include the British Museum (“Desire, Love, Identity: Exploring LGBTQ Histories”), the Victoria and Albert Museum (“A Queer History of Art”), Tate Britain, Tate Kids, Queer Britain (“A riot of voices, objects, and images from the worlds of activism, art, culture, and social history”), Brighton Museum, the London Art Fair, the Glasgow Women’s Library, the Museum of Transology, the Museum of London, National Museums Liverpool, National Museums Scotland, and the National Portrait Gallery.
So seldom. So terribly seldom.
Other vigorously “queered” content can be found at New York’s Whitney Museum of American Art; the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam; and the Wellcome Collection, London, which among other things offers a “queer life-drawing workshop… focussing on queer bodies.” I have, due to space concerns – and the fear that readers may lose the will to live – omitted many more.

Or, Landscape Paintings Now Deemed Problematic, Racist.
It occurs to me that notions of racial “representation” will likely be distorted by the embrace of rather parochial progressive conceits, and by proximity to the nation’s capital, which in my lifetime has gone from a native white-majority city, over 90%, to a native white-minority one, around 35%, and which is wildly out of step with the rest of the nation. Things that are denounced as “horribly white,” or whatever the current term of disapproval is, may not seem so to people who live in, say, Chesterfield or Plymouth…
The supposedly corrective fretting starts with a dubious, arbitrary assumption – that all racial groups should be visiting the museum in some given ratio, even though they choose not to. Those doing the fretting then set about insulting the people who do visit the museum by claiming that the things they have travelled to see, and with which they may feel some affinity, may result in “dark… nationalist feelings” and other unspeakable beastliness. By liking landscape paintings, they risk moral corruption.

Well, given their very poor response times – and given that seeing a doctor or dentist with anything approaching promptness is now, for many, a Herculean project – the sight of time and resources being pissed away on “diversity” posturing and glitter-painting at Pride events is, I suspect, unlikely to win and hearts and minds.
It’s rather like how the police seem to assume that their public image is somehow enhanced by the sight of male officers camping it up at Pride events while smeared with sparkly rainbow face paint. Or a female officer nervously trying to smile while being pinned against railings and dry-humped by a large black gentleman. While her male colleagues look on, no doubt celebrating the diversity and inclusiveness of the moment.
The mismatch with what the general public would prefer to see is, shall we say, pronounced.
It doesn’t have to be due to anything personally experienced: Many on the left hate Elon Musk for ending Twitter’s systematic censorship of conservative views. That in itself is unacceptable in their eyes. Case in point my neighbor who now expresses her loathing whenever an Elon Musk company is mentioned, and Kamela Harris who says Musk is beyond the pale and should lose the “privilege” of operating Twitter as he sees fit.
Considering the behavioral tendencies of those who join “Pride” events, I hope these EMT’s don’t catch Monkey Pox and then pass it on to hapless accident victims.
LOL. There’s your problem.
“In any bureaucracy, the people devoted to the benefit of the bureaucracy itself always get in control and those dedicated to the goals that the bureaucracy is supposed to accomplish have less and less influence, and sometimes are eliminated entirely.”

[ Starts compiling Friday’s Ephemera. ]
[Slurps coffee approvingly, sets alarm clock]
Just curious, David: The Ephemera usually appear about when I’m eating dinner. Based on today’s collection, would it be prudent for me to finish eating before they appear?
Frankly . . . I think his scheme was brilliant.
A North Carolina man used artificial intelligence to create hundreds of thousands of fake songs by fake bands, then put them on streaming services where they were enjoyed by an audience of fake listeners, prosecutors said.
Penny by penny, he collected a very real $10 million, they said when they charged him with fraud.
The man, Michael Smith, 52, was accused in a federal indictment unsealed on Wednesday of stealing royalty payments from digital streaming platforms for seven years. Mr. Smith, a flesh-and-blood musician, produced A.I.-generated music and played it billions of times using bots he had programmed, according to the indictment.
[Link is a gift article from me so no paywall]
But attending Pride events does seem to be a higher priority than, say, ensuring that the ambulance arrives as promptly as possible. And if time and attention is being diverted to finding more gay employees, or brown employees, or to fatuous signalling of some fashionable piety, then that’s time and attention not spent where it could be put to more important use.
And if some old dear in Darlington is clutching her chest and struggling to breath, I very much doubt she cares about how gay or brown the paramedics will be, should they actually arrive before she expires.
Oh, I think you should definitely be eating while reading it.
What?
I see a paywall. Maybe because you stripped “decorations” from the URL when you posted it here? No worries; also covered by other publications without paywalls.
One of the more pernicious implications of the “diversity” woo – and the general feminisation that’s underway on so many fronts – is the conceit that the emergency services, even the armed forces, exist as some kind of job creation scheme for minorities – and for women who are given jobs for which they are evidently unsuitable. Say, female police officers who are utterly incapable of physically imposing lawfulness. As if the priority, the organisation’s function and overriding objective, were to achieve some arbitrary race-and-sex ratio in employment.
See also, the bewilderingly incompetent Cressida Dick, mentioned here.
Meanwhile in the socialist utopia of Venezuela, a decree of note.
Life imitates art.
Dang, that is exactly what I was going to quote.
In my experience, feminists, queer activists, and “woke” people in general, do not care about such consequences.
That went suspiciously smoothly.
Never mind, tonight’s Super Typhoon Yagi (Goat in Japanese) will shake it all about.
One of the things I find striking about such policies is the sheer wrong-headedness of them, the obliviousness and unrealism. Such that you have to wonder how anyone could think – for longer than, say, thirty seconds – that these were good ideas, as if they had no obvious practical consequences of a kind one wouldn’t care for. Say, the spectacle of female police officers being tossed around like dolls.
See also this by Niall Gooch:
Needless to say, other, less law-abiding parties have also noticed. And the damage done by the implementation of this idiocy – say, to the public’s confidence in the police – may prove irreparable.
That’s how they convinced me that they didn’t give a damn about consequences. They rejected or ignored all evidence.
A slight paraphrase:
More liberals need to “experience” violence. Repeated exposure is needed to drive home the lesson.
Meanwhile, to no one’s surprise, The Guardian encounters a mystery.
Cressida Dick, the former Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service, seemed impervious to reality. Utterly captured by a nonsense ideology, even as the predictable consequences piled up around her. As should be obvious, not least to senior police officials, a good way to minimise the likelihood of physical altercations is to look like, should there be one, you will most likely prevail.
Given that the criminal demographic is not generally known for respecting the physically unimposing, or for respecting women, the trajectory of our police force is not only wrong, but bizarrely and laughably so. And yet, Dick repeatedly banged on about how it’s vital to have women “in every role,” at “fifty percent,” because people mustn’t “see policing as primarily a male-dominated job.”
To which, one might ask… why?
And as a result, we’ve gone from the ideal of burly chaps who will apprehend lawbreakers as forcefully as necessary and send them on their way towards the nearest dungeon, to ladies in funny hats who will be terribly sensitive and empathise with our loss, while we get used to the idea that whatever wrong was done to us will most likely go unpunished.
And we’re expected to believe that this constitutes progress. Not farce.
Evil farce. Enacted by evil, malevolent people. Treat them accordingly.
Another “person of color” ambushes a police officer. The West would be far, far better off with more selective immigration policies. And more draconian deportation policies.
Or just seal them into 8x8x8 cells until they die of natural causes.
Again, the self-censorship. Why?
Heh. I kinda liked the original better but…’leftists’? A quibble.
Has it been very active in the Pacific this year? I haven’t noticed much but haven’t checked that specifically. The dog that isn’t barking is the Atlantic hurricane season. Only five named storms so far. September 10 is generally the peak and all is quiet, at least as of last night. The predictions from virtually all the prognosticators were for 20+ named storms.
Dick repeatedly banged on
@WTP
Has it been very active in the Pacific this year?
It’s been fairly quiet and most of what there’s been have affected Japan and more northern areas. The HK Observatory has promised us another 4 or 5 before the end of the season.
Yagi is currently about 300km south of Hong Kong and only affecting the more southerly parts of the territory but the brilliant /s typhoon warning system shuts down the whole of HK. So, overnight and tomorrow morning a lot of people will be asking “what typhoon?”
Actually, Dick Banged On is a pretty good band name.
Case in point: This creature will never be sane or safe to be around–at least not without heavy sedation. And who would trust crazy people to self-medicate?
I suspect that one’s a wind-up, clickbait. It looks like a cheap set.
It’s hard to tell the difference nowadays.
There’s a community note: “This is a sketch by Beverly Hills Comedy Team.”
Of course today’s satire is tomorrow’s ruthlessly enforced orthodoxy . . .
Love those community notes.
DEI hires: just like to mention that when Trump got shot, one of the SS agents, a woman of 5 ft 3 or so, in the iconic photo has her arms around trump from the front, but is DUCKING, so covers barely 4.5 ft of the front of trump–not exactly protecting him, eh?
I will prohibit DEI supporters from obtaining services from any but DEI hires.
I’m just going to leave this here, for no reason whatsoever:
Oh, there’s more. Much more.
Cressida Dick, the former Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Service,
If one encounters Cressida Dick or one even, by chance, sees Ms. Dick, does that make her a Spotted Dick?
Someone fetch Steve’s coat. I’ll bring the matches.
Someone fetch Steve’s coat. I’ll bring the matches.
I stopped wearing a coat to this establishment a long time ago.

Of course, some DEI supporters will immediately get the scorpion pit.
Forget the scorpion pit; go with the kitten torture right off.
Or torture.
Or CMOT Dibbler’s meat pies and Constable Visit’s religious tracts.
The very fabric of Scotland’s iconic landscapes is at risk.
To Hell with Scotland: We must save Switzerland’s and Italy’s spaghetti trees from Globull Warmening.
For that matter, what will happen to Antarctica’s penguins if the Brazilian rainforest is destroyed? What will happen?
Does nobody else here care about the spaghetti trees and migrating penguins? Nobody? Wake up sheeple!
Unless we’re talking spaghetti with penguin Bolognese, no.
