Let’s Do It, But In A Way That’s Less Likely To Work.
In which we turn for wisdom to the Guardian’s parenting pages.
But Can You Not See How Fascinating I Am?
A tale of vomiting, tears, and unrelenting pretension.
I suppose the drama above – all that time on the verge of vomiting – is what happens when you spend your formative years steeped in the Progressive Identity Hierarchy, in which straight white woman is somewhere near the bottom, barely above the universally disdained straight white man. Inventing some modish gender nonsense – and then publicly complaining about other, less sophisticated people failing to defer to it – may boost your social standing a little. And that does seem to be what these things are very often about.
Ferris State University’s Museum of Sexist Objects.
A Guardian contributor finds her home being burgled, cue mental convolutions.
Readers may also wish to ponder the implicit conceit that the burglars – the ones brandishing carving knives – are the real victims and should therefore be spared any meaningful consequence of their own chosen actions, their own sociopathy. Because, apparently, one should sympathise with the people breaking into one’s home and driving off with one’s stuff. In one’s own car. Perhaps these are skills only available to Guardian columnists.
Consider this an open thread. Share ye links and bicker.

You forget, I am a White woman. And we ain’t scared of a damn thing.
No. In the first case, it was a man and a woman seeing the porn left on the carpet–and the homeowner knew our proclivities did not run that way and had not been very friendly to either of us. In the second case, there were almost two dozen assorted male and female visitors in the home after a funeral. In the last cases, these were leftist women who were ostentatious in their leftism (pussy hats, even) and who were never friendly.
Fair point.
But it does seem not out of line with what Western studies seem to report.
Perhaps her expertise lies solely in digging up political interpretations of historical works of drama.

Remember that sixties song “I Am Woman Hear Me Roar”?
Yes, I’m noticing a lot more fragmentation of t’internet into silos – The Site Formerly Known as Twitter won’t let me see any replies, Substackers have started locking off more of their content behind paywalls, Locals requires membership, and YouTube is continually battling anti-ad software and aggressively pushing for you to have an account lest you constantly lose your preferences.
I won’t be registering on any of these services, which means I can’t partake in quite a lot that goes on now.
On the other hand I spend a lot less time blindly browsing absolute shit. So there’s that.

I can’t imagine why that was, as Ken becomes Barbie.
It is 5PM somewhere in the world..
Harvard’s School of Divinity hosted a “Gathering to Breathe and Heal” event on Thursday to help students grieve the resignation of disgraced former President Claudine Gay.
Ah yes, nothing says Adult Education quite like the healing of “indigeneity and operationalized love“.

The hurricanes and earthquakes this year are gonna be lit, as the kids say, all because someone got sacked.
The problems they make may be, but these are not serious people.
Assuming our civilisation survives its ongoing, quite steep decline, future historians may be bewildered by the cultivation of neuroticism as the measure of piety.
Hence my preference for the magazine model, or group blog. There is no way in hell that I am going to pay for subscriptions to one hundred different accounts.
Current insanities are a temptation to drink all day long.
But it does seem not out of line with what Western studies seem to report.
True enough, the curious thing, though, is that in 2014 the rampant trans hysteria was still in three cornered dungarees, then there is this:
Which is not every believably high, but in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
There is no crime in the Soviet Union, that is capitalist propaganda. Next…
So the stats may be applicable to those 83, drawing a larger conclusion a bit of a leap. However, because Iran pressures gays to have sex changes, one might think there may be bias in the paper.
Judge emails lawyers “see you all in prison tomorrow” but meant “in person”. (Via Blue Canary.)
A company like NBC no longer expects to be taken seriously, apparently.
Man who threw acid on woman and children is illegal immigrant from Afghanistan whose asylum application was approved in spite of multiple sex crimes. As usual, other Muslims “described him as ‘a good Muslim’ who did not drink alcohol.”
Trolling for publicity? Or really stupid enough to think this is a good idea?
They want you, they really want you. They’re just uncomfortable and awkward about how they show it.
I am suddenly not able to view anything on Instagram from just this one device unless I use TOR browser and I think I stumbled into getting a Twitter account when trying to access YouTube or something where I thought I was being forced to re-login to some pass-through link. It’s been a bit strange lately in a few other ways that are hard to describe. Stuff that used to work smoothly and normally are slowly becoming more annoying. And if I ever get my hands on the idiots in charge of the iOS specific spell-checking…
Whistling past the graveyard. If you think wherever you are is safe from this idiocy, you are not paying attention. Much like in the academic domain of “Oh, this will stop at STEM. This sort of thing will never fly at MIT”, you need to WTFU. Idiocy does not respect your imaginary boundaries.
Do not penguin.

What an overwrought, hysterical article! Who wrote that crap? Traumatized by products aimed at women, because women need them? I’m not crazy about all the pink either on “women’s” stuff, but sheesh – I don’t have a meltdown over it. These people are too fragile to survive – O Darwin where art thou? If this woman doesn’t want periods anymore because they are a monthly reminder that she’s really not a man, no matter what drugs she takes to convince herself otherwise, why doesn’t she just have a hysterectomy? She’s probably already done the double mastectomy – what’s a bit more cutting? Good grief – the whiny little twat needs to man up and grow a set. Be the man the guy in the earlier video here (why did I click that link!) says men need to be.
Not possible, however, buy a set…
Fight, fight, fight!
I couldn’t even get through the first 3 paragraphs. I’m having to remap every single word to sanity-speak and it’s just too much trouble.
Nope, just can’t do it. I’m not even sure I’ve got the translation right. It’s quite possibly a man (Is “transgender man” code for a man or a woman? I can’t even remember) who is just completely fantasising about having periods.
Another one of these.
Clue 1 for your woes: a 1 bedroom apartment in the same or similar building in the same general area usually is cheaper than a 2 bedroom apartment.
Lye.
It is.
In theory.
I’m not mad at her … I truly feel sorry because she’s young and, evidently, been betrayed by the adults who raised her without any education in the Protestant work ethic. I lay odds she never had to do chores for her allowance, got everything she wanted when she wanted and never held a part time job during high school. Indeed, “budget” doesn’t seem to be in her vocabulary at all. How did she sign a lease for $1600/mo with only $2K net income?
She looks to be 20 something, a time of peak energy and drive. At 29 y/o I had 3 girls under the age of 4 y/o, plus a dog and thank God for that energy because weekends off? HA!
I assume this means that tampons are not available in the men’s restroom? Don’t women carry them with? Oh…I see…”he” doesn’t carry a purse anymore. I guess pretending is hard when you are ignoring biology.
Meltdown over not having time after working 40 hrs: 200 yrs ago farmwork took up 12 hrs per day. Women with children at home would spin yarn in every free moment (ie, while watching the kids). People were up at dawn to milk the cows. And if you did not do these things, you might starve. Cry me a fucking river about how hard life is today. Oh, and the career path one chooses has a lot to do with how much money you have. Just FYI.
I didn’t have any problem. Both are Instagram posts. I happen to have an account, but I very rarely use it. Maybe you need one to view them. They’re amusing, but probably not worth registering for.
Much more recently, the song from Frozen:
Women nearly rioted over Justice Kavanagh and abortion rights. Men (transwomen) in women’s sports and bathroom? Too scared to say anything. All that power just vanished? Hmm.
“I am a Loon”, a play in two acts…
Act !
Act II
All the women from prior to 1960 were unavailable for comment. I guess having no eyebrows is anti-MAGA as well.
I don’t have an account, so that’s probably it.
If Canada was the endpoint of the underground railroad but Canada didn’t have any black people before 1990 what did Canada do with those who reached the endpoint?
It’s a cookbook.
Come on, seriously? Some of them returned to the US post-emancipation, the remainder had their genes swallowed up by the 99.99% white population over the next four generations.
Are people getting stupider? Or more shameless and in-your-face?
Have we really become so feminized as a culture that we can’t recognize a shit test when we see one?
Is “transgender man” code for a man or a woman? I can’t even remember
Simple rule of thumb: any adjective means “not”.
I truly feel sorry because she’s young and, evidently, been betrayed by the adults who raised her without any education in the Protestant work ethic
She’s young, pretty, white, blonde and female. She is living life on easy mode, has done her entire life, and will continue to until age or the American standard diet robs her of those qualities. Simply bemoaning her woes in public means a bevy of simps (of both sexes) will line up to bail her out of her self-inflicted problems. And she knows this.
Much more recently, the song from Frozen:
The original script for Frozen – The Snow Queen – cast Elsa as the villain, and there’s much of that DNA still lurking in the script. I pointed out back at the time that Elsa’s “power without accountability” aria is a supervillain’s anthem. That movie is several kinds of messed up and should not be shown to children.
Wrong: I knew all these people. The gay men were habitually indiscreet–one of them tended to drink too much which affected his judgement while the other had a nickname alluding to his stubborn refusal to alter his behavior to suit mainstream social norms (he and his partner both died in their thirties.) The women were all obnoxious left-wing feminists who hated conservatives so strongly that they could not behave in a civil manner.
For those without an Instagram account, that link goes to someone commenting on a video. That commenter doesn’t know the video is from 2018, and he also doesn’t know there was a followup (Youtube) soon afterwards.
LOL. That.
How did she sign a lease for $1600/mo with only $2K net income?
Good question, since many landlords won’t lease to you if the rent is more than 1/3 your income. Hell – even after I graduated and had a somewhat “real” job, $1100 for a 2-bedroom duplex was scary. I can’t imagine trying to rent at $1600/month.
I made a bit under her salary at the end of my grad student days, and I was renting a 1-bedroom shoebox for $600, but the property management company squawked about that – I had to show them my contract. And I worked all the time, but I still managed to have fun. I guess I defined fun to fit my time and budget, and it doesn’t hurt that I’m an introverted hermit who loves to read, but didn’t follow any cable shows. At the time, the local library (walking distance!) had one of the best SF/fantasy paperback sections I have ever seen.
Whichever generation raised these kids they did not do them any favors. Soft, weak, dependent people we have.
computerlabrat points out: Soft, weak, dependent people we have.
yes. When I was in high school, I realized I was not as tough as I would like to be so I started doing things to push my boundaries like hiking in woods and such. Worked construction. Even being young and stupid is a choice.
As to the girl with the $1600/mo apt: I started doing odd jobs when I was 13 and worked manufacturing at 15 (uncle shop so not illegal) then 16 at McD’s. Glad I did. It was mostly my own initiative.Too many kids have been coddled.
Side note: I seem to recall that at one time the rule of thumb for renting and mortgages was 1/4 rather than 1/3.
I am not sure what that is supposed to be for “all” black women (because you all think alike, right lady), but I might have suggestions for her.
It can’t be anything good.
Note that she is a psychiatrist at a children’s hospital in Atlanta–where presumably she is doing her part to poison culture.
