Files Of The Severely Educated
An Antifa member in Portland who was charged with felony arson and riot crimes has been revealed to be a journalism student at the University of Oregon. Alma Yesenia Raven-Guido, 19, of Beaverton, Ore., has been charged… with two counts of felony rioting, second-degree felony arson and first-degree felony criminal mischief. A serial riot arrestee, she was arrested again Tuesday night at a Black Lives Matter-Antifa riot in north Portland where the police union hall was set on fire.
Journalism, baby. Unbiased and impartial, bringing you the truth.
Upon arrest, Raven-Guido was found to be carrying multiple lighters and three plastic bottles, including one that was melted, in her backpack. She was also in possession of a crowbar and spray paint. Beyond her involvement in militant Antifa activities in the Portland-area, she has also been prominently featured in government diversity programmes. In 2019, she was part of the Beaverton Organising and Leadership Development programme, which exists to train emerging leaders of colour in Beaverton’s city government. She listed “racial justice” as one of her areas of interest in the programme’s survey.
And hence, of course, the vandalised Japanese restaurants. And the assaulted Asian-American journalists. And the Apple Store being on fire, again. And the targeting of local churches, whose meal programmes for the homeless were apparently deemed offensive.
Update, via the comments:
Ms Raven-Guido, being educated, is someone who seems to think that “racial justice” is enhanced by wrecking someone else’s neighbourhood with vandalism and fire, thereby ensuring the closure and withdrawal of local businesses and amenities – a phenomenon we’ve seen many times – and consequently reducing opportunities for employment, and degrading the quality of life for local residents, many of whom will be minorities, and whose homes were put in danger by the aforementioned fires.
It’s a lunatic conceit, and yet quite common among the severely educated.
And among those doing the educating.
Also, open thread. Share ye links and bicker.
At least she’ll finally be off the streets.
Oh.

They’re sick.
They’re sick.
As noted here many times, it helps if you think of Antifa not as a political movement but as a metastasising personality disorder, a Cluster B contagion. An attempt to dominate by deranged and spiteful egos, rendered in shattered glass and burning livelihoods. They will never be satisfied and can never be appeased, merely encouraged and emboldened by any concession, any excuse, any hesitation.
They destroy and burn and intimidate, and beat people senseless, because they enjoy it. It’s something they wish to do, and choose to do, repeatedly. It makes them feel powerful. Everything else is a pretext, a rationalisation, a lie:
For instance.

What, exactly, was the husband or father of Ava so worried about? The plane had come to a stop!

That seems to apply to Antifa’s rank and file street thugs, but I contend that it does not accurately describe the senior organizers, the funders, and the politicians and “human rights activist” who protect them. We certainly should arrest the thugs and sentence them to very long prison terms, but most of all we need to go after the organizers and the people who fund Antifa. (Although that will be very difficult to do as long as Democrats hold political office.)
Completely off topic, by the book Avenger ditching.
Came awfully close to some swimmers. If it had continued another 50 to 100 feet and a little to the left…
I contend that it does not accurately describe the senior organizers, the funders, and the politicians and “human rights activist” who protect them.
The people protecting them are worse, because they’re the successful sociopaths, the ones who present as normal and have a long term plan. They’ll stomp down on their stormtroopers when they are no longer useful, and have popular support to do so, when they’re no longer useful. I doubt the protectors and funders will ever be brought to mortal justice.
They’re sick.
No. They’re concerned citizens exercising their constitutional right to peaceful protest. You, OTOH, suggesting otherwise is an indication that you have anger issues and are likely a white supremacist. Any denial on your part is an indication/proof that it is true. Doubt me? I can find any number of psychologists and psychiatrists who would agree. And not just in leftist bastion states but in many/most conservative…”conservative” ones as well. So who’s really the sick one here?

He’s lucky the sea was that calm. That’s fairly popular surf turf. They hold (or maybe held) an annual Easter surfing contest in that area. We spent Thursday at the beach a few miles south of there and we were remarking on how good of a surf day it was. Not a surfer myself but you pick some of this stuff up by osmosis. By Friday morning it was quite calm, however.
Came awfully close to some swimmers.
This isn’t a terribly unusual thing to happen in Florida. Combination of many great beaches and weather such that there are many small aircraft pilots, etc. here. I do seem to recall maybe 20 years ago some beach goers getting hurt when an emergency landing was attempted/made on the beach. Dangerous as it is, watching planes fly down the beach is almost instinctive. For an airplane to sneak up on you you’d have to be rather oblivious or otherwise severely occupied. But it has happened.
Also note in this specific instance, everyone was paying attention to the sky because there was an air show going on. We saw the US Air Force Thunderbirds training their maneuvers as we were driving back up the beach road on Friday morning.

Was kinda hoping it would be about them finally throwing out that libturd imbecile Ruffalo.
He’s lucky the sea was that calm.
Yes. And ditching a plane is very dangerous even in the best of circumstances. Clearly a skilled pilot.
What, exactly, was the husband or father of Ava so worried about? The plane had come to a stop!
In the movies the planes always blow up, and the movies are just like real life. Always.
ditching a plane is very dangerous even in the best of circumstances.
Thinking about this further, Cocoa Beach, etc. is on a long barrier island such that there’s a much calmer brackish river, part of the Intracoastal Waterway as it’s referred to elsewhere, on the other side about a mile or so to the west. Not sure what he was doing before this but it being an airshow I’m guessing he was out of position or otherwise in a critical situation such that he had to ditch beach-side.
Because we have had here interesting discourses about throwing lightning, one has to ask, is our children learning ?
This appears to have been inspired by this.
Assume, in this case of the first individual and going for upper ranges, a height of 5’7″, and 2000 melanocytes/sq mm of skin, and average weight of a cell to be 1e-12 grams, and the entire weight of the melanocyte is the melanosomes, that works out to about 16 frogskins if you throw in other melanin in the body, $8 for wypipo with a good tan, or $1.83 for the Hibernian side of my family.

Honk!
the targeting of local churches, whose meal programmes for the homeless were apparently deemed offensive.
How many times have Leftists told us that private charity is useless and that churches only do it to brainwash the people they are feeding?
So why NOT burn down these offending institutions?

By “conservative” Siddique clearly means tight-fisted with the budget.
Junior faculty are like starlets in Hollywood. Supply greatly exceeds demand.
My brother in law once worked on a degree in astrogeophysics (thesis on modeling the Martian atmosphere.)
He and colleagues were BSing one day when someone remarked that there existed 50 good jobs in the field world-wide. And that there were 50 pre-PhD in their state alone.
He went into space systems engineering instead.
Siddique is an overgrown child.
Apologies….should have provided better context for above excerpt. I was rather surprised I was unaware of this problem. From the same link:
Siddique is an overgrown child.
The Clown Quarter does seem to function as a neoteny farm. Cultivating adolescent sentiment in people who should have outgrown it does seem to be its defining feature.
anyone see what I see here?
“Blood from female donors has a chance of causing an adverse reaction, so lets get blood from sexually active gay men instead” ?
I should note that Canada has something of a history of infecting people with HIV and Hepatitis C from transfused blood.
so lets get blood from sexually active gay men instead
Heh…not what I was thinking but another interesting point.
Where I was going with this…the article itself is from October, 2017. Before the pandemic, lockdowns, police-state-for-abundance-of-caution, etc. Yet here we have a not exactly remote possibility, an apparent actuality in fact, of men being harmed by transfusions of plasma from women, where “1 in every 5,000 recipients were affected” but “There was a bit of antagonism ( an audible gasp across an audience of hundreds of transfusion experts) towards the UK physicians” at the idea of segregating plasma by sex…because they don’t like to make changes without evidence. Because 1 in 5000 were actually being affected by something that would be very easy to moderate for. Because segregating plasma by sex might cause some sort of socio-economic impact…presumably. But maybe I’m seeing/reading this wrong. Thus my question…
colleges have “too many conservatives” on campus
In the same way that there are too many climate “deniers” seen in the mainstream news.
[‘]…Asheesh Kapur Siddique, sent out a tweet claiming that colleges have “too many conservatives” on campus.’
One conservative would be too many to Asst. Prof. Siddique.

It’s Muhammadism come again. Whatever is taken or destroyed in jihad is rightful. There are some rather telling hadiths in regards to how many of Muhammad’s followers, in his own lifetime, did not really even themselves believe in his alleged prophethood. His grasping nature merely gave them opportunites and license to grasp for themselves.

Sure can. A while ago I mentioned some of the aircraft that NASA Ames in Mountain View used to fly – among them a little thing called the YO-3. Basically a cross between a light general aviation plane and a sailplane, it had a specially built engine, a belt-drive reducer to the prop, and a specially carved low-rpm wooden prop. All to achieve ultraquiet flight. Ames used it as a microphone platform to listen to helicopter rotor noise. They used to fly it right over my house, very low (less than 50 feet, yeah, not legal, but I’m sure the statute of limitations has run). I don’t think I ever heard it coming. There’d just be this sudden shadow sweeping by.

But maybe I’m seeing/reading this wrong.
I don’t know about the UK, but in Canada the blood supply has become very highly politicized, because of the undeniable fact that sexually active gay men make very risky donors. Sensible restrictions on donations from that demographic have been aggressively targeted for decades because activists don’t like the hatefact that STDs are much more prevalent in it.
In short, unambiguous evidence of higher risk blood transfusions has been ignored because of “homophobia” and “stereotypes”. Much like an audience of hematologists having an attack of the vapours because of unambiguous evidence of higher risk blood transfusions from female donors.
The blood’s got electrolytes, after all. It’s what transfusions crave.
Sensible restrictions on donations from that demographic [gay men] have been aggressively targeted for decades because activists don’t like the hatefact that STDs are much more prevalent in it
I occasionally see articles and indignant blog comments saying that there should be no such restrictions because testing of donated blood eliminates all risk–just as it should not be a felony to knowingly infect someone with HIV because there are new drugs which supposedly make it no longer a guaranteed death sentence.
My inner cynic says it’s due to cognitive dissonance generated by certain allegedly medical institutions caving to the transwomen-are-women absurdity. Anything that even hints at refuting that generates a lot of pearl-clutching.
Very interesting, though. I donate platelets every couple of weeks, and questions about my number of pregnancies are in both the initial questionnaire and the in-person interview. I’d always kind of wondered about that, but vaguely figured it had to do with the Rhesus reaction thing. So, apparently I was sort-of right.
I was previously unaware of this affirmative action success story.
an audible gasp across an audience of hundreds of transfusion experts
The possibility that the blood of certain protected social categories might be inferior for the purposes of transfusions is just another example of our universe’s many hate-facts that offend against the cultish beliefs of the wokerati.
I was previously unaware of this affirmative action success story.
Sidney Poitier was unavailable for the screen adaptation.
I was previously unaware of this affirmative action success story.
Ah yes, I remember reading about that, the med school “success story” that killed his patients through incompetence and callousness:
…Senator Edward Kennedy vigorously defended racial preferences in a statement to the Senate Labor and Human Resources Committee… “Dr. Bernard Chavis is a perfect example… He is the supposedly less qualified African-American student who allegedly ‘displaced’ Allen Bakke at the University of California-Davis and triggered the landmark case. Today, Dr. Chavis is a successful ob-gyn in central Los Angeles, serving a disadvantaged community and making a difference in the lives of scores of poor families.”
When his gross incompetence was revealed, liberals suddenly decided that Chavis was not the affirmative action student who ‘displayed’ Allen Bakke. In other words, the “that was not real socialism” defense.
If I were king, I would require that those who demand “affirmative action” would get all their medical care only from affirmative action students. Likewise for all other services and products.
If I were king, I would require that those who demand “affirmative action” would get all their medical care only from affirmative action students. Likewise for all other services and products.
Makes perfect sense. Why waste such superb medical care on racists?
Housemates in grad school were law students. To make a long story short, we can only hope that the affirmative action law students became public defenders.
I donate platelets every couple of weeks, and questions about …
As a fairly regular blood donor over the last 30 years or so it has been interesting to watch how the questions changed and are worded. Before the Clinton-Lewinsky thing, it seemed like everyone knew what ‘having sex’ meant. Afterwards, the question had to go into specific detail explicitly stating all the parts that could bump into all the other parts that would constitute ‘sex’. Then maybe 20 years ago or so, they added the “I’m a male” option to (what was then) the obviously understood pregnancy and other female-only questions. Just a few years ago, what with the tranny revultion, they’re back to asking men…or “men” if they’re pregnant.
require that those who demand “affirmative action” would get all their medical care only from affirmative action students
No system can survive when the people who make decisions about that system are shielded from any consequences of those decisions. This was the rationale behind Microsoft’s “eat your ow dog food” policy in the 1990’s, when developers were required to use the products they were developing. Bugs, annoying UX elements, and incomplete features are much more likely to get fixed if the people who are capable of fixing them have to deal with them every day.
I’m not sure if there’s any way to elegantly write a law that requires legislators to be bound by their laws, but requiring all legislators’ children to attend public schools and and all legislators to have public health insurance would suffice for a start.
…requiring all legislators’ children to attend public schools and and all legislators to have public health insurance…
I have always thought that requiring municipal officials to travel by public transit for all purposes would be a useful start. I suppose we could allow them to walk, or take a bike instead – although there is a recent case where Pete Buttplug (I can’t be bothered to look up his actual name) was driven in an SUV until he got a bike out a couple of blocks from his office and then “rode to work” to show his environmental credentials.
They’re sick.

I wonder how her professors would react if their homes were burned, if they were beaten, if they were terrorized with threats of horrible murder. Would they still talk about “justice”? /rhetorical question
Liberals allowed these monsters to infiltrate and seize control of our schools and universities. Liberals have a lot to answer for.
Leftists. Leftists like monsters. They help them keep their hands clean.
I wonder how her professors would react if their homes were burned, if they were beaten, if they were terrorized with threats of horrible murder.
I don’t think they’d ever get to find out – the Mao-lings haven’t ventured that far yet, have they? They did go after the gay mayor, with no repercussions, which I thought odd. I guess as long as you profess to the “right” cause, you are immune to prosecution, no matter how much actual real life damage you do. But cause a ruckus and do a little damage in the Houses of the Holy, for the “wrong” cause, and they will throw the book at you, lock you up and take everything you have. And smear you in the media to make sure that no one can support you either, through online channels, anyways. No consequences for one group, extreme, severe consequences for another. All equal under the law my ass.
Sorry. I’m in a bad place these days. The very people in government at the moment – Heels Up Harris for one – support and bail out these people David describes in the OP. And they go out a burn loot and destroy again and again. And other people, who support the “wrong” things, do something similar, but with far less damage, are prosecuted with every bit of force the government can throw at them. And smeared in the media and by corporations in the media, and assholes like George Will call them “primitives” in passing as they throw gratuitous insults into an article not even about Jan 6. Yet not a peep about feral primitives burning and looting at the drop of a hat in cities around the country. Those are what – noble savages? Heroes?

Not a professor, just an idiot.
The objects of their destruction are symbols of evil capitalism. Once capitalism is destroyed, how do they plan on re-building? Who do they think is going to do the re-building? These people couldn’t run a lemonade stand.
Sorry. I’m in a bad place these days.
You’re not the only one. My province just went full Stalin, and the “different legal regime for protected groups” thing has been fact here for quite some time.
Canada is a lost cause, but I’ve upped my stake on the “shooting civil war in the US by December” bet.

During the AIDS epidemic beginnings, you were a hater if you suggested that perhaps aids infected people should not work in restaurants or nursing–as if those were the only professions of gay men. Same with hepatitis. Better dead than rude. It turned out that the risk from casual contact was/is low, but at the time we did not know that.
Antifa types have just discovered the awful truths about life: society is flawed, humans are flawed, no one cares about them, and they have no purpose. They are uniformly without religion or beliefs. Wall Street was bombed by an anarchist in the 1920s and they were abundant in the 60s, placing hundreds of bombs especially in CA. Black lives don’t in fact matter to them, it is just about destroying the unfairness they have “discovered”. Any excuse will do. They are anti-faith, anti-goodness, thus attacking churches and even statues of a moose.
Antifa types have just discovered the awful truths about life: society is flawed, humans are flawed, no one cares about them, and they have no purpose.
This reminds me of a comment made by (I think) Christina Hoff Sommers about college feminists: they were rarely women who had grown up in any kind of difficult circumstances, or who had been subjected to any kind of real oppression. They were generally upper- to upper middle class, white, pretty, and from traditional families (she compares them to demographics like inner-city black and hispanic women, can can fairly be said to suffer rather a lot of sex-related hardship).
Her point was that the white girl feminists were so strident precisely because they’d been sheltered their entire lives by their socioeconomic status, and upon adulthood and moving away to college suddenly realized the world was a scary, dangerous place where being Daddy’s Little Princess didn’t matter very much. They panicked and went looking for any ideology or group that would make them feel safe and special again (for example, campus rape rates are infinitesimal compared to the rates in the inner urban areas of the surrounding cities, but college feminists don’t care about the poors)
I think there’s something similar afoot in the antifa factions. They’re uniformly from middle-class white-collar backgrounds and don’t seem to be suffering from a whole lot of actual oppression.
