If you’re in the right mood, or possibly drunk, it can be quite entertaining to trudge through the borough’s endless “diversity” boilerplate, with its air of self-satisfied obliviousness, and in which the phrase “same-sex traffic lights” is uttered without irony, and boasted of, as if this were a pivotal event in human history.

Come on now, you are selling these people short, it is not just traffic lights, it is the all important and totally novel rainbow taxi, bus, and light railroad as well.
If it weren’t for those, no one in London would ever have known there are LBRSVPЖЮ↔ people and would continue to discriminate and commit hate crimes against them.
It’s that realisation that the churners of said boilerplate seem to have no inkling that the prospect of a gay bus shelter, or gay traffic lights, or a gay road crossing, may strike many gay people, perhaps even a majority, as faintly condescending and absurd. And that boasts of “we’re doing all this for you with taxpayers’ money” are not necessarily welcome. In other words, some of us don’t walk about imagining ourselves as oppressed or marginalised and in need of affirmation, via bus shelters, in the name of “diversity.”

Clearly, “Pride” is capitalised to emphasise that it is the mortal sin that is being spoken of. It’s not even as much fun as a Gluttony event would be, nor as widely appealing for the non-PGLTBBQ majority.

Oh, for Heaven’s sake. Those bonnets, usually made of cheap nylon or polyester satin rather than expensive silk, were used by white women for decades, until curlers and the ‘do’s they produced went out of style. My mom, born in 1929, had 3 or 4 of them.

It strikes me that “equality” is the social equivalent of AI’s paperclip maximiser. Since at least the 60s, there has been a push to optimise for equal outcomes at the expense of absolutely everything else. Any attempt to push back is simply taken as evidence that yet more equality is required. Since society has in fact become more equal, increasingly fringe cases are relied upon to sustain the hysteria, as regularly documented on this blog.
