Respect Me, You Motherfucker
More from Evergreen State College, where Professor Naima Lowe, an instructor of “video and performance art” who claims expertise in “emphatically poetic gestures,” demonstrates her gift for professional conduct:
YOU are the motherfuckers that we’re pushing against! You can’t see your way outta your own ass!

Update:
Apparently, the situation at Evergreen has not improved.
Armed with baseball bats, students are channelling the radical ethos of Eighties pop combo Haysi Fantayzee.
Update 2:
And here’s a first-hand account of the Evergreen Gender Studies Massive in action:
Last Thursday, Nolan and his friends were accosted again by “the mob.” He was on his way to the bus to get dinner, and a group of about 20 people, one of them holding a bat, began following them. Many of the same characters from the first encounter were present at the second one. Nolan said it appeared like the group was waiting for him outside his dorm room, like they knew where he lived. “They were all a bunch of walking stereotypes,” he said. “It’s like Tumblr was attacking me.”
They’re all about the caring, you see.
Not fascists or communists. (Well, not just fascists or communists.)
Look at the body language in that photo.
It’s a classic
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FiveManBand
The black guy is the Leader
The redhead is the Lancer
The girl with green hair and her buddy are the Smart Guy
The blonde and the chubby girl are the Big Guy
The two in the upper right are the Chick
Everyone in that pic except the “Smart Guys” are currying favor with the Leader.
It’s a High School clique, with the usual amount of sexual tension, but with more potential for injury.
If young Nolan had made even a mild attempt to defend himself against the Tumblrinas, he’s be “Based Chalk Man”, but alas, he did not – because he still buys into the “rayciss” bullshit.
So close.
…they use communist tactics – intimidation, threats, violence…
Except for one thing, these idiots will only “fight” people who they know won’t fight back. I’d wager good money not a one has ever been in anything more than a slap fight, and the first time anyone points a 32 oz. Louisville slugger in their direction, let alone bounce one off their noggins, they’ll scatter like roaches. The Baseball Furies they are not.
Again, for the most part they’re not paying the money.
True enough. But there’s a “cost of doing business” benefit to confining all of these types in one place with a marker, i.e. “B.A. from TESC” to give fair warning to future employers in the real world. At least then the world would know that “graduates'” knowledge consists solely of alternative cosmetology and derivations of the word “fuck.”
but alas, he did not – because he still buys into the “rayciss” bullshit.
I’m not sure that he does, at least it isn’t apparent from the interview. He does, however, note that, “Being a white male, I felt if I was to attack back it would be very bad. That situation could be flipped very poorly in my direction.” Which is presumably an acknowledgement of the institutional double standard – on campus – regarding assault and harassment, one that’s all too obvious from recent events, and which the “social justice” contingent are eagerly exploiting. Hence the opportunism and air of impunity. Even the woman in the mobility scooter is acting all gangsta.
Even the woman in the mobility scooter is acting all gangsta.
Not an uncommon sight at Walmart.
(I believe Walmart is a uniquely American freak show. Especially at the beginning of the month, when the “benefits” (EBT) cards are “recharged”. Stand-up comic Larry The Cable Guy once quipped that shopping at Walmart after midnight is like walking into Monty Python’s “Ministry of Silly Walks” sketch. He’s right, it’s true!)
Even here in Seattle, Evergreen has long been a laughing stock. Notorious for the lack of anything approaching a real education. If you want to insult someone, you accuse them of going to school there (being a ‘Greenie).
I finally got around to checking out Evergreen. I note it has roughly twice as many administrative staff as academic staff. Perhaps that’s a part of the problem. It’s certainly indicative of the administrative bloat generally in American academe.
Also, a generally reasonable editorial from The Seattle Times, though it does manage to provide the evidence-free assertion that Evergreen’s current troubles are being fomented by “by extremes on the left and right.” Really? How many “right-wing” students are there at Evergreen?
Aand note with emphasis supplied:
But Evergreen faces a deeper, and more long-term threat. It is the only state four-year higher education institution to see enrollment drop steeply since 2011 despite wide-open admission standards. At about 4,080 students, it is about 300 students short of the Legislature’s funded enrollment target.
What gives me a small measure of hope is the realization that the delicate flowers of Evergreen State College are like tropical plants, thriving in an artificial environment, but in reality stuck in a greenhouse in Saskatoon. Transplantation can be a real bitch, if/when it happens.
I know you’re thinking about what happens to these Maolings when they have to leave the uni, but I’m afraid that most of them will end up in places where they can do lotsa damage.
Soros-funded activist organizations (numbering in the large dozens) will absorb many of them, wherein they’ll be protesters full-time. Those with better connections will end up in politics and government, where they can “drop the radical pose to achieve the radical ends.”
The Bolshevik and Nazi revolutionary movements took root in the universities long before they swept into the general pop. Given their reflexive support for bloodthirsty thugs like Wahhabists, and their bottomless pockets from Soros and God knows where else, they are set up rather well to do a lot of damage before they’re stopped.
Make no mistake, they WILL change the broader culture permanently. Maybe not all of it will be permanent, but the resonance from similar upheavals in the 1960s are still heard today.
Also, Charles C.W. Cooke reports that the re-engineered Sgt. Pepper’s is amazing. I don’t give a rip about the Beatles, but I still think everyone should know.
Joe McCarthy did nothing wrong.
Heh!!!
Utterly and long ago defunct, any statement like that. McCarthy’s right wing and therefore extremist reaction to anything left wing at Evergreen would have been to mirror ’em with the open intent to make everything worse.
Exactly what dicentra said.
And say what you will for Tailgunner Joe, but he found more communists than any of Hillary or crowd have found of Russian hacked election machines. Yet where is our Edward R. Murrow of today?
Oh man, that thread brings back memories, mostly of Hal’s complete moral myopia.
McCarthy certainly did something wrong, a fact that can be inferred from him losing. “Don’t lose” could perhaps be said to be the first rule of politics. Victory forgives all. And yet the narrative around him smells of Communist propaganda – thanks to Venona I can now reel off a dozen Communists in high places; the poster girl for “poor innocent victim of evil baseless-accusation-flinging man” turned out to be a Communist; when Bentley defected, Moscow knew immediately thanks to Kim Philby OBE.
When it turns out that there really were Communists everywhere, “McCarthy thought there were Communists everywhere” loses some of its punch. And so one gets “McCarthy did nothing wrong” backlash against overreach.
“McCarthy’s right wing and therefore extremist…”
Do you even listen to yourself?
73 years ago today, U.S. Marines landed on the beach at Normandy.
Only 73 years.
73 years ago today, U.S. Marines landed on the beach at Normandy.
Umm….almost. US Army. Marines missed out on that one. That one being the largest sea-born invasion in history. Some training by USMC officers, IIRC. But God bless ’em all, either way.
AAAHHHH….meant to add but got interrupted….Canadians and Brits and Poles and Aussies and on down the line. Canadians and Brits actually outnumbered US. Ahhhh….Wiki:
@WTP,
Many moons ago, I negotiated a deal with my wife for our honeymoon trip: She got a week in Paris; I got a week in Normandy. The beaches must be seen in person to really appreciate the enormity of the undertaking. We basically took the week and tried to cover the whole campaign from the landings through the Falaise Pocket. Carlo D’Este was with us in paperback and spirit. My wife took it surprisingly well, seeing as how she’s German.
I negotiated a deal with my wife for our honeymoon trip: She got a week in Paris; I got a week in Normandy.
Not the same week, I assume.
“How’s your honeymoon, darling?” “Fine, my love. I’ll send you a postcard.”
Not the same week, I assume.
She may have preferred it that way initially, now that I think about it, but she seemed actually to enjoy it actually.
Eventually.
Evidence.
Canadians and Brits actually outnumbered US…
Yes, but bear in mind the US had nigh the entire Marine Corps and most of the Army not tied up in Italy busy in the Pacific at the same time.
Research under way by the National D-Day Memorial has confirmed 4,414 deaths, of which 2,499 were American and 1,915 were from other nations.
As anyone who has ever been to Normandy can attest, it is only thanks to a miracle (and the 101st) that anyone got off the beaches, particularly Omaha.
Thank you for the correction, WTP.
Somewhat related, things overheard at a conference on “critical race theory.”
“…things overheard at a conference on “critical race theory.”
Each race-obsessed moron trying to one-up the last. It’s like a Spock-with-a-goatee parallel universe “Four Yorkshiremen”. Great Merciful Zeus.
Yet where is our Edward R. Murrow of today?
Ah, y’mean this guy?
So, when calling for a Murrow, to equally reveal and correctly bring down whom???
After all, in the last presidential election, Trump got in after the all the right wing candidates unsurprisingly and inevitably and happily all failed.
“McCarthy’s right wing and therefore extremist…”
Do you even listen to yourself?
Well, given the advantage to being conservative rather than mere right wing, why yes, I have no problems noting and sticking to reality. I do thank you for asking, though!

Somehow, it’s never the Engineering or Physics profs …
Joe McCarthy did nothing wrong.
Heh!!!
Utterly and long ago defunct, any statement like that.
Joe McCarthy was pretty much correct in his claims of both the communist threat to the US and in his identification of actual Soviet spies and agents of influence in the media and in government. As Microbillionaire said, his failure to get real action against the threat was his, and Americas, real loss – we still feel its effects today.
Here’s one especially for Hal:

So, when calling for a Murrow, to equally reveal and correctly bring down whom???
There are two kinds of people in this world. Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data.
Let me try again:

Objection: Dante never said that. The bottommost layer of Hell (I’m not aware of any literal “darkest”) is reserved for traitors in Dante’s Inferno. Those who maintain overmuch neutrality are sentenced to the “lobby” of Hell; Hell proper doesn’t want them any more than Heaven does, as they haven’t done great evil nor great good, and their assigned fate is to forever chase a moving target.

Bbbbut… you mean teh internet lied to me!
Objection: Dante never said that. The bottommost layer of Hell (I’m not aware of any literal “darkest”) is reserved for traitors in Dante’s Inferno.
Heh. Definitely not looking to start an argument on this as there’s a lot of that going around and I’m guilty of it as well, but this sort of “what we think we know” knowledge fascinates and amuses me. I thought that quote looked suspicious so I looked it up (briefly) and found numerous sources, including it being a favorite quote of JFK. Didn’t bother to dig deeper than the first couple Google links. But it’s too good to pass on. BS makes the world go ’round. Not that this is BS as it is still generally relevant, just not at the extreme stated. I’m quite the nerd that way….well, that and a few others.
“I am embedded in (and indebted to) traditions of black utterance and knowledge production. I speak in codes. I hide in plain sight as a body that’s simultaneously hyper-visible and impossible to see.”
Lady (and I use that term advisedly) your fat body is not “impossible to see.”
Here’s one especially for Hal:
Ah, so so along with apparently being clueless about McCarthy, you also haven’t read your Dante.
—It’s interesting that you’re effectively admiring my reading list.—I did a read of some translation of the Inferno several years back–and Niven and Pournelle’s Inferno as well—where at this point, Clive James’ translation of the Commedia and related commentary are actually next on the list . . .
Now, since you quite easily link McCarthy and his being a traitor—like it or not—Treason:
Rather easy googlemancy turned up another reminder.
Hoover dismayed by McCarthy’s methods / As serious an anti-communist as FBI director was, he felt name-calling senator damaged the cause
Soooo, as a reminder of what we’ve already been aware of, the issue with McCarthy isn’t that he was going after communists, the issue is that he was supporting the actual communists.
See also, and more, and Oh, look, even more:
McCarthy was, is, and will always be nothing more than a mere and typical right wing loony, incompetent, a compete failure.
“According to the Communist leaders, McCarthy has helped them a great deal,”
Commies never lie….Oh wait.
“Here was a typical communist trap, and McCarthy walked right into it,” . . .”He took after the dupes and let the hidden communists get away.”
Sounds like a bad script for an episode of ‘Scooby-Do’ – I’m sure the FBI love blaming their own failures on Joe McCarthy.
the issue is that he was supporting the actual communists.
No he wasn’t.
Hal, you’re the complete ‘conservative’ and fence-sitter who’s proud of his membership of a movement which has conserved nothing, whose only enemies are to their right and whose only desire is to be seen as good losers. You’ll end up equivocating yourself to death.
You really need to remember that Hal lives in the San Francisco/Bay area.
The definition of “conservative” in that area is somewhat unique.
“Those who maintain overmuch neutrality are sentenced to the “lobby” of Hell”
I don’t really want to know what actually goes on in the Bathroom of Hell but is it transgender-friendly?
Perhaps something like this, PP?

Richard,
The definition of “conservative” in that area is somewhat unique.
After at least 15 years, the loony Berzerkeley-ites have never been able to “out” the Bay Area’s conservative guerilla journalist Zombie. Maintaining his/her anonymity must require almost religious devotion.
You really need to remember that Hal lives in the San Francisco/Bay area.
It shocks me that in the home of Berkeley posting self-referential hyperlinks can be considered argument-ending refutation. The smelling salts, Jeeves – and toot sweet.
‘John Wayne is Big Leggy.’ Happy memories. 🙂
More from Evergreen State University . . . .

In the innermost ring of Hell, you’re always hungry, always eating. No shit.
