If You Film Us Being Violent, Violence Will Happen To You
Further to yesterday’s post and lifted from the comments, via sH2, a warning from anti-Trump protestors to Portland’s local press:
Or, “Do as we say and no-one gets hurt. Apart from the people we’re going to hurt while you’re not filming us, obviously.”
(1) “Do not help the police in identifying persons engaged in illegal activity… Consider this a warning.”
But
(2) “Keep people safe from physical harm.”
Er…
Er…
I’m assuming that if you’re something close to a sociopath, the dissonance is drowned out by lots of other mental noise.
And I thought the use of persons was a nice touch. Classy, like.
Their rote memorization of their Marxist sociology professors’ pretentious rubbish is impressive.
…drowned out by lots of other mental noise.
“There’s a loud buzzing sound in my left ear…
Whose noise? OUR NOISE!
And then of course there’s this:
I can’t help thinking that sheds some light on their motives.
David – it also might mean that they weren’t from Oregon.
Now there’s trouble bussin’ in from out of state…
But I’m confused about one thing: isn’t the entire point of a public protest to make your feelings known? Otherwise you might as well stay home, right? So if you’re trying to let everybody know how you feel, then surely sharing videos on social media would be a good idea.
This isn’t even the first time these unique and beautiful snowflakes have shunned publicity at a public protest. Remember that professor that wanted some “muscle” to get rid of the photographer? Those protesting students had been out there for a few days, and that day they’d decided they didn’t want publicity anymore – possibly because they’d seen the mockery they were getting online – and so they tried to form a human shield-wall around their own protest, preventing reporters and photographers from getting in.
It’s directly counter to the purpose of a protest: you want to effect some change or other; to do that, you need to persuade people; to do that, you need them to hear your message; and for that, you need publicity, which is why you’re all out marching in the streets and shouting through loudhailers.
Of course, thanks to this fine blog, I know that what’s really going on here is a combination of therapy and role play.
Here’s a lovely song.
Ah shit, I fucked up the italics!

Morbidly fascinated by just how many kinds of misdeed this leaflet hints at:
-there is unspecified illegal activity implied to be happening
-accessory to whatever illegal activity
-recruiting for a gang
-attempted witness intimidation/censorship
-various “conspiracy to” and “with malice aforethought” multipliers
-generally Being A Great Bloody Nuisance And Committing A Mischief (bit of a catch-all, I know)

Idiots now getting themselves run over
Let me get this straight. The people wandering onto the freeway, where large metal objects are moving at high speed, are UC San Diego students. The clever ones.
Idiots now getting themselves run overIdiots now terrorising motorists and getting some hard karma.
hard karma
I may have to borrow that one.
hard karma
Given that previous mobs of anti-Trump protestors were filmed deliberately blocking the path of ambulances – yes, ambulances – and giving the finger while doing so – I have very little sympathy for the fool who was clipped. Perhaps a trip to hospital will inspire some rethinking of her choices.
This will only get worse, I fear. Constant upheaval and unrest leading to smug “I told you Trump would be a disaster” pronouncements. It’s all so predictable.
I seem to recall a clip you showed a little while ago with students chanting “We will not be silenced by your violence”.
Let’s face it: deep in their heart of hearts, the professionally aggrieved are probably secretly delighted that Donald was the winner.
His presidency guarantees them four solid years of demonstrations and protests t a minimum. And should he win a second term – bonus!
This will only get worse, I fear.
If they can’t, despite the current harassment and intimidation, coerce enough Electors to vote for Hillary instead, they’re planning to disrupt the Inauguration ceremony – as if creating a ruckus will prevent Trump from actually taking office, and somehow they “win”.
… students chanting “We will not be silenced by your violence”.
Which really meant “If they are not silenced, we will be violent”.
students chanting “We will not be silenced by your violence”.
That’s the thing. Do we think the San Diego students blocking the freeway will eventually come to realise that they were the aggressors? Will any of them empathise with the random drivers on whom they wish to impose themselves in order to seem radical in front of their equally narcissistic and delinquent friends? Will they, of their own volition, pause to consider how frightening it must be to be driving home, perhaps with the kids in tow, and then suddenly being confronted by a mob sprawling into your path, in the dark, on a motorway, intent on who knows what? And will they understand how unwise it is for a driver to stop for a mob and allow themselves to be surrounded by it?
I mean, these are supposed to be clever people.
“I mean, these are supposed to be clever people. ”
I think you have put your finger on the problem, right there.

I take your point, but I seriously doubt we can credit them with that much self-awareness.
“We will not be silenced by your violence.”
What violence? You mean driving a car (which many of the protestors do already and, if the welfare state coughs up enough money, will enable them to drive better cars)?
It is a fair bet too, for example surging on to the freeway, these ‘students’ are actually disrupting the lives of those who voted for Killary rather than Trump. I mean, it was in pro-Democrat California, right? Or have they moved San Diego somewhere else?
Idiots now getting themselves run over
Instapundit behind the wheel?
Their list of things to do has “collaborate” without the prerequisite “stop” or the following “listen”?
It’s almost as if these people are no good at flow. No wonder they don’t want to be filmed – anything less than the best is a felony.
Word to your mother.
I live in Yurrup, so I have only a vague notion of how USA elections work. That said, didn’t the USA freely choose its own electoral system: the one whereby the Electoral College, rather than the popular vote, decides the result? If that is no longer deemed appropriate/viable by a majority of the electorate, surely the better option would be to campaign to get rid of the Electoral College?
Street protests against an election result which, according to current legislation, is both wholly legal and legitimate, doesn’t make any sense. If you want change, address the source of the iniquity and not the by-product.
Is there any reason why Hillary Clinton is not calling publicly for an end to the protests? Perhaps she wants to set the stage for 2020, but that would mean she is placing herself above the nation’s interest. Can’t be.
Is there any reason why Hillary Clinton is not calling publicly for an end to the protests?
Visiting hours are somewhat limited at the Betty Ford Clinic.
@Lisboeta: a political system (or elements thereof) is only legitimate in their eyes so long as it leads to the desired outcome. Shades of Erdogan’s remarks on democracy being like a train, a process for arriving at the results you want and then “getting off”.
The Electoral College is laid out in the Constitution itself, and provides (like the original systems for selection of a US Senator) a brake on possible tyranny of the majority. It ensures that a bulk of *states*, and not merely a thin majority of all citizens, makes the decision for the highest office. It also tends to isolate any issues with vote fraud and ensure that recount events and the like are limited in impact.
It also (through the Founders’ fetish for representationalism) provides a series of mechanisms for dealing with the unknown – death of candidate through freak accident, etc. etc.
Further, electoral college victory has always been the set of rules played by and expected by everyone. Declaiming post facto that the EC system is rigged and that Hillary was the “true” winner has been compared to a claim that the Baseball World Series was really a tie because the two teams involved scored an equal number of total points. The Republican model for winning always hinges on turning out as widely as possible all the rural areas, and the Democrats must demagogue in the cities. Electoral victory alone is a tough row for the Republicans to hoe due to having to reach further for it – but Trump himself remarked if the model depended on the popular vote instead he’d have just spent more time in California. In other words, turning out those people who suffer too substantial local disadvantage to ever bother voting.
But, “protests”. You have a set of individuals who first believed that the election of Donald Trump was impossible, now grasping at a set of straws to alter reality to conform to their delusion. It must retroactively become as impossible as they believed it to be, supposedly because “unfair”, but these are the same folk who militated against Bush in ’04, who *had* won the popular vote as well. Allegations of vote fraud in Pennsylvania were stirred up, with claims then that John Kerry should properly have won Pennsylvania and the *electoral* victory, though not necessarily the popular vote!
Setting aside a plausible claim that the extremely narrow margin in the popular vote this time could be due to fraud (surprisingly easy in large portions of the US) and thus no true popular vote victory, some of the throngs are in the meantime attempting to be more “realistic” in their efforts to undo the election… by threatening electors and trying to coerce the College – nevermind that any vote has to be approved by the House of Representatives.
There are those in these “protests” acting in a vague resemblance of good faith – these are the catspaws and fools. Anyone involved with sufficient sanity to recognize a “redo” as a pipe dream has interest in fomenting the riots for political capital – delegitimizing the opposition.
All talk of fairness and this coming as a terrible surprise thereby is a smokescreen.

“Perhaps she wants to set the stage for 2020”
I really doubt that Hillary Clinton will be very functional by 2020, if she’s still alive. She really seems to be in pretty bad health, no matter how much her quaking, stumbling, collapsing, etc. was whitewashed by her court press.
Seriously, I’ve watched loved ones exhibit much the same behaviors. And they didn’t last long, alas.

Something referring to a bathroom or directions to one come to mind . . . .
@Sort-of-Mad Max: One of the interesting Podesta emails had something along the lines of how a seizure she’d suffered was really nothing to worry about, because it was just the complication of an untreated dental infection that had come about as a result of healthy bacteria being wiped out by antibiotics in the course of treating another issue…
The mind reels. A succession of ills among which a seizure was really nothing too shocking. Clearly in the pink, then, nothing to worry about.
@Hal: Péngsōng, according to The Google. I’d expect to see that word or a a derivative used in Korean as well, as all The Google’s translations for Korean directly were inexact. Chinese words get used in Korean a bit like French ones get used idiomatically or snobbily in English – though it’s a popular NK claim that they don’t use any such thing, like the SK’s do. Why, of course not.
They look so… ordinary.
They are. That’s what they’re protesting.
Ordinary or sub-ordinary with delusions of important unusuality – which they indicate by being radical in appearance in the same way as everyone around them.
At times like these, I almost miss Minnow’s drivel on appearance bigotry.
“surely the better option would be to campaign to get rid of the Electoral College?”
Lisboeta, to get rid of the Electoral College would require a Constitutional Amendment. A Constitutional Amendment reuires a 2/3 majority vote to pass in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. Then, within 7 yaers of passage in the House and the Senate, 37 states must vote (by simple majority of votes cast) in favor of the Amendment. A tall order (the USA Founders made it that way deliberately).
Given that it is the Democrat Party that is now all up-in-arms to eliminate the Electoral College, and the fact that the Republican party has majorities in both the US House and Senate, to say nothing of the fact that the Republican Party controls the governorships, and both houses of Congress in the majority of US States, it ain’t going to happen.
But that hasn’t stopped the dumbest US Senator, Barbara Boxer, Democrat from California, from putting forward a bill to do just that.
I see I should have read Sportakus’ comment at 21:29 before posting immediately above. Sorry for the wasted pixels…
@Sporkatus. Thumbs up for the Electoral College explanation. Sadly, most of us learned than fifth grade Civics. That American adults still don’t get it is appalling.

Speaking of taking leave of senses, here is a dose that defines batshit crazy.
But wait ! That’s not all!
Sadly, that is not satire, it is from the “newletter” of the so called actress, Lena Dunham, and the sort of mindset with which normal people contend in these times.
PBS News Hour tonight thinks it’s suitable to reflect on the anniversary of the attack at Bataclan, Paris. By going to rural Denmark to interview a Danish psychiatrist who was a witness.

champ @ November 15, 2016 at 23:50:
Actually, there is no Constitutional time limit on the ratification of a proposed amendment. Several amendments have included such limits in the text of the amendment (18th, 20th, 21st, 22nd) but in those cases the limit applied only to that amendment.
The 27th Amendment, which says that a pay increase for Senators and Representatives does not take effect till after the next election, was proposed in 1789, but not finally ratified until 1992.
David, have your countrymen taken leave of their senses?
So the Independent, that great flower of leftwing journalism, is now basing its headlines on something said in jest by seven people on Twitter.
Yeah, I saw where one of my friends thanked Obama for leaving us with a scandal-free eight years, and almost burst into tears, because I really like that friend and it’s so sad she’s lost her mind.
There’s seriously too much here – I don’t even know where to start.
These people are unbelievably stupid.
Is this what the 60’s was really like?
Is this what the 60’s was really like?
Oh, Hell no.
Completely the handiest thoughts that come to mind are; Read up on . . . and the brain goes blank, so will do the Googlemancy, find the bits where a prolly very bored cop is sitting in his car, totally being left alone, as someone, or ones, stand on the roof to give a speech on that handy impromptu police car stage. Look up Wavy Gravy and track down references to the Please Force—notPolice, Please—
Look up Buddhist monk immolation, and compare that to the hipsters . . . .
That was the sixties.
Pissant childish right wing liberal whining about Trump beating out the right wing candidates was not the sixties. Aaaaaaannnnnnddd . . . —just stared at the ceiling fer a moment— Thursday night, coming out of a party in Oakland, I rather deliberately strolled towards that night’s initial round of marching in circles, and to my total lack of surprise, got the the Bart station with cops just arriving to start blocking street traffic, into the station I went with zero difficulties.
Tonight, coming out of a meeting, heard of what was prolly rather more of the same in SF, mebbe, where I went strolling sort of towards that—off to Bart again—and again to my utter lack of surprise, saw all being quite benign . . . and that also was not the sixties.
In part of my current job hunting I got sent off to help with a local SF campaign—SF Proposition I, passed with 66% when only needing a simple majority—and one of my campaign associates has worked masses of campaigns, is not happy with Trump winning and bloody well states that the Democrats utterly screwed up by not running Sanders, as well as utterly ignoring the success that Sanders had; Basically an overall assessment that the election results are the Dems own damned fault, to totally and utterly ignore that many, many, many were totally opposed to Trump and totally and utterly chose to utterly and completely vote against Clinton . . . . .
Taking what is as far as actual undeniable occurrences, not wasting time in denials, and turning it inside out and doing with aplomb, That was the sixties . . . .
The Guardian has also covered that ‘mansplaining’ article (God, I’d hate to live in Sweden). The censors have had to work very hard to keep Wrongthought to a minimum, as you might expect.
@I sneeze in threes…..

Idiots now getting themselves run over
Incidentally, the idiot student who was clipped by a car was taken to hospital with a broken leg. Why, it’s almost as if swarming onto a motorway just after midnight in order to alarm and harass drivers isn’t a good idea. According to this report, “there were no arrests.”
According to this report, “there were no arrests.”
Is this how it works now -we’re just not enforcing laws against running onto freeways?
Speaking of traffic obstruction and attempts to intimidate, here’s a jolly gathering of leftist ‘protestors’ who found it amusing to trap a lone woman in her car before smashing her windscreen with a baseball bat. And then standing around to video her distress.
This is who they are. And this is why it’s unwise to stop.
And this is why it’s unwise to stop.
One of my younger brothers friends installed a train horn under his truck some years ago. I’m going to ask my brother about that friend and find out how much it would cost for a similar upgrade to my own vehicle. Such a modification would’ve proven quite useful to the young woman above.
leftist ‘protestors’ who found it amusing to trap a lone woman in her car before smashing her windscreen with a baseball bat. And then standing around to video her distress.
It’s like a scene from the zombie apocalypse.
It’s like a scene from the zombie apocalypse.
Well, as we’ve seen many times, the masked, bat-wielding sociopaths are often mixed in with the kind of “social justice” pinheads who think that cars doing 60mph will just harmlessly bounce off of them. Or the kind that thinks it’s amusing to video a woman being threatened by a mob. But if a large group of so-called ‘protestors’ tries to stop your car, and tries to surround you, and taunt you, and God knows what else, it would be foolish to assume that you’ll only have the air-headed variety to deal with. They always mean you harm; it’s just a question of degree.
This is who they are.
Yes, until they run into someone willing to confront them.
…if you film us being violent…
A pair of these might come in handy… http://bit.ly/2fVDi9S
This is bizarre:
So, apparently the murder of 3000 people doesn’t bother her, but Americans exercising their right to vote for the candidate of their choice does?
Is there any reason why Hillary Clinton is not calling publicly for an end to the protests?
Yes. She doesn’t have to, because the new media focus is on the YUGE upsurge in anti-muslim and anti-black violence since the election. Once again the invaluable PBS News Hour has the info, courtesy some fool from the Southern Poverty Law Center, another fool from some BLM-related group, and a third fool from the NYC print media.
Exactly zero mention of the last week of actual protests, riots, and other foolishness by THEIR supporters.
They’re trying to invoke fear in the emotionally fragile. Or maybe provide the illusion that large amounts of people are afraid. Remember that these are people who will say / do outrageous things as a ‘trial balloon’ but then back down when challenged with a, “It was only a joke / social commentary / art project / social science experiment, why you so serious / over-reacting?”

Not only is “Stevie” an imbecile adoptee of the “x lives don’t matter to y” trope (because weighing competing interests is impossible to such a child-like mind), but xe is a fucking awful artist engaging in one of my pet peeves. A stylistic carryover from copying anime stills and horribly incongruous:
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CheekyMouth
Stevie also fails at grammar, so xe can fuck right off.
This is bizarre:
“Stevie” is also unclear on subject. Note the “honorable” feeling of fear and worry on behalf of poor neglected others… which thoroughly collapses in the second panel. “Weak others” effortless slides in a non sequitur into “>Our< lives" - >“ME, ME, ME”. Exotic worries held in selfish flattery somehow supporting selfish claims of exotic fears for self.
Plus, Sporktacus, xe also does that “missing the back of the skull” thing, indicative of aboriginal backboarding of babies or of massive cranial damage.
This is bizarre
Not really. Kind of expected, actually. We need a clearing house of all the anti-trump violence videos and such. There’s a serious campaign of rumors and other unverifiable stories of violence from “emboldened” racists, etc. and Trump supporters. Dismiss them as drama queens, and yes that they are, but if their drama becomes the story or it becomes “Well both sides are equally to blame”, this (possibly last) prime opportunity to stop these clowns will have been missed.
We need a clearing house of all the anti-trump violence videos and such.

I did rather like that, though I’m pretty sure that’s not what the lefties mean by “get in their faces”.
