Are Kingsman, Bond and Transformers subversive? Who knew. Take Kingsman for example, seems the idea of a climate change psycho is a bridge too far.

Heh. I thought the original piece had a certain charm – capturing the boys’ excited reactions – but he rather blows it with the update (which I hadn’t seen): “I am close friends with their parents, a fair percentage of whom are artists or writers, or people married to artists or writers… In my little world, you worry mainly about whether a [film] could be considered good art.”
I don’t think he’s quite hearing what it is he’s typing.

As David likes to quote, artists claim their work is supposed to be “challenging” and “transgressive”. This is what happens when a work is challenging and transgressive toward them.

Regarding “28 Days Later”, I actually found this quite disturbing, or at least the first half. The second half descended into the standard British film-genre of gore and Hate Figures (posh British Army Officer and squaddies) so was more relaxing.

I’m being serious.
I was first offered this only a handful of years ago.
I thought it was either a mistake or some sort of hospitality desperation.
But it wasn’t.
I found it very nice.
Unrelated, but another new thing for me too and introduced by the same race (the New Zealander) , raw swede, which can be sweet and crunchy in a similar way to raw carrot.

I’m reminded of the party that included dill pickle wrapped in salami with peanut butter on top . . . The very definite sensation of synapses resetting was very interesting . . . .
On the slurpee waves….yes, that’s exactly how ice forms in a moving sea. I could never figure it out until I moved to Russia, but saw it first hand when I did. Rather than a skim forming and being broken up, it just gets more and more viscous, and then the viscosity changes to lumps of ice which get bigger and bigger and join together to form a sort of raft which eventually sits on the surface like a swimming pool cover. This then thickens and freezes as the movement becomes less and less. It’s an interesting thing to see happen, and the slurpee conditions are really weird.

Digestive biscuits go very well with some hard cheeses.
And here I was thinking “which type of Guil Guide biscuits [sic]?”
On Trefoils, maybe. But not on my Thin Mints or Samoas!

No, I don’t think so, well not if your digestives are like ours, which is highly likely.
I too would have cheese on a digestive and not think it an odd combo, or jam or marmite or vegemite or honey or tomato or a lot of things. A handy biscuit.
The Girl Guide is a fairly sweet biscuit and looks like one, but I don’t know what to compare them with because nothing else you can buy here tastes like them.
Only available once a year via the Guides and not in shops.
Australian ones taste and look the same.

Have looked at your link and can appreciate that it is difficult to suggest equivalent.
Interesting that Girl Guide biscuits are noticeably sweeter and that works well with cheese.
At the risk of driving our host up the wall:
We do rich fruitcake with some cheeses.
And Americans do apple pie with cheddar.
Both work wonderfully.
