I’ve been encountering a lot of specious arguments these past two weeks regarding crime and mental illness, and I’m about to smack the world upside the head.

Remember that “stuck accelerator” scare some years ago? Turned out to be confused drivers pressing the wrong pedal and then panicking when the car sped up.
‘Pedal misapplication’ was the term used to avoid calling the drivers ‘idiots’.
Accelerators can stick, depending on design. A build up of grease and dirt around an exposed accelerator cable just before it enters a protective cable housing or even in much rarer cases within a cable housing can cause it to stick. Usually in much older cars that have been on the road 15-20 years or so.
