There was an article… by Lauren Rowello – a they, she’s a pronoun pointer, “they/them” – and her article was saying, “Kink belongs at Pride, and I want my children to see it.” The whole thing is… talking about how, if children are exposed to kink, then it will show them that not everyone is into the same stuff, blah blah blah. We used to have a word for that. And that word used to be grooming.
Given recent posts – and lest we assume that all people with gender dysphoria are insufferably woke - this video by Sinead Watson may be of interest. It’s not the most jolly viewing, but it is frank and eloquent, and, I think, informative. Issues touched on include the practicalities of transitioning and de-transitioning; the eye-widening failures of supposed experts; social contagion; and attempts by activists and their cheerleaders to erase the customary boundaries of women and children, and those between childhood and the adult world. Regarding which, Laurie Penny gets a brief mention. The word arsehole is used.
A second, longer video, in which Ms Watson talks with Benjamin Boyce, can be found here.
Lifted from the comments. Which you’re reading, of course.
I’ve literally just watched that this morning after following a link in your previous post.
It’s heart-breaking and compelling in equal turns – though there is some hope in there too, I should add.
The word arsehole is used.
Not the only one she uses, and rightly so.
’… and lest we assume that all people with gender dysphoria are insufferably woke…’
The other type never seem to be selected by the MSM as ‘spokespersons’, though.
It’s heart-breaking and compelling in equal turns – though there is some hope in there too, I should add.
It’s not the kind of thing I’d usually search out, but I found myself watching the whole video. For someone supposedly “rambling,” can of beer in hand, it’s well expressed and at times rather vivid.
If nothing else, it’s interesting to see someone acknowledging things we’ve discussed here, but from the inside, as it were. I forget whether it’s in the first video or the one with Benjamin Boyce, maybe both, but the description of cult-like behaviour and the intolerance of even measured demurral, any acknowledgment of reality – the pressure to affirm, regardless – is quite telling too. It reminded me of how people who are committed to an obviously false or absurd position can be quite vehement and hostile.

Always have done. It’s one of things that makes this blog special.
It’s one of things that makes this blog special.
As I’ve often said, the comments are where much of the good stuff is waiting to be found.
You can imagine how that chafes.
My wife has a podcast where she interviews people who chose not to be victims after trauma – one of them touches on some of the same themes if y’all are interested: https://www.toughlovepodcast.com/episodes/episode-016-how-to-survive-and-thrive-after-detransitioning-with-rachel
This Wi Spa incident and the response are just so funny to me. I read statements like this from our betters all the time, but try as I might, I simply can’t imagine someone uttering them in real life. Anita Sarkeesian and Laurie Penny and others have thoughts.
More on the above from Brendan O’Neill here. And I had to see this, so now you do, too.
regarding others having “thoughts”:
“..look at other people’s junk in the locker room why is this hard.”
Why is it hard, indeed!
I had to see this, so now you do, too.
Well, that’s the term “mouthfeel” fucked. Thank you so much 😠
Well, that’s the term “mouthfeel” fucked.
I’ll just leave this here.
David Thompson. “Feeling knobs since 2013”.
And no, before anyone jumps in, “Feeling Knobs” is not a good band name.
…”Feeling Knobs” is not a good band name.
No, but it is a village west of Twaddle Farnsworth.
I read statements like this from our betters all the time…
David, note that Wesley Yang is a columnist at the supposedly sane Tablet Magazine. The rot is everywhere.
…but try as I might, I simply can’t imagine someone uttering them in real life.
Real life is becoming increasingly surreal.

Some of your best work is down here, too. Amidst the rabble.
“..look at other people’s junk in the locker room why is this hard.”
Feminists fly into a rage if a man merely glances their way–the “male gaze” as mind-rape–but a naked man can parade his junk in front of a naked young girl if he says the magic words first?
There are a few holes in that there liberal logic.
Taking a trip in the Way Back Machine…It was more than 40 years ago at a small university located along the Otanabee River in Eastern Ontario when a female philosophy professor -new to the university- recounted her experiences that morning in what she thought (because of the sign on the door) was the women’s locker room. She was beginning to change into her workout clothes when a naked young man emerged from the shower room, plopped himself down on the bench next to her and said “Hi! Are you getting an early workout today?”. She picked up her bag and departed posthaste. She later learned that the locker rooms and dormitories on campus had been “liberated” by students despite contrary and unenforced university policies. “Everyone” knew this, she was informed.
A colleague commented that many parents send their children to this small town university to keep them away from big bad Toronto where they would be exposed to all manner of degenerate ideas and behavior.

We do seem to live in unhinging times. As Ms Watson notes in the second video, the increase in cases and referrals over the last decade or so, especially among young women and girls – previously a minority of cases – is so large, and so shifted in its composition, that media visibility alone doesn’t appear to be an adequate explanation. In terms of scale, it’s not unlike if, say, a fifth of the population suddenly said it was gay. You might think something odd were happening.
Hence the concerns over increasingly strident activism and demands for fast-tracking transition, and misdiagnosis, and social contagion, to which young women as a group are especially prone. And if adolescents mistake relatively common teenage identity issues as being gender dysphoria – and it seems many are doing – and if those young people are feeling pressured to consider serious, life-altering, and irreversible procedures – this is rather disturbing. As is the haste and frequency with which those asking about such things are denounced as “transphobic.”
In the video, the word apostate is used. Rightly, I think.
And likewise, it seems we mustn’t consider the possibility that the gender dysphoria may be a secondary effect, a consequence of some other issue or traumatic experience, often childhood abuse, such that the victim becomes alienated from the body that was assaulted, i.e., from being the sex they are. In order to be woke, and affirming, we mustn’t acknowledge that gender dysphoria is often a coping strategy, albeit a horribly dysfunctional one. And we must pretend these things despite the fact that, as a group, transgender people report very high rates of sexual abuse, and especially childhood molestation.
Apologies for my unclear wording – Wesley Yang was just highlighting one of the more unhinged parts of this Washington Post article.
I read statements like this from our betters all the time, but try as I might, I simply can’t imagine someone uttering them in real life.
Also…
…the unwillingness to admit that seeing the same body parts is just a trifle different than some bozo waving his johnson in the ladies because wokeness is more important than privacy or dignity is getting a bit tedious, but hey, “gash”, is totes not derogatory, so that is just peachy.

Ah, thank you, David. Lesson: I should have looked at more of Yang’s tweets rather than make a careless assumption.
The word arsehole is used.
The word ought to be used quite rarely, but there are so many arseholes.
but there are so many arseholes.
Speaking of which, who was it who made comments on one of these threads about science fiction and its fans?

The problem is that nowhere else in nature or make by man is there a valve that can detect the difference between solids, liquids, and gasses, and close to 100% of the time know which one to pass. Call someone an asshole, you are calling that person a genius.
and close to 100% of the time know which one to pass
Ohhh, we have a braggart here I see.

Ms Watson makes a similar point in the second video.
The problem is…
I see you’ve given this more thought than was strictly necessary.
I see you’ve given this more thought than was strictly necessary.
It was on the physiology finals.
Call someone an asshole, you are calling that person a genius.
I think you meant “you are sometimes calling that person a genius.” The vast majority of assholes are simply assholes. And of the geniuses I have known, yes, some were assholes but their social failings and depravities were still faults rather than virtues.
Physiology or psychology finals?
Given recent posts – and lest we assume that all people with gender dysphoria are insufferably woke
Nay, not all, no, and I don’t think many persons here think so either. However, it is not the ImWatsons of the gender dysphoria world who are trying to force reality to bend to their whims, and who have the ear of the media, the major corporations, and the government to make that happen. There are plenty of people with gender dysphoria or people who happen to be gay, or black, or disabled, or whatever other Identity class that comes with Victim Points who just want to live their lives in peace and let the rest of the world get on with theirs. It’s the insufferably woke ones who want the rest of us to bow down to their flag or they will burn down everything we love, as I think it was SteveE who put it. And it’s the insufferably woke ones who have the power to do that.
S. E. Smith looks like a very happy person.

“Feeling Knobs” is not a good band name.
In Chapel Hill, N.C., in the 1980s,* I danced to The Fabulous Knobs.
* Also to REM, B-52s, and Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band’s “Boogie Til You Puke.” Good times, boyos.
I watched most of that video, thanks for posting it yesterday, and not that there was much there that I didn’t already know/suspect but hearing it directly from a victim of our corrupt and criminally insane mental health professionals is still informative. From what I’ve been able to find, some 150,000 American children are undergoing hormone trans “therapy” of some kind but very, very few people seem to care to speak up about it. I found one pediatrician who was on several boards who said other doctors/pediatricians were afraid to speak against it. F****g cowards. How much g-d money does a doctor need to make before he or she can buy their consciences/souls back from evil? Meanwhile, a cop accidentally kills one drug addicted thug and the country, then Western civilization goes up in flames.
After posting the above, my YouTube recommendations have taken an… interesting turn.
Let me rephrase that…Meanwhile one drug addicted thug in a hysterical illegal drug induced state dies while a cop is trying to arrest him…well, you get the idea. Hopefully.
Also good for chafing.

At risk of self-promotion — I’ve read Irreversible Damage, the book by Abigail Shrier — a sobering, well-researched read that the usual suspects denounce and try to have banned.
While detransistioners like Ms. Watson acknowledge that gender dysphoria does exist (as does Shrier throughout her book), the advocates of “Affirmative Therapy” refuse to acknowledge detransistioners or their concerns. Indeed, they viciously attack any questioning at all of their Revealed Truth.
Cultists.
At risk of self-promotion…
Go for it, Dar.

Having been a young, stay-at-home mom living in southern California during the McMartin Preschool debacle, I’ve also noted the frightening similarities — with the parents and others speaking out against the mutilation of minor kids being cast in the Satanic Abuser role.

So does cutting, drug abuse, bug chasing, facial piercing and self-destructive sexual behaviour. And for the same reasons.

Bug chasing? I had not heard of that one.
Anorexia is body dysphoria just as real in the minds of the anorexic as gender dysphoria is in the minds of trans people. Yet we don’t give liposuctions or other cosmetic surgeries to anorexics, nor do we affirm their dysphoria.
The same people who insist that men can become women simply by saying so because they feel strongly that way also insist that you can’t become black simply because you feel strongly that way. Somehow racial attributes are sacred and immutable, but sexual ones are not. And this is the same crowd that f*cking LOVES Science.
And for the same reasons.
It is interesting that, in [current year] victimhood conveys saintly status yet actual abuse victims keep getting sidelined in favor of invented or highly exaggerated abuse. I suppose it’s like communists always singing the praises of the proletariat yet never actually wishing to join them, and ignoring the poverty their policies create.
Actual, pervasive problems can be addressed – though never eliminated – through difficult, painstakingly honest examination of the causes and tradeoffs needed to alleviate the issue. Far better to create new problems, solutions to which can be used as vehicles for grift and political oppression.
And this is the same crowd that f*cking LOVES
