The Thought Process Escapes Me

I don’t think there is a thought process.

What struck me, other than the oddness, was a sense that it’s the kind of crime we’re likely to be seeing with greater frequency.

I hesitate to extrapolate too wildly, but we do seem to be seeing incidents with a certain unhappy resonance. A things-to-come quality.

Your universe has no meaning to them.

Well, some people, a great many of them self-styled progressives, do seem to struggle with the reality of just how unlike them human beings can be. 

And in terms of crime and disorder, as I’ve said before:  

I’d guess that many of those who’ve witnessed or experienced serious, aggressive criminality may have been wrong-footed and inhibited by their own disbelief – their own struggle to process the alien behaviour that they’re seeing. Sociopathic activity and feral predation can – to the civilised – seem bewildering and surreal.

Examples abound.

Let’s just check in on the Green Party.

Travel by bus. It’s much less fuss.

I’m still pondering the surrealism of it.

I mean, there are situations in which you might take measures to minimise the risk of encountering pathology or criminal predation. You lock your car, ensure any valuables are out of sight, cross the road to avoid sketchy characters, or whatever. 

But it’s hard to see how one might make efforts to avoid some creature breaking off your door knocker and casually walking away with it.

Is today’s word symbolism? 

It very often is.

The sacking of Europe is a slow, drawn out, affair.

By the way, there’s a second video on Facebook, in which the same creature returns seconds later to steal the other door knocker. 

I believe they’re made of brass.

It’s now weirdly close to a comedy sketch.

Childhood exposure to such vermin greatly aids comprehension.

It’s interesting to contrast Dr Matthews’ assumptions with one’s own experience of growing up in the rougher parts of town. Our fretful Guardianista doesn’t seem to understand antisocial behaviour, why it tends to be concentrated in those areas, and why people spend so much time and effort trying to get away from it.

When I was a child, a nearby garden, one that was clearly looked after, was targeted for littering and abuse. Trash would be thrown at the flowers, decapitating them, and thrown across the lawn, over and over again. When empty pop cans failed to decapitate their targets, flower heads were simply kicked off by spiteful laughing morons.

The morons in question didn’t appear to desire their own presentable gardens. I think it’s fair to say they had zero interest in horticulture, or the effort it entails. They just didn’t want anyone else to have one, and eagerly directed their efforts to that end. The fact that the garden was attractive and orderly, and a labour of love, was precisely the reason for it being targeted in this way.

The people doing this, some of whom I went to school with, weren’t “marginalised” or somehow oppressed by a lack of “services.” In fact they seemed to suffer much less than the elderly gent whose garden was being destroyed.

Still, at least it made the absurdity of Guardian columnists pretty hard to miss.
