The Little Things
Further to yesterday’s post (and any number of others), Arthur C Brooks on the consequences of competitive victimhood:
Victimhood culture makes for worse citizens — people who are less helpful, more entitled, and more selfish. In 2010, four social psychologists from Stanford University published an article titled “Victim Entitlement to Behave Selfishly” in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. The researchers randomly assigned 104 human subjects to two groups. Members of one group were prompted to write a short essay about a time when they felt bored; the other to write about “a time when your life seemed unfair. Perhaps you felt wronged or slighted by someone.” After writing the essay, the participants were interviewed and asked if they wanted to help the scholars in a simple, easy task.
The results were stark. Those who wrote the essays about being wronged were 26 percent less likely to help the researchers, and were rated by the researchers as feeling 13 percent more entitled. In a separate experiment, the researchers found that members of the unfairness group were 11 percent more likely to express selfish attitudes. In a comical and telling aside, the researchers noted that the [self-defined] victims were more likely than the non-victims to leave trash behind on the desks and to steal the experimenters’ pens.
Imagine my surprise. Via Ace.

#Occupy, #BlackLivesMatter 🙂
#Occupy, #BlackLivesMatter 🙂
Well, quite. The pretence of victimhood does seem to give the pretenders a license for spitefully antisocial, even sociopathic behaviour.

That explains Liverpool & Scotland then
Meanwhile, in the ‘Guardian’, you won’t be surprised the answer is ‘No’:

. . . & Scotland then
??!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!
Oh. Could you clarify?
D’ye mean Scotland or merely assorted aspects of what I’ve been reading of the SNP?

Googlemancy: hipsters litter

Oh. Could you clarify?
Grievance Central at present. Everything is the fault of Westminster, despite the fact that the SNP have been in govt for 8 years. The SNP – a party founded by a Nazi sympathiser and run by people who think Braveheart is a documentary.
The Scottish Resistance are a hoot. Allo! Allo! in a kilt.

I was immediately reminded of the young woman who participated in disrupting Milo Yiannpoulos’s speach at Rutgers by smearing fake blood around the venue. When confronted with the fact that some poor custodial personnel had to clean up the mess, she announced quite indignantly that she had relatives who were custodians and the issues being protested were bigger than any inconvenience caused for the cleaning staff. Evidently, cleaning up after one’s own tantrum did not occur to her.
I think this is the student to which I refer above.
she announced quite indignantly that… the issues being protested were bigger than any inconvenience caused for the cleaning staff.
An arrogant, self-flattering bitch. How surprising.
It reminds me of this bit of self-congratulatory theatre by very similar people. In 2011, the clowns of Occupy Oakland blocked traffic for hours, danced on trucks and declared themselves “ecstatic” after shutting down one of the country’s busiest container ports and preventing hundreds of employees from earning a living. When frustrated drivers and manual workers explained to the jeering middle-class students how much money they were losing, the Occupiers, with names like Sebastian Fletcher-Taylor, were triumphal.
One of the ‘protest’ organizers, Christine Cordero, said, “The protest went pretty well… a huge success, actually. We are maybe hurting their bottom line for one day, but this [i.e., Occupy] is a much larger movement we’re talking about.” You see, the actual working-class people – for whom the dancing and jeering were supposedly enacted – are small fry and will just have to learn their place in the new, more progressive pecking order.
Related?
The WRRC also made counselors available to pro-choice students attending the rally to offer “empathetic listening, support, and access to mind spa services.”
Mind spa? I suppose actual academic classes are insufficient.
“…will just have to learn their place…”
That reminded me of a recent comment on a sociology group’s Facebook post about the ‘praising of gifted students for being smart’:
“The world is changing to be more suitable for certain traits and less suitable for others.
This will result in a change of class structure – the oppressed will become the oppressor, and vice versa.”
I think we need to be a bit careful accepting that result as confirmation of our prior beliefs regarding the character of the aggressively aggrieved. These ‘priming’ results are currently disputed as part of a general crisis of reproducibility in the social sciences.

It’s about time people woke up to the fact that “liberals”, feminists, Islamists – the whole motley crew of fellow travellers – haven’t “taken over” anything.
They are Stalin’s quintessential “useful idiots”.
Their rise to almost complete dominance in administrations (i.e. the middle-management institutions called “governments”), academia and the media is NOT the result of their own strategy and acumen.
Can anyone step back and then seriously continue to believe the like’s of Laura Penny and her pollyanna-ish rants are published the length and breadth of the Fourth Estate by virtue of their, er, quality? Their popularity? Their readability? Their informativeness? That there is anything remotely like a consensus that her thoughts and writing is deserving of merit?
Money talks, bullshit walks – Laurie Penny, Caitlin Moran, Jessica Valenti and thousands like them are scouted while in their college years and then have their progress in academia (almost always studying non-rigorous ‘social sciences’) and their subsequent careers (usually in media) greased behind the scenes by a hidden hand that wields unlimited money and influence, IOW, power.
They are, generally, unaware of this themselves, and being innately narcissistic (one of the qualities that gets them scouted in the first place), they become ever more impressed with themselves, developing the monumental self-importance and hubris that typifies them.
At some point, though, many are ‘inducted’ and made aware of the part they have been playing in the neutering of Western culture, which has been carefully orchestrated over recent generations to render it supine and unable to muster any kind of defence to the coming NWO. They can then stay at the trough by taking up “advisory positions” within the corporate state (see, for example, Anita Sarkeesian – UN “ambassador”, appointed to the Twitter “Trust and Safety Council” board of commissars).
Know your enemy.
Very interesting – I wonder how long it will take for the world to wake up to victimhood not being a virtue?
Blacks cannot be racist, it’s well known by all the right people. Meaning people on the left, of course. No, not even when they spew blatantly racist statements or beat up non-blacks or insist on segregation.
If you can stuff all that nonsense into your brain at the same time, you may be insane.
“Very interesting – I wonder how long it will take for the world to wake up to victimhood not being a virtue?”
Or that “virtue signalling” isn’t actually virtuousness?
But what creates this fanatical intolerance that those submerged in identity politics have for views other than their own?
It’s not just strong disagreement, it’s palpable loathing for those who differ. Some truly believe that everyone except those who share their politics are close-minded bigots.
Irony, of course, is lost on them.
Feminist complains that not enough men are turning up at feminist events to be educated about their privilege. If you put on a struggle session, and no class enemy turns up to be ritually humiliated, what fun is there in that?
“Labour will put Black and Asian families first in order to end racism”.
Don’t know why black is capitalized – it’s not a place.

I’m pretty sure this is a spoof. Inept as ‘Special Ed’ was, I doubt even he could be quite so stupid.
