When men start to cross-dress and profess female identities, for which they demand affirmation, this does very often come with a bundle of comorbidities, including Cluster B personality disorders. At rates up to ten times higher than in the general population.

Ditto women who want to grow a beard and pretend to be a man. 

It is, broadly speaking, a warning sign.

I suppose that’s what makes the issue, shall we say, contentious. The phenomenon has generally been understood as, at best, slightly absurd and, at worst, dangerous. There aren’t many scenarios in which the behaviour bodes well.

Yet we’re now supposed to regard it as something to affirm, a basis for pride.

I was just about to take a stroll to the shops, a constitutional. It has, of course, starting raining.

I’m not entirely sure what’s “far right” – sorry, “very far right” – about country pubs with Labradors in them. Nor is it clear to me why these things, which definitely do exist, should be things “that we don’t want to have.” Supposedly on grounds, never made clear by Ms Riddell-Carpenter, that such things – which supposedly don’t exist – are insufficiently “progressive.”

I went to one a few weeks ago for Sunday lunch. It was very agreeable. I could happily recommend it.

As so often, the blather strikes me as unmoored from reality. The country pubs we’ve visited, which I don’t think are in any way unusual, have been agreeable places to be. A mix of people, of various types and colours, including burly bikers and blue-rinsed dears, all seemingly having a pleasant enough time. Sufficiently so to visit regularly. And yes, even well-behaved dogs. 

Perhaps Ms Riddell-Carpenter is just another nasty socialist bitch.

I don’t have a Christianity membership badge, but even I find this cack-handed contrivance wearying. The assumption that bargain-bin horseshit is good enough to persuade is a little insulting. Some people really should be slapped every time they open their mouths. And even when they say ow.

Some grumbling as the occupation continues apace.

The video shows a crowded scene at Masala Bazaar, a private South Asian/halal supermarket in Chadwell Heath, near Romford. It was filmed during the store’s third-anniversary “power hour” giveaway of free cooking oil, meat, fish and other items. Staff created two queues across a freezer aisle for crowd control. People largely lined up men on one side and women (many in hijabs or other traditional dress, often with children) on the other.

The manager and staff said they told people to form lines but did not instruct anyone to separate by sex. “People automatically started queuing with the men on one side and the women on the other.” They described it as a brief, chaotic response to overcrowding that lasted about a minute before mixing resumed.

This is a specialist store whose regular customers are largely from the South Asian/Muslim community it serves. The people in the queues are the store’s typical clientele, not random shoppers being compelled to follow “Islamist migrant rules.”

Other videos from the same store on different days show men and women mixing freely while shopping.

Cultural or religious preference for avoiding close mixing of unrelated men and women in crowds is common in some conservative Muslim communities, and it happened here without the store having to order it.

So not quite what it seems. Though whether the additional context results in any great swell of multicultural optimism, I leave to the reader.
