Oh, and while I have your attention, today is this blog’s seventeenth birthday. Yes, seventeen chuffing years. Which is a pretty good excuse to remind patrons that this rickety barge is kept afloat by the kindness of strangers. If you’d like to help it remain buoyant a while longer, and remain ad-free, there are three buttons below the fold with which to monetise any love. Debit and credit cards are accepted.
If one-click haste is called for, there’s a QR code in the sidebar, at which you point your phone, and my PayPal.Me page can be found here. As requested, I’ve added SubscribeStar and Ko-Fi accounts, via which love may also be monetised, whether as one-off donations or monthly subscriptions.
Additionally, any Amazon UK shopping done via this link, or for Amazon US via this link, or via the buttons in the sidebar, results in a small fee for your host at no extra cost to you. Feel free to buy things wildly and in bulk.
For newcomers wishing to know more about what’s been going on here for the last seventeen years, in over 3,000 posts and 200,000 comments, the reheated series is a pretty good place to start – in particular, the end-of-year summaries, which convey the fullest flavour of what it is we do. A sort of blog concentrate. If you like what you find there… well, there’s lots more of that.
Do take a moment to poke through the discussion threads too. The posts are intended as starting points, not full stops, and the comments are where much of the good stuff is waiting to be found. And do please join in.
As always, thanks for the support, the comments, and the company.
Oh yes. The buttons:
Karl’s comment about child-grooming sex pests was fully justified. These are very bad people.
This should balance out all those jibes at English food.
The sun was in your eyes. I saw it. You’re good.
I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords
So grocery shopping just now and saw a man holding a sign reading “Homeless. Please help”. So I rolled down the window and told him that he’s not going to get much with that sign. It is likely to offend people on the left. The new, proper term is “unhoused”, but “unsheltered” will also work. He didn’t seem very appreciative but he was the one asking for help. What have you done for your fellow man today? Probably less than that.
Also, don’t want David going unpinged so…shortly anyway…
Also, re children and voting…I recall a former co-worker from Hungary telling me shortly after the fall of the Iron Curtain that Hungary was considering giving extra votes to each head of household for each child therein. This idea was coming from the conservative party, whatever it was called, as a hedge against communism being voted back into power because those having larger families were more anti-communist.
Damn Florida! They are KILLING trans people!
These are the consequences of making “trans” people out (cleans screen) their actual sex on a drivers license.
It is a genocide of extraordinary magnitude.
“Be cool!” yells the thug to shocked bystanders, after he punches a random woman.
What would be cool would be for the bystanders to beat him with 2×4’s.
Also cool: Refusing to give aid to liberals who protect these thugs.
Musical interlude.
Charles Murray: The book Hidden Figures had a lot of factual problems. The film was wholly untethered from reality.
In spite of the extreme liberties that were taken, I did know supposed conservatives and libertarians (and lots of politically naive science nerds) who approved of the lies–because it was “lying in a good cause”. The problems with such lies are left as an exercise for the reader.
You meet the nicest people flying Spirit Airlines.
Liberals are subsidizing this evil lunacy.
Heh. My sister-in-law says it doesn’t matter. Truth/reality is irrelevant to how people should feel about the story. That’s the most important part. The feelz. She feels sorry for me that I cannot accept that. Our recent visit together didn’t go very smoothly but I at least did get her to admit that Trump didn’t tell anyone to drink bleach. Her husband, the “conservative” Republican voter of the pair actually ran away from the table where we were dining and down the street. He was an Eagle Scout, donchaknow. This is America in the 21st century.
I hate that song.

Indeed, who doesn’t remember Katherine Johnson von Braun.
I was just thinking I haven’t seen Ceiling Cat in a bit.
Bless you, sir. May you always have a spare six-socket extension cable.
Well, as noted in the linked posts, there’s a kind of weird coyness, an air of things unsaid. And a preoccupation with supposedly liberating children from the care and authority of their parents – and introducing a wedge between them – does tend to raise an eyebrow.
An irony being that children and teenagers tend to be quite selfish and self-absorbed, to a degree unbecoming in adults, and are typically accustomed to free stuff, all paid for out of sight by someone else, much to the youngsters’ indifference. It would therefore hardly be surprising if voting children tended to favour policies that pile up unsustainable debt, all left for whatever generations follow them.
Apparently, this constitutes “planning for the future.” According to the Head of Politics at Cambridge University.
The flimsiness and incoherence of the arguments on offer may be a function of the proponents not being entirely honest about their motives. And so, we get creaky rationalisations for an absurd idea, and an obviously false premise, because being honest about one’s motives and saying, “We’re counting on the credulity of children to advance our own childish ideas” may still sound a tad suspect. At least among much of the general public.
Did you find that the personalized drum set improved it?
How about this rendition of another well known song?
You have our gratitude.
This, among other things, led me to regard them as untrustworthy: If they openly support lying, how can I know when they are telling the truth? How can I trust anything they tell me? And what are the other consequences of associating with, well, toxic persons?
Which is, of course, another reminder to question the moral state of academia and reconsider its proper place in society.
More of this, please: “If someone is breaking into your house you’re more than welcome to shoot them in Santa Rosa County. We’d prefer that you do, actually.“
That.
Show us your moves, Gaige.
Mr. Bean is up to more hijinks, that scalawag.
I’m appalled at the state of that frying pan. Doesn’t she know how to treat cast iron?
This was a real issue in Minneapolis about 2 years ago. Never would have expected it.
Tony Blair’s ‘reforms’ of the House of Lords have devolved into a Monty Python sketch.
And in alternative lifestyle news:
I know, I know. You’re itching to join them.
“The testing center already knows us by name.”
Itching isn’t the half of it.
Collectively I doubt they could check the air pressure on a tire, so good luck with that.
This is why the drink-bleach thing is the starting point for any serious discussion. I am open to seriously discuss issues but first we must understand how this clearly objective truth has been manipulated into a lie. Don’t tell me it’s silly and irrelevant, don’t tell me “gee, I don’t know”, don’t accuse me of trying to distract from the bigger issues. It’s not a matter of any degree of subjectivity relative to any of the other numerous hoaxes. We start from there. I have yet to get past that first question with anyone. It’s either they insist that Trump did say it or they pretend it’s irrelevant or that they never heard that he had supposedly said it. Lately the excuse is, “That was years ago. Who remembers that stuff?”
Short answer, no, and who the hell were they supposed to be fleeing from?
Irony can be pretty ironic.
Powerline does not allow linking to images, only to posts.
An angel with a flaming sword, saying “Don’t come back until you’ve seen a shrink”?
From the link:
With that sort of slippery rhetoric one can use “diversity” to justify support for anything at all.
The author describes himself as a “Modern Orthodox pluralistic rabbi”. Of course.
Works for me on a different machine, but try this one.
I blame the Link-O-Matic 9000™ which is also responsible for EVs spontaneously combusting,
Hidden figures: the consequence of making heroes out of whole cloth (in the movie, Harvard president, supreme court justice Jackson, etc) is that at least many if not all people see through it. It taints any real heroes. If one is made up what about the others? The habit of lying is of course perverse as well.
[ From the cellar, muttering. ]
The error:
Seems pretty clearly an issue with how that blog is programmed.
So, not the fault of the Link-O-Matic 9000™. Which works well for me.
So you were linking to this image in Powerline’s “Week in Pictures Dementia Joe” post:

Hey, not my fault Worstpress hired polyamorous Gen Z code monkeys who believe they have skills to survive an apocalypse.
They forge their coding in the spirit of Microsoft and are building bloated code of extraordinary magnitude.
So, not the fault of the Link-O-Matic 9000™…
It is clear you in league with Big Code Monkeys, or the Link-O-Matic 9000™ has implanted an obedience chip in your noggin.
I advise you to run a strong magnet over your head – an MRI will do just fine.
Band name.
Ping!
Bless you, sir. When belatedly watching a documentary about H.G. Wells, one saved some months earlier, may you not find that the narrator pronounces ‘aitch’ with an ‘H’.
Or they have bribed me.

Remember this from 2 years ago? An ACLU attorney vowed to suppress a book.
Wikipedia says he is still with the ACLU. Not fired for clear opposition to the ACLU’s purported purpose. At one time I held the ACLU in high esteem. Was much younger.
True.
Ah, the chronic fantasist Chase Strangio, a moustachioed dysmorphic woman who insists that, with regard to sexually dysmorphic people, any acknowledgement of physical reality – terms such as “anatomically male,” “male genitals,” etc – are “both factually wrong and dangerous.”
The same moustachioed woman who claims to be “systemically oppressed” by the fact that she occasionally receives mail using her original, i.e., female, name, the mere sight of which supposedly renders her traumatised and “afraid to check my mail,” thereby resulting in unpaid bills and a poor credit score.
As promised, Ping, good Sir, and may your blog have many more happy birthdays.
Bless you, madam. May setting up your new phone be a swift and effortless process.
Well of course he was.
May setting up your new phone be a swift and effortless process.
This is rather prescient, as my current phone is so old and outdated that various apps no longer work, most recently the email, which I am finding a bit inconvenient. There may be a newer version of phone in my future.
[ Puts on white cotton gloves. Positions new phone on satin cushion, strokes it. ]
Ooh yeah, right there, don’t stop.

I already support the law. You don’t have to keep selling me on it.

My observation is that polyamorous groups are usually composed of the people you would least want to have sex with, but, honestly the two-toned blonde/redhead is kind of pretty. Why would she want to insert herself into that bunch of freaks?
I’m voting “daddy issues.”
This Adjunct Assistant Professor of Medical Education in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science sure seems like an erudite, well balanced fellow.
I’m voting “daddy issues.”
I’m guessing she’s the fulcrum in the relationships, the pressure point for most of the conflict…and she loves it. Why settle for fucking up one relationship when when you can take down six.
Somewhat related, “Imagine they’re embracing you instead of that other tramp.”
I paraphrase, but only just.
“Who are we to judge and discriminate?”
More vocabulary than I wanted to know:
Damaged people and people who damage people.
It’s painful to recall the “you mustn’t judge” culture of the 60’s and onward.
But it’s hard to believe the people who run the children’s play center did not realize that this was a fetish and kink event. Can anyone be so naive?
A funny prank:
Even funnier: Take multiple people.
Can anyone be so naive?
They weren’t, they had a “no pooping in your diapers” and a “no sexy time” rule so they knew exactly what was happening.
Also in the world of “It’s going to get worse, isn’t it”, the Guardian informs us a mistake was made.
I was guessing drugs, but another source indicates subnormal intelligence.
It’s hard to imagine choosing to live under such self-imposed desperation, shame, and need for affirmation. It’s not enough to have an unusual set of sexual desires. Then you have to change your sex. And it’s not enough to change your sex. You also have to change your religion. And then you change your religion to that which is most antithetical to your life choices. I’m trying to think of where this poor slob goes from here.
Ask Elon about this. (found via Dicentra)
That. Why, it’s almost a clue.
Or, Mentally ill man who kept his severed, rotting testicles in the fridge, “next to the eggs,” is mentally ill.
Tell me again how this ilk isn’t after removing all age barriers to sex.
So often we see “partner” to designate the romantic other. Not “boyfriend” or “husband” or “fiance”. So it is a not-very-serious relationship. Why do people put up with that? In my day (there i said it) if the person you were dating said they were not planning to marry, it led to a breakup–because what is the point of wasting limited time on someone not serious?
From what I’ve read, Islam, at least as practised in Iran, doesn’t have an issue with transsexuals.
The Dutch version of Soylent Green
Well without the crackers wouldn’t it be more the Dutch version of suttee?
A funny caption.
Seems fair.
Not your usual Valentine’s Day poem.
Wouldn’t be the first time for them:
IYKYK…
Going on a bit of a rant here….This is probably going to upset some people, but my GOD does this need to be said…
I’m a man and a human being (apparently you need to say both) and as both of those things – I’m disappointed in so many people who think that “not being a fan” of someone means you intend to crap all over them…
FFS, forget it. Women are bloody idiots. Not just, or even specifically Taylor Swift. She can’t sing live for $**t but at least she’s easy on the eyes. And her recorded music tunes aren’t as bloody annoying as a lot of other pop “artists”. Hell, she’s not as bad as Journey or REO Speedwagon. Aside from that I don’t know or care much about her. But bloody hell I’m tired of women inferring or implying that any mere suggestion, even when prompted, that maybe, just maaaaybe the constant Tay-Tay OMGOMGOMG worship is just a wee bit tiresome is something that needs to be corrected. The women of Western civilization need to get off their bloody high horses about G-D near every bloody thing. Nobody hates women like women hate women. Women will force other women, even their daughters to shower with biological men. They are the main drivers of the sexual mutilation of young boys and girls. They, along with the weak idiot men who are too chicken sh*t to stand up to them, which is probably 80% of men, are the main drivers of most of the pain and misery in this world.
Well, ok. Except that one. Though I might add that women seem to like liver more so than men. Or so has been my observation.
“I hate liver, liver makes me quiver, liver makes curl right up and die….”
Why is Australia upside-down on that map?
Grok.
It’s right side up if you’re in Australia.
How much for a year of manly respect?

The looming French cheese crisis.
That’s moldy French cheese, so Wallace and Grommet can sleep easy.
Still no Wensleydale found within 10 miles of here. (Okay, you’ve got over 200 kinds of cheese, but they’re all just different varieties of a dozen some types. Ya bastads.)
Probably to disorient all the deadly critters there.
Congratulations on 17 years. Token of appreciation on its way.
Bless you, sir. May your enemies forget at least one thing on their shopping lists. Ideally, whatever it was that prompted the list in the first place.
And again, thanks to all who’ve chipped in so far, or subscribed, or done shopping via the Amazon links, including all those much too shy to say hello. It’s much appreciated and is what keeps this place here.
And this place being here is, I think, a good thing.
This just seems to complicate matters.
Today’s word is symbolism:
Theodore Dalrymple, quoted here.
Remember the Japanese restaurants where sushi was served on the naked body of a young woman? It’s all creepy, but now the boys are getting used too.
Helen Joyce on “hermetically sealed nonsense.”
