engine failure…
I had this hammered in to my flight brain: Aviate, Navigate, Communicate. In that order.
This kid did it almost perfectly – he’s too chatty with the tower, and does not declare an emergency (not that it would have made any difference since he had no air traffic issues). Squawking the wrong code was amusing but harmless. Most important, he rapidly picked a great place to aim, preserving a couple of options on the way.
I used to fly a Cherokee out of Palo Alto CA. In that same plane, my instructor had the main engine oil seal blow out right over San Francisco International. Landed there safely among the big jets. Some weeks prior I had rejected that plane during preflight checks because of a suspicious drop of fresh oil on an engine head bolt. I suspect the maintenance effed up when they “fixed” that problem.
Fiddlesome filing.
[ Opens notebook. Writes “Do not hire David when my bookshop reopens.” ]
And finally, the lamp you’ve been itching to get your hands on.
[ Opens notebook. Writes “Suspected deviant.” Orders crate of notebooks from Amazon. ]
Assorted vintage ray-guns.
Those old ray guns had a certain style.
Salvage operation.
From that same twitter feed: Elephant paints elephant. I had only previously seen Elephants do abstract paintings, not representational ones!
And finally, the lamp you’ve been itching to get your hands on.
Cross it with a lava lamp and you might have something.
I am starting to think that we shouldn’t worry about making educators feel bad.

Maybe she could learn to speak in unbroken sentences
The California retail experience.
Can someone from California explain how they know that what is being taken is less than $950? Also, is it $950 per day, per visit, per store? Asking for a friend.
I suspect it is $950 per robbery incident. A relatively careful robber would only hit a given place once a day at the most.
Of course, it would be quite funny if the bystanders robbed the robbers and returned the loot to the store.
I’m not from California, but I can certainly think of a secondary robbery market once the original thieves leave what the surveillance cameras that watch the parking lot can see.
Morning, all.
I am starting to think that we shouldn’t worry about making educators feel bad.
The speaker – the one having trouble finishing sentences or linking them together – is Dr Jennifer Harvey. She’s a professor of religion at Drake University. Her preoccupations include “race, gender, activism, politics, spirituality, justice.”
Apparently, she has a Ph.D. in Christian social ethics.
And so, her “goal” is to make white children feel “guilt.” For being white.
I am starting to think that we shouldn’t worry about making educators

FTFY
As noted here more than once, the proponents of these policies – essentially, psychological abuse – do not acknowledge any error on their part, even when the consequences of their ambitions are predictably dire, and obviously and vividly disastrous in practice, and disastrous in practice over and over again. Instead, they double down and lie, and denounce those who dare object as “racists” and “white supremacists.” Even if those objecting happen to have brown skin.
One should therefore not assume that these are people who mean well.
the lamp you’ve been itching to get your hands on. Only £3,500.

I can’t seem to open the ‘ | I wonder why no-one wants to read woke Iron Man comics.’ link..? It appears to link back to the main page here…

I see you’re interested, madam. I’ll put you down for two.

It works fine for me. How many margueritas did you have for breakfast?
The painted knees of flapper girls.
I learned something today.
Only £3,500
I understand that in order to prevent the lamp unexpectedly going off, you can purchase an optional “retaining” ring to hold down the, er, casing.
£500.

Bet this required some creative graphic design solutions to squeeze onto her business cards:
In 2003 and 2004 I served as an anti-lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender violence prevention educator in New York City public schools.
I found that in the introduction to a 2007 book Harvey wrote. Also this:
This book … takes as its subject the relationship of white people to white supremacy and seeks to scrutinize them (us). For, indeed, in a society in which the machinations of racism are everywhere, white people are the problem. Said differently, racism is a white problem. People who were white created white supremacy and people who are white sustain it. Our actions, attitudes, and ways of being subvert justice, cross-racial solidarity, and reconciliation. More insidiously, we benefit profusely from the prevalence of racial injustice, even as we are spiritually, psychologically, and morally malformed by it.
I can certainly think of someone who is “spiritually, psychologically, and morally malformed” though her use of “we” there is just a tad presumptuous.
This isn’t racism as some kind of rhetorical ironic gesture.
It’s just racism.
I can certainly think of someone who is “spiritually, psychologically, and morally malformed” though her use of “we” there is just a tad presumptuous.
In case it needs saying, it’s rather important that these damaged people, who evidently wish to damage others, should have no influence whatsoever over children, or over those employed to educate them.
And yet, here we are.
An educator speaks.
As I’ve opined before – the primary conceit of un-Critically Racist Theory is that there is such a thing as “good” racism.
There isn’t.
Elephant paints elephant
Phffft, that elephant isn’t a very good drawer, even *I* can do better than that.
Stupid elephant.

It’s strange how small, unspoken details convey the drama unfolding – for instance, when his hand shakes a little. As well it might, of course. What with the ground approaching rapidly.

Jennifer Harvey PhD:
We don’t wanna induce shame…
That’s big of you, Jennifer. What a total bitch.

If you think of ostentatious wokeness as a kind of camouflage, an attempt to mask unsavoury, even sociopathic, motives, while gleefully indulging them, you won’t go far wrong.
Glass Octopus
Is it just me wanting to see it do a poo?
unsavoury, even sociopathic, motives…
The most disturbing thing is the reaction to her pronouncements (or lack of it) from her audience.
Harvey is saying that she wants to hurt children’s feelings, but only those whose feelings have not already been hurt enough. How will she know which children deserve such treatment? She’ll identify them by skin colour (because such practices have always gone so well). But she adds, generously, that she won’t be too cruel.
Any group of normal, decent people hearing someone speak in this way would respond with jeers and mockery. Are we to assume that those assembled silently in the room with Harvey are as creepy and malevolent as she is?

Clue.

I knew there was something missing. [ Adds to shopping list ]

Nominally Christian. Solidly Marxist. More than slightly Satanic.

Just a glance at her face is disturbing.

I rather enjoyed meeting the natives and witnessing their quaint folkways.
I wouldn’t call the police if they offered me a bevvy.

What made it for me (as a former military fighter aviator) and made me giggle hysterically for about 5 minutes were his two restrained but heartfelt words as the aircraft came to a stop “Holy Shit”
Yeah…the elephant drawing thing…umm…deep fake anyone?…Anyone?…Bueller?…
because an Echo doesn’t understand an accent.
Because NOBODY should have ANYTHING ANYWHERE in the WORLD until absolutely EVERYONE EVERYWHERE can have that EXACT SAME THING working PERFECTLY for EVERY SINGLE ONE OF US. Anything less is infintyisms. Just so you understand. This rule has been bloody obvious for decades, generations even. It’s about damn time you evil fascists understood this.
Archimedes: didn’t have a Nigerian in the lab.
Isaac Newton: didn’t have a Nigerian in the lab.
Thomas Edison: didn’t have a Nigerian in the lab.
And evidently Google and Apple managed to get as far as they’ve got without many Nigerians in the lab.
Evidence of your people’s failure to make much of a contribution to the modern civilized world? No, it’s evidence of a moral taint on the entire history of science.
The joke’s on you. Archimedes, Newton, and Edison were all Nigerians. Any proof otherwise is just further example of the systemic racism of our society. Prove me wrong. Go ahead. I dare you.
And patriarchy. I forgot to mention patriarchy. You people banging on and on about this gender crap. It’s all a right wing conspiracy to discredit LGBTI.

Lies. All lies that you are spreading to discredit the LGBTI community. Whatever the ‘I’ stands for….

RE the elephant – absolutely amazing if true. Though it won’t stop me from eating them thankyouverymuch.
What?
