LOL
It’s the note of triumph towards the end.
Yeah, so I had it right all along! Bastards.
“Boi-toigle-goidle-doi-goi-loize.”
I’d have gone with bay-tel-gerz, but that doesn’t seem very fashionable. Parodies aside, the whole thing’s a bit of a shambles anyway. Wasn’t the word mis-transcribed from Arabic in the first place, even before the recent beetle-juice mangling?
“bointoilgoloise… uh, boitoigel goidel doi goiloise…. boitoigol goilod”
Not that I give a hoot about the super bowl, but we can probably make book on when the San Francisco defeat will be blamed on misogyny, homophobia, and Teh Patriarchy™ because one of their assistant coaches is a lesbian.
From wiki:
The traditional name Betelgeuse is derived from either the Arabic إبط الجوزاء Ibṭ al-Jauzā’, meaning “the armpit of Orion”
I wonder if they know?
Speaking of matters cosmic, has anyone been watching Star Trek: Picard?

Yup. In two minds about it so far…
because one of their assistant coaches is a lesbian.
OK…because I’m bored and waiting on a coworker…As has been our thing for a while, wife and I spent the day yesterday at an art festival. Such things generally attract the leftist types and etc., but didn’t even encounter so much as a snowflake even when I lit my cigar. Enjoyed a beautiful day. Outside the festival area, quietly behaving themselves was a Lizzie Warren group, but that was about it. When we got home, wife wanted to watch the entertainment parts of the (formerly) Big Game. The national anthem and halftime parts. So I was like, OK I’m good with it until they shove some political or PC crap in my face. The VERY FIRST commercial after the national anthem, etc. showed some football players in powder blue uniforms lining up for what looked like a field goal attempt, but you couldn’t see their faces. Not 0.5 seconds into this thing and I said to my wife, “The kicker is a girl”. She rolled her eyes and started to give me crap about how I was being the political one. Sure enough, it’s a commercial for women’s deodorant and not only was the kicker a woman, but the whole football team reveals themselves as women. Because of course.
Yup. In two minds about it so far…
For some reason, they’ve decided to release the series weekly, rather than making the whole thing available at once and thereby binge-able. And as I’ve only seen the first two episodes, it’s hard to say much.
So far, it’s not as terrible as I feared – it’s not as awful as Discovery – and Patrick Stewart’s own leftist grandstanding hasn’t yet materialised in the script, at least not to an extent that’s wildly aggravating. Some of the writing is wobbly, though, and some of the dialogue is incongruously contemporary, and neither Dahj nor Emo-Romulan guy are entirely convincing. Also, Starfleet seems staffed almost exclusively by hard-faced women. And I’m not sure why Picard’s Romulan housekeeper, an alien from Romulus, has a fairly heavy Oirish accent. (At times, she seems inches away from saying, “Top ‘o the morning’, admiral.”)
Watchmen: I thought they were doing OK with this (I especially enjoyed the “origins” sequences) until about half-way through episode 8 whereupon the whole thing veered off the left side of the road into that wretched swamp of Woke Hokum, ending up half-submerged somewhere near the wreck of Dr. Who.
I suppose the signs were there from the beginning and it was just wishful thinking on my part; anyway, as the main show-runner has left we will thankfully be spared a sequel and so we should be grateful for small mercies.

I saw a couple of reviews and the words “white supremacy,” and decided my time could be better spent checking for loose buttons.

My consumption of all things Trek is limited to letting it filter through Mike and Rich of RLM: https://youtu.be/hfQdf93e63I
“The kicker is a girl”
Back in the day I happened to be at one of my high school’s home games when our team played against a town that had let a girl pass muster to play with the boys. There was a definite undercurrent in the crowd of hoping the opponents never put her in a position to either tackle or be tackled. No one wanted to see a female get rag dolled by a member of our team, nor watch some slapstick attempt to half-ass bring her down without hurting her.
It occurred to me at the time that this dynamic might have been seen as advantageous by the other team’s coaches.

That’s a bold use of denim.
letting it filter through Mike and Rich of RLM
It’s fun watching Mike and Rich giving this more thought than the writers apparently did.

Just got to the ‘hipster assassins using ether’ bit.

Where I live that’s known as a Canadian Tuxedo.

Well, one of us is going to have to get changed.
Yes, but who ?
Heh. It’s an outrage.

”post Brexit Britain”
I have heard that:
(1) Gibraltar voted heavily to remain in the EU, which might alienate it from Britain?
(2) on the other hand, the EU is favoring Spain’s claim asserting sovereignty over Gibraltar, which might alienate Gibraltar from the EU.
From far across the pond it’s hard to tell what the situation really is.
…a Trump supporting drag queen…
You mean Giuliani?

Build a wall around San Francisco and declare the entire city a mental institution.
There’s a proposed amendment for that.

“Canadian Tuxedo.”
Well, Rich and Mike are almost Canadians, being in Wisconsin and all.
Of the RLM crew Rich is easily the most famous in matters of fashion:

Okay, where’s my credit note? I truly believed this thread was about this guy. Who appears to have/not have won tonight’s caucasus.
Betelgeuse, eh? You want culture with that?

Warning: 20th century classical music on other side of this link.
How to pronounce Betelgeuse.
Oh. Is that all?
One look at the header and the immediate thought was Oh, Dear, who turned up at the front door this time???
OK, they didn’t go for the sexism/homophobia angle, but the Chief’s win was obviously racist.
Oh, for goodness sake, not another Star Trek film. When will they kill off this modern, wokist, version of ‘Wagon Train”? I suppose the next one will be “Ant and Dec meet the Klingons”.
Speaking of matters cosmic, has anyone been watching Star Trek: Picard?
I was hoping there was going to be a crossover between Star Trek and Star Wars where the Gamorreans showed up in Star Trek uniforms so we could have Star Trek: Pig Guard….
I favor “Star Trek: Disregard” because the ideas have been mined out and it’s gotten rather boring.
Also: Fan Service is annoying.
If the gentleman from Indiana becomes president, he would be well advised to change his name to President Pete.
…it’s gotten rather boring.
Oh, for the heady days when the half-black-on-the-left guy wanted to kill the half-black-on-the-right guy. Turns out that episode was actually a very sophisticated and subtle commentary on contemporary race relations…
Oh, for the heady days when the half-black-on-the-left guy wanted to kill the half-black-on-the-right guy.
Yeah. I should have also said that a big reason why I loved it when it first ran was that I was a mere child. Trying to watch those shows now is a very different matter.
It was only after I watched a re-run of The A-Team that I realized the magnitude of the sacrifices my father made when I was a boy. How he sat through an episode (while half-sober!) with my brother and I every week — well, words fail me.
RIP Kirk Douglas. 103 years old – what a life.

What about Uranus?
Oh, for the heady days when the half-black-on-the-left guy wanted to kill the half-black-on-the-right guy.
Whilst not forgetting that the half-black-on-the-right guy also wanted to kill the half-black-on-the-left guy with equal vigour.
The unfortunate all white and black guys were stuck in the middle.

Hey, that was damn good TV for the 1980’s. Helicopters would crash into the side of a mountain and the bad guys would come stumbling out, coughing, unarmed and surrender. Once you understood that it was Murdock who was the real brains behind the whole operation, it made a lot more sense. Well that and a few beers.
What about Uranus?
NASA has sent probes. None has been heard from since entering its gravitational pull.
