I don’t think it’s necessarily a question of stupidity, though it may be. But to import people, adults, whose culture and experience are such that they apparently struggle with the notion of electricity seems… problematic.

No, but there is one for female genital mutilation and how many arrests have been made despite the thousands (10s of thousands?) of diverse girls it’s been inflicted upon. I think I recall possibly one?
It reminds me of a case in California where the news was up in arms after a necrophiliac was let go without charge having been found in flagrante delicto with a… well, you know. The prosecutor said it had never occurred to anyone that there wasn’t a law against it because, presumably, they didn’t consider it a possibility. That situation’s been rectified and the next guy’s going to get the book thrown at him, or a fine, I forget what the penalty was in the end.

I agree that had he been caught in the act so to speak it may not have gone well for the potential good Samaritan. However, in today’s ‘elf ‘n safety world I foresee another problem. Suppose he explains the usage of electricity to the landscaper but forgets to mention using a ground fault interrupter? I have no doubt her eventual electrocution when she inevitably runs over the cord (come on, you know that’s almost a certainty) will be placed at his feet and he’ll wish he’d stayed home and just put her on YouTube.

Better to release the pressure by mentioning the origins in a softpedaled way, and then change the subject to how we must all educate ourselves blah blah blah in our communities.
