Friday Ephemera
Intrigue of the day. (h/t, Obo) // Interspecies smackdown. // Yes, but it all seems a bit unnecessary. // Domino physics. // Fly guy. // Infinite string quartet. Drag, drop and listen. // Dronestagram. // Among giants. // No Stick Shooter is a game. Things may get a little fraught. // A museum of vintage hi-fi. // If they learn to make fire, we’re totally screwed. // Assorted French textile samples, 1863. // At last, LED eyelashes for maximum fabulousness. // Meanwhile, in Japan. (h/t, Damian) // 5000-piece, 5000-colour jigsaw of note. // Passing Jupiter. // Just “a leg or two.” // Learning curve. (h/t, Old Holborn) // A 12-year-old ventriloquist. // Always respect the media. // And finally, exhaustingly, “When I’m relaxed and chillin’ I can go up to ten, twenty minutes without ticcing.”
Yes, It’s The Benny Hill Show!!!
Oops.
“What is it, after all, that these new free speech warriors are so anxious to be allowed to say, and why, when the microphones are finally shoved in front of their mouths, when they have the attention they crave, won’t they say it?”
Read the whole thing. It’s a variation of the old “supporting nazis’ right to free speech is about the first two words: supporting nazis”. The accusation is that anyone who wants people to have the right to say ugly or racist things therefore it must be because really want to say those ugly or racist things but are too cowardly to speak for themselves. It disparages people she disagrees while allowing her to flatter herself so it must be true.
why all administrators aren’t doing this is a bit of a mystery
competitive radical posturing?
Not her best look, I’ll grant you, David.
Yet sadly, not her worst…
another one from the go-to site:
“That’s what I want to talk about today: how white supremacy and oppression manifest themselves in mainstream animal rights organizing/ideologies — and what we can all do to challenge that.”

Hasn’t the author of this bit of outrage made an appearance on these pages before? (H/T Instapuneit) Ah, yes. Here we are.
I read through the litany of her alleged travails at the hands of white women and can’t help wondering how much of her personal drama is a) fabricated, or b) embellished significantly if not fabricated or c) results from some sort of paranoid psychosis? And BTW, for all the vitriol against white women, she herself looks like an average Indo-European. That “Indo” part is in there for a reason, I surmise.
After reading that, R. Sherman, I saw another, to me more likely, explanation. She created the scenario by purposely intruding on another woman’s space. This being yoga and women and such, there’s much more likely to be a higher concentration of the easily aggrieved and thus much easier opportunities for creating the situations that are grist for such essays. But I suppose that’s just my own prejudices showing. Of course.
Quick note:
Just saw “Wonder Woman” … Seriously, it is a very good movie with, surprising for a superhero summer blockbuster, excellent acting. There IS a story, good dialogue, character development and, yes, while the special effects are damned good they are NOT the center of attraction.
(an aside: Chris Pine has really developed as an actor… not just a pretty face).
R Sherman, my wife is white and Jewish and looks darker and more “exotic” (by the writer’s standards) than that writer. The whole article is pure paranoia.
Everyday feminism has taken a break from haranguing white people for being racist to encourage them to pay up to learn how to be allies.
They are really selling it too:
You may be finding yourself coming to terms with just how prevalent and harmful white supremacy is – and how your white privilege has kept you ignorant and in denial of this reality in the first place.
I can’t wait to hang out with people who will be telling me that.
Interestingly you can get right up to the payment page without them telling you who teaches it, where it is taught, whether it is online or anything else. I find it fascinating that they can see inside my soul but are unable to follow the “what, when, where ” basics of event management.

Ah, yes. Here we are.
Based on her writing and social media, Ms Mirza seems to be a profoundly charmless woman. That she claims to work as a counsellor, while telling us she cuts herself, is the icing on a very sour and nasty cake.
I can’t wait to hang out with people who will be telling me that.
The ladies’ “Healing from Toxic Whiteness” seminar was poked through here.
That she claims to work as a counsellor, while telling us she cuts herself,
Heh. Knock me over with a feather.
Oh, dear, here we go again . . . .
“Passing Jupiter”
Sounds painful.
