Friday Ephemera
Gravity is a cruel mistress. // The abandoned sofas of Los Angeles. // Lynda Carter lets rip. // A momentary rabbit. // “I love you, robot.” // At last, robotic tentacles. What could possibly go wrong? // His black paint is blacker than yours. // If only your children had been this well-behaved. (h/t, Damian) // Puppies versus couches, the oldest battle. // Dog Botox. // “Don’t do anything stupid.” // Punk in 60 seconds. // 24 seconds of frog cell division. // On zed versus zee. // Typing breakthroughs of yore. // Baked potato. // He has more baby pandas than you do. // How to build an impractical clock. // An archive of Japanese animation. // Melting and unmelting. // Attention, Western feminists. // Beat box. // And finally, foxily, and armed with ample duct tape, a beat box babe.
At least Americans have the good sense to pronounce R’s where they are on the page, and not move them around. :-p
Black Paint Matters
The tweet re Western feminists appears to have disappeared already. I’m guessing it was WrongThink though, so probably just as well.
It’s just as well. I’ve got the latest version of Firefox, and still can’t get Twitter videos to play.
Zed’s dead, baby. Zed’s dead.

Have you ever noticed men never feel the need to compose songs like this?
“Attention, Western feminists.”
Needs commentary by Phil Drabble. Oh, if only dogs weren’t haram…
His black paint is blacker than yours.
Hmmm! ‘k, does anyone’s conscience need a bit of touching up?

But I’ve been assured that the niqab is a symbol of resistance to Donald Trump.

The degradations of Muhammadanism aren’t exactly unknown, but every once in a while some everyday behaviour, some casual grotesquery, gives you that Planet-of-the-Apes feeling.

Is there a glitch in the matrix?
I like that description of the video of the woman-beating Arab as a “confronting video”. Confronting who or what? The beliefs of Western Leftists?
The “Z/Zed” video was interesting except the narrator makes a classic historical mistake: He attributes the classic American dictionary to Daniel Webster instead of Noah Webster, the lexicographer. That ruins an otherwise instructive presentation.

I’m hypnotized by Lynda Carter letting rip.
I’m hypnotized by Lynda Carter letting rip.
She does veer towards Rachel Welch territory. And some of those outfits don’t seem entirely practical for everyday use.
“Have you ever noticed men never feel the need to compose songs like this?”
There does seem to be a helluva lot of affirmation-seeking from certain groups who claim to be powerful, assertive, confident, etc. And if they don’t get it, boy, you’re going to hear about it (likely in the most angry/whiny voice possible).
“We will compel you to say we are awesome!” just sounds so… needy, yet authoritarian.
“Attention, Western feminists.”
But that stick is smaller in diameter than his thumb, so it’s OK.
Have you ever noticed men never feel the need to compose songs like this?
Have you ever seen a haka?
I saw a documentary on that round black disk that showed its use in Toon Town.
I think Acme makes it.
I like how the punk video’s background music was what, a Strauss waltz? instead of actual punk.
</not_sarcasm>
instead of actual punk.
And now you’re feeling classier and more elevated. Not unlike visiting this blog, in fact.
What?
Have you ever seen a haka?
I’ve tried to convince my sons to bring the haka to their high school soccer team whose “away” uniforms are “all black.” Alas, the high school administration is not on board.
Pity.
“Teach men not to rape!”
Republican politician is scrupulous about not raping
OMG SHARIA MISOGYNY!

The latest Twitterfuffle is about (former Indiana governor and current VP) Mike Pence’s personal rules of conduct — never dine alone with a woman not his wife, never go to a party that serves alcohol unless his wife is there, don’t stay at the office late with female staffers — which of course equate (according to the Left) not to simple Prudence For Politicians but OMG HE THINKS ALL WOMEN ARE IRRESISTIBLE TEMPTRESSES and that his wife doesn’t trust him to control himself (because if they love each other that’s enough to prevent temptation) and OMG MEN AND WOMEN CAN TALK TO EACH OTHER WITHOUT JUMPING IN BED YOU SICK TWISTED FREAKS.
Quoth Insty:
Not to mention his rules are a good way to prevent any and all “He said/She said” accusations, to prevent romantic feelings from developing, and to keep gossip and blackmail at bay.
But no, it’s about making sure women cannot get promoted because they’re not working late and so would be perceived as slackers. Not that Pence appointed a woman as his lieutenant governor when he was guv of Indiana.
It’s as if half the country has never heard of propriety. Hell, as a single woman working with tons of married men, I also have personal rules against dining alone with them, going off together just to talk, and generally “avoiding the appearance of evil.”
Not because I’m afraid I’ll be raped (please) but because I don’t want to develop intimate feelings for someone I can’t have but still must work with, and also because neither of us would want that kind of gossip (however unfounded) floating around the workplace, and he especially doesn’t need such gossip getting back to his wife.
Not worth it on any level. And then there’s this thread from someone in Family Law:
Also on Twitter:
They’ll never hit bottom. There’s always a LOWER to go to.
So you drastically expand the definition of “sexual harassment,” and then promote an ethic that says that all accusations must be believed, and then you’re shocked that workplace men don’t want to hang out with women?
Heh. Quite. I haven’t followed the drama closely, but as I understand it, Pence was merely explaining his own choices, not stating a desire to impose them (somehow) on others.
The Pence “scandal” astounds me inasmuch as most professionals have taken precautions against any sort of appearance of impropriety for years. In my my jurisdiction, improper relationships with clients can lead to losing one’s law license. I’ve never had a single female client alone with me in my office without either the door open to the secretarial pool or my own secretary in the office taking notes, especially in divorce cases. Most pastors I know refuse to counsel women without such precautions. My wife’s doctor always has a female nurse in the examining room.
This is nothing new.
Decent men have always behaved this way.

Reminds one of the dynamic that allows that a modern liberated woman is deeply empowered and all that but apparently can’t operate either restraint or a condom while passively experiencing endless instances of victimizing not-consent consent.
Since I Am Woman sex is rape and liberation from pregnancy-malignancy is naturally Women’s Health.
Not that that’s news.
To be fair a related dynamic tips off with this,
We live in a backassward world, where ultimate commitment to a spouse is denigrated, and Bill Clinton and HRC celebrated. None of this means I’m sexist. It means I took my vows seriously.
The fact that this is ridiculed is a horrible photo of our society.
…and ends in countless rightists adopting a horndog mentality, tawdryfing and sensationalizing sex – I’m looking at Indy – and generally adopts a Darwinian, reductionistic view of man. Ergo, the ostensibly traditionalist, vaguely Christianist “conservative” whose preferences aren’t entirely removed from those of a cartooned Gene Simmons.
Yeah, we live in a backassward world, where ultimate commitment to a spouse is denigrated, if not directly, then by endless allusions and pop conventions.
Give the right 20 years and it’s the left.

Heh. Hard to argue with his assessment.
OMG SHARIA MISOGYNY!
The solution is obvious: import more Muslims! Because…um… … …I got nothin’.
In re: haka, there’s always this.
The robotic tentacles story reminds me of a short story by Robert Sheckley: “Can you Feel Anything when I do This?”
Interesting juxtaposition of the Saudi guardian and the “no decent man is alone with a female” as they are different manifestations of the same phenomena: women cannot be trusted.
I notice that “haka responses” seems to be an entire genre on YouTube, although it seems to reduce, more or less, to “what the hell is wrong with you people”.
women cannot be trusted
Were you even ALIVE for the Anita Hill thing?
Apparently I was, though I had to google her to find out who she is. Your point is?
When did dogs forget how to jump?
Your point is?
That Pence avoiding compromising situations is NOT predicated on the same assumptions about women as sharia segregation.
You call it two manifestations of the same phenomena when in reality the manifestations are only superficially similar, with the underlying premises being different.
