Their Interest In Children Is Not Benign
Because of my race, I can eat at a fancy restaurant without the wait staff expecting me to steal the silverware.
The psychological abuse of children by leftist educators continues:
The video of the 14-year-old student’s slam poem at his school has gone viral in the midst of heated national discussions regarding race and privilege. Performed at a slam poetry competition in May at The Paideia School in Atlanta, Royce Mann’s winning poem offers a reflection on the privilege he feels he has been automatically awarded as a result of his being white and male… Royce said that he knew about white and male privilege for most of his life, but never knew how prevalent it was in society until he attended a class called “Race, Class and Gender” that opened his eyes.
Because when a credulous 14-year-old is encouraged to declare that all white males are “scared of what it would be like if… I didn’t have my white boy privilege safety blankie,” this is now an aesthetic and political triumph. And when that same child says, “It is embarrassing that we still live in a world in which we judge another person’s character by… the colour of their skin,” while judging millions of people by the colour of their skin, and doing it proudly, this is something to applaud as both brave and insightful. Behold the makings of a morally corrected citizen.
The poem in question can be heard in full below:

There’s irony and then there’s irony.
There’s irony and then there’s irony.
The retweets of the CNN piece are, so far, largely approving. Apparently, it’s “awesome.” But if this were being done to a child of mine, or a child of someone I care about, I think I would be angry.
” Behold the makings of a morally corrected citizen.” – mais bien sur.
And he’ll probably never realise that his opinions aren’t the product of his own critical thinking (he won’t be capable of any) but of indoctrination and manipulation.
I just came here to post the link. Remember that there are institutions full of people who are supporting and enabling this behaviour.
I don’t know. It’s easy to be self-righteous and silly when you’re a kid, and part of the school experience is knowing that what you say is being judged and graded by others (the teachers). So of course you’re going to say stuff that gets approved of. In ten years the kid will be embarrassed by the video; in 50 years he’ll probably find it hilarious.
In ten years the kid will be embarrassed by the video;
Hopefully. But that is, I think, the most positive of possible scenarios. And I don’t think this is within the usual range of glib and cringeworthy pronouncements that might normally be expected of 14-year-old boys.
The sentiment expressed is elaborate and dogmatic, a rote regurgitation, one that’s encouraged and applauded by educators (and now in the media), and it entails the embrace of a mindset that’s not only unrealistic but quite pernicious. When children are indoctrinated at school to believe that they can only be virtuous, and be seen as virtuous, by cultivating pretentious racial guilt, and gender guilt, and ostentatious delusions of culpability, and that failing to signal this theatrical remorse is cowardly and wicked, an act of oppression, then I don’t think one should assume that the effects are entirely trivial or unobjectionable.
Or that those doing the encouraging are fit to be left unsupervised.
I have seen this same poem – or *almost* this same poem, with some further rhetorical flourishes – by a male poet of my acquaintance. But that’s a different case – where people practice their virtue signalling for years. But I’m generally more optimistic about the results of this education than you guys because I think the most teachers can ever hope for is that a small portion of what they teach will stay with kids. In the cases where you have teachers inculcating kids into an elaborate belief system, with all the language and ideology and rhetoric intact, in many cases the kids will grow up to laugh at the stupidity of their teachers. It takes a while. But they do grow out of it.
I hope you’re right.
This just confirms that the Lefts greatest achievement has been gaining control of the education systems of the US and the UK. Their economic and political failures in the real world simply don’t count: if they control education they control history.
It takes a while. But they do grow out of it.
Current events prove otherwise. If everyone grew out of it we wouldn’t be seeing this efflorescence of radical race politics in the first place.
Quite aside from the effect this is having on the child, think about the effect it is having on the groups mentioned in the poem — think about what it is like for, say, an Asian American child listening to a white boy who has been brow-beaten into apologizing for his race and sex.
In ten years the kid will be embarrassed by the video;
Ten years is a long time.

It takes a while. But they do grow out of it.
Yeah, count me among the skeptics as well. Not just to Jimmy’s point but also in that I know a few older people who are growing into this mentality. People in their 40’s and 50’s.
From a similar economic perspective, I’m sure there were people in Venezuela who thought it would never get as bad as it now is there. Once things reach a tipping point, and when a majority manages to elect an Obama or gives us a choice of a Clinton or a Trump we’re mighty f’n close, the only corrective measure is complete and utter failure. Whether that is of the salvageable kind like late 70’s UK or continues on into Venezuela territory depends on the maturity factor of the population. And thus we’re back to my 14-year-old middle age friends/associates.
It’s worth bearing in mind that variations of this mindset are reinforced continually throughout much of academia. And the longer the exposure, the more often this pernicious nonsense is repeated, the greater its effect seems to be.
It’s also worth remembering how variations of this worldview can shape education policy.
Royce Mann is a child actor, his parents are an actor and actress, his brother is an actor. Aside from his having been steeped in moonbattery from birth, this whole thing is way too staged not to have been a publicity stunt.
They are practicing Crimestop, as described in Orwell’s 1984:
“Crimestop means the faculty of stopping short, as though by instinct, at the threshold of any dangerous thought. It includes the power of not grasping analogies, of failing to perceive logical errors, of misunderstanding the simplest arguments if they are inimical to Ingsoc, and of being bored or repelled by any train of thought which is capable of leading in a heretical direction. Crimestop, in short, means protective stupidity.”
Young Royce is a future Inner Party leader.
“whole thing is way too staged”
Well, we are in the age of Reality Theatre, after all, where
manipulating via all means necessaryusing the court of public opinion to nudge authorities into making rule and law in your favour is all the rage. This is where I begin a twenty paragraph rant on the evils of public education, which I’ve watched deteriorate from both inside and out for the last thirty years here in the U.S. The only answer for parents who are truly concerned about their children is to remove them from the system. Today.
Of course, as David has noted here, the time is coming when that alternative will be forbidden, inasmuch as public education cannot abide alternatives outside the prescribed and approved indoctrination. Knowledge is unimportant. Compliance with the new orthodoxy is what is sought and desired. Anything which stands in its way will be destroyed, if for no other reason than alternatives to public education demonstrate that public schools are a fraud.
Meanwhile, in fashion news…
Because ostentatious racial disdain is the new black.
Stupid is the new smart!
Paideia is the private school of choice for Atlanta leftists. If this kid really wanted to eschew his white privilege he would stop attending a school that costs over 20K a year and enroll in an Atlanta public school. However, surviving there would be far harder than writing bad poetry and might jeopardize his future position among the elite.
Someone pass Heather a slice of cake.
yum! Thank you kindly.
However, surviving there would be far harder than writing bad poetry and might jeopardize his future position among the elite.
Unless his acting career goes better than that of his parents, he won’t have a place among the “elite”, and he is going to have to keep up his liberal minstrel show antics to keep being invited to the cool kids table.
Because of my race, I can eat at a fancy restaurant without the wait staff expecting me to steal the silverware.
Of course by “restaurant wait staff” he’s not meaning to suggest minority wait staff; he’s talking about fancy restaurants, and at the best places the staff are all…um…
Royce Mann’s winning poem offers a reflection on the privilege he feels he has been automatically awarded as a result of his being white and male
He still took the win for his poem, though. Yep, future elite.
It takes a while. But they do grow out of it.
When can we expect Laurie Penny to grow out of it?
He still took the win for his poem, though. Yep, future elite.
A pantomime of insincere self-abasement is a way to signal high social status. At least among leftists.
Teaching children to hate their own skin color and think that they deserve whatever violent attack they might suffer: that sounds rather like what the KKK and its friends tried to do.
There is hope, though maybe not a lot at this stage.
At about the age of 14, two of my older grandsons came to ask me about the global warming propaganda they were receiving at their (Scottish) school. I was gentle about it, and showed them how to investigate the other side of the argument and make up their own minds. Later they were very angry with their education, and I had to cool them down. Their development continued, to include a hatred of social justice warriors.
The two younger grandsons are now going the same route with me, though not about CAGW (old hat, apparently). In the end there will be four young men from the same family with their heads screwed on more or less right.
Hit the tip jar, David. Many thanks.

Ah, validation via cash, the sweetest kind. May your fridge remain fragrant despite the most potent of cheeses and regardless of sell-by dates.
Royce’s poem winning wasn’t down to white privilege, was it? Were there no deserving poems from minorities at an exclusive left wing scho… oh.
I’ve remarked to colleagues that “white privilege” is nothing more than a mask for elite privilege. A way of “born this way” deflection of any guilt over class and a way to blame the hated other all in one – those filth that occupy the same skin tone and all classes lower than oneself.
“May your fridge remain fragrant despite the most potent of cheeses…”
Funny you should mention that. I live in Italy and decided recently that it was time I tried Gorgonzola. So did one of the younger grandsons, here for a visit.
The cheese doesn’t stay in the fridge long enough to reek: it jumps on to crackers of its own accord.
The cheese doesn’t stay in the fridge long enough to reek:
The Other Half has a fondness for cheeses that are ripe to the point of being a biohazard. Prolonged exposure induces chest pains and dizziness. I try to suppress their, um, fragrance with a fridge deodoriser and a series of containers deployed like matryoshka dolls, one inside another. Alas, with only partial success.
And he’ll probably never realise that his opinions aren’t the product of his own critical thinking (he won’t be capable of any) but of indoctrination and manipulation
It could go that way, or there’s half a chance that some of his generation could emphatically reject this disturbing nonsense – it might well lead to extreme views in the opposite direction.
I don’t think “abuse” is too strong a word.
Home education has never looked more appealing..
The Other Half has a fondness for cheeses that are ripe to the point of being a biohazard.
My parents, Mom being second generation American via Germany, Dad mostly so but further removed, both grew up in western Pennsylvania among the Dutch, were fans of the Limburger and Onion sammich, generally served with a beer. I highly recommend the beer. It’s a good bleach chaser.
The Other Half has a fondness for cheeses that are ripe to the point of being a biohazard. … I try to suppress their, um, fragrance with a fridge deodoriser and a series of containers ….
Perhaps you need a dorm fridge dedicated to “fragrant” foods.
The Other Half has a fondness for cheeses that are ripe to the point of being a biohazard.
Hmm. Maybe I shouldn’t mention Stinking Bishop, produced in Gloucestershire. Potent isn’t the word…
Maybe I shouldn’t mention Stinking Bishop,
For God’s sake, don’t encourage him.
Maybe I shouldn’t mention Stinking Bishop,
For God’s sake, don’t encourage him.
He is content with Limburger?
He is content with Limburger?
I draw the line at Feet Bacteria Cheese™.
Caption for the above picture: Turned out that after Bibendum’s gangsta rap album ‘Bust A (Re)Cap in Yo Azz’ tanked, he ended up Michelin’s spokes-tire again; although he constantly thinks of retiring…
I am sure he rejected the prize because “white privilege” had the whole affair stacked in his favour. But then to where would the self-congratulations be mailed?
I read somewhere that his mother wrote the poem; he, like all well-trained progressives, simply memorized and recited the poem…
David @ 16.04 That’s a woman… think I’ll stick to sex with men.
Re: Fuck White People
Now there’s a white person nobody wants to fuck. At least I hope not.
It could be “White People Fuck” you know: a call for more Aryan sexual activity?
The Paideia School is one of the most elite and expensive private schools in Atlanta. If he is so embarrassed by his white privilege why doesn’t he just drop out and attend a public school? {roblem solved.
Royce Mann is a child actor, his parents are an actor and actress, his brother is an actor. Aside from his having been steeped in moonbattery from birth, this whole thing is way too staged not to have been a publicity stunt.
Aha. The plot thins.
No one’s mentioned casu marzu yet?
In a Gross Cheese thread?
What’s the matter with you people?
The wiki entry says: “When disturbed, the larvae can launch themselves for distances up to 15 cm (6 in). Some people clear the larvae from the cheese before consuming while others do not.”
Surely, that’s worth a higher place in the thread than HERE.
Between this sissy boys parotted self-flagellation performance art and this talk of vile and noxious cheeses I’ve lost my appetite.
Aha. The plot thins.
Oooh, good one . . . .
Evergreen:
Most of what that map shows is “where people are afraid to be thought racist.” Indians appear to find racism unremarkable. Brazilians and Colombians have so much mixed blood there’s no such thing as “another race.”
Oooh, good one . . . .
Stole it from M*A*S*H; Hawkeye said it when Frank entered the room, once.
Indians appear to find racism unremarkable.
Either that, or “race” was mistranslated as “caste”.
For those who missed it first time round, this seems apposite:
As so often, you have to marvel at the arrogance.
Royce will have to something about that surname too if he’s serious about taking on loads of unearned guilt.
Royce Mann is a child actor, his parents are an actor and actress, his brother is an actor. Aside from his having been steeped in moonbattery from birth, this whole thing is way too staged not to have been a publicity stunt.
The kid has no chance. No more chance than a kid in a rough council scheme with a parent/parents who have no desire to see them better themselves.
Tragic.
That child’s drivel is not poetry in either form or content. Any school that encourages pupils to think otherwise is deliberately dumbing down – probably in the cause of anti-elitism or something.
Incidentally, we received a Christmas card with a similar ‘poem’ written by the sender’s 12 year old son at his school. It began: “Refugees, come here to Britain, all of you are welcome…”. And it didn’t get any better. His mother was evidently very proud of his indoctrination.
Meanwhile, in fashion news…
The only plausible reason for a white person to wear an outfit like that is that she, he or it wants to get laid. It’s probably the only way to accomplish that objective in this case.
Related: it would be handy to have a short abbreviated word for “she, he or it”, maybe between three and five letters. Suggestions?
The kid is a professional actor and model for Pete’s sake; he’s been indoctrinated at birth by his family and cohort.
Oftimes denizens of a Facebook group I belong to will ask some variation on, “Why did everything turn to shit?” My answer is always, always, always because “progressives” have controlled education top to bottom for the last 50 years.
