Victoria Stroup reports a harrowing turn of events at Edgewood College, Madison, Wisconsin:
Staff from the student conduct, human resources, Title IX, and diversity offices were brought together so they could decide how to respond to the “hateful message.” According to [Vice President for Student development, Tony] Chambers, “the group determined that the message constituted a hate crime, based on guidelines from the Jeanne Clery Act and state law.” He adds the group acted according to college policy and reported the incident to the Madison, Wisconsin Police Department, which is currently investigating it as a “hate crime,” and that it is also being investigated through the college’s Student Conduct Process.
The item deemed so incendiary and deserving of endless meetings and even police involvement? Amid post-election campus hysteria, some wag had left a pink Post-It note on a window, bearing four words: “Suck it up, pussies.”
I’ve been triggered by the post-it note of death.
You do have to wonder what it would take for such people to register the disproportion and absurdity of their own behaviour. I mean, when you’re calling the police to report a pink Post-It note – one that mocks overreaction and self-inflated drama – you’d think there might be some dim flickering of awareness.

One premised on the conceit that hair-trigger outrage and lunatic self-involvement are both socially acceptable and a badge of piety, and of status. They’re exploiting credulous teenagers in a way that’s somewhere between a con and psychological abuse.
So, if this is the reaction to a post-it note with no express personal threats, where do they go emotionally when something really bad happens?
How do they know it was a “hateful message” ? Perhaps some of the ladies of the college are feeling, shall we say, neglected; it could be more of a suggestion like, “Drink Coke™”, of “Got Milk”.

So the reaction of the students is one thing, but the reaction of the various paid staffs is largely explainable by their business case: They get paid more, and get more power in their organizations, by being quick on the draw and maximally noisy about these trivial matters.

It’s bad enough these aging children react like this ot the election but when it’s affecting little kids I get really annoyed.
NPR this afternoon had an article about a heavily Mexican / Mexican-American elementary school in Windsor, California, about 1.5 hours driving north of San Francisco. Several 8-year-olds were interviewed, along with their teacher.
The kids, all US citizens, but some with non-citizen parents (i.e illegal aliens) were sobbing openly in fear that they or their parents or friends would be rounded up and deported back to Mexico. One crying kid said he’d been taunted by some neighbor kids. The teacher, who had been illegal up to age 14 when she became legal (probably through one of the periodic amnesties) was soothing, but not much more emotionally stable.
(There had been two instances of graffiti at the school around the election: “Build the wall higher” and “trump 2016”. there had been a counter to this in the form of parents and staff with banners welcoming all to the school.)
So, OK, the kids might have a reason to be upset. But the stark terror they expressed could NOT have come from inside these 8 year old children. It HAD to be in sympathy with what the adults around them were telling them or emoting about.
The whole thing made me sick.
Oh, and I was also treated to an extended interview with an ex-head of the ACLU about how they have a long and successful history of fighting university campus “speech codes”. Great, if true, but gee, isn’t it interesting that I have heard not one peep from these folks on the radio over the last 8 years? Is the subject suddenly interesting JUST NOW for some reason?
