The proposal was lovely and, of course, she said yes.
Have another one in a few hours. The gentleman wanted to propose tomorrow but Hurricane Isaias is sending wet weather and high winds to the mountains.
I remember ours.
“Shall we?”
“Yeah, alright.”

Well, again, as Ms Blanchett doesn’t have to use public transport for a daily commute, she isn’t likely to find herself sitting next to a masturbating African. And she isn’t likely to find that all that vibrancy and enrichment crouching on her doorstep and taking a shit.
And Ms Blanchett isn’t likely to find exotic newcomers creeping into her garden at night and peering through her windows to watch her, and film her, for erotic purposes.
But less statusful women – women who don’t live in mansions on private thirteen-acre estates, and who aren’t insulated from the consequences of indiscriminate third-world immigration – do experience these things.
Much as they’d rather not.

As we politely say in law, that narrative lacks all indicia of reliability.
In common speech . . . dat bitch be lyin’.
.
I assume the point is that the white boy’s mother was charged.
I always assume anything “Bishop” Talbert Swan says is a malicious lie.

The eyes. (Also the, er, costumes.)
David, is this accurate?
The one they don’t support: “[…] zero grams of trans fat.”
No. You missed the point. There was no white boy. I believe the white woman in the picture is the teacher the little 6 yo black boy shot. It happened three years ago but the police bodycam video was just released this week. And yes, Virginia.

The number of smaller building firms has fallen significantly, and the level of council regulation – and the cost of complying with it – has increased quite dramatically. Regulatory costs may not be the entire story – I couldn’t say – but certainly a major part of it.
There was not enough detail to make the point clear: I was aware of the case of the black 6-year-old, but was holding out the possibility that Swan was alluding to a second case in which the boy was white.
Stumbled onto the wiki article regarding the 6 yo gangsta. One interesting excerpt:
Yes. Yes, Ebony. Ivory of course…So $10 million. So Ebony had to pay for
hisher mistake. I’m sure whenheshe goes to the bank and seeshisher balance $10 million less it will serve as a lesson. Oh, what’s that? Insurance? Yes. Yesheshe must have had insurance. So the insurance company is the one out $10 million. Wonder where they get such sums of money to pay out?Bishop Swan is even more of a malicious liar …well, in his defense he was apparently reacting to the media report that used a picture of a white boy holding a gun. So…though that doesn’t rule out the possibility of a black boy having a white mother. What with all the quasi-consensual sex going on these days.
Previously in the world of Cate Blanchett.

Or, status-seeking woman does fatuous thing that confers status among her status-seeking in-group, awaits applause.
Still, at least she’s leaving little doubt as to the kind of creature she is.

Akshully Akshully Akshully I think aelf and I are mixed up on which thread this is. This is Friday Ephemera (ahem…cough cough). My apologies to Ed. Damn that hurts.
As it should. He’s quoting the latest update to this.

Currently mulling whether to give Mike Flanagan’s eight-part adaptation of Carrie a watch. His previous offerings have been a mixed bag – good on set-ups and eerie touches, less good on the landings. And when he introduces his own politics, as in the finale of The Fall of the House of Usher, it’s a little naff and grating.
I’m not laughing, I swear.
Hadn’t realised the comment in this thread was an update to the previous.
Pull t’other, it’s got bells on.
The first episode is good.
Holy hell, I’m willing to give up my right to vote if it will keep these dumb bitches away from casting a ballot.

Their kind will be our ruin.
To elaborate a little. Summer Howell is a good Carrie, very watchable, and Samantha Sloyan is great as the mother. I should add that the mother is portrayed as not entirely unsympathetic, given the modern world she warns about, which was a welcome touch.
There’s a scene involving an unannounced school-shooter drill, which Carrie, having been home-schooled, doesn’t understand, and the mother’s subsequent, somewhat chilly meeting with teachers. Her position on this matter is rather more sympathetic than the glib smugness of the teachers.
It’ll be interesting to see how the adaptation handles its portrayal of female malice.
Again, Flanagan often has trouble with the endings of his series, which rarely match the intriguing set-ups. But so far, so good.
Disco peaches.
