“You can’t be racist against white people,” says she, confidently, having just demonstrated precisely the opposite, and then doing it again.
The facial dynamics may also be of interest.
Note madam’s insistence that racism only exists if it’s backed by “power,” the particulars of which remain somewhat unclear – a claim designed to give license to racial minorities and especially black people – pre-emptively and on an indefinite basis – when indulging in racist sentiment or behaviour.
When asked how she came to this perverse and non-reciprocal redefinition, she looks surprised, indeed incredulous. “I went to school,” says she. “I went to university.”
And so, we have an enthusiast of “equity,” a credentialled being, who’s “making sure the standards are the same” by making those standards wildly different, depending on the colour of your skin and therefore how oppressed you must be. Or conversely, how inclined you must be to crush others underfoot, on account of your pallor.
She’s a reporter, you know. Bodes well.
My own definition of “equity,” illustrated many, many times, would be something like equality of outcome regardless of inputs. Inputs including diligence, effort and ability. Which doesn’t sound fair at all.
But as we’ve seen, the church of “equity” requires elaborate mental contortion, via which, “granting access” entails denying access – say, by shutting down advanced courses for gifted pupils – and among devotees, “whiteness” is the go-to pejorative, a thing to be corrected, and for which the sinfully pale are expected to atone.
There’s a through-the-looking-glass quality.

Should further, real-world illustrations of “equity” be required, a compendium can be found here, including the outlawing of even basic tests of teacher competence, on grounds of “disparate impact,” and firefighters who cannot read the instructions on their own safety equipment.

There is, I think, a remarkable tolerance of dishonesty and contradiction, an imperviousness.
DEI, we’re told, is all about “making sure the standards are the same” – i.e., by making them wildly different according to race – and seconds later, “DEI has nothing to do with standards.” Which is a lie.
But amid the contradictions, churned out at a rate of knots, what lingers is how you can see that she’s losing patience with Warren. Because he won’t pretend.
Like she does.

I covet Warren’s ability to break down and clarify others’ arguments. When people spout nonsense, I typically don’t know what to say, because their confusion confuses me.

I didn’t make much effort to find out if there was a specific context intended by the poster. I just liked it for the general context of liberals wanting us to forget about all the evil things they did to us. You cannot throw liberals’ tyrannical ambitions in their faces too often.
I assume the context is Whoopi’s infamous dismissal of Roman Polanski’s forcible rape of a young teen as merely “rape but not rape-rape”.

Cheap, plentiful energy strikes me as a prerequisite of any civilisation you’d care to live in. Yet there are people who seem to believe that their own domestic efforts at frugality with regard to energy use should be extended across society. As if businesses, entire industries, could be made to make do with less, rather than, say, going bust, or relocating to a country where energy is less expensive.

Depends on how close the moon is to the sun. We had one pass over us in GA about 8 years ago. It was cool but it wasn’t complete, total darkness. My coworkers who were in Florida were kinda, so what?
Meanwhile, no eclipses here today.
The total eclipse of 1999 was good. I remember standing in a garden in Oxford, fascinated by the pinhole shadows under trees, the detectable drop in temperature, and the rather eerie silence. Even if you could draw a diagram showing, roughly, how the eclipse comes about, there’s still an air of the uncanny.

There’s a Poul Anderson collection named Midas World that examines the societal implications of basically free energy (via the McGuffin of a type of nuclear fusion that uses seawater as fuel). “When energy is cheap, so is everything else.”
I understand the appeal of a catchy term of art, but again – this isn’t empathy. It’s what Dickens called “telescopic philanthropy”, or just plain virtue signaling. These women – and it’s always women – have no empathy for their obsessions. They’re just showing off their luxury beliefs to improve their status in the herd.

Eclipse: back in about 1969 my friends and I went down to the Okeefenokee Geogria swamp wildlife park (tiny zoo thing) to see the total eclipse. When it happened the alligators (we were looking into the gator pit) did not like it and all turned and went into the water. As soon as it was dark, thousands of frogs started croaking. A few minutes later it got light again and the birds started singing but the frogs kept going for a while. Quite the scene.

The girl is an idiot, but Smith is setting up the premises to make her case for her anyway. He accepts the ideal of historic white nations becoming fully shuffled racial utopias, he accepts the immorality of whites having the slightest bit of ingroup preference or giving coethnics a break. Without any prompting, he brings up segregated water fountains as a baseline paradigm of immorality. If the premise is accepted that the United States is immoral in its founding and traditions and systems that favor whites, it’s a small step to argue that the fully shuffled racial utopia might require “temporarily” disfavoring whites or “temporarily” facilitating nonwhites to have racial advocacy. Smith highlights his water fountain comment as a “Dems are the real racists” knockout blow, but an audience with mainstream media conditioning, having been cued by Smith himself to replay Freedom Riders newsreel footage in their heads, is more likely to think that it’s racial karma and the white man is whining.

I remember reading a Heinlein essay back in the 1980s that his grandfather in the 1890s received a better and broader education as a peasant farmer than so-called middle class university graduates in the 1970s, and that universities were refusing to require entrants to have basic english and maths, and were actually putting courses – UNIVERISTY! courses – teaching basic skills their undergraduates should have got at school. RAH died in 1988, he’d be horrified by the following 40 years.
I’ve mentioned this before, but around about 1970 the standard Wheellock’s Latin started coming with a smaller pamphlet on English grammar, as Prof. Wheellock found that his incoming undergraduates couldn’t understand Latin grammatical tenses because they’d never learned the English ones.

This was in the days before massive new-immigrant inflows, and UC admitted mostly the top 12% of California High School graduates, with Berkeley getting the cream of those.

The goal of the hard core activists is always destabilizing the existing society to bring on the Revolution – to get power, to be the masters.
The goal of the useful idiots is to get confirmation of popular status and FEEL grandly humanistic and compassionate.
One group is probably intelligent enough to help their fellow men, but evil and selfish to the point of sociopathy – willing to use suffering to get their way.
The other group is living in fantasy and too stupid to make much productive contribution, except for that dreary day job the capitalists have foisted on them.

The state university campus across the street from my grade school already had remedial math and English classes in the mid 1960’s.
