However. There is, to quote Columbo, one more thing.
The time is upon us when I rashly appeal to the better nature of my patrons. If you’d like to ensure this place exists a while longer and remains ad-free, there are three buttons below the fold with which to monetise any love. Debit and credit cards are accepted. If what happens here is of value, this is a chance to show it.
If one-click haste is called for, there’s a QR code in the sidebar, at which you point your phone camera, and my PayPal.Me page can be found here. There are also SubscribeStar and Ko-Fi accounts, via which love may be monetised, whether as one-off donations or monthly subscriptions. Should you be gripped by an urge to express encouragement via currency, by all means succumb.
Additionally, any Amazon UK shopping done via this link, or via the button in the sidebar, results in a small fee for your host at no extra cost to you.
Sordid business, I grant you, but it’s what keeps this place here.
For newcomers wishing to know more about what’s been going on here for nineteen chuffing years, in over 3,600 posts and hundreds of thousands of comments, the Reheated series is a pretty good place to start – in particular, the end-of-year-summaries, which convey the fullest flavour of what it is we do. A sort of blog concentrate. If you like what you find there… well, there’s lots more of that.
Do take a moment to poke through the discussion threads too. The posts are intended as starting points, not full stops, and the comments are where much of the good stuff is waiting to be found. And do please join in.
As always, thanks for the support, the comments, and the company.
See? Buttons.

Matthew 6:3
This is a very bad idea. A firearm is a tool to be respected and MUST have recognition of the fact is fires ammo and thus dispenses deadly force. Putting training wheels on a bike is one thing but all I can think of is when that hapless woman they used to advertise has to use it “for real” for the first time.
If you cannot “take” learning the real thing from Day 1 – even giving yourself time to adapt to not only the noise and feel – so you can appreciate what it is you are doing . . . then maybe the use of firearms is just not meant for you.
Speaking of World Cup/kickyball fans, England fan loses his phone on layover in Barcelona, goes missing, and is found in pub. So many questions…
And for the holiday . . . and for those not celebrating the USA’s birthday, at least a palate cleanser.
Technology is amazing. I photographed these two dogs separately in the front office of the kennel for whom I do work. The setting was created by me using AI. Still with AI, another app not only allowed me to place the dogs in the setting but matched for lighting and white balance. All within minutes, mind you.
We live in marvelous times and we need to remind ourselves of that now and then.
By the way, that’s Graham and Teddy.
Album name. Live album by band from either UK or Germany made while on a US tour.
Yeah…that just seems…dumb. I mean…I could maaaybe see, especially for the generation that didn’t have toy guns as kids (a whole other rabbit hole) getting comfortable with an airsoft or BB gun first, or maybe dry firing a heavy revolver with heavy trigger pull vs a semiautomatic, but how many steps in between are you going to take? I would expect that would be Day 1, maybe even the first half of Day 1 in a regular course.
I took a community police training course about 15 years ago. There were about a dozen people in the class, just over half were women IIRC. One of the classes involved going out to the sheriff/police shooting range (which was waaaaay out in BFE for some reason). I wasn’t a regular firearms user at the time but I wasn’t totally unfamiliar nor ignorant about gun safety. It was quite apparent that none of the women had ever handled any sort of firearm. We got through the safety stuff, the basics, and fired a few rounds from various weapons (one was an Uzi) all in one late summer evening before the sun set.
Even briefer…Me waking up this morning.
