In academia’s Clown Quarter, being happily married is “white supremacy.”
Stripped of contrivance, I’m assuming the above is a roundabout admission that, on average, people who find marriage an alien concept and much too demanding, and who opt instead for transient partners, fatherless children, and unstable relationship trash fires, tend to do less well in life, along with their offspring. Though I’m not sure why the response should be to blame those who get their shit together, marry, and raise children more successfully.
If little Don’t-Know-Who-My-Dad-Is is starting fires at school and looks destined for a life of delinquency and crime, this is not obviously the fault of the happily married Mr and Mrs Jefferson and their two non-fire-starting children. And no amount of chest-puffing about “heteropatriarchy,” “unequal power relations” and “white supremacy” seems likely to alter that fact.
The appearance of morony is hailed as an achievement. At a university.
While Dr Strouse is revelling in how exotic and ethnic his classroom sounds, are his students narrowing their options in the job market? Unless it turns out that in the real world every employer wants their company’s memos and public literature, and their customer interactions, to include lots of double negatives, unfinished words, mispronunciation, and mangled tenses. Oh, and aks instead of ask. That always looks professional.
And let’s not forget this farce at the Writing Centre at the University of Washington, Tacoma, the stated goal of which is to “help writers write and succeed in a racist society” – a feat to be accomplished by dismissing spelling and grammar as “racist” and “an unjust language structure.” And whose director, Dr Asao Inoue, took over a year to write a simple, 500-word press release.
Apparently, students with brown skin needn’t be articulate, verbally self-possessed, or precise in their thoughts. And that ungrammatical job application, the one enlivened with incomprehensible sentences and lots of inventive spelling, will do just fine. And by the time the real-world consequences of this “social justice” posturing become difficult to avoid, Dr Inoue will have been paid – and will be merrily exploiting the next batch of suckers.
And so we arrive at a familiar question: If you wanted to harm the prospects of minority students, to diminish their chances in life, while congratulating yourself and being applauded by your peers, what would you do differently?
It’s Trivial When The Victim Is Someone Who Isn’t Me.
Habitual car theft is “a victimless crime,” says Nora the socialist.
I wonder if dear Nora has ever paused to consider what stolen cars are very often used for – besides, say, joyriding and endangering other road users. And whether those doing the stealing might often belong to criminal gangs, whose anti-social activities spill over into other areas. Say, smash-and-grabs, and forms of liveliness requiring a getaway car.
Or, as Michael Rothe of the Canadian Finance and Leasing Association points out, “A large majority of thefts are actually being orchestrated by organised crime rings, who use the profits to finance illegal activities like drug and gun trafficking, and human smuggling.”
But hey, no biggie.
Perhaps it would be ungentlemanly to wish on dear Nora some first-hand experience of the crimes she so merrily diminishes when inflicted on someone else, someone who isn’t her. Though it is, I think, tempting.
Transport For London promotes assisted suicide, with remarkable enthusiasm.
It’s perhaps worth noting that Transport For London has a staff training centre, complete with fake station and platform, and “suicide pits,” where employees learn how to manage what are euphemistically referred to as “passengers taken unwell” or “disruptions to the tube service.” Events that occur on average once or twice a week.
As someone who’s experienced first-hand the soul-withering properties of attempts to travel in London – and would not care to repeat it – there is, I think, an unhappy irony. It’s also worth noting that TfL, supported by London’s leftist mayor, Sadiq Khan, has been quite eager to forbid adverts on the tube for foods deemed insufficiently healthy and life-affirming, including artisanal cheeses.
For those craving more, this is a pretty good place to start.

BTW, anyone get ‘raptured‘ yesterday?
Yeah, my engine hoist slipped, but I have a surgeon’s appointment next week. Oh, wait, rapture, never mind.

Torah Derangement Syndrome?
@Darleen, this does not appear to be satire.
Holy crap … sorry, I should always check my links (clipboard failed to pick up THIS)
oh.dear.lord.
Regardless of whether there is a link to autism, the stupidity of these people beggars belief – it is right there on the package, 4000mg/day liver warning (a black box warning on the professional insert). 8 extra strength or 12 regular is all it takes.
Stupidity or monstrous selfishness?
Assuming the story is true, that is. There’s always someone on the internet who’s willing to tell a pious lie to prove a point.
Also, I can believe that a pregnant Trump-hater downed a handful of Tylenol to spite him and it trashed her liver.
wotta world
Certainly not this woman.
It never fails to amaze me that people think that the Rapture or the Second Coming can be predicted. The scripture says that nobody knows and nobody will be told when.
Nobody.
If you’re gonna believe in Jesus, at least believe that part? If nobody knows when He’s coming back, the only thing you can do is get right with God and then go on with your life. What happens, happens.
There will never be a better troll in the White House again.
That thing that never happens. You know the drill.
Original story and follow-up.
Looks like it might be an urban legend. It’s getting a lot of circulation.
That’s why the link to the follow up. It doesn’t appear that Nicole is some random person with no association with the medical profession. If it was some guy trying to feed her BS, that one thing. But she also talks about her own experience and what she is hearing from ER nurses she knows.
The people who denounce expectations of civility and reciprocation – or “respectability politics,” as they may sneeringly put it – do seem to be of a certain psychological type. Which is to say, they tend to struggle with realism and basic logic, even within their own assumptions, their own weird framing, and they tend to be emotionally volatile.
Often to a degree that suggests a need for medication.
It generally translates as something like, “I am accustomed to using bullying and thuggery and lying and acts of outright spite to get what I want and to feel important. So I intend to go on using them.”
Very often with the active support of academics and educational bureaucrats.
I hadn’t see your post when I posted. Yes, she does sound legit.
Not entirely unrelated.
And again, note the eye-widening dishonesty of the university. The willingness to lie. As if it were second nature:
While indulging in threats and mob thuggery, that is, and theft and vandalism, and while clutching sharp metal objects that could be used as weapons.
Wig off, boobs out.
Again, not entirely unrelated.
Resolved: Britain’s judges are enemies of the people.
Related mystery: why so many Hollywood children are even crazier than their parents.
My understanding is that “instant” liver failure happens only when you take a massive overdose (half the bottle?). Otherwise, it’s a relatively slow process. Most frequently it’s either habitual overuse of Tylenol or frequent use in combination with heavy drinking.
Dammit, David, I thought you were linking to Flappr again.
Those days when you just feel unlike a lot of your fellow human beings…
Wigging out.
Bring back the insane asylums.
And a high tolerance of contradiction…
Paracelsus, “The dose makes the poison”.
An adult overdose with OTC acetaminophen is around 150mg/kg which is about 30 extra strength (42 regular) for a 200lb (14 stone 28 farthings) individual. Obviously it is fewer tablets for a smaller person, but for our 200lb chap this would translate to 13,500mg, whereas the max normal therapeutic dose would be between 3900 and 6000mg (12 tabs of either strength).
One can play with numbers all day, but for comparison someone 120lbs (8 stone 57 hogsheads) the magic number is 8100mg (25 regular or 16 extra strength) so “massive” can be not so massive. Further confusing the issue is, as the nurse points out, in any OD situation it is rarely known how many were actually taken.
Symptoms of OD are in the first 24 hours nausea, vomiting, and anorexia. 1-3 days add RUQ pain and elevation of liver enzymes and other markers of liver damage, after that is is downhill with a 2-5% fatality rate. In a known OD, treatment must begin within 8 hours of ingestion. Relatively slow is relative, ask the Victorian Brits.
In the US&A reports vary but have seen up to 20% of ODs are acetaminophen, so not a trivial issue, and whereas the internet tale may be bogus, (we don’t know the alleged timeline and no one said “instant”), it is nonetheless far from impossible that some idiot chugged half a bottle and crashed in a couple of days.
We will now return you to our regular programming.
Aren’t teachers ‘mandated reporters’?
Because we should always trust a ‘Very important doctor.’
I was talking about cases where people habitually and frequently take somewhat more than the recommended daily dose, so that the liver damage is slow and gradual.
As for “instant”, that was (of course) a casual shorthand for the presumably fake news in that linked tweet.
Well, yes. It would fit the broad pattern. I mean, if you’re very motivated to be seen mouthing whatever position is currently in fashion, as progressives are much more likely to be, then any conflict between that stance and whatever was in fashion two weeks ago, or two weeks before that, is much more likely to be overlooked or regarded as unimportant.
See also, hypocrisy and non-reciprocal pieties.
Not that slow.
Once knew a nurse whose mother was hospitalised with liver failure thanks to a bad case of influenza. She, the mother, had been out of it (as you can be with the flu) and feeling horrid (ditto) and took acetaminophen throughout the day whenever semi-alert . . . which was more frequently than she realised. Didn’t take much more than 24 hours for her to start suffering from induced liver failure. She did survive but with cirrhosis.
And regarding the above, this is not inapt.
She keeps her emotions to herself, she says. While filming another in-car meltdown and then sharing it with random strangers.
Also, enormo-glasses.

Why is she wearing scuba goggles?
Plotted to kill NH governor:
“Going insane”. No kidding.
She has a child. I’m guessing artificial insemination.
Something I think may be getting missed here is that if the person in this tale was downing Tylenol to Own The Chuds, she wasn’t doing it quietly and privately. She was doing it on camera for social media clout.
That means multiple videos with multiple takes. Those TikTok screeds you see are rehearsed and performative and the screecher is shooting multiple takes and uploading the “best” one. It is entirely believable that a petite pregnant woman could ingest 12 or more extra-strength Tylenol over eight hours this way. Especially if she truly believed that they’re harmless.
For the same reason she’s adorned herself with fishing lures?

Oh, wait, never mind.
regarding all the POC resentment out there: In the USA, discrimination had lowered so long ago, that an entire generation of blacks was able to get degrees (including medical) have a career, buy a house in the suburbs and retire almost 20 years ago. Those who have drunk the inner city kool-aid and think studying makes you “acting white” have chosen not to get on the success train. It is a choice.
Wonder how it turned out.
