Friday Ephemera (777)
Discourse was attempted. || It’s all in the tongue, I’m told. || A little snug. || Incoming. || Incoming 2. || Instant immortality, 1970. || A map of light pollution. || On why we might not want to detect, or be detected by, an alien intelligence. Previously, on relativistic weapons. || Splashes in a vacuum. || Suboptimal situation. || A spot of Chopin. || Parenting. || A project for the weekend. || When you forget you’re in charge. || The testosterone makes her sweat. || The thrill of self-touching. || “I studied non-binary identities in college.” || But he was only going to stab y’all. || Keyboard. || Discussion point. || For lovers of equations: “Why can’t you walk through walls if atoms are mostly empty space?” || It would be easier if you quit squirming. || Oh, and scenes of pumping and squeaking.

[ Summons jinn entities. ]
I think you meant gin entities.
Jinning up excuses for their defeat.
The Iranians and other Muslim enemies of the West have been saying that sort of thing for decades…if not longer.
Less & less am I inclined to agree that killing someone for property crimes is disproportionate.
Quite.
Is it wrong to take a certain amount of satisfaction in knowing the police are never going to get the reek of patchouli and cat wee out of their transports?
We laugh, but they could be the ruin of the world.
Cuddly pet?
Plenty of meat on that mother.
Consider it done. Thanks for thoughts and laughs.
Bless you, sir. May you not dream that your door bell is ringing, prompting you to get up, in the middle of the night, just to be sure that it was in fact a dream.

Likewise illegal immigrants: I read that Poland is getting lots of flak from the EU for using merely non-deadly force to prevent
migrantsinvaders from crossing the border. Stopping the invaders by any means necessary, including deadly force, seems increasingly appropriate. They didn’t show the irrepressible, collectivist, space-monopolizing whites trying to touch the hair of the self-effacing individualist black, but that was presumably inevitable after a couple of drinks. Black racial narcissism, represented in their music videos and New York Times columns and antimicroaggression lessons, where they imagine that when whites gather in a room or a neighborhood or a country by themselves, the question at the forefront of their consciousness is where are the blacks to make our lives whole and moral and rhythmic; and that when there is a black in the room, even in the middle of singing Happy Birthday to somebody else, it’s the black who’s at the forefront of everyone’s consciousness.
Remember TOS’s The Gamesters of Triskilion?
Fitting antisocial types with a collar of obedience seems increasingly attractive.
Protesting Kroger closing: why do they think someone opens a store if not profit? They are free to open a non-profit store, but even that can go out of business if shoplifting is common. In a grocery just southwest of Chicago loop (ie not in the worst neighborhoods) they had 2 burly cops stationed at all times. 2. not free either. My daughter in college was getting gas there and a kid grabbed her purse. She chased him down in high heels and got it back. I told her don’t ever do that again.
“cops” tv show: I also note how chaotic the lives and disorganized the thinking of the miscreants, even white ones. Even if not drunk/high. Explains a lot.
One. More. Time.
Well, that’s one way to help illegal immigrants. I wonder how much he made.
Perps getting shot would not be “a tragedy”.
“I do a lot of weird shit when I’m high.”
That’s not an excuse–that’s a justification for maximum punishment.
‘A misconceived attempt by you to protect your property’
[ Adds butter, garlic to shopping list ]
Would it be wrong to hope that the judge “experiences” a home invasion? One so terrible that she wakes up screaming every night for the rest of her life?
Isn’t that ‘collar of obedience’ better known as a ‘noose’?
About that . . .
Just a thought about the dearth of DVD in favor of streaming — people who rely on purchasing a license to stream a movie are playing a risky game. Distributer of that license can cancel at any time and then you’re out both the money and what you thought was a copy you’d own “forever”, like a book or DVD. There are some films I love rewatching at least once a year so those are the ones I make sure to collect as a hard copy … just like books. While I love the portability of my Kindle, I know my “library” is always at risk of something being pulled OR rewritten (ala “Han now fires second”).
You’re gonna need lots of garlic.
There are open source alternatives to the Kindle reader app. There’s even a way to ‘jailbreak‘ your Kindle.
I download e-books & make copies in a separate location just in case.
One guy I know says he always buys two copies of every DVD–one to play, and one as a backup if the first copy gets damaged.
It’s a pity that it’s taxpayer money going down that rat hole.
Exactly. Due to a couple of moves I dumped a lot of reference books thinking that the web and our public libraries contained all that info anyway. I held on to a few shelves worth of quality books and ones that I really valued. As I have watched the quality books in our public libraries evaporate and the bastardization of books on line, I have decided to build a library of books that are foundational or definitive of western civilization as a library corner of my recently completed pool/poker room (aka The Doghouse). Once I get a few other projects settled down I plan to add a book or two a month. When trapped in mountain antique-y stores I look for candidates. If none there, that’s what Amazon was supposedly created for. My first item ordered on Amazon last month, was a collection of Dostoyevsky’s short stories, the critical inclusion of which was Notes From the Underground. Which I have been reading with a cigar as I overlook the lake across the street. I welcome any suggestions of quality Western civilization items.
But disciplinarians are more motivated when their jobs are fun.
Britain is now censoring videos of the protests against open borders.
WTP:
I deal with processing health insurance claims at work, so I see this a lot. I’m assuming there’s some requirement that the CPT code for blood pressure, weight check, and the like, have to show up on the HCFA. But since they’re part of a standard GP visit which has its own code, they often get charged at one cent with that one cent being adjusted on the EOB so that nobody owes anything.
Don’t misunderstand their motivation. They’re not mad, they’re perfectly rational. The goal is to aggressively invade his space while screaming until he either backs away or instinctively reacts to defend himself. As soon as he lays hands on either of them they’ll scream assault and battery. This tactic is taught to “professional” activists and protestors.
Kobo. You can load whatever books you want on it. You can even pay for them via the Kobo store, if you’re so inclined. The hardware isn’t as nice, but them’s the breaks.
The problem with digital media is that consumers will pirate the hell out of it if it’s at all possible. Having made it impossible for media producers to make money selling you a physical medium containing your entertainment, consumers will have to get used to producers providing entertainment on the producer’s terms. The alternative is no media at all, which is where the video game industry is rapidly heading.
I asked today, and it turns out not to be anything political at all: mostly personal stuff, possibly work stuff.
It’s Batman. Only Aztec.
Which, that could be interesting as long as they’re not trying to send The Message.
Yes, it’s a practised malevolence. In a better world, they would be punched, as often as should prove necessary, until they learned to behave.
As noted before, following this:
See also this. Which illustrates quite vividly the psychology in play.
He thinks the world isn’t fair. And so he’s going to be cruel to his own son.
Again, re the above, note the “accident of birth” bollocks.
And from the replies, this and this.
