Just to be clear…
I noticed this as well. It is annoying AF when you are walking a dog, but even just walking. Approach an intersection in a suburban setting and drivers will grind to a halt, virtually insisting that you cross in front of them. It’s of course at that instant that the dog decides he needs to pee on something. This “courtesy” causes unnecessary confusion and is potentially more dangerous. If you have the right-of-way, for God’s sake take it. Depending on where the sun is, on window tint, on any number of other factors sometimes your waving at people cannot be seen. It’s a passive-aggressive pussy play. Moist, 150 lbs, even 400 lbs. pedestrians should always yield to 2000 lbs automobiles and their momentum. They used to teach this stuff in kindergarten.
So . . . the estrogen made him do it.
And never, ever applicable to themselves.
You’re just an asshole with a touch of psychopathy looking for a fight with virtually everyone.
I will now resume not engaging with you.
Maybe. Maybe not. It wouldn’t surprise me if that put him over the edge but either way, and it does bother me somewhat to say so as I believe in agency, he’s a kid. And his head, and much else, has been messed with by adults. Lots and lots of adults were in a position to help him but instead, out of their own moral preening, chose to destroy him and/or create an environment like this one. But hey, don’t take my word for it. Apparently I just might be a psychopath.
[ Points to new post. ]
Somebody needs to take the stick out of WTP’s butt. It’s clearly been there long enough to start causing issues.
“Apparently I might just be a psychopath” – re-read your own comments on this thread and then see if your sarcasm is really so misplaced.
In reference to the discussed item, namely the young she/he/it that beat up the girl, I’d like to suggest that the proximate cause for this crap is one thing and one thing only: Big pharma. Also, the blissful ignorance with which we’ve been pumping hormonal analogs into our environment and bodies over the last sixty-odd years.
I think there’s definitely “something in the water”, these days. I look around, and all I see are young men who seem to be testosterone-deficient, and I have to wonder if my prejudiced perceptions might not be accurate.
Aside from the health issues, consider the effect on their minds: You’ve taken a growing organism that relies on hormonal signals at the right time in order to properly mature. Disrupt those; what happens? Are you surprised that there are mental health issues?
Now factor in the intentional disruption of those delicately-balanced hormonal signals and brain chemistry, via the good offices of random dosages of psychoactive substances, effectively at random. We really don’t know what the hell a lot of SSRI drugs actually do; we’re essentially whacking on the side of the machine with a great big hammer, and looking for positive results. Are you surprised when the results are violent? Insane?
None of this crap should be administered outside carefully controlled 24-hour clinical conditions. Putting people who’ve been dosed with this crap out in the public sphere is a criminal act, and the doctors responsible should be sued into oblivion for doing it.
I’ve been around people who were being treated for PTSD with the usual range of psychoactives. They didn’t tell the rest of us what was going on, because “privacy”, and the way they did it was basically “OK, here’s 5mg of this, to take three times a day… Try that for a few weeks, get back to us…”
Usual course of this would be everyone else in that individuals space going “WTF happened to Fred? He’s acting nuts all of a sudden…”
Then, they’d reevaluate, based totally on Fred’s reported perceptions of how it affected him, and maybe try something else. Then it’d be “F*ck… When did Fred become a narcoleptic zombie…?”
Rinse, repeat, until they found something that they thought worked. Meanwhile, Fred’s leadership is processing him for misconduct, because he assaulted someone while in his chemical haze, and beat up his wife, who left him…
None of this crap ought to be administered outside a clinical setting with full monitoring going on. The free-form experimentation on people who are out in public should be completely illegal, especially since “the public” often becomes unwitting victims of this medical experimentation.
Nuremberg outlawed medical experimentation on subjects who didn’t have informed consent. I say that ought to be extended out into the rest of the community that the subject is a part of: We should not be victimized by such medical experiment, modifying the chemistry of the human brain. Fred’s got a problem? Do the work on Fred in private, away from other people. He sure as hell shouldn’t be in public, driving a car, with access to weapons and everything else. If his mental state is such that you need to be working on it with chemicals? He shouldn’t be out in public until you get things figured out and working properly. Then, you should be required to tell everyone that Fred needs his meds on schedule, in order to function.
I don’t recall the name of the drug that was prescribed for Jordan Peterson, but it was only some time after his terrible reaction to stopping/reducing the dosage that such a problem became part of the medical literature for that drug.
We have huge numbers of drugs which with little or no long-term study of the effects, especially since the primary attention tends to be for serious effects rather than more subtle ones.
And then there is the problem of prescribing drugs and/or psychotherapy for problems best dealt with through behavioral counseling. (Shy and tongue-tied? Instead of years of psychotherapy on a couch, coaching to practice techniques to do things better and to slowly get past fears.)
And what about hormone-mimicking chemicals? I won’t claim to know much, but I do wonder about long term exposure to low levels of estrogen-like chemicals.)
Not really a catapult.
This is a popular copout IMNSHO. I believe the testosterone deficiency we are seeing is a direct result of the wussification (better?) of our culture. Boys need to engage in physical activity and especially physically aggressive sport. It doesn’t have to be martial arts or such but at least football, rugby, wrestling, hockey, even basketball, baseball, or soccer. Anything that triggers the physical fear factor to some degree. Sport that at least involves running into each other. Over the last half century or so fewer and fewer boys seem to be engaging in those sports. And I say this as a guy who only played those sports in pickup games, if that. While I played a good bit of pickup basketball, I wish I had done some football or wrestling. And started those much younger. I believe those sports, even if you’re not very good at them, even for a smaller guy, they help focus the mind and body for the real world and make for a stronger pool of stronger, more mentally serious men.
Agree 100% on this tho. Young people who require this degree of medical intervention should not be in the general population of young people. Mostly agree in regard to adults as well but there’s likely more wiggle room. Definitely defer to experts, assuming you can find any sane ones in that domain.
Full size American trucks are simply impractical on the streets of Europe. Aside from a few enthusiasts, it’s just not gonna happen, any more than rural America took to the Fiat 500.
They’ve been very popular for years in the Scottish highlands and islands, mind you. I’d imagine much of Scandinavia’s the same. Bloke who used to live along the street from me imported them. But usually from Australia, because RHD. I’d swear he drove a Holden-badged Silverado in the ’90s, but according to Wikipedia Holden was selling Isuzus back then, not Chevies. Definitely a Silverado, though.
