Here’s a Helios that at least makes some acknowledgement of Classical Greek conceptions.
And here are lots of Classical images. David: Which do you most identify with? 🙂
Something about it suggested Indian, in an unfortunate Deviant Art sort of way.
If she’s going to pull her weight, rather than be a useless parasite, the only other option is to join the dwarves working in the mine. Not exactly work that young women are suited to–especially young women who have not been laboring since childhood.
The writers’ political sophistication, as they doubtless see it, has seemingly rendered them dull, undiscerning. Unable to see how their own ideological assumptions result in changes that are inapt, even morally jarring. And they appear taken aback that the public, their intended customers, aren’t terribly impressed.
Our host, a master of understatement.
What’s worth noting is that in the trailer these changes are clearly inapt and unsuccessful. The inversion of the cleaning scene, for instance, has an air of self-satisfaction: “Look at how cleverly we’ve corrected this scene.” When the effect merely suggests a failure to understand why the scene was there in the first place.
Which, as noted previously, seems par for the course.
I get Snow White, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella all mixed up. Does that make me racist? Hopefully…
I mean, you almost have to marvel at the fact it’s even possible to screw up Snow White. It’s not exactly a complicated tale. It is, after all, a fable for small children. And to screw it up to such a degree that, based on the trailers, endless reshoots, and car-crash interviews, the people making the thing don’t even seem to grasp the point of the story.
Because they’re much too busy admiring their own politics.
Among the meanings of sophistication:
Our host’s silence shows him to also be a master of modesty. 😀
I have known more than a few narcissists who were seemingly deaf to the implications of their own words.

See, now you got me to watch the whole thing. Imagine people such as those running about our society with attitudes like that. What BenDavid said the other day. Kinda.
Curious how that played out. Did Hornsy (did I spell it rite?) become a nudist mecca? Half a century later, inquiring minds…
Tell me you’ve never read Penthouse Forum letters…

Well, I did see an AI generated Snow White poster that was somewhat like this.
He was born to do this.
(But I do wonder if this is fake, inspired by Car Talk.)
We went to a live musical of cinderella. In order to feminist, they made the prince a total dufus with cinderella totally dominating him. Not clear why she even wanted him. She also gets him to appoint an annoying minor character as the new environmental minister. It was hard to stomach.
Note that even in the original star wars, luke is essentially a serf (almost a slave) on a desert planet, but his sister is a princess–and rather a snotty one too at first.
In the original Star Wars Luke is living and working with his (putative) aunt and uncle, not a serf. The whole brother / sister thing came in the sequels. Given the haphazard evolution of the story line, don’t assume Lucas started with the notion they were siblings.

Even leaving aside the “Gaston is the hero” or Sotckholh Syndrome jokes, if you watch the opening number of Beauty and the Beast with clear eyes it’s pretty clear that Belle is a snotty hipster who thinks she’s too good for her little town because she reads. Most of the Disney Princess movies from The Little Mermaid onward do not present the princesses in a very flattering light.
We went to a live musical of cinderella. In order to feminist, they made the prince a total dufus with cinderella totally dominating him. Not clear why she even wanted him. She also gets him to appoint an annoying minor character as the new environmental minister
Sounds like the revisionist Ever After. I have pointed out to many fans of the film that the Prince is depicted as so feckless that the only possible reason a woman as Stronk and Innapennant as the lead would want him is because…he’s rich and powerful. Making the feminist hero of the film nothing more than a gold-digging trophy wife.
Many soi-disant feminist works of fiction end up inadvertantly revealing universal truths about women rather than the narrative they so desperately want.
Given the earlier renditions of Snow White, where she’s awakened from her sleep by a baby suckling at her breast (not much charming about that prince), you’d think the AWFL scolds would be pushing that version – rather than widdling on something they haven’t the wit to understand.

It must happen a lot these days.
A bit of sad news on gender-critical Twitter today: A young woman who began transition around 13, did the mastectomy and hysterectomy and T shots and phalloplasty, has died of unknown causes.
Her phalloplasty was a disaster from the off, and surgery after surgery couldn’t keep up with the infections and bladder stones and eventual sepsis, which can leave you highly damaged even if you manage to beat it back.
She was adamant until the end that she did the right thing and had no regrets, even as the medical bills piled up and the infections returned and there was more leakage than not, more catheters than not, more pain than not. She hated GCs and frequently flipped them off in her videos.
It’s obvious that the kid was emotionally stunted, probably from the puberty blockers and whatever abuse drove her to transition.
RIP, you poor thing. You were sinned against at every turn by people who knew better but didn’t care.
Aren’t they all? The inevitable grotesquery is just a question of degree.
That.
From the replies:
Now picturing some psychological misfit loudly listing their dysfunctions while clutching a rockface.
I don’t spend much of my time watching Disney princess movies, so I can’t say. But it occurs to me that many of those currently employed to retell classic fables – among them, Ms Zegler – clearly struggle to grasp the points being made – say, regarding vanity and household chores – and will likely have more in common, psychologically, with the villains of the piece.
[ Added: ]
The Grimms themselves wrote and rewrote several versions of the story – there’s one in which the Evil Queen is made to wear hot metal shoes until she dies – and there are any number of subsequent iterations. But as a lesson in vanity and female malice – phenomena not sufficiently recognised, I think – the 1937 Disney version ain’t bad. Certainly, there are scenes that, seen as a child, linger in the memory.
But if those entrusted to retell this moral tale “for a modern audience” are themselves steeped in the conceit that women are by definition righteous beings and yet forever put-upon, and some weird ideal of girl-boss empowerment, then the themes of vanity and female spite don’t sit as well as one might hope. It’s not easy to see how someone like Ms Zegler, for instance – she of middle-finger fame – would relate to the basic moral of the story.
Fanaticism must be its own reward.
Is that the version in which the prince impregnates her while she is still asleep? Or was she impregnated before the spell was put on her? As I recall there is another in which he awakens her by having sexual intercourse with her. I’m not sure how many variations of the story exist, but it seems to be more than just a few.
Thank you very much for posting those links.
I sometimes think that white liberal BLM “defund the police” idiots should be forced to go on ride-alongs until they’ve seen enough murders and random violence to cure them of their delusions.
Few Twitter threads have cried out to be featured on this blog like this one:
I have an illustration of that intersectionality.
Not having a PhD in gender studies, I had to look up WTF “metatmours” are, I am not at all sure if I dare wade through what other utter Pferdescheiße is in that “dictionary”.
Damn my morbid curiosity.
Meanwhile in the UK*, extreme misogyny is terrorism. I am guessing “extreme” means memes as opposed to vanilla misogyny like stabbing women.

That gave me PTSD flashbacks of the fan fiction I was pressured to read back in the 70’s and 80s’.
Love it because of its accurate evocation of a time and place? Not because of sympathy for the criminals, I hope. The growth in the 60’s and 70’s of entertainment that glorified criminals and antisocial types bothered me a great deal. Heinlein’s Crazy Years?

By the way, if you think I’m being unkind to Mr Shayo, do read to the end.
Well it’s a Muldoon post, so what did you expect? He’s still being oppressed by the comment posting thingie.
Not at all. He’ll likely never get the bollocking he deserves
the villains of the piece.
The phenomenon reaches its apex with Frozen. Watched objectively, the movie makes it clear that every bad thing that happens is a direct result of Anna’s selfishness narcissism. She also physically abuses her romantic interest and destroys his belongings carelessly.
They may seem pointless, but it’s unwise to underestimate the impact the Disney Princess movies have had on an entire generation of women.
Jezebel on the awesomeness of female-on-male violence
From the Jezebel article: in 70% of heterosexual relationships where domestic violence is nonreciprocal, it’s committed by the woman.
Percentage of domestic violence shelters in the US and Canada that allow men: 0

I used to enjoy Mark Felton’s history videos, until I watched one about a supposed squadron of black-painted Lancasters which were prepared to drop the atomic bombs on Japan if the B29s weren’t ready in time.
Another youtube channel which I respect (Greg’s engines and airplanes) did a response video which destroyed my confidence in anything Mark Felton’s channel publishes.
snow white is is about the female drive to marry the richest most powerful man she can and for a man to marry the most attractive young fertile woman he can. in the story they both succeed. this story makes biological sense. turning it feminist it makes no sense
There were near-riots in the USA over abortion rights and Justice Kavanaugh. Over this, nothing nearly as dramatic. What could be the reason? Perhaps the people instigating those protests regard this problem as not important? Nah.
This is the way.
dicentra: to avoid future environmental mayhem remind your son that rubbing spit {preferably his own) on nettle stings works almost as well as dock leaf, and is probably easier to acquire. Unless, of course, he happens to be dehydrated and habitually carries dock leaf with him. In which case, of course, tell the envirocrazies to pound sand,
Actually, do the last anyway.
Point of order: the original tales were folk tales. It was Disney that made them suitable for kids. Lots of the original versions were pretty harsh in the punishments for the bad guys.
Grok says that “Jeffrey Marsh was invited to the Democratic National Convention (DNC) to provide behind-the-scenes content and coverage, not to speak at the event. This invitation was part of a broader initiative by the DNC to engage with social media influencers, aiming to connect with younger voters through platforms like TikTok and YouTube.”
At the link they declare “we have surpassed the need for men. men are now obsolete.”
Please. I regularly run into the situation where my lack of grip strength utterly stymies my ability to complete a task. Just yesterday I had to fix a hose connection by cutting off the end of the hose because I couldn’t unscrew the connector from the end of the hose. Which I’d screwed on, BTW.
Lots of the original versions were pretty harsh in the punishments for the bad guys.
dicentra: Creatively gruesome, yes. As a wee slip of a gel I got hold of some unbowdlerized “folk tales” and spent rather a while trying to sleep sitting bolt upright with all the lights on, eyes searching all the corners of the room, NOT Disneyprincess stuff at all.
If you want to know more about the hapless Griffin Sivert, the aforementioned child who was run through a surgical meat grinder, here’s a thread: https://x.com/redcoast/status/1825277205934485721
The number of complications she had is ASTOUNDING.
Also, she had problems with eating disorders and opioid addiction and who knows what else, all of which should have been contraindications for plastic surgery.
The #JusticeForGriffin hashtag includes her plight, but it also calls up issues relating to a dog and a horse of that same name.
Yes, though hardly uncommon among her peers.
This is what can happen when you’re trying to fix a software problem by smashing up the hardware.
We’re all getting older, sigh. But my point was that most of the people buying these motorized gadgets are young and strong enough that the manual versions would be quite sufficient. And cheaper. And would last far longer. I have one manual gadget which is finally wearing out after over 60 years but which cannot be replaced because the made-in-China versions all have poor user reviews on Amazon so I bought a battery operated version.
OnlyFans not panning out?
