Jonathan Kay on woke mysticism and the latest must-have identity niche:
[O]ne of the main themes of the 32-page document is that the task of defining the Two-Spirit concept is (quite literally) beyond the powers of Western language and epistemology. And in any case, the category is almost completely open-ended: The act of proclaiming oneself Two-Spirited could be a statement about one’s gender, or sexual orientation, or both, or neither. Or 2S can be a statement about one’s politics, spirituality, or simply one’s desire to present as “anti-colonial.” […]
While the authors of the report were careful to source their work to Indigenous writers and interviewees, it’s interesting to note that all of the listed societal roles attributed to ancient Two-Spirited people align uncannily with the avant-garde outlook of a white 2022-era environmentalist who’s embraced intersectional conceptions of gender… We are told no fewer than nine times, for instance, that the authors are following an “anti-oppressive” approach. Colonialism is denounced more than a dozen times, including in its “heteronormative” (three times) variant.
Needless to say, the whole thing is a bit of a two-legged stool and, shall we say, not entirely consonant with anthropological evidence.
Libby Emmons on cheated female athletes and transgender overreach:
Judge Robert N. Chatigny demanded that the… attorneys who were representing the women refer to the two biological males as “transgender females,” stating that “referring to these individuals as ‘transgender females’ is consistent with science, common practice and perhaps human decency.” “If a judge dictates what words parties have to use,” attorneys said at the time, “it can bias the case. It is essential that every litigant be able to present their case to an impartial court in the way that they believe is the most accurate and true to the facts. We’ve explained in our brief how the judge’s order prevents us from doing that for our clients.”
It does sound awfully close to begging the question. But as noted before, if you mouth the first lie – that he is somehow she – then other lies and mental tangles will rapidly accumulate. Best, I think, not to give away the store in the first place.
Update, added via the comments:
Mick Hartley on pretensions, power games, and the cost of not pretending:
“I asked [teacher, Christie Hammer] how many sexes there were,” [student, Elizabeth] Leibiger said. “She said, ‘Two.’ I felt under personal attack.” Leibiger then gathered their things and walked out of class because they no longer felt respected.
Note the students’ use of the phrase “weren’t listened to,” despite them being listened to at length and being indulged to a preposterous degree. What they mean, it seems, is weren’t deferred to in our pretensions with sufficient speed and unanimity.
The tolerance of such dishonesty, and the willingness of supposedly grown adults to participate in it, and affirm it, while abasing themselves, is quite extraordinary. It seems to me a more frank and less dementing response to the students might be, “No, dears, you’re not ‘non-binary’ or some supposed third sex. You’re pretentious and neurotic, and your narcissistic psychodrama will not be indulged. Furthermore, your attempts to cow and coerce others – to bully them and have them reprimanded or fired – should make you feel deeply ashamed and an embarrassment to your parents. You pieces of moral garbage.”
Alas, there are few adults left in academia and so pretty much everyone pretends, or at least hides what they really think, and really know. Despite the cooing and rainbows, this is not a happy trajectory.

It may not surprise readers to learn that the documented historical basis for the ETFO’s claims is quite thin. And at one point, the report’s authors even concede that “in traditional Indigenous communities, gender roles were very distinct.”
Actual LOL.
This bit caught my eye:
Presumably, the dupe should simply prostrate himself, and defer to whatever claptrap is piled upon such claims, without being entirely sure why.
My going to a Mexican restaurant and ordering a burrito is “cultural appropriation”. White people, or people of any other non-indigenous, race claiming to be “Two-Spirit” is not. See? Simple. People are so dumb.
How long can a movement be fueled by emotional blackmail alone?
“Agree with every fantastical claim we make or you’ll drive us to self-violence and the blood will be on your hands” must have a limited shelf-life, wouldn’t you think?
There is such a thing as compassion fatigue and their “words are violence” shtick is really getting tiresome—as is their penchant for making shit up as they go along. Two-spirit my ass.
I’ll stick to the fundamentals: you are what your DNA says you are. Period.
“If a judge dictates what words parties have to use,” attorneys said at the time, “it can bias the case. In a recent election that included several judicial candidates, I asked several of them how they would run their offices in regard to cases presented without reasonably sufficient evidence. Not about any specific case mind you, nor how they would rule on a sensitive political subject, just with cases which they acknowledge do exist and that they acknowledge they have the power, through the magistrates that work for them, to dismiss early on. I was trying to get at some sense of dealing with the current environment that forces innocent parties to spend tens of thousands of dollars on defense attorneys simply because someone filed a baseless case without even remotely sufficient evidence. I had my questions deleted, I was met with exasperation by other officials, and even insulted for politely (yes, I was very careful… I can be, you know) pressing the issue by reframing my questions to account for their objections. I was still quite far from asking a kind of question as “specific” as to what a woman is. If in an actual court of law, judges can play these sorts of games, what protections do we have to stop the judiciary from running all over us? I understand why a judicial candidate should not have to answer how they might rule on cases involving context of specific issues but when the language is being attacked like this, we should be able to ask them what they think words mean.
““It’s a huge thing.”
Hmmm.
Not unrelated, “it” is the “N-word of neopronouns”.
Seriously, you transphobes.
Two-Spirit people, on the other hand, are described in the ETFO report as possessing a savant-like power (or “lens”) that channels truths about the nature of the external world.
Magic Brown People!
Magic Brown People!
Yes, absolutely. But then, like so much else, it’s geared to the kinds of people whose attitude regarding Designated Victim Groups, whether racial, sexual or whatever, is fundamentally condescending. The kinds of people who may wish to be seen approving of things like this, or this. Or indeed this.
The indigenous thing cracks me up. In Australia, science classes may not refer to the big bang without also mentioning aboriginal creation myths–but which ones? The native culture was not homogeneous.
In America, there were effeminate men who did not go to war, but they were not recognized as women.
2S is made up purely for inclusiveness without any idea what it actually was historically (if it existed).

consistent with science
Back in the 70’s through 90’s, purveyors of New Age woo attacked science as mere “scientism” when New Age claims were shown to be mere lies and wishful thinking. Starting in the 90’s, the Postmodern Left began claiming that their lies were the real science. And so we have the current situation, in which garbage is constantly fed to students and to the general public. Those who object are shouted down or even have their careers destroyed.
In Australia, science classes may not refer to the big bang without also mentioning aboriginal creation myths–but which ones?
Somewhat related.
The judge and the sadist: judge is practicing psych without a lic. It can be argued that all serious crimes are a mental illness but then we must forego all deterence and punishment.
Isn’t that the argument of criminologists?
Dr Heinz Kiosk — A psychoanalyst and rentaquote pundit who, at every manifestation of anti-social behaviour, is ready to deflect responsibility from the individual perpetrator and onto society as a whole; as reflected in his catchphrase “We are all guilty!”
One of the many characters created over 50 years ago by the uncannily prescient Peter Simple.
Oh looky, another aggressively promoted movie bombs at the box office. Bad script? Ham-fisted messaging? Little actual comedy in a “rom-com”?
No no no, the box office failure was fault of audience to show up … cuz homophobia or something.
Quotes of note
Anyone who wished to decolonize themselves can refrain from driving automobiles, getting on busses , trains or airplanes. They will also have to grow their own food and obstain from taking Western medicines, seeing doctors or nurses or receiving treatment in hospitals. I think that’s a good compromise.
Quotes of note
I think that pretty much covers it.
Quotes of note
Having given the matter some thought, I still can’t imagine the circumstances in which I’d actually pay money to watch a gay rom-com. Or indeed any kind of rom-com. To say nothing of a rom-com made by a tiresome twat.
I denounce myself.
Or indeed any kind of rom-com.
I keep wondering who the movie makers thought their audience would be? “Rom-com”s assume women – either as a gaggle of friends or the ones who drag their husbands and boyfriends along.
And outside of slash fanfic, I can’t think of many women who want to see an “R” rated, gay rom-com.
I pay in time and money to attend movies that entertain.
“We are all guilty!”
Well, exactly. Why do such people find it so hard to understand and accommodate those of us who advocate severe punishment of such people? Aren’t we all…them, us, everybody just as guilty of existing in a different way of being…just like Judge Chatigny or Dr. Kiosk? Who are they to judge us? They seem to think they’re the only ones who have thought these things through but they seem to have stopped their thinking at a convenient (for them) point.
I pay in time and money to attend movies that entertain.
Well, quite. But apparently, we must now go to the cinema to support causes, or swear fealty or something. Which actually sounds like a terrible reason to go to the cinema. Or, from where I stand, not a reason at all.
“We are all guilty!”
When they say “we” they really mean “everybody but we bien pensants“.
Having given the matter some thought, I still can’t imagine the circumstances in which I’d actually pay money to watch a gay rom-com. Or indeed any kind of rom-com.
I thought that was one of the perks (perqs?) of being gay, not getting dragged off to see rom-coms. That and not having to answer the question, “Does this dress make me look fat?”. Granted, it’s not like I dodged a bullet or anything, but still…

Heh. I’ve got Mrs WTP on the phone. She’d like a word.
Allen says that the dispute started when the trans student made an inappropriate comment while members of the volleyball team were getting changed.
Nobody was complaining (on the record) about the creep being in the room when they were getting changed. When the creep makes creepy remarks while watching the girls get changed, and some girls finally complain about it, the girls themselves get investigated for Hate, for “intimidating him for his sexuality” as Eddie Izzard would put it.
https://www.wcax.com/2022/09/28/randolph-high-school-investigating-gender-locker-room-dispute/
Are they really talking about rooms conflicting with somebody’s gender identity? Depending on your sex, you might be worried to find a urinal/tampon dispenser in your changing area, but that’s not because of a phobia of those amenities, it’s fear that you’ve gone into the wrong place and somebody might walk in and find you there at any moment. It’s about the people you can expect to find in the locker room, not the locker room itself.
Stated in terms of people: (negative formulation) – a transgender student shouldn’t be required to change with people who are the wrong sex as far as they’re concerned. (Of course, that’s not a right that mere female volleyball players have). With the rule written negatively, the school isn’t obliged to let the creep change with the girls as long as he can change separately from the boys.
Stated in terms of people: (positive formulation) – a transgender student should be allowed to change with people of the sex of their choice. That’s the way the school interpreted it, that the creep has not only the right to change separately from icky boys and dysphoria-inducing urinals, not only has access to an empty girls’ locker room with all its alluring gender-affirming associations, but has access to girls themselves in their vulnerable high-trust spaces.
Thanks for the warning, crazy person.
Allen says that the dispute started when the trans student made an inappropriate comment while members of the volleyball team were getting changed.
But nobody reports what the comment was.
Quotes of note
So here is my ‘back of the envelope’ calculation:
Adult population of United States – about 258 Million
Percentage of population which identify (officially) as LGBTQ – and remaining alphabet – 10%
Subpercentage of your core target audience that could be expected to support such a ground breaking historic rom-com – 10%
Average movie ticket price for a weekend showing – $15
Optimistic weekend gross – $ 38.7 million.
Ergo absolutely no “support” needed from any other demographic or allies.
Locker rooms: A few years ago in NC there was a push to make it illegal to keep trans out of female locker rooms/rest rooms (or to make them all neutral, can’t remember). Defenders of this kept saying “oh, but bathrooms have stalls, what is your problem?” as if no such thing as communal showers or changing areas existed anywhere. As if stalls were perfectly private. As if stall doors never malfunctioned. Others would hold up the example of coed showers on some college campus’, ignoring that students chose to sign up for a coed dorm, in a place full of mostly middle/upper class kids, not homeless people or gangs. Or they would say “taking pictures is already illegal”, ignoring leering. Or pretending that the trans person would be almost fully feminine looking, instead of having a beard and still having a dick. It was straw men (women?) all the way down. And when asked about men/boys who would game the system, they pooh-poohed that no one would do that. huh
One way to tell that something is nuts is to hold up the limiting case. In the case of bathrooms, we can ask: if boys can be in the girls locker room, why do high school students (or anyone really) need to wear clothes at all?
Defenders of this kept saying “oh, but bathrooms have stalls, what is your problem?” as if no such thing as communal showers or changing areas existed anywhere
There are undoubtedly plenty of gender-questioning people who just want private cubicles. In general there are a lot more high school- and college-aged Americans who’ve never had, for example, to share a bedroom or bathroom with siblings – they’re more used to having their own space, and that’s ok.
These aren’t entirely private spaces anyway. Changing rooms in clothes stores are private spaces for men, who just want to make sure the jeans fit so they don’t have to set foot in a clothes store for another year. But they’re communal spaces for women who want to show each other the outfits and talk about the outfits and Instagram the outfits and so on. Locker rooms in sports are communal male spaces, as feminists have sometimes been known to remark. And locker rooms are also communal female spaces.
The transgender activists that have come up here don’t seem to be the timid souls who just want a private cubicle. They’re the ones who want access to the sex-specific communal spaces.

Ah, but it’s authentic academic gibberish, from the mouth of Professor Gabby Johnson.
Today’s word is trustee:
The overlap of trans activism and paedophilic leanings is, I think, getting harder to miss.
Not unrelated, “it” is the “N-word of neopronouns”.
“It” is standard English for a person whose sex (or gender, if you will) is not known to the speaker … and is also used when the sex is known:

Who could it be? Believe it or not, it’s just me.

“The Telegraph’s attacks on Mermaids are damaging trust”
Oh, so it’s not the safeguarding issues and the appointment of apologists for paedophilia that’s causing concern for Pink News, but “attacks” (or, rather more accurately, journalists bringing said issues to the attention of the public) from the Telegraph that’s the problem. Fuck off, Pink News, fuck right off.
The overlap of trans activism and paedophilic leanings is, I think, getting harder to miss.
Only transphobes who need to do better and educate themselves would think that.

I’m sure he does know it. For instance,
It’s possible that the old correctives to such behaviour may make a comeback. It wouldn’t be unthinkable.
