She looks about the age to have her wisdom teeth removed. I remember being 17 and waking up afterward, seeing the oral surgeon in the hallway, getting up and trying to shake his hand for a job well done. I was so embarrassed after fully waking that I didn’t want to ever go back to have the stitches removed.
My sister told the oral surgeon, as she was doping off to never-never land, that he looked like Tom Selleck. SHE never wanted to back to see him, either!

When I was cadet at West Point, I had gone to the dentist there who in turn told me that I would probably need to have my wisdom teeth taken out eventually. My sister had had hers taken out before I went to the un-college, and her experience had been absolutely horrible.
So, I told the dentist, sure take them out. He asked if I wanted to schedule multiple visits to do that, but I remembered what an upperclass cadet had put on his door when I was a plebe: “If you are going to be here anyways, you may as well suck it down to the max.” So, I told him to pull all 4 at once.
So, the day happens. He’s going to give me an IV to put me out for the oral surgery, but (this was 1979, IIRC) he was going to use laughing gas to put me in a relaxed state prior to inserting the IV. (I’ll opine that cadets were probably used as training carcasses for the medical staff, but I have no direct knowledge that was actually the case.)
So, the dentist put the mask on my face, asks me how much I weighted, adjusts the valve, and turns on the nitrous oxide. He mentions that I should tell him when I start feeling odd and then starts to fiddle with the tools for the upcoming operation. A few minutes pass and I haven’t said anything; he asks me how I feel, and I tell him that I feel pretty much the same. He then slightly increases the gas flow and reminds me to tell him when I start feeling odd/different. Maybe 5 more minutes pass and he asks me again, since I still haven’t said anything. “No sir, I still feel the same.” was my reply.
He then goes to the valve and turns it to, if not the max, very close to it. I can feel the laughing gas hitting my face in the mask. Very shortly thereafter, I felt as if a scan line was rising from the floor and everything below the scan line felt weird and everything above it felt the same. Once the notional scan line crossed my face, I had a rather stupid grin (which he could see, given the mask).
He then asked how I felt. “Oh, yes sir, I feel different!” was my reply. “Great.” he said in a rather annoyed tone.
Next thing I knew, I didn’t have any wisdom teeth in my mouth. I was eating solid food either that night or the next day.

Most people should not overshare, even if normal. Perhaps you have had the experience of close friends who open up and tell you all the weird thoughts they have, conspiracy theories that 9/11 was an inside job, fetishes they have, their claims about healing crystals, fear of contamination in their food, whatever. There are things you really should not share. The libsoftiktok seem to be compelled to share their innermost weirdness as if it was a good thing, and not just with their friends but with the world. No thanks, really.

From the amount of gauze in her mouth, it was not just a filling or root canal. One of the disadvantages of locals for dental or other procedures is that the patient can still fight and make the procedure longer and increase the chance of something going south, for example, trying to do a root canal and the unfortunate on the unfunny side of the drill not keep the yap open.
Conscious sedation, as the gal in the video appears to have had, generally using Diprivan or Versed, eliminates this problem and has the added benefit of rapid onset and short half life (so quick recovery) as well as giving retrograde amnesia for the event. Were it not for the video she would never have known her YMCA angst.
On this side of the pond we even often do a range of surgical procedures with locals, but also often with conscious sedation as well because having a patient sit up or move about is usually counterproductive, and it eliminates the need for using general anaesthetic which is generally always riskier.
If the NHS isn’t using conscious sedation, your colonoscopies must be high adventure.
Sedation, especially for older people, carries a risk of mental fogginess for weeks to months. I actually had a colonoscopy in my 20s with just local and it was not a big deal. That assumes you don’t mind people playing with your butt while you are awake. Wisdom teeth, however, a very different matter. Had a biopsy of my prostate where the local anesthetic didn’t work very well and it is seared in my memory. Thank god for anesthesia.

For Christmas in 1990*, I got four wisdom teeth removed in one operation. One of the teeth was impacted and took some extra effort, so I got some extra happy juice to keep me out of it until the oral surgeon was done.
According to my mother, I spent an hour in Recovery raving in Spanish. Evidently I really didn’t like the stuffed dog they gave me to hold on to, but I refused to let anybody take the dog away, either. They kicked us out after a while because they needed the recovery room for the next patient, but I was still on another planet. I don’t remember much until I woke up on the couch in the living room sometime that afternoon.
Thankfully this was 1990 and I didn’t have to worry about my ravings being posted for the entertainment of strangers.
* This was not at the top of my Xmas list; insurance changes kicked in 1/1/91 that would make the procedure much more expensive.

It wasn’t long after colon surgery to remove a small cancerous mass that my mother slipped into dementia. I never thought she fully recovered from the anesthesia. She had had a problem recovering from whatever they used back in the pre-war period following a dental procedure. She said they were worried she wouldn’t/couldn’t wake up. At the last minute before calling further expertise she came-to. I worry that that stuff has more issues than we hear about.

Women are always going to woman, so they will still have their predisposition toward fields such as child care and teaching while also seeking status in their social hierarchy. Between Zoom giving parents a shocking window into what was going on in their kids’ classroom, to all manner of teacher/administrator/school board member hubris on parade on social media, parents are not as isolated thinking “this has got to be a one-off”.

Long term surveys of happiness/contentment with life have shown that men have had a fairly steady level of positive affect for 70+ yrs. Women’s happiness/contentment has been steadily going down. How could this be? Men tend to focus their judgement of things on their actions and accomplishments. If something is too hard for how much they want to work, they accept that tradeoff and don’t keep thinking about it.
Women, the surveys found, are happier the more traditional their family arrangement–the husband goes to work and she stays home with the kids and runs the household/social life. The fewer children and the fewer marriages and the more women work, the unhappier they are. Becoming just like men (career) did NOT make them happier, but less happy.
Women find themselves, their meaning, in relationships, and that is fine, but in the absence of relationships (think single urban women) if they look inside they do not find anything. A career does not satisfy because it is not a relationship. This is why single urban women are so angry and screechy.

Speaking of defective people, the shooting of repeat offender Patrick Lyoya (when he tried to take away a cop’s Taser) reminded me of a conversation I had in the early 80’s with a man who insisted that the right thing to do when pulled over was not to stay in your car with your hands on the wheel where they can be seen, but instead to immediately get out of the car so that you can “face the officer as an equal”. That was just one of many small steps in concluding that there was something very wrong with the fan subculture.

My guess is the shooter(s) watched far too many gangsta rap videos.
