So, anyway, as you may have heard, at a recent awards ceremony, a black millionaire celebrity slapped another black millionaire celebrity. The root cause, however, has only now been discovered:
This is about a much larger systemic issue rooted in white supremacist culture designed to police the behaviour of Blacks amongst the who’s who in Hollywood and beyond.
Respectability politics suggest that equity and fair treatment require that Black people — both inside and outside of Hollywood — conduct ourselves in a manner deemed acceptable to whites. Furthermore, expressing any emotion other than complacence, apathy, or agreeance directly violates those norms, disqualifying Black people from receiving the same equitable treatment that whites enjoy as a birthright. And sadly, there is a large group of Blacks who have internalised this toxic messaging.
You see, when Mr Will Smith, a black millionaire celebrity, publicly assaults Mr Chris Rock, another black millionaire celebrity, on live television, and is promptly given a prestigious award, for which he is applauded, and is then seen celebrating triumphantly at the award after-party, this is somehow proof of victimhood, of being racially “policed” by “respectability politics” and other works of the White Devil. Mr Smith, we’re told, is “not receiving the same equitable treatment that Whites enjoy as a birthright.”
Readers will note the implication that any black viewers who regard Mr Smith’s behaviour as not entirely optimal are merely parroting views “deemed acceptable to whites,” having somehow “internalised” the “toxic messaging” of “white supremacist culture.” For what it’s worth, I don’t have strong feelings on the incident one way or the other – it all seemed rather farcical – but I doubt my first impulse would be to suggest that black people who disapproved, however much or little, are merely aping whitey and don’t know their own minds. But such is wokeness.
The author of the piece, published in Forbes, is Maia Niguel Hoskin, a “writer, activist, and college professor,” whose areas of supposed expertise include “oppression, difference and mental health,” including “racial battle fatigue,” and who claims, modestly, to “facilitate cultural consciousness.” As a self-styled “speaker of truth,” she is, of course, schooled in “critical race theory.”
And so, Ms Hoskin tells us that she does not condone violence, while insisting that responsibility for violence must be shifted from those who indulge in it, provided they are black, and attributed instead to the insidious, all-pervasive, yet oddly nebulous, power of pallor. The “racist system that was designed to incubate his and so many others’ frustrations.” And which, in ways never quite specified, compels very rich comedians to tell bad jokes, and makes very rich actors slap the people who tell them. This, we’re assured, is “white supremacist culture.”
And the way to be scrupulously “anti-racist” is to erase any agency or expectation of self-possession from people with brown skin.

I’m hardly an avid follower of celebrity gossip, and it would’ve been a full-time job to keep track of the subsequent, rapidly multiplying memes – which covered a comical range of topics, from customer service to pizza toppings. But I didn’t spot any obviously racialised and unsavoury ones. In fact, the only memes and comments I saw with racial connotations were from people mocking the woke takes that were bound to come from the chorus of parasitic race hustlers. People very much like Ms Hoskin.
Why is it, that the prominent philosophers of the current era all appear to be wimminzes? Impossible to describe them as sages, there are simply too many of them flooding the market and all seem to be blighted by the narrow vision which their obsessions decree.

2) 78 cents/dollar for women’s pay. In fact a) single urban women in their 20s make more than single urban men, b) most of the gap is due to women having children and staying home (missing years of seniority), c) women retire younger, work fewer hours, less overtime, less travel, and safer jobs.
3) racism is worse than ever
4) capitalism exploits workers (as if people didn’t have to work in socialist countries). The controlled experiment of E & W germany shows how much misery communism can create.
5) Climate change: even the IPCC reports, as exaggerated as they are, have to make a big deal about larger rain events and imaginary sea level rise to scare you.
6) corollary of 5, that we can just shut off fossil fuels and switch to renewables.
When you pursue the policies implied by these lies, you destroy civilization.
The normal pattern is that when a black behaves in a stereotypically black way, you’re racist for noticing it, or for proposing any ultimate cause other than white racism.

I must be thick because I didn’t hear an insult in what Chris Rock said. It sounded like typical observational humor: Jada is actor, has bald head. Demi Moore had bald head in GI Jane. Hollywood is into remakes of action movies with POC in starring roles. Ergo – Jada is ready for the part because she already has the bald head.
Rock didn’t mention Jada’s scalp condition, or the “open” state of her marriage to Smith. So where is the grounds for Smith’s violent defense? Rock did call attention to Jada’s bald head, but she was not trying to hide it.

We’ve seen so many of these things now, all eerily interchangeable, as if these self-imagined radicals were merely regurgitating the same set of lecture notes. And they are, I think, interesting only for reasons that are presumably unintended.
For instance, one gets the impression that, despite the posturing, the aim isn’t social harmony of some kind, but rather personal status. Which is to say, superiority, a pecking order. And so, there’s the tribalism, the invocation of some magical otherness, and the default tone of scolding, and the signature body language, and the curious absence of any acknowledgement or expectation of reciprocation. (Once you’ve spotted its absence, you may notice that this rather telling detail is practically a default.)

I really need to make more time for books. Currently, my reading queue also includes books about stoicism (mainly Epictetus, Seneca, Marcus Aurelius) and Eric Hoffer’s The True Believer — all recommended by my son, who is much smarter and better-read than I am.

Chris Rock quite deliberately chose to bite his tongue. I’ve no doubt he could have delivered five or six different lines that would absolutely have become the talk of the nation, but he had enough sense of time and place, and enough maturity, to decide that he would just keep the show moving.

Kolakowski’s books that I am most familiar with are Main Currents of Marxism, a devastatingly critical 1200 page survey of Marxism, and My Correct Views About Everything (love that title), essays on everything from socialism to God.

I’m puzzled. Elsewhere it’s alleged the Z symbol stands for “zapad” (“west”) and is painted on the T67s and battle-taxis to remind everyone that’s where they’re headed.
But there’s no Z in Cyrillic. The buzzy-zed sound in “zapad” is the character 3. (There are characters for the phonemes “ts” and “zh” too…when I first saw my name transliterated the J was a combination “dzh”. And of course my last name, phonetically “vayt”, came out “Baum” because lower-case y and t are u and m.)

“West is indeed” Запад, the letter З being “Ze”, oddly enough. The Roman “Z” has nothing to do with going west, just a tactical marking to distinguish Russian equipment from Ukrainian to reduce friendly fire incidents given they are using much the same stuff.
If you look at pictures of allied equipment from Iraq, for instance, there are similar markings to help SPC Baggadonuts in all the excitement tell whether a tank was Challenger or T-72.

I know only a handful of families (including my cousin’s) with multiple offspring where one is gay/lesbian. Yet now there are even Facebook groups with large memberships where people claim to have 2 or more kids are “queer” with any number of the 57 genders. It’s like it’s the new social competition. Parents are no longer bragging about their kid’s actual achievements, but their identity-du-jour.
