Service With A Snarl
Another candidate for our not-entirely-suited-to-the-job file:
The elderly couple ordered a “carefully budgeted” $50 of groceries to be delivered to their home last Sunday… Nothing was amiss until they went outside to meet the driver, Tara, for fear that she might struggle with her vehicle in their snow-covered driveway. When they opened the front door, Tara yelled at them… while rocking her vehicle back and forth in the driveway.
It turned out the issue wasn’t snow.
The ostensible cause of Tara’s mental crisis can be viewed here.

wokeness is gaslighting
I forget who coined the phrase “political correctness is a war on noticing”.
No reason that “lock them up” cannot be applied to the mentally ill, albeit with pleasant facilities and kinder staff.
I’m sorry to say there are no such facilities, none at least that I’ve ever seen or heard of.
The facilities are often understaffed, with those employed having to work extra long hours
See “Western State” for an unfortunate but not atypical example.
I forget who coined the phrase “political correctness is a war on noticing”.
For instance.
If it weren’t actually happening, and rapidly metastasizing, it might be darkly funny. And so, progress, so defined, entails an ever-growing list of realities to which one must never refer, and an ever-growing list of lies one must remember to mouth, or at least not challenge, in order to avoid gasps of indignation and possible unemployment.
Have you been paying attention at all the last 18 months?
Have you been paying attention to the frightening rise in violence?
..
I forget who coined the phrase “political correctness is a war on noticing”.
That was Steve Sailer, well-known thought criminal.
Yet another “anti-violence outreach worker” has been charged with murder. Maybe their earlier felonies should have been taken more seriously.

Good news, everyone! Researchers say anyone can be a neurosurgeon or rocket scientist!
I see. Just apply themselves.
Of course. Note to self – avoid rocket flights and neurosurgery in the future.

I think you can get your neurosurgery and aerospace engineering degrees here. If you apply yourselves.
Of course. Note to self – avoid rocket flights and neurosurgery in the future.
Already thinking that way, thanks to the continuing dumbing-down of professions via racial quotas.
There is a small kernel of truth, in that many highly accomplished people in the STEM fields have no more wisdom than any random street sample, and many tech geeks are unable to discern, much less appreciate, subtleties of human behavior. However, that does not erase the fact that your average person in the STEM fields is far more able to understand and appreciate literature than your average English major is able to get a passing grade in a STEM field class.
Heh. What I should have said.
Also notice the very large and very absent elephant in the room in that article.
Maybe because it’s a dead horse that I will not stop beating until there’s some significant recognition that it’s dead…The elephant IN the room is, again, the insanity rife in the psychiatric profession and its fellow travelers. The elephant that many MDs of all stripes will acknowledge, when pushed, but are afraid to speak up about. And now it’s bled into pediatrics as well. Pathetic.
Apparently someone just notified the mayor of San Francisco.
She will make whatever noises might get her reelected, but will never stop seeking to liberate criminals from the “oppression” of police and courts and prisons. She will continue to do as much evil as she thinks she can get away with.
The NYC subway system has always been ever thus
After Giulianni and up until my last visit in 2014, I have always felt safe, relatively speaking of course it is NYC, in the subway there. No worse than on the street. Now I never travell the odd hours to the odd places but most places any tourist or business person would/should need to go has felt as “normal” as the rest of NYC. Not that I haven’t seen interesting things. Like a big, intimidating looking white supremecist with nazi tattos and such getting off at a stop in Haarlem. Never made the news, though.
The elephant IN the room is, again, the insanity rife in the psychiatric profession and its fellow travelers.
The first thing I noticed was that my fellow students who were majoring in psychology tended to be, well, more than a little strange.
Later I learned that most “sex researchers” had an axe to grind, and their research was usually designed to find the results they wanted (usually that every unusual sexual practice, up to and including child molestation and sex with animals) was entirely normal.
Similarly, all those professors studying crime who (surprise!) conclude that crime is caused by “social injustice” and that prisons are useless.
But a new study suggests aerospace engineers and brain surgeons are not necessarily brighter than the general population – and that a career in either field is within anyone’s reach if they apply themselves.
I agree with pst in that there is a small kernel of truth in this statement. The operative term is “apply themselves”, and all that entails. I don’t think it takes a supergenius to become proficient in higher mathematics, especially at the undergrad level, which lays the foundation for the graduate level courses. Those classes are all about working hundreds of homework problems until your brain develops muscle memory like someone learning to kick goals or shoot baskets. Speaking as a data point of one, I don’t think I have a super high IQ, but I sure as heck had the drive and desire to “apply myself” by doing all those damned homework problems in calculus and differential equations. And I guess my IQ was high enough that eventually, something clicked and hey! I understood. And it was an awesome feeling. But applying myself meant hours of work when I could have been playing, or socializing (shudder), or doing any number of other things, because I am not a savant when it comes to numbers. Looking at the graphic pst posted above, of the hours spent on homework, gives a glimpse as to who is more likely to “apply themselves”. Not all Asians are supergeniuses, but culturally they sure as hell are encouraged to act like it, and have the two parent families to care about and enforce it.
And there’s where I agree with Muldoon and WTP – studies like that one will be used to continue to water down STEM fields to the point where you have doctors and engineers who have no clue about what they are doing – they just tick a DIE (Diversity, Inclusion, Equity) box and make the employer look good. But the more DIE administrators and consultants these places hire, the more likely they will never look good, no matter how many DIE boxes their employees tick. And eventually, they will run out of the people who actually know what they are doing. This whole Woke edifice is built on the assumption that the people who know how to make things work will always be there shoring things up and covering for the incompetents and the useless.
Anyone can be a neurosurgeon: hahahaha. This is the end-game of woke policies–no criteria for jobs at all. Just quotas. What could go wrong? Oh, sorry, the woke say consequences are just a patriarchal white supremacist conspiracy. I am pretty smart. I have met people who are much much much smarter than me. I am just smart enough to grasp genius when I meet one. There is no way you can replace such a person with random. Even if not “smart” per se, a neurosurgeon has years and years of training and high discipline. Lacking discipline disqualifies you for the job.
I saw someone claim that locking people up doesn’t prevent crime. huh. It helps in 2 ways. The really bad guys need to be put away where they can’t kill again. The low level criminals need to get the message that it is not worth the risk and that means certainty of getting caught. Letting them out the next day sends the opposite message. The cash bail system by the way empowers bail bondsmen to go looking for you if you don’t show up for trial. Of course spending months in jail for shoplifting while awaiting trial is not good but elim cash bail is not the solution.
Anyone can be a neurosurgeon: hahahaha.
The cult of liberalism insists that cognitive differences have no biological basis: Everyone is equal and differences can only be attributable to a lack of “social justice”.
But a new study suggests aerospace engineers and brain surgeons are not necessarily brighter than the general population – and that a career in either field is within anyone’s reach if they apply themselves.
Wait, what? I thought making an individual’s own efforts central to their success or failure was the epitome of White Supremacy.

Did George Orwell get it right or not?
The really bad guys need to be put away where they can’t kill again…
And attempted murder should be treated almost as harshly as actual murder. It’s amazing how many cases of attempted murder get downgraded to a lesser charge.
…The low level criminals need to get the message that it is not worth the risk and that means certainty of getting caught.
Yes. Maximizing the likelihood of being caught and punished is at least as important as the severity of the punishment.
Wait, what? I thought making an individual’s own efforts central to their success or failure was the epitome of White Supremacy.
It is the classic bait-and-switch of the left. Crime is just the result of oppression but they have no proof of or cure for oppression–nevertheless we are going to let criminals go BEFORE we cure oppression. Switch to electric cars! But we are shutting down all the reliable electricity sources. Housing is not affordable! But not giving permits for new housing. etc.
Researchers say anyone can be a neurosurgeon or rocket scientist!
Interesting that said researchers conflate “applying oneself” with “ensuring access.” Progressive solutions are designed to fail.

Again, socialism is a cargo cult. They think if you just “qualify”…and by “qualify” they mean sit in some previous classroom…or simply be enrolled to sit there, you don’t actually have to sit there…that would be silly…to sit in a classroom and be present while things are spoken, it is the same as learning those things. That it’s only racism…raaaaaycism…that throws off the sum total melanin in every profession and or socioeconomic strata. This is obvious to those who have done the analysis*. Other people understand this, right?

It’s a metaphor. You may have heard of them.
You mean like this? 😀
Darn. I was hoping to get a reaction. I was surprised and delighted when, many years ago, I learned the linguistic roots of “metaphor” and that even today Greeks use that word in connection with transportation. Supposedly you can find airport luggage carts labeled as such. I’d love to be photographed hauling a huge pile of books on such a cart.
The idea that anyone can do any job is not even consistent with how the Left views things. They do not presume that any random person can become a star basketball player (even if black), a great singer, or top guitar player. They assume that natural talent and hard work are required in those domains.
I saw a twitter post extolling the wonderful life of the Inca. He said they were so great they didn’t even need money–they just bartered for things. OMG does he not realize how impossible it would be to find someone who could barter your ability to do accounting for a couch? Or your nursing skills for a car? Every civilization ever has come up with money of some sort.

The Western left’s tendency to kneel in worshipful adoration before every culture other than our own is a very strange thing.

If only we practiced child sacrifice, we could be great too.
The wages of wokeness: They have cards at my doctor’s office now to tell them if you’d prefer not to be weighed.
Because some fat people get upset if you do not participate in their delusion that corpulence is perfectly healthy.

From what I’ve heard the Inca had a somewhat totalitarian theocracy, which you would think would horrify the left. Until you realize that a chief motivation of the left is not so much sincere attraction to other cultures as hatred of their own.
If only we practiced child sacrifice, we could be great too.
We do, we just don’t call them children. Maybe that’s what we’re doing wrong – do like the Inca and wait until after they’re born.
The Left does love them some Islamic theocracy though, acknowledging the greatness of their prophet, joining in their subjugation of their women (calling it freedom!), pretending not to know about what their holy book says about teh gays, or even what they think of subSaharan Africans. I don’t hear many calling Allah a sky fairy, either. This is probably more out of fear of beheading, or being called racist, since this particular religion has branded itself a race, than mere hatred of their own culture, although that’s a big part, no doubt.
Not even sure where I used to see that commenter.
Protein Wisdom, and Patterico, and Insty, and maybe Althouse. Not sure on the latter.
Think of Hal, but using a kind of obnoxious baby talk.
Yeah, that’s a bit harsh. And a stretch. Far more amusing gadfly. Gadflies, for all their faults, have their place and usefulness. YMMV I suppose. Mere mention of his name can cause Patterico to bust an aneurism. Especially in concert with the name “Trump”.

Wrong.
Protein Wisdom, and Patterico, and Insty, and maybe Althouse. Not sure on the latter.
I used to read all of them frequently. I think Instapundit was better when it didn’t have a comment thread. Still read Insty and Althouse regularly, Protein Wisdom rarely. Patterico not at all.
Mere mention of his name can cause Patterico to bust an aneurism. Especially in concert with the name “Trump”.
Haven’t read Patterico in years. Somehow he ceased to be fun and enlightening to read.
I used to read all of them frequently.
Time to lament the passing of many fine blogs. Including PC David Copperfield and Inspector Gadget. (The latter does still have a Twitter account, although that’s not the same.) Also various Continental blogs.
Until you realize that a chief motivation of the left is not so much sincere attraction to other cultures as hatred of their own.
It is a shit test by bitches we should have dumped long ago, metastasized into a full-on program of 24/7 Nurse Ratched grade ballcutting.
What have we come to? Soldier who injured face after falling on her rifle during night exercises awarded €36,000 damages
So, who’s up for some Hawkstone Lager?
*yeah, I’m stirring s*** again. Sorry ’bout that*
It’s on Amazon UK, and is “Hewn from the mineral-rich bedrock of the Cotswold Hills, The Hawkstone, a Neolithic standing stone which gives our lager its name has stood for generations. The Cotswold Brash soil in which it rests is hard and unforgiving. But for those who persist (like Jeremy Clarkson)”
Sadly, not on Jeff’s US website…
Hawkstone Lager
I rate this story true . But…I know how I know but how did they know?
Yeah, that’s a bit harsh.
Harsh? I was being kind given that his/her/its sole purpose was/is to throw turds into the punch bowl.

Well said. Right off the top of my head, I can think of numerous STEM people who got their degrees and launched their careers, and then later also became successful authors of fiction. But none of the reverse. Asimov, Clarke, Heinlein, Benford, Wolfe, Pournelle…
What have we come to?
Private Aoife Burke – real-she or he-she?
To be fair, Brian May went from massive musical success to a PhD in astrophysics…
