Speaking of degenerates…
When I say “degenerates” I mean both the thugs who commit these brutal crimes and the politicians who protect them.
The furtive looks and sotto voce voice of the “unhappy educator” tells me, that in her mind she is a heroine, fighting the evil forces of repression, sticking it to the Man!
What a loon.
Why do I get the imoression that Friar Tuck’s (who has zero boobage) kvetching about a freeking bra is just LARPing based on something a woman overheard said ?

I suppose it is just easier to bitch about your trendy oversize internet bought glasses than get off your tuchas and go to an optical shop to find glasses that fit.

For a while, back in the day, Boxxy became a meme. You could find videos collecting clips of funny and silly things on the internet, some of which began with a five-second clip of her announcing “My name is Boxxy!” followed by, say, a chubby teen pretending to be a Jedi light saber expert.
Thank you.

glasses are racist
Is she under the impression that the bridge of the glasses is supposed to rest on the bridge of her nose? I mean … that’s going to put the lenses really close to your eyes. Close enough that your eyelashes will probably touch them and get them oily. Now, I do have a nose-bridge, and yet the nose-pads leave marks on my nose just like the marks on her nose. I notice that her glasses keep sliding down — that’s because the ear-pieces aren’t adjusted correctly.
And since her complaint is that glasses are racist because they were invented in Europe, maybe she shouldn’t support racism by wearing them. Of course, she’s a high myope, so that may not work so well for her, but isn’t fighting racism worth some inconvenience?
She should sue the eyeglasses industrial conglomerate. Might collect one dollar and NINE CENTS

Quip aside, though, this is not a healthy way to be. When you’re defining your own fashionable pretensions and racial neuroticism, and assumptions of collective racial guilt, i.e., guilt for things that predate your own existence, as “becoming an authentic person,” then something is awry. Screws are rattling loose.
LCD screens have improved everything, especially when they [checks note cards] replace glass doors in convenience stores.
The normal messaging to white people is that nothing is real that’s bigger than the individual. You might feel, or think you feel, that nations are real, that where people come from makes a difference, that your birth makes you part of something bigger than yourself, that you’ve inherited something different than foreigners have inherited. But what you’re feeling is at best a sentimental illusion. And at worst your feelings make you complicit in a conspiracy against non-whites who have just as much right – as individuals – to what you maliglantly consider to belong to “your people”.
And haven’t you heard about the discovery that an African sailor was living in Gothenburg in 1600, and how this debunks the notion of Swedish national purity and historical continuity, indeed the very notion that you could recognize a Swede as a Swede without even seeing his passport or his football shirt.
So coming from that direction, it’s interesting to hear language that makes so much of the reality of feelings associated with your ancestry, that those feelings represent something real and outside your mind that you can’t make go away or disassociate from yourself by an individual act of self-definition.
the very notion that you could recognize a Swede as a Swede without even seeing his passport or his football shirt.
I very much doubt that the people most susceptible to this claptrap – largely middle-class leftist women – can be reasoned out of it. It’s as if they want to be broken and actively seek out brokenness. And then try to inflict that dysfunction on others.
So coming from that direction, it’s interesting to hear language that makes so much of the reality of feelings associated with your ancestry
It is interesting and instructive to examine the fraudulent “Out of Africa” claims that the Greeks stole their philosophy and science from Egypt (and that those Egyptians were black). The claims are used to boost the self esteem of black Americans, but if Greeks object to these lies, they are condemned for “clinging” to a “false pride” in ancestors–that is, a pride in things that they themselves did not accomplish. Black Americans who cannot get passing grades in introductory math and science classes are entitled to take pride in false claims of super-accomplished ancient ancestors, but Greeks who get college degrees must not be proud of what their ancestors did indeed accomplish.
It has gotten to the point where I am developing a deep racist prejudice. Whenever I scroll through FB or the news or similar and I see the face of a middle aged white woman whom I don’t recognize, I cringe. Even some that I do recognize. Some (probably former at this point) friends even look different to me now that they’ve informed the world on what it is that they (think) they know.
middle aged white woman whom I don’t recognize, I cringe.
As an aside, I’m beginning to think there might be some odd connection between women of pallor being perhaps the most kowtowed to group in all of human history and their seeming “Karening” trends.
However, that would require more thought, and I’m going fishing, so there.

ooooh!
I have a theory that white men have become such pushovers, defaulting to letting women have their way in all but the most extreme circumstances (and for many, even then) that white women think that they can change the world simply by whining. And it looks more and more like they may be right. Though not always, or even often, in the way they intended.
What could possibly go wrong ?
Debby Shelley was astounded.

Jess is replaying the role of the traditional housewife who restricts her observations to domestic matters, and defers to her husband in external matters like money and politics.
And the hippy chick who strives to use collective pronouns isn’t safe out in the world, because if you can’t tell the difference between yourself and others, and between friends and strangers, then you’re going to get taken advantage of. But sweet, empathetic, optimistic young women like this can be good at looking after children.
These possibilities for living out feminine tendencies are now socially taboo and assumed in all cases to be domestic abuse and a waste of what could have been a good cubicle career.
Instead we have women like Jess submitting to the racial other, and hippy chicks with maternal instincts treating the whole world as their kindergarten.

P.s. it’s still early morning which along with the unlovely visage (is that Emily?) may have contributed to my initially reading the headline as UNLAID.
Mr. Mrs. Potatohead and Discount Freddy Mercury are not leading images to inspire my sympathy.
Ah, fuck it. I wasn’t going to have any sympathy anyway.
Whether or not most people admit it, what keeps them from speaking up in the face of what they know is wrong is fear. Fear not primarily of unemployment, though that is a pressing concern, but fear of ostracism.
For some people, I think this must be undoubtedly true.
But then I also think that when it comes to those same people, they have already had half a foot in that camp for some time and, to extend the metaphor, happily contributed to building the camp in the first place.
These are often people who have spent years taking as axiomatic the idea that being a Conservative / Republican means that you’re uneducated and have therefore been all too easily brainwashed by an exploitative Capitalist class into voting against your own best interests.
And they’re often the same people who don’t just think that a vote for Trump is a vote for an obnoxious buffoon on the ‘other side’ of the political line, but represents an enthusiastic Sieg Heil salute to the extermination of non-white Americans.
At a crude narcissistic level, they’re not infrequently people who see shift from more liberal to more conservative values as a sign of ageing, of ‘turning into your mother/father’, and so sticking to the former, even against their better judgment at times, is a way of keeping youthful.
These are the people I think likely suffer the most anguish with all this because they know it’s wrong, only a halfwit or a sociopath could argue otherwise, but openly opposing it might mean being forced to revise the image they have of themselves and who they are as a person and, worse, that this image will be of someone they have long despised in the past.
For other people, for me at least, I tend not to speak out because it’s completely futile.
I already know they have determined I am wrong, having made all my arguments for me in advance, and so I will never get my ideas across since whatever I try to say will be subtitled with their preconceptions and like some Mongolian language arthouse movie, they will only be reading the subtitles.
But I’ve also found it’s futile to even pose certain kinds of question because in certain forums the kinds of fundamental truths about the world we live in that my question would presuppose at least some familiarity with would be, like some obscure Mongolian dialect, utterly alien to the people I’m asking.
So it would sound as bizarre as asking a football player whether a soft French cheese can be used as a sacrament during a post match analysis.
The least that can be said about the book-burning fanatics of the 1930s is that those setting the fires and those rescuing them from the flames both agreed that the books had value – they only really differed in what they saw as the significance of that value.
Now the situation is more like watching a fanatic throwing another book on the raging bonfire and when you ask them to stop burning books they say “What books? I’m not burning any books” as they toss yet another Solzhenitsyn into the flames, adding slyly “Only a fascist would call this garbage a book. You’re not a fascist are you? Hmmm?”
And if you were to try to grab an armful of unburned books and make a dash for it, they would report you for a hate crime. No amount of “But it really is book!” is going to help you when Twitter and Youtube close down your accounts or when the police invite you for an informal chat down at the station.
Sure. Nothing says “respectful and ethical” like spy cameras, right?
As some liberal journalists and intellectuals have told us, if you have nothing to hide then you have nothing to fear. (Speaking of such morally corrupt swine, David Brin said such things many years ago–ahead of the curve, I suppose. Has he ever walked back his embrace of the idea of a society without privacy?)

UniLad. A magazine for “Lads” that go to “Uni”
So, I will extrapolate and assume that all “lads” that go to “uni” are expected to look like that or already do look like that. Elite Education by Emasculation.
Certainly does nothing to improve my opinion of my “superiors”
But then I also think that when it comes to those same people, they have already had half a foot in that camp for some time
Well if we include the NeverTrump crowd in that assessment as well, I might agree. Many on the conservative side cannot refer to Trump without denigrating the man in some manner to show that while they tolerate those who voted for him, or even went so far as to vote for him themselves, they are not to be confused with the far right homophobe and racist extremists. Yet how often does one see those on the left distancing themselves from a president who never was all that bright and is now slipping into early stages of dementia, has a son who is a whore chasing crackhead, and a VP who is pretty much a whore herself? And a cackling one to boot. But no need for those people on the left to say any such things because they have nothing to fear. Neither economically nor socially.
they’re not infrequently people who see shift(ing) from more liberal to more conservative values as a sign of ageing, of ‘turning into your mother/father’…is a way of keeping youthful.
Assuming you meant ‘shifting‘ as it fits in with the latter part of the sentence…As if there would be something wrong with that? Granted, one should have a significantly greater degree of perspective on issues such as race, sex, etc. than one’s parents given a generation of history and experience one has gained over their elders. But again, fear of being ostracized for thinking.
Look, I don’t hold out much hope for turning this situation around neither. I don’t know how to communicate these points without coming across as judgmental (ooh…I could definitely get ostracized for that). I respect that everyone has to look at their own situation and think about what they CAN do. But this latter bit here is loser think. Finding excuses why one cannot do them.
The bigger issue that concerns me is that far too many conservatives…”conservatives” place far too much faith in ivory tower “the truth will set us free” thinking and not enough in understanding that in the real world, over much of human history, the “truth” was essentially what everyone else believed it to be. The understanding of “what everyone else” thinks is 79.9956% a function of how often that truth, or “truth”, is repeatedly heard. That is, until the Gods of the Copybook Headings awaken, look around, and unleash The Raging Times.

What he says would be true, if by “minorities” he meant “crazy people”. He’s like the neighbor who won’t leave the house unless bundled up from head to toe, with sunglasses and multiple masks and heavy gloves.
If you poke around on the internet you will learn that the author, umair haque, believes that campus speech codes mandating penalties for “hate speech” are crafted by “American ultra-conservatives”. If he thinks the leftists who run our universities are “ultra conservatives” then I hate to think what he thinks is a moderate, much less a leftist.
He also predicts that the next 3 to 5 decades will be a time of eco-apocalypse: “First come the 30s, when climate change goes thermonuclear, and megafloods, megafires, and megatyphoons become regular events — disrupting everyday life in ways that make Covid look like a cakewalk. Then come the 40s, the age of mass extinction, when the dying off of species we depend on creates megafamines, megadroughts, massive, chronic, global shortages, which cause everything from depression to hyperinflation to social implosion. Then at last comes the Final Goodbye — the planet’s great ecosystems finally die off — the ones our civilisation’s basic systems of food, air, water, medicine, and money all depend on. Bang. There goes everything.”
His essays mention all sorts of intellectual concepts, but distorted by a deranged politics. As David would say, severely educated
Note also that he is not merely umair haque. He is umair haque, vampire.
I respect that everyone has to look at their own situation and think about what they CAN do. But this latter bit here is loser think. Finding excuses why one cannot do them.
As a loner, hermit, misanthrope, social misfit, whatever you want to call people like me, the fear of ostracism isn’t the main driver of my fear of speaking out. As long as I have a few good friends, I’m ok. What concerns me more is my job, which allows me to eat, sleep in a bed, have a roof that keeps off the rain, electricity, and yes, the internet. I lost a job – the old “resign or be fired” option – for being Different. I try to keep most of my opinions to myself, but apparently I let slip some that put me on a list, and just before my probationary period was up, I got called into the office of one of the higher-ups (the layers of bureaucratic hierarchy at this place was astounding, and all the Titled, from the top down, were women. Every last one of them. Lovely people, too. All smiles to your face. All of the Left, of course, as these types tend to be). I had enough savings to pay the rent and got lucky finding another job, back in research where I like to be, and somewhat separated from the academic bureaucracy. But it’s a temp job.
So am I one of the cowardly baddies who won’t speak out for fear of losing a job? I don’t have a hubby’s income or a pension to fall back on, and no parents’ basement to move into. And no inheritance coming when my mom dies. I’m on my own. I’ve lost one job, not for doing it poorly, but for opinions I hold. I’d rather not go through that again. I don’t know how to make a difference for good – I personally don’t think I can. Heck, my vote doesn’t matter anymore. Some days it’s this rickety barge and the intelligent humor, fisking, and comments from our host and his commenters that keeps me afloat these days. I don’t read any of my old blogs and aggregator sites (not even Insty, sadly) anymore. It’s too damned depressing.
He is umair haque, vampire.
Well there you have it. First, a lot of wypipo are Christians of some sort and wear crosses, then he is over in London and all the UK flag is nothing but crosses, then there are all the Italians and French with their garlic, how can you blame him for being terrified.
My mom has the coolest fridge.
So am I one of the cowardly baddies who won’t speak out for fear of losing a job?
No. Leftists don’t care if they lose a job — hell, a lot of them feel working is for suckers. They’re the first in line for government cheese and will engage in any kind of petty theft or scam to get premium crackers to go with it.
They KNOW that the vast majority of their declared enemies hate/hate/hate to be a burden on others, including fellow taxpayers. It is the Achilles heel of the responsible adult. Most of us do not have enough “fuck you” money for the long haul.
Umair tweets about the scary, scary mockery of his silly opinionating:
“I see the american gun nuts and batshit conservatives are on my case today with the requisite threats and vitriol and rage and hate….”

As the former owner of a fridge very similar to the mom’s (but without the knock-and-show effect – just the French doors and double opening of the right compartment), I can confirm that they are very cool indeed. Too bad the people who bought my house made leaving it a condition of sale, because my current one kinda sucks (despite having cost the original owners a damned fortune). I just can’t bring myself to spend that much on a refrigerator when the current one works okay.
But then, the second fridge looks like a lot more fun.
devilbunny: Yes, a lot more fun. The possibilities are endless. A hobbit jumps out and asks about second breakfast. A dwarf jumps out and demands that you to to the liquor store right now and buy multiple barrels of beer.
David jumps out and tells you “No! You cannot have a snack until you fix those italics”.
Has he ever walked back his embrace of the idea of a society without privacy?
The Sci-Fi author David Drake wrote a series of stories Lacey and his friends, but the link points to different collection on his website. I do believe he’s anti-Trump (given some comments that I’ve read), so perhaps his head is firmly jammed up his ass in his old age. OTOH, he’s pretty knowledgeable about the ancient Roman/Greek world, so he may see patterns that I don’t.
I’ll admit that reading the early Hammer’s Slammers novels as well as my interest in military history lead me to become a US Army officer and then an Armor officer.
Mr. Drake did go where he could be shot at because he hated the rear-echelon chickenshit. His early stories are certainly worth a read or two; one of them has this text:
That particular story is named Under The Hammer and I sure as bleep remembered those lines during the “stuff” I experienced at West Point and in the active Army.
YMMV and probably should.

The meme really is “We fully expect you to do to us what we would do in your position.”
