Friday Ephemeraren’t
Because I’m just a big-hearted softy, a chance to throw together your own pile of links and oddities in the comments. I’ll set the ball rolling with the cunning of cows; scenes of nocturnal activity; how to sit on a chair; some traffic news; and via Holborn, proof, if more were needed, that the Tribes To The North are hardy folk.
Oh, and remember, kids. Always blame the white devil.
Smart cows: I breed beef cattle [Angus] and use exactly the same insulated handle for my electrified ‘break gates’, but my cattle obviously haven’t been educated at university and have never got through such a gate.
the cunning of cows
If they develop opposable thumbs we’re doomed.
how to sit on a chair;
So, apparently, women and spatial issues begin very soon after birth. I had been told that it was because for all their lives women were told that this [ separates thumb and forefinger by four inches ] was six inches.
Always blame the white devil
Treat these leftists with the same intolerance that a paroled child killer deserves.
Always blame the white devil.

If you’d like some probably-good news, it seems there’s at least one entertainment company that still believes “clothes, hairstyles, etc. are meant for every human being, no matter what race, age, etc.”
At least, last I heard…
“thats [sic] not space buns… thats [sic] afro puffs… for black people, not you.”
Said the pudgy white girl.

For those of the Ephemeral Community who are lunar calendrists, Happy New Year of the Ox – Kung Hei Fat Choi or Gong Xi Fa Tsai as appropriate.
However, in theses modern wokeist gender times perhaps it should be re-named Year of the Transcow given that an ox is merely a bull with no balls

Ah, but the black thug only murdered a frail 84-year-old Thai man – attacking him at random, unprovoked, and slamming him into the ground – because of “white supremacy.” Obviously. And that’s why he looked so satisfied with himself as he strode away afterwards. And continually telling a pet demographic that any shortcomings and bad choices, any moral dysfunction or fits of malevolence, are actually someone else’s fault, and that responsibility always, conveniently lies elsewhere… well, that’s bound to help. It’s “intersectional empowerment.”
Obviously.
@ David: “… and that responsibility always, conveniently lies elsewhere…” – which is the standard ‘disclaimer’ of untrained and egocentric toddlers, i.e. “Jonny, Sarah, the postman or even the devil made me do it.”
which is the standard ‘disclaimer’ of untrained and egocentric toddlers,
To a large degree, you can think of modern progressivism, its assumptions and policies, as analogous to really bad parenting. With similarly ruinous results.

From the linked Grauniad article: “That is absolutely a class and race issue” said an “environmental justice” activist.
Yes, a racial issue. But not in the way the “activist” would be willing to admit.
“If all of those white people were still here, this wouldn’t happen”
Some folks in Zimbabwe have been saying that recently. But who is now willing to “take up the white man’s burden”?

He did a similar one with dogs.

What’s an all-black township to do? Just sit and wait for De Wyte Man to come and fix shit I guess.
Literally.
Always blame the white devil, especially the capitalist ones.
“Fatphobia is a direct result of anti-blackness,” says the immense, moustachioed ladybeing, regurgitating her lecture notes. Still, it’s good to have further confirmation that the actual meanings of words, and the order in which they’re uttered, are of little importance to these creatures. What matters – and generates great enthusiasm – is the self-satisfied lecturing tone.
What’s an all-black township to do? Just sit and wait for De Wyte Man to come and fix shit I guess.
Think of all the white people who came to America with little money who formed cooperative organizations to get shit done.
And of course there are all the Asians who come to America with nothing, can only afford to live in high-crime ghetto neighborhoods, and work hard at whatever jobs they can find while tutoring their children so that they will excel in school and do better than their parents.
Come to think of it, that’s a partial explanation of why blacks hate Asians.
Centreville’s home page shows that they have 11 full-time police and 6 dispatchers. If they simply defunded the police, it would free up a couple of million bucks in their budget. That would cover the debt service on around $30 million in improvements, which should be plenty for a town of four square miles.
They could slay the racist police dragon and the racist sewerage boogeyman in one swell foop!
They could slay the racist police dragon and the racist sewerage boogeyman in one swell foop!
Here, have a drink.
5,000 people in Centerville. 13 people on that city council page. Four “wards”, two of which have two aldermen representing them. Seems the citizens would have excellent representation at those numbers. Wonder what gives?
I do a lot (and I mean a lot) of work with municipal utilities on stuff like capital planning and rate-setting. Centreville looks to be an example of what happens when you let 50 years of bad policy go unaddressed. I’ve no first-hand knowledge of Centreville, but in 4 out of 5 projects that I get called in to fix, the cycle goes:
1: Utility Manager says “We need to raise rates by 6% to pay for needed maintenance and improvements.”
2: City Council says “Our voters can’t afford/don’t want to pay more. Just do your best.”
3: Utility Manager keeps things going for as long as he can, watching the deferred maintenance list grow and grow.
4: Years of jury-rigged systems finally start to fail catastrophically. Utility Manager gets fired by City Council for the crime of doing what previous elected officials told him he had to do.
5: New Utility Manager comes in and says “We need to raise rates by 40% to pay for deferred maintenance and get the system operational again.”
6: City Council fires new Utility Manager for outrageous demands.
7: Lickspittle new Utility Manager comes in and does nothing except stand next to Mayor and demand that Somebody Else pay for his mismanaged and ineffective system.
There’s plenty of other red flags in that story as well. The big one for me was the fact that the streets department covers over the manholes when they do a resurfacing job. That just shouldn’t happen in a functional city with a City Engineer and a Utility Manager who understand their jobs.
Of course, looking at their population trend (losing around 50 households per year), this is the sort of problem that you can actually ignore until it goes away. Give it another 20 years or so, and you can turn the whole thing into a nice retaining pond that makes water management easier for the surrounding communities.
Give it another 20 years or so, and you can turn the whole thing into a nice retaining pond that makes water management easier for the surrounding communities.
I’m always amazed at cities foolishness over property. Abandoned buildings? Hey, someone will buy it and we’ll get some tax coin!!!!
Ah, no. Plow it under and let the grass grow. But that won’t pay for the extended families’ jobs, now will it?
If the building is truly abandoned, then apparently, for whatever reason, it is undesirable. Otherwise…and this is of course putting aside legal/political issues…someone would buy it and put it to use. Sometimes plowing it under is the best solution.
I’ve never worked construction, so it took me a second to realize you were saying the city paves over its manholes when you said “covers over”.
I first thought you meant they used manhole covers, so I couldn’t figure out the problem… I shouldn’t post while hungry.
They are not manhole covers, comrade. Say maintenance hole access covers.
Say maintenance hole access covers.
It’s not “hole access” you rapist!
Say “sustainment port admittance integument”.

Search function isn’t working for me this afternoon, but I made a comment some time back about producing a line of pride flags that were pink on the top and blue on the bottom, with your choice of niche pride colo(u)rs along a narrow strip in the middle.
It’s a subtle reminder to the boring vanilla hetero people that they’re a massive majority, and a subtle reminder to the people of the ten thousand special niches that nobody can tell them apart from more than a meter away.

Thank you sir. For the informative link, and for not disguising a page of meshed ladyparts.
So people of Caucasian or other non-African ethnic extraction don’t ever have blocked sewers? Then why do I have extra long rubber gloves and various other implements for plunging, poking as well as root-cutting and root-pulling for clearing blocked underground pipelines around my home? And I’m not even paid by the local council to do such necessary work.
I have taken to answering online forms, surveys, etc.. when they ask for “gender” as:
Other: Taxpayer
It makes me feels better, probably annoys them and let’s them put my response straight in the bin.
I still respect efficiency.

You left out ‘long suffering’.
So people of Caucasian or other non-African ethnic extraction don’t ever have blocked sewers?
Of course they do! It’s just that they don’t sit around for 60 years waiting for somebody from the Capitol to write a check to some politically-connected company to swoop in and make a big show of not fixing the problem.

My first thought was of Harold, “That most dangerous of animals, a clever sheep.”
“[Someone] gets {fired, prosecuted, mob set on him} by {politicians, activists, media} for the crime of doing what previous elected officials told him he had to do.”
With my own minor adjustments, that’s a good three quarters of modern politics right there.
“So people of Caucasian or other non-African ethnic extraction don’t ever have blocked sewers?”
As I’ve mentioned here before, all sorts of people in Australia have ’em. (https://www.youtube.com/c/DrainAddict/videos) As our host reinforced on an earlier Friday. (I couldn’t find a budgerigar puffing up and looking content gif to post on that day.)
OK…help me out here. As this blog i just about my last bastion on sanity and I’ve been having some difficulties getting a straight (heh) answer to this question…and yes, I am 100% comfortable with my own answer but in the interest of being somewhat (classical) liberal minded…

Back to the Gorilla Glue hair do and yte devils, she had to do it.
I don’t know if we’ve covered the story of actress Gina Carano, who has apparently been sacked by LucasFilms for comparing the rampant ideological intolerance in US politics to the persecution of Jews that preceded
Silly of her to use such an insensitive comparison – except that we’ve watched 5 years of the Left in the US accusing Trump (& anyone who doesn’t hate him sufficiently) of being a Nazi, with none of the outrage about insensitivity. Pointing this out on twitter, I got a chorus of “but this is different!” replies. It’s always different, isn’t it?
Furthermore, reading about (or debating) this online, you’d think she was comparing the experience of anyone un-PC opinions with the suffering endured by Jews in the holocaust. Reading her actual words it became clear her emphasis was with the intolerant behaviour of the woke people, *not* the experience of non-Democrats.
Hers was a slippery slope argument – “look where this leads”. But she’s right about the intolerance
So the same 3 themes: misrepresentation, ignoring the point, and selective outrage. We’ve seen it all before, over and over
*that preceded the holocaust (1st para)
I don’t know if we’ve covered the story of actress Gina Carano,
I did touch on it here.
I don’t know if we’ve covered the story of actress Gina Carano,
What’s interesting to me isn’t so much the perversity and opportunism of the outrage, or the irony of it all, but the way in which the outrage, or pseudo-outrage, has been regurgitated – with an odd uniformity, as if the “racism” and “anti-Semitism,” its alleged “abhorrence,” were somehow self-evident and inarguable. Beneath explanation. And so, much of the media moved as one, united in its mendacity and contrivance.
But then Ms Corano’s inclusion of Star Wars droid noises in her Twitter bio – specifically, “boop/bop/beep” – was construed by much the same crowd as obvious and punishable “transphobia.” Rather than, as seems more obvious, gentle mockery of the woke bullies who demanded she list her pronouns.
The question I had recently is why has the whole Star Wars franchise been cancelled, what with its light side == good guys, dark side == bad guys blatant racism?
Hasn’t. Why hasn’t the franchise been cancelled. Obviously…double obviously…
I don’t know if we’ve covered the story of actress Gina Carano,
With her departure, and the departure of the little green foundling, a third season of The Mandalorian, should one be made, is, I’d guess, losing its appeal.
Back to the Gorilla Glue hair do and yte devils, she had to do it.
What’s more, she’s a race traitor–sorry, race traitor!!!–because Gorilla Glue is a white company. 🙂
It must be very hard, going through life with a 75 IQ.

The question I had recently is why has the whole Star Wars franchise been cancelled, what with its light side == good guys, dark side == bad guys blatant racism?
Because it can be used to influence young minds, I guess. In what sounds like a quote from the Star Wars series (which should have bowed out gracefully a long time ago) “it’s too valuable to die!”
All kids are fed a daily diet of propaganda – in the films they watch, the assemblies and now their daily Zoom lessons where parents like me get to hear exactly the sort of nonsense their kids are told.
They’ll either all grow up completely brainwashed, or they’ll react against it big-time
With her departure, and the departure of the little green foundling, a third season of The Mandalorian, should one be made, is, I’d guess, losing its appeal.
They’re adamant there’s going to be a third season, and the ratings probably justify it, but creatively it’ll be vacant. The story arc begun in S01E01 has been closed. There’s nowhere to go unless they turn the Mandalorian into a kind of Mad Max figure, a framing device for stories in a particular setting, but with no agency or ambition of his own. That’s enough of an inversion of the character concept that it’ll turn off any fans that are left.
What happened to Carano is repugnant, but I’m going to be the iconoclast and point out that she isn’t a very good actress and she was always an SJW mascot hire. “Cara Dune” isn’t a female character. She’s the bog standard Big Dumb Fighter sidekick, a stock trope in men’s adventure fiction. She’s the Jet Black, the Doubar, the Renny, the Chewbacca. She was cast solely as a sop to the SJWs inside Lucasfilm who wanted big strong action girl built like a brick shithouse.
She did a good job in the role because it didn’t require very much from her. Disney’s alleged plans were spinning her off to headline her own Cara-Dune-as-Sheriff-of-Tatooine show, which would have been a disaster.
What happened to Carano is repugnant, but I’m going to be the iconoclast and point out that she isn’t a very good actress
Fair enough. I wouldn’t argue with that. But she did the job she was given, was apparently popular among fans, and it made a change to see a kick-ass woman played by an actress who looked like she might actually be capable of kicking ass.
who looked like she might actually be capable of kicking ass
It depends on how far you’re willing to suspend disbelief, I suppose. I was waiting for some kind of reference to a heavy-gravity origin world, or some kind of genetic engineering program for shock troopers. It would have tied in nicely with the darker tone, and it’s commonly part of the trope that the Big Dumb Fighter sidekick doesn’t do anything else because they can’t – breaking heads is all they’re good at. The main character gives them a purpose and a reason to believe they can be more than a blunt instrument.
The simple truth is that the Roundhouse Kicking Cop Chick trope is one nobody wants to see. Men don’t want to watch a woman getting beaten up by a man. Women don’t want to watch a woman getting beaten up by a man. Neither men nor women want to watch women with the height, reach and musculature of men. That leaves your only option to have your willowy, sassy waif be untouchable in combat, at levels that look juvenile and farcical.

Heh. Just thought that was worth repeating.
Disney’s alleged plans were spinning her off to headline her own Cara-Dune-as-Sheriff-of-Tatooine show, which would have been a disaster.
I would not have been rushing home to watch. She was fine as a supporting character, but not, I think, a charismatic lead. Again, I suspect The Mandalorian is pretty much done now, for me, anyway. As you say, the main story and theme to date have been concluded. It was a fun way to pass 45 minutes once a week, but I’m not sufficiently invested in Star Wars mythos to care about Boba Fett and his lady assassin sidekick, or the lady Mandalorian and her claim to the… whatever it was.
I’m not sufficiently invested in Star Wars mythos to care about […]
Probably the show’s biggest misstep in S02 was shoehorning in a bunch of EU stuff that nobody outside of hardcore Star Wars nerds remembers or understands. The brilliance of S01 was that the show was recognizably Star Wars but did not require you to know anything at all beyond the original trilogy, and probably not even that. As was mentioned elsewhere, good genre shows do not require you to digest an encyclopedia or unrelated information just to get on board.
“Cara Dune” isn’t a female character.
I’m just revisiting the series now and I don’t think there are any female characters in S01 except the village headwoman in the
SevenTwo Samurai knockoff episode. Every other character played by an actress could have been easily swapped for an actor without even changing the script. Cara Dune, the spaceport operator, the lady assassin, the armorer, etc.Although it is apparently Word of God that Nick Nolte’s gnome farmer alien is female.
your willowy, sassy waif be untouchable in combat, at levels that look juvenile and farcical
Since Whedon’s in the news again, there’s something about Buffy-as-feminist-icon that’s always amused me. The “teenager vampire hunter” genre predates Buffy by a fair bit – Lost Boys, Fright Night, Once Bitten, etc. In all of those films, the protagonist is just an average teenaged boy. In order to be believable, Buffy needed superpowers and a superpowered backup squad. And the Frog Brothers still had a higher vampire kill/screen time count.
Nick Nolte’s gnome farmer alien
It took me quite a while, several episodes, to recognise him. Almost funny. Possibly because his character was quite short.

Unless you’re very good with voices, it’s hardly surprising when the actor’s face is completely covered in heavy prostheses. Daniel Craig was in The Force Awakens. And that was SNL’s Jason Sudeikis as one of the scout troopers.
